The 12th Impakt festival will be taking place from October 27 in Utrecht’s Centraal Museum. Impakt is an international platform for innovative installations, video, music, film, and new media. On October 2nd at 9 pm, the festival will open with a DJ performance by DJ Olive. The exhibition can also be visited. The Central Museum will be open from Wednesday through to Sunday from 11 am to 11.30 pm. Het nieuwste werk van Ryoji beloofd wederom intens te worden. In 2000 opende Ikeda het Impakt Festival met een geruchtmakend concert op een ponton in de Oude Gracht. In 2001 kan de bezoeker zich onderdompelen in de geluidsinstallatie ‘MATRIX for container’. Een totaalervaring. Ryoji’s newest work once again promises to be an intense one. In 2000, Ikeda opened the Impakt Festival with a notorious concert on a pontoon in the Oude Gracht. CHRISTOPH DRAEGER APOCALYPSO PLACE (Christoph Draeger & Reynold Reynolds) MIXED MEDIA ENVIRONMENT VS USA 2000
In een door een orkaan verwoeste huiskamer kan de bezoeker naar het Amerikaanse SNBC 24-Hour Disaster and Survival Channel kijken. De drie ‘overlevenden’ van de ramp praten uitsluitend in reclame-slogans en media-oneliners en proberen zich drijvende te houden met oude patronen, illusies en schijnzekerheden. In a living room devastated by a hurricane, the visitor can watch American broadcaster SNBC’s 24-hour Disaster and Survival Channel. The three "survivors" of the disaster speak only in advertising slogans and media one-liners, trying to keep afloat with old patterns, illusions, and false truths.

Schizo belicht een belangrijk element in het werk van Christoph Draeger: zijn interesse voor Hollywood films die zijn vorm krijgt in re-makes en foundfootage installaties. In zijn nieuwste werk ‘Schizo’ trekt Draeger paralellen tussen twee versies van Hitchcock’s klassieker ‘Psycho’. "Schizo" illumi-
nates another important element in the work of Christoph Draeger: his interest in Hollywood films, which takes the form of remakes and foundfootage installations. In his newest work, "Schizo", Draeger draws parallels between two versions of Hitchcock’s classic "Psycho."

Een groep atleten zwaait aan een trapeze en beurtelings verdwijnen ze in het niets. Hun lichamen slaan te pletter tegen een toren, dezelfde klokketoren als die van het Berlijnse Olympisch stadion in 1936. De lichamen vallen in stukken uiteen en komen terecht op de operatietafel. A group of athletic men take
turns swinging from a trapeze out into emptiness. Their bodies then crash against a tower, the clock tower from the 1936 Berlin Olympic stadium and fall down in pieces on an examination table at the base of the tower.

DOUG AITKEN (USA) In het film en video programma is er een special gewijd aan Doug Aitken. Aitken maakt naast video installaties ook films en videoclips voor bijvoorbeeld Iggy Pop en Fatboy Slim. Met zijn installatie ‘Electric Earth’ won Aitken tijdens de Biennale van Venetië in 1999 de Best International Artist Award. In het door Doug Aitken zelf samengestelde programma zullen de filmversies van ‘Electric Earth’, ‘Eraser’ en ‘These Restless Minds’ worden vertoond. A special part of the film and video program has been devoted to Doug Aitken. In addition to video installations, Aitken also makes films and video clips for artists including Iggy Pop and Fatboy Slim. With his installation "Electric Earth", he won the Best International Artist Award at the Venice Biennale in 1999. In the program, compiled by Doug Aitken himself, there will be screenings of the film versions of "Electric Earth", "Eraser", and "These Restless Minds".

MUZIEKPROGRAMMA
In een uitgebreid worden ‘cutting edge’ artiesten uit de elektronische muziek en de danscultuur gepresenteerd. Pioniers met een internationale naam als Mouse on Mars, Luke Vibert, Funkstörung, DJ Olive en Christian Fennesz zullen optreden naast geluidskunstenaars die het afgelopen jaar van zich hebben doen spreken met sterk vernieuwend werk. Tevens vindt er een muziekprogramma plaats dat in samenwerking met het Belgische muziektijdschrift Gonzo Circus tot stand gekomen is. De concerten zullen in De Vloer plaatsvinden. In an extensive music program, cutting-edge artists from electronic music and dance culture will be presented. Pioneers of international repute, such as Mouse on Mars, Luke Vibert, Funkstörung, DJ Olive, and Christian Fennesz will be performing in addition to sound artists who have made a name for themselves over the past year with their powerfully innovative work. There will also be a music program organized together with the Belgian music magazine Gonzo Circus. The concerts will take place at the Vloer.

DJ OLIVE Met zijn ontspannen, dubby klanken maakt DJ Olive muziek die dwars door de verschillende culturen van de metropool New York heen gaat en koppelt experimentele elektronica aan echoënde dubklanken. Naast een solo optreden zal DJ Olive, samen met de DJ’s Toshio Kajiwara en erikm een stuk laten horen waarvoor ze dezelfde plaat van DJ Olive als basismateriaal gebruiken. Aansluitend zullen de 3 DJ’s gezamelijk optreden. With his
relaxed, dubby sounds, DJ Olive makes music that crosses though the various cultures of the metropolis of New York and connects electronica to echoing dub sounds. In addition to a solo appearance, DJ Olive will also, together with DJs Toshio Kajiwara and erikm, play pieces that all used the same DJ Olive record as source material. The three DJs will then perform together.

CHRISTIAN FENNESZ, MATT WAND, RAWAKARI In samenwerking met het muziektijdschrift Gonzo Circus presenteert Impakt een afwisselende avond met onder andere Christian Fennesz. Alhoewel Fennesz bekend staat om zijn fijnzinnige maar soms ook zeer noisy elektronische muziek, is zijn laatste CD ‘Endless Summer’ geinspireerd op Beach Boys-achtige surfmuziek.
Together with music magazine Gonzo Circus, Impakt is presenting a varied evening, with artists including Christian Fennesz. Though Fennesz is known for his subtle though occasionally noisy electronic music, his most recent CD "Endless Summer" was inspired by Beach Boys-esque surf music.

Met het album ‘Additional Productions’ brak Funkstörung door naar een groter publiek, en niet in het minst omdat het album remixes van Björk en Wu-Tang Clan bevat. Geïnspireerd door de elektronische experimenten van groepen als Autechre en Aphex Twin, laat de groep elektronische ritmes en snerpende geluiden samen gaan met golvende basloopjes en opgehakte hiphop beats. Funkstörung-lid Chris de Luca zal aanvullend spannende hiphop platen draaien. With the album "Additional Productions", Funkstörung broke through to a larger audience, no doubt partly due to the fact that the album contains remixes of Björk and the Wu-Tang Clan. Inspired by the electronic experiments of groups such as Autechre and Aphex Twin, the group combines electronic rhythms and biting sounds with undulating bass loops and chopped-up hip-hop beats. Funkstörung member Chris de Luca will also be spinning some exciting hip-hop records.

richt zich in haar videowerk op subtiele gedragingen tussen mannen waarin hun onderlinge (machts)verhoudingen worden uitgedrukt of bezegeld. De handelingen zijn te herkennen als codes uit de omgang tussen mensen in het dagelijks leven. In her video work, Annika
Larsson focuses on subtle behaviors between men in which their mutual (power) relationships are expressed or sealed. These actions can be recognized as codes from the interactions between people in everyday life.

In de nieuwste installatie van Annika Larsson komt een eeuwenoud symbool van distinctie aan bod: de rashond. In uitvergrote vorm toont Larsson ons kleine maar veelzeggende gebaren in een broeierige sfeer van vernedering en sensualiteit. In Annika Larsson’s newest installation, an age-old symbol of
distinction is on display: the purebred dog. In magnified form, Larsson shows us small yet revealing gestures in a sultry atmosphere of humiliation and sensuality.

Het verkennen en overschrijden van lichamelijke en geestelijke grenzen staat centraal in het werk van Maria Pask. In ‘Dying for Enlightenment’ neemt zij samen met een aantal studenten deel aan een meditatie ritueel. Waar haar cursisten schijnbaar moeiteloos het ene bewustzijnsniveau na het andere doorlopen faalt zij jammerlijk zonder ook maar het eerste stadium te bereiken. The investigation and transgression of physical and spiritual boundaries is central to the work of Maria Pask. In "Dying for Enlightenment", she takes part with several students in a ritual of meditation. While the students seem to progress easily from one level of consciousness to the next, she’s miserably left behind without reaching even the first stage.
