Martine Symsâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; multimedia works offer a critical exploration of the performance, circulation and consumption of blackness and contemporary identity politics in visual culture. Baphomet, named after the English deity, features Syms signature color choice of purple, and employs her practice of appropriating imagery from popular culture and the internet, in this case replicating a faceless devil emoji. Syms is represented by Bridget Donahue in New York and Sadie Coles HQ in London.

Independent Curators International (ICI) supports the work of curators to help create stronger art communities through experimentation, collaboration, and international engagement. Curators are arts community leaders and organizers who champion artistic practice; build essential infrastructures and institutions; and generate public engagement with art. Our collaborative programs connect curators across generations, and across social, political and cultural borders.
