Excerpts from private recordings of phone calls between the maestro and his sound engineer Gßnter Hermanns were exclusively analysed for this film and provide an authentic insight into Karajan's work. The central question is what will remain of Karajan, who made more recordings than anyone else, and his unprecedented ambitious artistic legacy. Interviews with important companions of Karajan such as Anne-Sophie Mutter, Brigitte Fassbaender, Peter Alward and others provide insight to this question and much more.
