They are women,hear them roar WOMEN feel they are being ignored by real estate agents, according to new research. A First National Real Estate report revealed more than one-in-four women said agents took more notice of their partner when they bought a home. The report also revealed that older women felt they were the most discriminated against when dealing with real estate agents. First National McDonald and Company principal Greg McDonald cautioned agents who continued to ignore women. “This is completely unacceptable in this day and age,” Mr McDonald said. “Women play a critical role in the property purchasing decision, and as such, it is crucial agents take them into account, from the way the property is marketed, right through to inclusive conversations with both sides of the home buying relationship.” Mr McDonald said the number of women purchasing property on their own had doubled in the past two years.

“Apart from being discriminatory, it is not good for business and bad for the industry overall,” he said. He said the survey interviewed 1200 women around Australia from different age groups. Survey results showed the older women became, the more they felt agents weren’t listening to them. “The feeling seemed more prevalent in those who had bought a house between 11 and 20 years ago than those who had bought a house more than 20 years ago,” Mr McDonald said. The survey also revealed that suburb safety was a major influence for women buyers. “Interestingly, the older the women surveyed were, the less important this became as an influencing factor, although it was still the key one,” he said. Other influencing factors for women included number of rooms, outdoor living areas, off-street parking, renovation potential and proximity to public transport and shops.
