‘Client focus’wins award for Barry Plant Leopold BARRY Plant Leopold has won an Australian Achiever Award for outstanding customer service. The real estate agency received glowing praise from clients who scored Barry Plant Leopold’s customer service 99.39 per cent during the 2010 judging process. The award was a pleasant surprise for soon-to-be director Rhiannon Russell, who will take over from Graham Hare when he retires in a few months. Ms Russell described the accolade as “exciting”. She said the award proved Barry Plant’s reputation of “exceptional client focus”. “Primarily we focus on our clients and looking after their needs,” Ms Russell said. “We aim to help them through the buying or selling process and communicate with them. “The feedback we received from the Australian Achiever Award surveys was really positive and encouraging.” Ms Russell said client feedback had included praise for the

business’s “high standards, marketing, advertising and service”. “One client described us as very friendly and down-to-earth and said we always tried our best to achieve the best possible outcome,” she said. “It’s really important to our team that we relate well to our clients, so this award is proof of that.” Ms Russell said she was looking forward to her new role as director. She hoped to build on the business’s existing high standards. “Graham Hare is going to be really missed around here. He has been in real estate for 20 years and has really grown this business,” Ms Russell said. “There are always ways to improve and I’m looking forward to continued training and keeping the staff positive. “We have a really close-knit team here who love what they do and work hard to get the best results for their clients.”

QUEENSCLIFF’S Royal Hotel has become the third historic hotel in the town to go on the market this year. The hotel last week joined other iconic landmarks Vue Grand and Queenscliff Hotel in the hunt for a buyer. Vue Grand was first listed in March for private sale, while Queenscliff Hotel failed to attract bidders at auction on May 2. As the oldest of the three venues, the Royal will be sold in a 60-day expression-of-interest process. Owner Stephen Wilson, who “wasn’t concerned” about the competition, considered now an appropriate time to sell. “This is a very unique property, quite different from the two other historic properties for sale in the area,” Mr Wilson said. “It’s probably the biggest mansion this side of Melbourne and could be used as a hotel or turned into a private home. “Our property is different. In fact, it’s a lot more unique than the Vue Grand or the Queenscliff Hotel, which are too big to turn into a residence.” Mr Wilson said he had owned the hotel for 20 years but was “in no hurry to sell” the iconic property. “If it sits there for 12 months to two years then that’s okay.” He could not put a value on the property. “At this stage we’re just going to see what people think and aren’t looking at a particular price. No one knows the value because it is so unique. “You can pay $3 million for a house in Queenscliff, so what value do you then put on the biggest mansion this side of Melbourne?” Mr Wilson said the landmark could follow the footsteps of Queenscliff’s former Ozone Hotel, which sold five years ago. The buyer later began transforming the Ozone into apartments. “It’s the perfect size to be adapted into a private residence or turned into apartments,” he said. “We’ve a lot of land around the hotel that could be utilised, whereas the other two properties on the market are fairly land-locked.” The original hotel, called Leihy’s Royal Hotel was built in 1854, but was destroyed by fire in May, 1881. The existing building was designed by Melbourne architect John Flanaghan and completed in November 1892. The building features an 18-metre square spire tower with views of Port
