Section Location of the tower in front of new funicular station reflect an idea of a gate. IONA tower
The tower as symbol of the fortified house, place of isolation during periods of unrest. Solitary edifice turned towards itself, irregularly pierced by openings only where in need not betraying the life behind the mass of stone. The tower as symbol of the most compact form of residence. Which speaks clearly and relevant about the primary needs of habitation. IONA is a fisherman, as we all are. He wants to catch big fish. He lives alone in his tortuous turret. In order to entice helplessness, but also to simulate professional success, Iona has built himself an aquarium. He keeps the fish once caught right across his cabinet. This little room of his is placed between land and the river. Between certitude and the adventure he never dares to embark. Towards the flowing water he only ventures to open a window.
