Village a ‘design leader’

BUILDERS and real estate agents have welcomed another reserve bank interest rates reprieve. The bank announced after its monthly meeting this week that rates would stay on hold again. Housing Industry Association chief economist Dr Harley Dale welcomed the decision after a series of increases in 2010. “It is a positive sign for the housing industry that in 2011 the reserve bank has clearly signalled a period of interest rate stability,” he said.

First-home buyers are eligible for $7000 as part of the Government’s First-Home Owners Grant system. A building bonus of $13,000 for first-time buyers is also available for newly constructed homes and there is a $6500 bonus for homes built in regional areas, like Geelong. Hotondo Homes’ sales consultant Chad Baker encourages new-home buyers to take opportunity before its end date. “This mean’s if you build a new home in Geelong, you’re eligible to receive $26,500 worth of grants and bonuses towards a new home, making it more affordable,” he says. “It will only be available for contracts signed by the June 30.” Chad says knowing where to start is often the hardest part of building a new home. “Getting into the property market can be a long process, especially if you decide to build. “The first step would be to make an appointment with your local
