Valley

The Old Welland Canal located in Canal Valley, St. Catharines is the second of five canals built for the movement of goods and services between Lake Erie and Lake Ontario in the 1800s.Due the 326ft difference between the lakes, the canal used a system of locks to transport the ships from one elevation to the next. This is a study of what is now an abandoned canal system turned into a leisure park. The remains of the wall are visible near each lock. The site today is heavily polluted and is in need of rejuvenation to connect the history of St. Catharines and the larger issues facing the local community.
