Delhi

A tale of seven cities

As a city Over a 1000 years old, Delhi has been been an important urban centre from at least the 11th century ruled by 7 dynasties and the British. It thus contains ancient pilgrimage centres, abandoned cities, a thriving medieval city, a colonial capital and urban villages all within a expanding modern city. Let us showcase for you the story of these historical cities of Delhi, let you hear about the history and mythology of these cities and discuss people and events which defined them. The seat of British power in India, New Delhi differs from Old Delhi, which was the seat of the Mughals in India a few centuries earlier. Captivating ancient monuments are a testament to Mughal majesty while magnificent museums offer unrivalled collections of art history. New Delhi’s vivid performing-arts scene thrives as does the subcontinent’s culinary offerings. Together, India’s capital is sprinkled with glittering gems that span the gamut from the past to the future.

Jaipur

Of Grandeur & Decadence

As a city Cradled at the foot of the Nahargarh Hills, Jaipur is a royal city, its extravagant palaces and forts evoking the magnificence of Rajput princes. The city was masterplanned in 1727 by its brilliant ruler, Jai Singh II. Employing Shilpa Shastra, the ancient philosophy of architecture, the plan yielded a pleasingly cohesive layout. Painted terracotta pink in 1876 to welcome a state visit by Prince Albert, Jaipur has been known as the Pink City ever since. While modern industry has transformed the city into an international business center, the heart of this ancient “Pink City still beats in its fairy tales palaces, and hilltop fortresses. The only planned city of its time, it is a maze of fascinating bazaars, magnificent palaces and historic sights.

The Manganiyar Seduction

Sometimes, performances come along that you just know are going to be special.... The Manganiyar Seduction a is one of those performances.... That seduction, called The Manganiyar Seduction took three years to conceive and perfect, a sensual extravaganza of theatre, music, installation and pageantry. That seduction was first presented to the public at the Osian Film Festival in 2006 in New Delhi and has since then, successfully – and to great acclaim – toured Europe and Australia. They performed in Singapore at the 2010 Singapore Art Festival, their first Asian performance. Spanning three generations, the singers unleash their deeply-rooted gypsy traditions and history through their musical charms. Their songs reflect their heritage and range from classical ballads to Sufi mysticism, covering topics such as feasts, life, birth and marriage.
