Harcourts celebrates a ‘milestone’in the north HARCOURTS North Geelong staff have popped open champagne to celebrate 20 years of real estate service to Geelong’s northern suburbs. Director Joe Grgic said he was proud and excited to reach the milestone. Mr Grgic said the business had grown steadily since 1991 when his father Mario began the oneman operation. “Mario started the business in 1991 under very harsh conditions in the so-called recession we had to have,” he recalled. “It was a small office where Mario’s wife, Marie, was the receptionist and there were no properties to manage. “The business grew steadily and now we have a sales team of seven and five in property management, plus administration and support staff. “Last year we joined the Harcourts group, which has a world-wide network and a great culture that matched our business and family values.” Mr Grgic said advancing

Mario Grgic, who now serves the agency as sales manager, said advances in technology had changed the role of real estate agents. “That’s where real local knowledge and understanding of the area where you work is so important,” he said. “Technology has also changed the way in which we communicate. “Many clients nowadays depend upon receiving information and updates via email as well as good old-fashioned phone calls and home visits.” Mr Grgic said Geelong’s real estate landscape had changed dramatically over the past 10 years. “In particular, the northern suburbs have seen considerable growth and the number of Melbourne investors has increased. They no longer see Geelong as a lesser option,” he said. “The fundamental principle always remains and that is to listen to what people want and to know that they deserve great customer service and nothing less.”
Ex-leaders ‘toast service of REIV’ PAST presidents of the Real Estate Institute of Victoria’s Geelong branch shared “many a joke” while celebrating 99 years of the organisation’s service to the region at an industry luncheon last week. First National Real Estate’s Greg McDonald said REIV state president John Grabyn and chief executive officer Enzo Raimondo also attended the luncheon at Geelong’s Chifley on the Esplanade. “They were on hand to assure all that, despite comments from some real estate franchise groups, the REIV was still very relevant to the profession and would continue to represent real estate practices in Victoria for the next century. “The REIV regularly makes submissions to government on licensing, business practice, and most recently, reductions to stamp duty for first-home buyers.” Mr McDonald said the luncheon demonstrated that the REIV was “still in good hands”. REIV members from as far back as 1970 attended.
