The Most and Least Favorite Jobs in Nursing Most nurses love their jobs, and accept the fact that while most of the job is great, there are some parts that they would just as soon do without. Favorite Areas to Work - Admitting a patient into the hospital can be interesting, and most nurses agree, it gives them a chance to get to know the patient right from the start. The other great thing is, if the patient is scared or nervous, this is a time that the nurse is able to put their minds and ease, making them feels more comfortable in their treatment. - Assisting the physician in a procedure is another favored of most nurses. It is often a learning experience, and every step of the way, you are aware it is improving quality of life for the patient. - Delivery rooms are almost always a very happy place. Nurses that work in this area are able to experience new life being brought into the world, and to see the look of joy on parent’s faces. Least Favorite Area’s to Work - Without a doubt, most nurses agree the emergency room is not for everyone. While some nurses love the fast pace variety of the emergency department, most would not select the ER as their favored place to work. - Recovery rooms are among the least favored positions for nurses. Many nurses say they don’t care for working in the recovery room. Patients are waking up from anesthesia, and may be irritable, upset, or confused. In other words, there really is no such thing as a happy patient in the recovery room. Many patients also get very nauseated after surgery, and may wake up vomiting. Related:

Favorite Jobs of Nurses While most nurses agree that admitting the patient into the hospital is interesting, it also lets them get to know the parson quickly. Nurses say that their favorite times during a shift are when they have time to converse with the patients. Each patient has a unique story and it can be a great conversation to see what their story is, you get to know the patient. Another favorite for nurses are when the families come to visit the patient. It’s nice to observe the interaction, and it tells the nurse how much the family is involved with the patient. Also, most patients cheer up and are


happy to see family members, or course nurses like to see the patient happy, and usually they are very happy to see their family come for a visit. Nurses can become attached to some patients, they enjoy seeing them on a daily basis, and it’s also a favorite time for nurses to see patients get to leave the hospital. You know that you have done all you can, and the patient is hopefully now on the road to recovery. Training new nurses can be a least favorite, or a favorite, depending on the person. Some people enjoy training, and introducing the world of medicine to a new nurse, while others dread it. When working with a new nurse, you are able to impact them, and take pride in the fact that they will most likely always remember their initial trainings with you. The techniques you demonstrate hands on will stick with them throughout their career, you will have a big impact on the new nurse. On the other hand, some nurses do not enjoy training new nurses. They say it takes away from their own job, and they don’t enjoy critiquing the new nurse on the way they perform their duties. This is strictly a personality issue, some people enjoy teaching, and some don’t. This is a good thing, if we all wanted the same job it would leave a lot of uncovered positions.
