Agents peddle for Salvos PRD Jens Gaunt real estate agents Tim Wells and Michael Darken will swap their power suits for lycra next week when they take off on a two-day bike ride from Geelong to Warrnambool to raise money for the Salvation Army. PRD Jens Gaunt has teamed up with PRD Nationwide for the Ride Home fundraising initiative. Senior real estate agent Mr Wells hoped the charity ride would raise more than $20,000. “We deal with the property market every day but the bigger picture is that there are many people and families who don’t have homes and live in poverty for a range of reasons and these people need our support,” he said. Fellow rider Mr Darken encouraged public support for their Ride Home adventure. “The Salvation Army is an incredible organisation and I also encourage others to support the Salvos this Christmas,” he said. The pair will leave Geelong on their bikes at 9.30am Wednesday 15 and ride through Lara, Werribee, Melton and Ballarat on their way to Victoria’s south-west. They planned to visit six PRD Nationwide offices along the route before ending their journey on December 18 at Warrnambool. Mr Darken said staff from PRD Nationwide offices around Victoria had donated to the cause and encouraged local communities to

Queenscliff prices ‘set pace for local property market’ AN 83 PER CENT increase in Queenscliff house prices over four years is a “good sign” for the rest of the region’s property market, according to real estate agents. An Australian Bureau of Statistics national regional profile survey has revealed that the average value of homes in Queenscliff jumped from $280,900 in 2004/2005 to $515,000 in 2008/2009. Average prices rose 16.8 per cent in greater Geelong and 12.8 per cent on the Surf Coast during the same period. Harcourts Geelong director Donna Ellmer-Buckingham said the increase at Queenscliff was a good sign for the rest of the market. “During the recession, people stopped overspending on holiday houses, driving the prices down, so the fact that house values have increased so much is a good indicator for the market.” Ms Ellmer-Buckingham said hefty price tags on Bellarine Peninsula and Surf Coast homes had “locked out” many first-time buyers from these areas. “First-home buyers definitely now have to buy as a partnership if they want a house in one of those areas and the banks have tightened a lot with lending for big mortgages. “Geelong values have steadily increased in a good way and I think that will be the case for the next few years. Investors especially are a bigger market than they were 12 years ago because rental returns are so good now.” Ray White Bellarine’s Mandy Brilliant said an increase in Melbournians buying Queenscliff properties helped push up prices in the past few years.
