N EWSL ET TER IMZ MEMBER NEWS ČESKÁ TELEVIZE Pavel Haas Quartet Records For New Czech Television Format “The world’s most exciting string quartet? Well, they suit the tagline better than most. Their tone is large, quasi-orchestral. They take risks. Above all, they play with passion.” The Times, January 2010 Unique sound and camera rendition brings the art of the Pavel Haas Quartet to a broader public’s attention. Parts of string quartet pieces by Janáček, Prokofjev, Britten and Schubert have just been edited by Czech Television as a part of the special chamber music series Bravo! featuring the best of the young generation of Czech and Slovak classical interprets. Thus, in the attractive venue of the Benedictine’s Monastery in Rajhrad, a great scope of music has been captured ranging from early baroque to contemporary repertoire.

Selecting from more than 1,000 new releases from the last year, 47 critics awarded the Pavel Haas Quartet's album Dvorák String Quartets Nos. 12 and 13 (Supraphon) Recording Of The Year at the Gramophone Awards 2011. "It is a truly great honour for us considering just how vast the number of recordings entered for the Gramophone Awards is”, says the Pavel Haas Quartet violinist Eva Karová after receiving the prize, adding: "Yet the greatest reward for us is always the enthusiasm and response of the audiences at our concerts and after them.” Bravo!, a new chamber music format, duration: 30 min, broadcast from January 2012 onwards on Czech television. N EWSL ET TER IMZ MEMBER NEWS ACE ARTS A VENTURE WITH SCREENVISION FOR US THEATRICAL PERFORMING ARTS SCREENINGS New IMZ member Ace Arts, founded in New York by Susan Wittenberg and Chris Hunt, is delighted to announce that it has signed an agreement to supply US theatrical distributor Screenvision with a monthly series of performing arts film screenings commencing January 2012. These will be heavily marketed by both Screenvision and Ace Arts. Screenvision expects to provide 300-600 screens in the US and Canada, depending on the breadth of appeal of each film. These are not intended to be live relays, though that may occasionally be possible, and they will probably be shown 2 or 3 times each. While Ace Arts has a number of projects already in place for 2012 there remain some slots available, particularly for ballets, plays and musicals from major venues or featuring artists with strong name recognition in the US (there is less need for concerts, operas and documentaries). Holdbacks against US DVD will be required. The model is revenue-share as is standard in this area, but the very large number of screenings points to the potential for far larger returns than are possible with other routes to the US cinema market. Please contact Susan Wittenberg, President of Ace Arts, or see Susan or Chris Hunt at midem if you have programming that might fit.
