The Cambridge Dictionary defines simulation as "a model of a set of problems or events that can be used to teach someone how to do something". In the case of flight simulation, it means that we can use a model of how an aircraft works to teach someone how to control the aircraft. Flight simulators are used to train pilots. It is especially useful for abnormal and emergency operating procedures that may be unsafe in the aircraft itself. These situations include engine failures and mechanical malfunctions affecting the electrical, hydraulic, pressurisation, and flight systems. Full Flight Simulators duplicate all aspects of the aircraft and its environment. Full flight simulators are highly advanced and expensive pieces of equipment. Ansett Aviation Training close to Tullamarine International Airport in Melbourne, Australia has the largest aviation training facility in the Southern Hemisphere and has twelve full simulators. These simulators make pilot training much cheaper and safer. Emergencies or extreme weather conditions can be simulated for training purposes. You can book an hour in one of the flight simulators at a cost of $ 920. Fortunately, computer technology has made flight simulation accessible and much more affordable for those who do not require high-level training or those who want to play it as a game. Ever since I can remember, I wanted to fly. I am now 16 and have done my first solo flight. I want to become a Commercial Airline Pilot. My career goal is to be the youngest pilot-in-command of an Airbus A380. I know I have a long way to go, but I am determined to work hard to get there. Ever since I dreamt of being a pilot, I had Microsoft Flight Simulator and was playing away for hours on end. Later, when I discovered that there were tutorials to learn to fly, I became fascinated with my flight simulator. I spent hours learning to fly the Cessna 172, not really knowing that I would soon start real flying lessons in one of them. From that time onwards, I have always taken my flight simulation very serious and tried to make the experience as realistic as possible. I bought the book "Microsoft Flight Simulator X for Pilots - Real World Training" by Jeff van West and Kevin Lane-Cummings and have worked through the book, following their flying sequences. This was a great way for me to experience flying as real as it could get without piloting a real plane. Later I wanted to know more about what real pilot training was all about and I discovered the flight-training syllabus of the Civil Aviation Safety Authority of Australia. It is at this time that my parents realized that I had a keen interest in becoming a pilot and they decided to send me for flying lessons. I had to start to earn money to help pay for my flying lessons and started to work on weekends as

a kitchen hand in a restaurant. I have since moved up in life and am now working in a supermarket during school holidays, where I serve customers and pack shelves. That is enough of my story. The point I am trying to make is that I take my PC flight simulation very serious and would like to share my experience with other young aspiring pilots that may not have the privilege of being able to do real flying. I also take my flying lessons very serious and I would like to share some of the information I have gathered during my research to become a Commercial Airline Pilot. This is my introductory article and I will follow it up with a series of articles with useful information for the serious simulator pilot and the aspiring real pilot.

This is me, just after my first solo flight in the Cessna 172. My career goal is to be the youngest pilot-in-command of an Airbus A380. As a real life pilot I expect more from my flight simulator. For a near real life experience, FlightProSim is the only simulator I will recommend. Innes Uys (Teenager Student Pilot) Visit me at http://tinyurl.com/RealestFlightSimulator
