Mr Karting

Martin Hines known throughout the Motorsport World as ‘Mr Karting’ and the proud owner of Grand Prix Racewear and Zip Kart tragically passed away on 28th August 2011.

With over 40 years experience and passion for motorsport he had an amazing ability to recognise young talent on the race track and provide the means for them to develop into internationally renowned drivers. Having heartfelt tributes from Lewis Hamilton, David Coulthard and Jason Plato broadcast on TV, shows what an extraordinary man he was and the contribution he made to their careers. His talent spotting was not just confined to the track but to business opportunities with the world renowned Zip Kart, the home of the leading Young Guns team and GPR as a leading Racewear Emporium.

Step one: Lay the bag onto a flat surface. Form a seat shape. Apply a slight vacuum. Put the bag into the car, get the driver into the car.

Step two: If you have too many beads, remove bag, remove valve and empty beads. Once the driver is happy with the bead volume, driver out and remove bag.

5 Step six: Form a seat shape again. Make sure you have removed creases, front and back.

7 Step seven: Put the bag back into the car. Take time to re-position the seat before the driver gets in. Get the driver back in.

Start Karting...

Buy the start karting pack from the MSA or ARKS School. This costs £47 and contains your novice driver licence application form, study the regulations and the DVD. After you have had enough practice, and have learnt the regulations, then book the ARKS novice driver test. Certain clubs can carry out the test, as well as the ARKS Schools. If you are 18 or over, you will need to have a medical, both you and your Doctor need to complete parts of the licence application form, this usually costs about £90. To take the Arks test costs £87. It is in two parts; a driving test and a multiple choice questionnaire covering the flag signals and Regulations. Joining a Kart club; make sure it is a member of ABKC, send off for your competition licence, (£32 or free for under 16’s), and then enter your first race. (Under 18’s can race immediately)

Kart Formulas Explained Bambino Age 6-8th Birthday Boys and girls can start at the age of 6 in a Bambino karts. The only competition allowed is time trials, and only after an ARKS Instructor or Examiner has certified that the youngster is safe to take part. Cadet Age 8-13 Birthday Boys and girls can start racing karts at the age of 8 in one of the Cadet classes. They can continue until the end of the year of their 13th birthday, although they may be getting too heavy by then and so can move into

certain Junior classes from the age of 11. The special minikarts used are registered with prices controlled to an agreed maximum. Top speed is about 50mph. The FKS series holds the British Comer Cadet Championship whilst the Super One Series has the ABkC Comer championship. Comer Cadet Uses a 60cc sealed 2-stroke Comer engine so rebuilds have to be carried out by an approved service agent. Because this is the class used for the premier championships, it is run by most clubs. Super Cadet A’bridging class between cadets and juniors with more powerful 60cc 2-stroke Un-sealed engines and slightly larger karts. Juniors Age 11-17th Birthday Drivers can start racing in Rotax MiniMax at age 11, then move into the more powerful Junior Max from age 13. All Rotax classes are TAG. Rotax are more expensive initially but the engine runs longer between rebuilds, so the running costs can be less. You may also see the new 125cc KF3 international class at championship events, and possibly at club races too. Top speeds in the junior classes vary from 55mph to 75mph. The best advice here, as in all classes, is to visit your local circuit to see what is popular in your area. Mini Max 11+ Is the lowest powered class of the Rotax family, and uses a very restricted 125cc 2-stroke TAG engine. All Rotax engines are sealed and have a log-book showing the service history. By taking the restrictor out of a MiniMax it is converted to a Junior Max (age 13-17yrs). It is one of the most powerful junior

classes, with top speed about 70 mph. KF3 11+ This is the Premier British Championship class in the Super One Series for 13-17 yrs, which is also raced at European and World class level. Not a class for the inexperienced. Seniors Age 16 upwards The junior classes all have more powerful senior equivalents. The most popular senior class in the country is Rotax Max. Once some experience has been gained there are further options within the premier international classes, raced primarily at the major championships. These KF2 and Super KF (SKF) classes use a variety of 125cc TAG engines, similar to Max. They are restricted in maximum rpm for longer life. Both are raced in the Super One Series with SKF being the MSA British Championship. Senior classes top out at 85mph. Rotax Max: This is the senior equivalent of Junior Max, with a very powerful 125cc TAG engine. Although the maximum revs are limited electronically, they are nearly as quick as KF2, but much lower maintenance, and sealed to prevent unapproved tuning. Care needs to be taken if starting in this class. Like many classes there is a higher weight variant called Rotax 177 for the heavier driver Jake Dennis Zip Young Guns Team, World & British Champion.

When placing an order online or over the phone, we require your card number, expiry date, issue number, security code and statement address details, please have this information to hand when you place your order. SPECIAL ORDERS: 2. On any non stock special order items we will require a deposit of 50% of the order value which is non refundable in the event of cancellation. 3. Size, quality, style, fabric content, embroidery, colour and suitability for the chosen purpose should be checked by the purchaser on receipt of the goods. Whilst every effort is made to ensure consistency of colour and shades, variation may occur from one dye batch to another and the company will accept no responsibility for such variation. 4. or resale. 22. Printed or embroidered goods will not be accepted back for returns under any circumstances. 23. Garments sold as samples are non-returnable 24. Goods cannot be returned after 7 days from date of purchase. 25. All underwear is non-returnable. EXCHANGE OF GOODS: 26. Whilst we endeavour to supply the correct size, inevitably on occasions an exchange is required, we will happily exchange size on all stock items once you have returned the goods in their original condition with all packaging. GOODS NO LONGER REQUIRED: 27. If for any reason you are not completely satisfied with your goods you may return them to us within 7 days, complete with all packaging in original condition and proof of purchase, for a refund, credit or exchange at our discretion, after the issue of a Returned Goods Authorisation number. 28. This does not apply to non-stock items which have been specially obtained to fill your order. 29.
