Operation Wallacea is a network of academics from European and North American universities, who design and implement biodiversity and conservation management research expeditions.
Research is supported by participants who join the programme, to strengthen their CV/Resume, gain skills they wish to gain or expand upon. They could also join to collect data for a dissertation or thesis (also known as an Independent Research Project - IRP). Academics benefit from funding for high quality fieldwork enabling them to publish papers in peer reviewed journals. This model enables the collection of large temporal and spatial datasets used for assessing the effectiveness of conservation management interventions.
We began working within the Wallacea region of Indonesia in 1995. Initially funded to run a rapid assessment of this poorly-explored area, we soon discovered that the need for long term monitoring data in many ecosystems was critical. Nearly 30 years on, we now run biodiversity research expeditions all over the world, sourcing data that has underpinned hundreds of research papers and informed high-level environmental policy decisions in the sites we work in.

The Ogden Trust aims to increase the uptake of physics post-16 by supporting physics education and engagement for all young people (4-18), particularly those in under-represented groups. The Trust supports schools, teachers, projects and programmes that are committed to enhancing physics teaching and learning.
Our Teach Physics internships provide four-week school placements for undergraduate students to give an intensive experience of teaching physics.
Each year, The Ogden Trust offers Teach Physics internships for university students. These internships provide an intensive experience of what teaching physics is like, an important prerequisite for obtaining a PGCE place or other funded route into teaching.
The objectives of the programme are:
- To increase the number of physics graduates going on to teacher training
- To increase the number of physics specialists teaching science in British state schools
Teach Physics internships are aimed at university undergraduate students who are considering a physics teaching career and are open to physics and engineering students. They take place between the end of the university year and the end of the school summer term and are usually for four or five weeks.
The internships are hosted at state schools across England with a reputation for strong physics teaching and a link with The Ogden Trust.
