Technical Officer Latin America and Caribbean Office Location: Quito, Ecuador Duration: 1 year, with three months’ probation Report to: Regional Coordinator The International Network for Bamboo and Rattan (INBAR) is the only global inter-governmental development organization committed to reducing poverty and protecting the environment through the use of bamboo and rattan. With headquarters in Beijing, China and offices in India, Ethiopia, Ghana and Ecuador, the INBAR Secretariat supports its 44 Member States worldwide and has links with a large number of international, regional, and national organizations. INBAR is currently seeking an experienced and highly capable Technical Officer, working in INBAR LAC office in Quito, Ecuador. The salary-range for this position is USD 2,000 to USD 2,400/month. (In Ecuador, INBAR staff of nonEcuatorian nationality has tax free status) Responsibilities •

Assist the Regional Coordinator in the preparation, development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of project/ programs of bamboo and rattan; provide technical inputs and coordinate assessment, survey and research activities and Beneficiaries identification;

Reviews relevant documents and reports; identifies priorities, problems and issues to be addressed and proposes corrective actions;

Prepares various written outputs with respect to the field support aspects of current and proposed INBAR LAC operations, e.g. background papers, analysis, technical field reports and studies, inputs to publications, progress report, etc.;

Designs and coordinates training workshops, seminars, etc., makes presentations on assigned topics / activities with respect to the promotion of bamboo and rattan as an alternative for sustainable and green development;

Participates in field missions, including provision of guidance to external consultants, INBAR personnel and stakeholders;

Supports the activities related to the development of budget and funding (budget preparation and submissions, progress reports, financial statements, etc.) and ensures preparation of


related documents/reports (work programme, programme budget, etc.) with respect to the support field aspects of relevant INBAR LAC operations; •

Participate and provide inputs in the development of programmatic priorities and strategies for promotion of bamboo and rattan as an alternative for sustainable and green development;

Participate in regular coordination meetings;

Other tasks as reasonably requested by your supervisor

Requirements Academic Qualifications: Advance university degree in environmental science, sustainable economy, natural resource management or related field. Experience: Six years of relevant experience in formulation and implementation of sustainable development projects and programmes, including experience in management of Global Funds (GEF, Adaptation Fund, Green Fund, others); Demonstrated experience of working with government agencies, NGOs, UN Agencies and other international organizations will be desirable. IT Skills: Advance knowledge of all Microsoft Office programs (Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook). Language: fluent in Spanish and English. Knowledge in Portuguese will be assessed. Technical Skills: Work experience in more than one location or area of work, particularly in field positions is essential; relevance of experience in technical fields related to sustainable livelihoods systems, sustainable forestry development, and resilience and disaster risk reduction; relevance of experience in leading multidisciplinary teams for the design, implementation support or evaluation; demonstrated experience in dealing with government officials, development partners and other country stakeholders; high level of knowledge in logframe, monitoring and evaluation project procedures.
