It’s easy to see why the women veterinarians at Northlake Veterinary Hospital make it such a special place to visit. With their warm friendly personalities and unique team collaboration, each doctor brings a special trait to the team. It doesn’t hurt that the facility is conveniently located right off the causeway and updated with lots of top-ofthe line equipment. Whether your pet is there for boarding, grooming, dental care, microchipping, ultrasounds, surgery, annual vaccinations, preventive services or even intensive care, this team has got you covered. Their highly trained expertise, easy-going demeanor and caring attitudes make any client feel at ease. Doctors Mauberret, Linn, Beck and Hymel are the ultimate professionals when it comes to quality animal care.

Dr. Catherine Mauberret has been one of the leading female veterinarians at Northlake Veterinary Hospital for over twenty-five years. Although she splits her time between Northlake and the Fairgrounds, her dedication to the job is transparent. She says her favorite thing about being a veterinarian is “helping animals that are badly hurt or sick and saving their life. It’s extremely rewarding for me.” Growing up, Dr. Mauberret’s father was a vet, so there were plenty of animals all around the house. Her love for animals was apparent at an early age, which is why she decided to follow in her dad’s footsteps and become a vet.

Meeting Dr. Craig Guidry at the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine in 1990 was just an added bonus. The two became good friends, and after Dr. Guidry bought Northlake Veterinary Hospital, she began to work for him. “Dr. Guidry truly is an amazing doctor who has created an incredible clinic. It has grown so much over the years because of his caring nature. He cares about his staff, he cares about his clients, and mostly, he cares about the animals he takes care of. He has made Northlake Veterinary Hospital a wonderful place to work,” says Dr. Mauberret.

Dr. Mallory Linn has been a vet at Northlake since June 2019. However, animals have always been her passion. “I started riding horses around age 6. Horses were a big part of my life. The more I was around them, the more encounters I had with veterinarians, which really inspired me early on.” Dr. Linn eventually went on to study animal science at LSU while working at a vet clinic as an undergrad. One of her favorite parts of her work is taking in pets who are really sick and nursing them back to health so that they are able to be reunited with their owners. She says, “The expressions on their owners’ faces when they get them back are priceless.”

She also loves doing surgery. “Surgery is just fascinating to me. It is always exciting and extremely rewarding.” When Dr. Linn is not working, she can be found riding horses, kayaking, hiking and watching LSU baseball and football. GO TIGERS!

Dr. Jeanne Beck began volunteering at a local animal shelter in New Orleans when she was just ten years old. After falling in love with animals, she began working at clinics alongside veterinarians, which opened up a whole other side to caring for animals. From then on, she began taking in strays and fostering animals. She says, “Luckily, my parents got used to the idea of always having animals around. I was regularly bringing home new pets to foster, and I knew from a young age that being a veterinarian is what I was meant to do.” Dr. Beck attended Mount Carmel Academy in New Orleans and earned a bachelor’s degree in animal sciences from LSU. She persevered toward her dream and earned a doctorate of veterinary medicine from LSU in 2020. When Dr. Beck joined Northlake last year, she knew that the team they had there was something special. “I love having so many doctors working together at Northlake. We can openly consult with each other, which allows us to thoroughly work up cases and make sure our clients and patients are getting the best care.” Now, she has started another new chapter of life—motherhood. As a new mom, Dr. Beck enjoys spending time with her baby girl, witnessing all of those first special moments. She also loves hanging out with her husband and two dogs. When she’s not busy at work or home with her family, Dr. Beck likes to get out and fish, garden and stay active.

Dr. Paige Hymel may be fairly new to Northlake, but she has wasted no time learning the ins and outs of the hospital. She says, “Going from a clinic that was only open certain hours to a 24/7 veterinary hospital has been amazing.” Dr. Hymel spends most of her time working in the emergency department seeing cases that always manage to keep her on her toes. “From pulling rocks out of a dog’s intestines, to checking for a chipped tooth, I have seen it all. It has been so rewarding to transition to critical care and have the ability to care for animals overnight. In a 24/7 veterinary hospital, you would have to worry about your critical patients and rush over in the morning to make sure they were OK. Now, we don’t have to do that—I can monitor closely all night if needed.” Working nights can be exhausting, but it does not stop this doctor from enjoying her down time. When she is not working, you can find Dr. Hymel painting, hiking and spending time outside. She loves to do pet portraits, and even painted the lobby of Northlake Veterinary Hospital. Be sure to check it out at your next visit.
