A day at the funfair

7

Tandi and Tom are at the funfair with Mom and

Dad. The ticket seller gives each one a coloured

M

wristband to show that they have paid. Tom

s

and Tandi are very excited. They hear music

f

and laughter. “What can we do ±rst, Dad?” asks

j

Tandi. “We will stroll around and have a look

s

at everything,” he says. “There is a stage over

c

there, it’s probably for a music performance. If

I

you promise to stay with us and not wander off on your own, you may each choose something

from a stall.”

“Yippee! Thank you, Dad!” shouts Tom. Dad and Mom laugh. There are stalls everywhere. Some sell crafts, others have hats, toys, furniture and there is a huge jumping castle. The food stalls sell hamburgers, hot dogs, candy¶oss, and pancakes. It smells delicious. “There are so many things here!” says Tandi. “I don’t know where to start.” Tom spots a toy stall and rushes over. There is a wooden train set on the table. “May I have the train, please, Dad?” he asks. “Sure,” Dad nods. Tom is very happy with his train set. He will take good care of it. 9

Tandi stops at a stall selling pretty shoes. One

pair is pink with shiny beads. She tries them on and

they ±t perfectly. “Do you like those?” asks Dad.

“D

“Very much,” says Tandi. “All right, you may have

a

them.” “Thanks, Dad!” Tandi loves her new shoes.

a “What is that?” asks Tom with wide eyes. He

s

points at a giant wheel, slowly going round and

b

round. There are seats all around the edge of the wheel. The people in the seats shout and wave to

T

the people watching below. Mom and Dad walk up

T

to the children. “It’s a Ferris wheel,” says Dad. The

e

children watch as it slowly turns, taking people high

up in the air.
