City real estate tradition continues with new look A RECENT re-branding to Professionals Geelong has sparked interest among homebuyers and sellers around the city, according to director Jason Barnett. The former Walter L Carr and Sons and Allpoints@Carr office joined the Professionals franchise late last year. Mr Barnett said he had received “great, positive feedback” on the change, which included a makeover for the office. “The high-profile position on Latrobe Terrace is great and people just have to look for the flags at the front of the office,” Mr Barnett said. “Professionals has a really good handle on social networking and a good grasp of newer technology like QR codes. “We’re happy to bring a fresh and new approach to this year. We’d love any past clients or anybody who is interested to come and chat to one of the guys to see whether we can help you get sold in the new year.” Mr Barnett said Professionals Geelong’s QR code system would allow potential buyers to use their “smart phones” to take pictures of barcodes on brochures or sales boards for more information on properties. “The phone scans the barcode and automatically directs the buyer to a website that tells them about the property.” Mr Barnett said his office was looking forward to capitalising on the Professionals technology

REAL estate agents recorded a mixed bag of auction results last weekend but are gearing up for a busy few weeks, according to an industry representative. Real Estate Institute of Victoria chief executive Enzo Raimondo said REIV expected 180 auctions across Victoria this weekend compared to 126 in December and January. He predicted auction numbers could be up to 700 a weekend in Victoria by late February. “It’s important to note that it’s too early to compare the market last year,” Mr Raimondo said. “The REIV is expecting 180 auctions next weekend, with 390 the weekend after then 700 on the weekend February 19 and 20. “Since December 20 there have been 126 auctions reported, with a clearance rate of 55 per cent achieved. This compares with the 82 per cent recorded this weekend last year from 80 auctions.” Mr Raimondo said buyers still faced “key affordability issues”, with a 2.6 per cent in Geelong’s median price during the last quarter to $379,750. “This shows that housing affordability will be a key issue for buyers this year. “Increased house prices in the last quarter and over the past two years are due to an imbalance between housing supply and the needs of our growing population. “This is a systemic problem with the local market and steps need to be taken to increase supply over the medium-term to ensure it isn’t further diminished in the future.”
