Unit 1: Local history

Learning objectives

After completing this unit, you must be able to do the following:

 Research the past and apply it to local history. You must be able to find a wide variety of information about the past.  Collect information, for example from texts, visual material (photos, pictures, television and movies), songs, poems and interviews with people.  Use more than one type of written information such as books, magazines, newspapers and websites.

Introduction

In this unit you are going to learn how to obtain information from various sources as well as how to find information about the present. When you know how to look for information that applies to the present, you will be able to use it to find out about the history of your area. Historical places often play an important part in modern society, for example the Town Hall in your area.
