Erasmus Study Aboard I studied under Professor Christiane Sauer at WeiĂ&#x;ensee School of Art in Berlin who trained and practised as an architect. This was an interesting and eyeopening insight into how Textiles can be used in all sort of specialisms.

When / Where London Fashion Week 2015 Design collections for Spring/Summer 2016 Bora Aksu J Moon

Debenhams Head Office 10 Brock St, London Womenswear Design Department Work experience commenced - 13/07/2015

Skills / Responsibilities • Working within tight time constraints to meet deadlines. • Assisted on projects for designers such as Julien Macdonald, Betty Jackson & Jasper Conran. • Working closely with the knitwear department to complete trend forecasting presentations. • Pattern cutting in the studio to help assist in making the first samples for new designs. • Using Photoshop to create print designs with colour waves to suit.

The Brief The brief was to re-invent a fundamental design element in a collaborative group of three. This entailed creating fabrics to be incorporated/transformed into garments for a fashion showcase to the public.

Won second prize judged by international Textile professors

Spots & dots

My Focus I investigated spots & dots, finding inspiration mostly from Braille I focused on the sense of touch, and how fashion can be made into a multi-sensory experience. This led to me experimenting and sampling textile surfaces that had a responsive surface.

03

Common ground

The Brief The brief was to be inspired by shared spaces / common grounds. In which we had to create samples for an interior or exterior space and digitally visualise our final samples back in to a common space using Photoshop.

My Focus I chose to investigate places where subcultures used to congregate in London, which led me to focus on Notting Hill because of the race riots that went on in 1981. I was interested in the idea of two peoples common grounds being invaded and also the contrast in how Notting Hill has changed over the years to a very wealthy area. Teddy Boys used Notting Hill as their main territory for their violent attacks however after World War Two Notting Hill was also seen as the Caribbean migrants ‘common ground’.

03

Common ground

Development My chosen material for this project was cement as I wanted to communicate the contrasts of the wealthy and gritty areas of Notting Hill. I used non traditional methods of construction ranging from embedding, spray painting and dyeing the cement in order to create a collection of samples.

04

Shadowplay

The Brief Spatial experiments with different material properties focusing on making solid surfaces flexible and visa versa. The brief revolved around digital drawings and learning the software Rhino.

My Focus I investigated optical illusions, finding inspiration from shadows. Exploration of shadows and researching all the different methods of manipulating them became the main focus for the duration of this project. My concept was to play with perceptions using shadow and colour.

Girls Grown up

The Brief

To be inspired by popular culture and everyday life that surrounds you today. Culminating in designing a collection of six fabrics suitable for a fashion context for Spring/Summer 2017, considering market contexts and the professional international field of textile design! These designs were exhibited at Première Vision Paris!

Girls Grown up

My Focus My personal title for this project was ‘Girls Grown Up’ as my concept was to challenge and explore the worrying early commodification of young girls and how this can have a ever lasting effect on them, pushing them to grow up to soon.
