he best way a bride can display her sense of style is through her wedding dress. Fashion statement is important and, when it is shown blatantly during a wedding, it is even more powerful. Nowadays the trends keep changing when it comes to wedding dresses. Designers are more adventurous and brides have also demanded that the styles be stretched a little to ensure that they will look fabulous — unlike the olden days when brides would only wear plain and meringue styles for wedding gowns. With a unique and exquisite dress, the bride can stand out from other brides. Modern wedding dresses are varied to suit the different bridal personalities, so they can be highly differentiated on their special day.

Color Color is a very important aspect for wedding dresses. Initially, white was the standard wedding dress color but times have changed. You can now opt for different colors for your wedding occasion. Colors considered to be unique and adventurous are: pink, ivory, brown, deep blue and ivory. Many modern color choices are inspired by vintage palettes. Victorian and red tones are also a good choice and have been around for a very long time. You may also want a detachable one

which combines two dresses but still looks elegant. You should opt for detachable veil, trails, jackets, sleeves and layers. The recent trends make it extremely easy to rock your perfect wedding outfit without having to worry about trips to the changing room.

Cutout backs Keyholes and lace cutouts have also become a preference lately. These wedding outfits have borrowed the

Tea dresses are options available at reasonable prices. And, by saving on your dress, you will have more money to spend on other aspects of your wedding. Brides have been known to use tea dresses to show off their opulence on their special day. for unique settings A non-traditional ceremony location is a bit less formal than a traditional church ceremony, however pomp and circumstance surrounds the occasion with a more personal touch. Guests tend to arrive closer to the ceremony time and mingle a bit prior to being seated. The celebration truly begins as guests enter the property and are greeted with refreshment.

edding ceremonies can be as unique to a bride and groom as their reception. More and more brides and grooms are choosing non-traditional ceremony locations, such as: a sunflower field, a lakefront lawn, a private shore on the river, a public beach, a terrace on a mountaintop, and so on. It is very exciting for guests to be welcomed to a unique location to celebrate the union of friends and family. 8

While I do not recommend offering a full bar, I do recommend two or three beverage choices including a non-alcoholic offering. The options are endless and should compliment the season and weather. Lemonade with mint and raspberries, virgin Arnold Palmers, cucumber melon infused sparkling water, or chai blossoms are great non-alcoholic options. Spirituous options might include a Lillet sparkler in the spring, a southside in the summer, ciderhouse whiskey in the fall, or the classic kir royale in the winter. Undoubtedly, the ceremony will be a favorite of guests and remembered for years to come.

PREPARATION

Combine tea bags and 1 cup of boiling water in a small bowl; cover and let sit 8–10 minutes. Add sugar and stir to dissolve. Discard tea bags and let cool. Stir chai syrup and lime juice in a pitcher to combine. Divide among 4 rocks glasses filled with ice and add 2–3 oz. club soda to each. Garnish with anise pods and lemon twists.

INGREDIENTS (4 SERVINGS) 1 bottle champagne 4 tablespoons crème de cassis OR chambord Garnish with fresh raspberries OR orange zest PREPARATION In 4 champagne glasses, place 1 tablespoon of (hard-to-find) crème de cassis or (easy-to-find) chambord. Top with a few raspberries or orange garnish. Pour champagne filling to near top. Serve immediately.

Red, White & Blue Mojito

INGREDIENTS (1 SERVING) 2 oz. white rum 1 oz. fresh squeezed lime juice 1 oz. simple syrup 10 mint leaves 2-3 sliced strawberries 10-15 blueberries Silver edible glitter stars In a glass, muddle the lime juice, simple syrup, mint, strawberries and blueberries. Add rum and stir. Fill glass with crushed ice and top off with club soda. T rash the dress,” also known as “Rock the frock,” or “Drown the gown,” is a style of wedding photography that contrasts elegant clothing with an environment in which it is out of place. This unexpected trend has emerged in recent years and it happens after your wedding day. It is generally shot in the style of fashion and glamor photography. It’s a new trend in wedding photo sessions done after the wedding day. It’s not about

preservation. It’s about doing something remarkable and having a photo of it to show to your friends.

Usually brides opt to have pictures taken on a beach, but other locations include city streets, rooftops, garbage dumps, fields, and abandoned buildings. This has to be one of the most misunderstood trends to come out of America within wedding photography in recent times. The idea of destroying a wedding

dress has been used in Hollywood symbolically since at least October 1998 when Meg Cummings of the show “Sunset Beach” ran into the ocean in her wedding dress after her wedding was badly interrupted.

The Paradisus Resort THEIR STORY Lindsay and Rodney became friends in 2011, when she was coaching the softball team, and he was coaching the baseball team at E.B. Aycock Middle School. As head coaches, they talked about games and plays as they rode the bus to and from games. They had a mutual respect for each other and shared a common interest‌the love of the game. Lindsay had married her high school sweetheart, Spencer Hampton, in April of 2012. Spencer had been diagnosed with Stage 4 Melanoma and passed away in June of that year. Yet, even after Spencer was gone, Lindsay never stopped dreaming of having a family and children of her own. It was also a dream that Spencer did not want her to give up on. In 2013, Lindsay and Rodney ran into one another at an ECU football game. It was the first time they had seen one another since their last bus ride. The two instantly hit it off. Afterwards, they got together for dinner talked about everything. Lindsay found his kind, nonjudgmental demeanor made it easy for her to open up and talk with him about her late husband, Spencer. Instead of pity, Rodney responded with empathy — he wanted to learn more and understood how essential it was that she talk about it. Rodney acknowledged that widowhood was a part of Lindsay and understood its importance in affecting the person she was. Their evening ended platonically, but it reminded her that she still had the capacity to connect with a man. Lindsay said that in a small, but significant way, something shifted in her that night that felt good and restorative. It was the start to their future together. THEIR PARTY A party was held at Tripp Farms in Greenville, N.C. when the couple returned from their trip to the Dominican Republic, so family and friends could celebrate with them. Their party was hosted by family and friends, including: Debbie Allen, Renea Baker, Denice Wyatt, Joyce Harris, Jordan Robertson, Stacey Andrews, Tina Wooding, Raymie Styons, Jennifer Allsup, Michelle Jarman, and Laurie Bullock. The bride and groom exited the reception to the song “She Thinks My Tractor’s Sexy.” Surrounded by friends and sparklers, they hopped into a big green John Deere Tractor, as the groom is an 8th generation farmer. SPECIAL EVENTS The First Meeting Austin and Amber met while studying Criminal Justice at Campbell University. Over time they became friends and then realized they were head over heels for one another. The Proposal in Her Words Austin asked me to ride to the beach to enjoy a day with our puppy, Tuggie. I love photography, so he suggested I get a shot of them with the ocean in the background, so I walked up the dune a short distance. When I turned around, he was on one knee with Tuggie by his side. I immediately froze and blurted out “Shut up!” Despite my ridiculous comment, he proceeded with the sweetest words that melted my heart, of course I said, “YES!” Parties and Showers A winter wonderland themed engagement party at Moratoc Park, Williamston, NC. Two bridal showers, one at Macedonia Christian Church, Wiliamston, NC and one at the home of Courtney Jennings (sister-inlaw), Camden, NC. 10-12 MONTHS before the big day…

l Introduce the families; officially announce the engagement. l Find out who pays for what and start a budget. l Create a guest list and manage it with our easy-to-use tool. l Compare calendars and select a tentative date. l Choose your wedding party. l Create a wedding website to share your engagement. l Consider whitening your teeth for parties and photographs. l Interview and hire a wedding coordinator, if needed. l Decide if you want premarital counseling. l Start looking photos of wedding dresses for inspiration. l Send your engagement photo to the local paper. l Begin thinking about where you want to honeymoon. l Visit and book your reception site, and arrange for parking. l Visit and book your ceremony location and rehearsal time. l Create a save-the-date guest list.

6-9 MONTHS before the big day…

Bring stockings, shoes, bra, hair accessories, jewelry, camera, and mom or best friend. l Finalize readings and songs; review with performers. l Order liquor or beverages not handled by caterer. l Meet with officiant; finalize ceremony and formations. l Begin writing your vows if applicable. l Begin writing thank-you notes for bridal showers and early wedding gifts, and update your registry at the same time. l Research where to get your marriage license. l Prepare a photo/video wish list, naming family and guests. l Schedule bridesmaids’ luncheon and buy attendant gifts. l Begin whitening your teeth for your wedding day. l Consider liability insurance for your reception location.

3-4 WEEKS before the big day…
