Being Ready to Become the ASEAN Wellness Hub and a Leading University with International Recognition

On 25 September 2022, MFU celebrated its 24 th anniversary for myriad achievements in promoting teaching, research, academic service, arts and culture at C4 Auditorium. MFU’s celebration, broadcast live on Facebook page, consisted of a ceremony to pay homage to the royal statue of HRH Princess Srinagarindra, a religious ceremony, a robe offering ceremony, a public report, a presentation of certificates honoured staff’s outstanding contributions to the university and a scholarship presentation.

In a public report section, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Chayaporn Wattanasiri, President of Mae Fah Luang University reported the university’s activities and achievements throughout the preceding year in four aspects: empowering society, fostering global citizen, strengthening frontier research, and leading university in ASEAN.

For empowering society aspect, the Medicinal Plant Innovation Center of Mae Fah Luang University and the Tea and Coffee Institute of Mae Fah Luang University have conducted research and supported communities in terms of value addition and supply chain of medicinal plants, tea and coffee. Moreover, the School of Agro-Industry has cooperated with the Charoen Pokphand Foods Public Company Limited (CPF) in developing plant-based protein and functional food for elderly. MFU has also cooperated with government organisations to improve the quality of English and Chinese language teaching in the Eastern Economic Corridor and to support the development of community enterprises, local product prototypes, channels of distribution and communitybased tourism through the U2T project. Moreover, to enhance sustainable health promotion, the MFU Medical Center has offered conventional and traditional medicine for over 200,000 patients. MFU has also established collaboration with all sectors to become ASEAN wellness hub. To provide an accessible and flexible way to learn new skills and study new topics, MFU has offered various free online courses under MFU Academy project which allow learners to take interesting and academic courses from anywhere, at any time and receive e-certificate.

In the first semester of academic year 2022, MFU has welcomed over 4,000 new students from Thailand and 369 international students from 31 countries around the world. The university has strong determination to produce graduates with MFU characters including knowledgeability, language proficiency, leadership skill and ability to work in multicultural environment. Students will develop essential soft skills by participating in various activities as both participant and organiser throughout their student life.
