beginning. The bank for women and run by women made its members partners-in-profit through timely distribution of the dividend earned. It is this thought that kept the bank on the path of progress. The second branch of the bank is at Dabra in Gwalior district and it has a total of 26 employees, all women. Relentless efforts were made to achieve zero NPA level. The founders keep a close eye on each and every loan, meeting every woman personally who is seeking a loan. All the guarantors are warned that they will have to fulfill the obligation of taking the guarantee of every rupee of the loan. Before giving the loan, the bank personnel visit each beneficiary’s home or work place, note down all the details, and inquire with the people in the neighborhood about the nature of the loan seeker. After satisfaction, the loan is disbursed as per the rules of RBI and in accordance with the decision of the committee. Ms Alka says, “I myself maintain a register, in which the details of the

Since the inception of the bank in the year 1997, Ms. Alka Srivastava, founder and chairperson of the bank, had a definite vision to take the bank to the new heights just by following her principles. The lower- and middleclass women, whose money was deposited in this bank, took out their hard-earned money from all the possible corners of their sari pallu, rice box, kitchen corner and cupboard drawers in order to hand-over to the bank. The pain and hard work of those women could be seen in their eyes. Ms Alka set up the bank with the help of these very deposits with a valid license from Reserve Bank of India (RBI). In its journey of 25 years this bank has been profitable since the

borrower are kept for the entire month. Those whose three installments are pending, a separate list is prepared and given to the loan officer for recovery. She recalls, “Once a woman beneficiary fell sick with TB and her installments stopped coming. She had three daughters and some anti-social elements used to intimidate our bank employees. In such a situation, I myself went to her house, took her along to the municipal office in a car. There she got her subsidy cheque and thus we saved the bank.” Sometimes there are cases of subsidy of some women, sent to the bank by the Municipal Corporation or the Industries Department, which are also given loans after thorough investigation. If the subsidy is not received on time, then instead of troubling the beneficiary, the bank contacts the department and helps the beneficiary. The NPA of the bank has been zero due to identifying the right persons, checking all their documents, and giving loans only for genuine work. Ms Alka, a graduate from the Lucknow University, has been honoured with many awards for her sincere social service. She believes that when the bank is in profit, it grows well, money keeps on accumulating, with zero NPA, only then the bank will be able to help needy women who are entitled for the loan. A befitting all-women bank has successfully made its record with India and Asia Books of Records.

A flexible teenager with the longest mermaid pose M s S. Priyadarshini, a 20-years-old student of Meenakshi Academy of Higher Education & Research (MAHER), Chennai, has featured in the India Book of Records for maintaining the Mermaid Yoga Pose continuously for 1 hour 15 minutes. The Sanskrit name of the Mermaid Yoga Pose is Eka Pada Raja Kapot Asana, where ‘Eka’ means ‘One’, ‘Pada’ means ‘Foot or Leg’, ‘Raja’ means ‘King’, ‘Kapota’ means ‘Pigeon’, and ‘Asana’ means ‘Posture or Pose’. The yoga event was organized by MAHER at the auditorium of Meenakshi Ammal Dental College & Hospital, Maduravoyal, Chennai on March 8, 2022 on the occasion of International Women’s Day. As suggested by the masters, the biggest mistake people make is attempting to get into the mermaid posture when their hips aren’t open enough. If your legs aren’t warmed up, then the best idea is to do the pigeon pose until the body is ready for the main feat. It is not recommended trying and bending the back leg because it puts extra strain on the flexor. If the body is not warmed up enough, the person is required to sit on the knees a little differently, which may lead to a knee injury due to the highly-strained compression. Priyadarshini, who is currently pursuing BCom (General) thirdyear course, said that the encouragement given by her College Principal Dr V. Shanthi; Department Head, S. Malarvizhi; and the MAHER University Administration – all these became the reason for her achievement. Yoga Rathna S. Priyadharshini has practiced the yoga form for three years, learning it from her teacher, Yoga Rathna, Saraswathi Balakrishnan. The Eka Pada
Raja Kapot Asana posture resembles the grace and fluidity of the mystical sea creature it’s named after. India Book of Records event was performed under the prestious supervision of our adjudicators along with the delegates from MAHER University such as the Chancellor, Thiru. A.N. Radhakrishnan, Rector Mrs. Jayanthi Radhakrishnan, ViceChancellor, Prof Dr. RS Neelankandan, Registrar Prof. Dr. C. Krithika, MAHER-MADC, Principal Dr. Velmuguran, Vice-Principal Dr. Lambodharan, MAHER-FYST Principal Dr. Elangovan, and Principal MAHER-FHS Dr.V. Shanthi. The others who cheered the recordbreaker at the event included HoD Commerce Mrs S. Malarvizhi and Mrs R. Anuradha along with faculty members and students. The Mermaid Yoga Pose benefits many body parts including Lower Back, Middle Back, Feet, Ankles, Hamstrings, Chest, Hips, Pelvic and Quadriceps. This yoga position has certain health benefits, like it makes the pelvic floor and core stronger, gives freedom from backache and sciatica, makes lower back flexible and stronger, besides improving balance and strengthening the shoulders and chest. It is good for the digestive and reproductive system. Yoga is considered good for general wellbeing also. Priyadharshini started the Mermaid pose at 11.40 am and continued in this position till 12.55 pm (1 hour 15 minutes) without any break. She was very steady at the pose and enthusiastically made the record. The yoga event was video recorded for counting the time in the presence of local media representatives. The yoga attempt was witnessed by Vivek R Nair, Senior Adjudicator of India Book of Records. The programme was hosted by Mrs Rubi Sikdar, Assistant Professor, Department of English. Mathematical ways to draw the

W
hile conceiving the idea of how to generate maximum interest in Mathematics, B. Vijay, Maths Faculty in GTA Vidhya Mandir, Neelankarai, Chennai had perhaps not even considered that he is going to be a part of the prestigious India Book of Records. He encouraged his students to set a record in a mathematical way and was successful in setting a record of ‘Maximum Students Drawing Indian National Flag together on a Virtual Platform’. A total of 334 students participated in the record making activity on March 5, 2022. The students created the Indian national flag on paper using mathematical instruments in an average span of one minute and 10 seconds on the Zoom platform. Dr. J. Sundar, Principal, GTA Vidhya Mandir, Neelankarai, Chennai said, “We chose the national flag as a theme of

this record-breaking activity, because India is the epicenter of linguistic, cultural and geographical diversity. Hot sandy deserts and great blue oceans, dewy mountain valleys and long breezy coastlines, all of them harmoniously find their place in our tricolour flag. This is what this entire event was centred around. Students of grade 6 to 10 united in their endeavour to draw the national flag using mathematical instruments within a given time frame.” Organiser of the event, B. Vijay said, “Being a Maths Faculty, I would like to draw everyone’s attention to the fact that Mathematics is a very interesting subject. If we plunge in deep enough, we can find that everything in our surroundings and beyond is centred around math. So
is this event. To be precise, our National Flag is in the ratio of 3:2, with the Ashok Chakra in the center with 24 spokes. While drawing the flag, we make 4 right angles, a line bisector and divide the total 360 degrees of the Chakra into 24 equal parts, each of them being at a 15 degrees angle. The length and breadth of the flag is 9 cm and 6 cm respectively and the diameter of the Dharma Chakra is 2 cm. All of this was constructed by the students with ease within a time frame of 70 seconds. Maths is an integral part of the world we live in, and this event seconded that notion. By setting this record, our aim is to help students see Math for what it truly is.” “Geometry has always been the artistic aspect of Maths. We have surrounded ourselves with compass, protractors
and set squares for the past few years. Meanwhile our flag encompasses within it all of India’s glory and pride. Constructing the face of our country with mathematical instruments this familiar was very inspiring,” opined Deepa Priyadharshini, a grade 9C student. In today’s world where artificial intelligence is fast replacing human intelligence, it is becoming increasingly important to foster an interdisciplinary approach to education. “Through this
program, GTA Vidhya Mandir integrated Art, creative thinking, patriotism and mathematics among the 334 students to successfully achieve this record. Such real-life social experiences inculcate soft skills such as team work, communication, time management and focus to prepare them for the competitive world. I had the privilege of witnessing the event. The correspondent of GT Group of Institutions Bharat Kanti Doshi, Principal Dr. J. Sundar, Vice Principal Mrs Sivakama Sundari, Maths Facilitator B. Vijay and all
the staff members along with students participated in the event. The effort put in by teachers in preparing students for the feat was apparent in its seamless execution”, expressed Dr. Anita Murali, Professor and Head, Department of Public Health Dentistry, Bharath Institute of Higher Education and Research. The event was watched over by Dr Saranya T Jaikumar, Educational Psychologist and Member of Tamil Nadu State Commission of Child Rights and Protection.

Couple travels 82 highways in 101 days
K
austav Ghosh and Laxmi Sorte, a couple from Mumbai, set on a 101-days-long pan-India road trip on December 1, 2021, finishing it on March 11, 2022. Their sole purpose was to interact with and create communities of local small businesses affected by Covid pandemic in all the states. They crossed 28 states and 5 Union Territories covering a total distance of more than 19,300 kms by passing through 82 national highways, which became a national record, acknowledged by the India Book of Records. On the way the couple met with more than 800 people physically in more than 46 cities across the country. They interacted with over 66 communities including Rotary clubs,

Rotaract clubs, small business associations, startup groups, trader associations etc. to spread their message of ‘I Support Your Business’. The Great Indian Travel was a road trip campaign intended to promote small businesses on the route who have been contending to scale up their projects especially after the pandemic and lockdowns. It was a 101-day-long campaign starting from Mumbai, Maharashtra and moving towards south while exploring the southwest and southeast then going towards northeast and then the north and the western part of the country.
Kaustav Ghosh, who is basically from Kolkata, West Bengal, said, “The main motto of the campaign was to promote the small businesses who have a mere presence on the social networking sites, but apart from promoting the small businesses we also looked forward to traversing the country. Indian Culture is certainly very diverse. Our culture is about 5,000 years old and it is the first and the greatest culture of the world. We as well wanted to travel, not for hunting, but for exploring, understanding people, empowering businesses, connecting with like-minded souls and to go out there and make an ever-lasting impact in the world.” “On our course of travel we wanted to explore the hidden souls of the areas, the regional food and authentic tastes. Due to advancement in technology, we are facing shortcomings in taking care and restoring our art forms, due to which the artists are opting for a different source of income for their livelihood. So, in our travels, we wanted to meet the artists and put a light on the art forms which have been a huge part of our culture,” said Laxmi Sorte, who is from Mumbai.
Kaustav and Laxmi, both are 1990 born and love traveling, wanted to complete this road trip in a very economical manner. Therefore, before moving out they did a lot of homework and planning. Actually, they started registering small businesses online in October 2020. They chose 101 businesses and promoted them on the social media platforms. Each day one business was highlighted while the rest of the 100 businesses were supporting it. In this way every business benefited. The couple strongly recommends a visit to lesser-known places in Chhattisgarh, north eastern states and Jammu & Kashmir, as these places are often neglected due to obvious reasons. The outcome of this memorable journey is also enviable, as the duo have a plan to showcase the ‘The Great Indian Travel’ documentary at various international film festivals, besides publishing a travel book with the same title.

Mesmerizing collection of Ganesha idols
L
ord Ganesha, the deity of knowledge and wisdom, is the source of inspiration for artists. The Lord graced India Book of Records recently with His collection record via record achiever, Pradip Madhusudan Nand from Akola, Maharshtra. Many artists have been pouring their souls into making idols of Lord Ganesha to find their creativity cornered into some places of worship or drawing rooms. However, Pradip has conceptualized and established a museum - Nand Udyan Ganpati Sangrahalaya at Chikhaldara, a popular hill station of Vidarbha region, where country’s first glass made Sky Walk is also being made. Pradip’s largest collection (2,544 Ganesha idols) made it successfully to the India Book of Records. Pradip Nand, who is into real estate business, used to make Ganesha idols with clay. It was his favourite pastime, which turned into passion and he started buying and collecting Ganesha idols from every place or countries he visited. His wife Deepali Nand also helped him in this pursuit. The couple nurtured a hobby and created a grand museum, which keeps buzzing with tourists. The idols of different shapes, from an oilseed to 5 feet in size, are displayed in showcases inside the museum and in the open ground also. Deepali helped to maintain and preserve these idols. It took around 30 years to make this huge collection. The collection has a variety of idols of Lord Ganesha made of glass, clay, stone, wood, metal, copper, brass, ashtadhatu, fibre,

pencil, chalk, matchstick, tablets, buttons, leaves and candles. The museum is spread over three acres of land. The museum has four magnificent halls. The record was announced at a special function held in the presence of Dr Sunita Dhote from the India Book of Records, Sadhuram Patil, the sarpanch of Motha, Sabulal Dahikar, Chikhaldara Municipal Council Vice Chief Ishmail Sheikh Haidar, Fattur Yewale, Dyaneshwari Pal, Ravi Kale, Shilpa Pal, and Nandkumar Khadke. Pradip says that an entry fee of Rs 50 per head supports the maintenance of the museum. The museum is not for profit and it shows his love for art and devotion. People love to see the different postures of Lord Ganesha, few of which are inspired by the modern lifestyle and use of technology. Children especially find it interesting to see Ganpati working on a laptop, playing sports like cricket, kabaddi and kho-kho, riding a bike, driving a car, reading, sleeping and dancing. Usually, it takes one and a half hours to see the whole collection. More than 7,000 tourists have visited the place in the past three months. Having quit his granite business that caused air pollution, Pradip is now in the real estate business that gives him time to pursue his passion. He bought Ganesha idols from China, Singapore, Bangkok, Bali, Indonesia, Nepal, Bhutan, Tibet, Chennai, Bhuvaneshwar, Jaipur, Delhi, Srinagar, Moradabad, Balasore, Udaipur, Kishangarh, Patur, Belgaum, Khajuraho, north east states and even from the Chor Bazar in Mumbai. Few idols were gifted to him by his friends or visitors. His future target is to collect and display at least 10,000 idols at the Nand Udyan Ganpati Sangrahalaya.
Brilliant recall skills of a kid V
P Varshitha Reddy is one of those kids who have a very sharp memory. In recognition of her ability to remember many things, India Book of Records (IBR) issued her a Certificate of Appreciation. Now she is 4 years 9 months old, whereas just four months ago she attempted a memory test and came out with flying colours. In a video performance she was able to identify 12 animals, 11 birds, 14 professions, 21 actions, 12 famous personalities, 16 vehicles, numbers from 1 to 27, 24 body parts, 35 general items, 11 words with opposite meanings, 15 languagesprinted on Indian currency, capitals of all states and union territories of India, months in a year, four seasons, 20 national symbols and 10 rhymes without any hesitation. Varshitha was born on August 16, 2017 at Chengalpattu, Tamil Nadu. She is an adorable daughter of her father C. Vijender Reddy and mother Mrs G. Priya Reddy. Her mother says that you tell anything to Varshita and she remembers it. She can recall things even after a year. She pronounces the shlokas very well and enjoys doing writing and drawing work. She is also a little mischievous and most of the time she is super active, which increases her mother’s household responsibilities. The little doll adjusts to every situation quickly and gets along happily with everyone. She always tries to get what she wants. By the way, she is a multi-tasker. Varshitha likes to make something or the other with colours on a paper. After making drawings she can narrate a related story, which she thinks on the spot, maybe because of her sharp
imagination power. For the last 6 months, she has been learning karate, in which she has got a yellow belt. Cycling and playing badminton with friends are her outdoor sport activities, which she enjoys the most. She likes to be in groups and plays a lot with water in the swimming pool and on the beach. Her father is in the business of packaging materials and owns a Polypack company. Even in his busy schedule, he finds time to play with his daughter and enjoys every joke she cracks. Mother Priya is a homemaker, who quit her regular job after giving birth to Varshitha, so that she can give her proper attention. Varshita loves to travel and has visited Delhi, Agra, Goa, Bangalore, Pondicherry, Tanjore, Vellore, Kumbakonam, Chennai, Marina and Mahabalipuram beaches etc so far. She likes to play with sand on the beach. Priya’s message to other parents is to never compare your child with other children. Every child definitely has her own talent. It is the responsibility of the parents to identify that hidden talent or special quality and encourage her area of interest. “Encourage the child even if she fails. By doing this their enthusiasm towards success increases even more,” added Priya. India Book of Records | May 2022

Toddler identifies tricky list of dinosaurs M ore than 200 million years have passed since dinosaurs became extinct from the earth, but even today these huge creatures remain a matter of curiosity and mystery. That is the reason why the magic of the Jurassic Park movie never ends, which has got several sequels so far. It is a matter of surprise that why kids are so fascinated with these giant reptiles; may be because of their huge size and unusual anatomy. Their unique shapes raise questions in the tender minds of kids. When they get to see a robotic model of dinosaur moving strangely their interest in the giant creature grows manifold. The child we are talking about here is a one-anda-half-year-old toddler - Vidhun VM, who was just one year, 6 months and 17 days old, when he identified 66 species of dinosaurs by looking at the pictures in just 5 minutes and 32 seconds. Thus, he set a record and his name got featured in the India Book of Records. Born on August 11, 2020, in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, during the lockdown time, Vidhun is interested in all kinds of animals, but has a big fascination for dinosaurs. He is growing up in a family of doctors as his father Dr Vinoth Natarajan, MD,

His father got the medical degree from PGIMER Chandigarh and mother from Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital, New Delhi. Dr Vinoth says that when Vidhun was nine months old, he started showing keen interest in the pictures of different animals. Whenever he saw a picture in a book or on the television, he expressed great excitement and joy. The child is fond of all kinds of animals, whether they are domestic or wild animals. He also likes dinosaurs probably because of their strange appearance and insists on seeing their pictures again and again. Keeping Vidhun’s interest in mind, parents set up a small library at the home for him, which has all sorts of picture books based on dinosaurs and other animals. Dr Vinoth feels that if all the picture books are combined, there may be at least a thousand photographs of animals and birds in Vidhun’s library. Seeing the child’s interest in animals and especially dinosaurs, a friend of

Dr Vinoth talked about the India Book of Records and suggested him to highlight Vidhun’s talent. Then his activity video was made and sent to IBR, which got selected. He says that the development of an infant’s brain happens mostly in the first two years after birth. In such a situation, special attention needs to be paid to the upbringing of the child. Since the couple is a medical professional and they have to spend most of their time in the hospitals, Vidhun’s grandmother takes care of him at home. The father says that he narrates stories of superheroes to Vidhun.
A child who prefers books to toys
W
e all know all toddlers’ fascination with toys but a unique toddler who is more enchanted with books is a rarity, appearing in the India Book of Records. Deeshank Mallikarjuna S, born on June 25, 2020 in Bhadravati Taluk, District Shivamoga, Karnataka, loves to listen and babble out stories. Seeing Deeshank’s talent, India Book of Records has issued him a certificate of appreciation. During the video activity on the basis of which this child was selected, Deeshank showed his ability to remember and understand many things. He answered 5 general knowledge questions, as well as identified many things such as 14 shapes, 11 colours, 39 animals, 16 vehicles, flags of 20 countries, 11 human body parts and 18 vegetables. Apart from this, Deeshank recited few things such as 7 days of the week in English and Kannada, 12 months of the year, counting up to 20 in English, numbers up to 10 in Kannada and 4 rhymes at the age of 1 year and 7 months. Deeshank’s mother, Ms Deepti, is the administrator of a play way school, where 60 kids are enrolled. Deeshank plays with these kids during the day time. She has so far kept Deeshank away from gadgets like mobile phones or laptops. This child is very fond of books. He reads a lot and looks at pictures. Ms Deepti said that Deeshank started speaking when he was 8-months-old. However, that time every vegetable was a tomato for him. Slowly he started recognizing all the family members. He began to identify animals, birds, and began to recite prayers. Even at such a young age, he used to identify 20 animals. His father, Shankar HS is in the business of timber and real estate. Apart from Uncle Girish and Aunt Shruti, there are grandparents at home, so Deeshank is never alone. During the lockdown period, most of the children had to be alone due to which their social skills could not be developed. Doctors now recommend taking such children out for
social engagement. There was no such problem with Deeshank. In the playway he spends time with his mother and many children, while at home he gets the benefit of being in a joint family. Deepti wants her child to be a good human being and enjoy life to the fullest. Though most things remained closed during the Covid period, Deeshank along with his parents visited a resort and several places of interest in Andhra Pradesh. Deepti says that many parents do not take children seriously and consider them as too small, while the child is a miniature form of an adult person. Children pay attention to every activity happening around them and learn something or the other from them. Therefore, one should not behave inappropriately in front of children. Children’s brain development occurs in the first six years. An infant begins learning from the womb itself, the story of Abhimanyu is a testament to the fact that he understood the composition of the Chakravyuha even before he was born.

Fastest Sand to Snow drive by a group
E
VO India set a new record for fastest driving from sunny deserts of Thar to snowy mountains of the great Himalayas by covering 1300 kms in 24 hours in a Mahindra Jeep Model - Thar. The daredevil team moved from a 40 degrees hot environment of Jaisalmer to minus 4 degrees icy cold region of Jispa in Himachal Pradesh within 24 hours. EVO India is a motor driving magazine published from Pune, Maharashtra, whose editor Sirish Chandran set this record while driving a car himself. Two Mahindra Thar vehicles were used in the expedition. In one vehicle Sirish was accompanied by motorsport Arjuna Awardee and India’s best rally driver Gaurav Gill, while the other Thar had a team of two professional drivers - king of the mountains and five-time Desert Storm winner Suresh Rana and king of the desert Madan Choudhary. For the photography, Rohit G Mane, chief photographer, and Abhishek Benny, senior

photographer, both from EVO India, were also sitting in these vehicles with their cameras and drones to capture the best shots. Both the Thar vehicles involved in the expedition were powered by 150bhp petrol engines with automatic transmission. Sirish said that as per Google Maps, the distance from Jaisalmer to Manali was less than 24 hours, while the reality was different. His team was on the sand dunes, 80 km west of Jaisalmer city in Rajasthan and had to cross the Atal Tunnel in Himachal Pradesh and move north where snow could be found. Due to the summer season, there was no snow to be found in the Manali area, for that one had to go towards Lahaul Spiti. A considerable distance in between had to be covered on the highway, where driving at constant high speed is a mentally exhausting task. Both the vehicles crossed Hisar in Haryana and halted for dinner at Kaithal. They began at 10 am and covered 750 km at an average speed of 70 kmph. After Kaithal they reached Kiratpur Sahib via Chandigarh, Rupnagar and Bharatnagar. Tractor trolleys run a lot in Punjab, but nothing like that was found on the roads in the night. To reach Manali, they had yet to cover 240 km. The construction of a new road on the mountainous route was in full swing, forcing the traffic to crawl at an average speed of 20 kmph through several diversions, muddy passages and dust. They rested for a while in a hotel located at the mall in Manali, as there was no point in
going to a snowy area in the dark. In the final leg of the journey, the vehicles reached the Lahaul-Spiti Valley via the Atal Tunnel. Leaving behind a lone petrol pump at Tandi, the district headquarters at Keylong, the mountain goats clambering up the cliffs, they finally reached the banks of the snow-draped river banks at Jispa. Mohit Vats, the India Book of Records adjudicator handed over the official record medal and certificate. It was a new record for covering 1299.4 km distance in 22 hours, to get from sand dunes to snowy mountains. “It’s a new endurance record but one with a difference, one that highlights the immense diversity of our country, where you catch the sunrise over the dunes and, a mere 24 hours later, the rising sun over the snow-capped Himalayas. One that treats you with spectacular roads, and then grinds you down with unimaginably
atrocious ones. A country that, in the span of 24 hours, takes you from searing 40 degrees to a bone-chilling minus four. Turns out 24 hours is plenty of time to explore our country, especially when you’re behind the wheel of a Thar,” adds Sirish Chandran.

A
meya Pratheesh, a little girl from Alappuzha city in Kerala has created a record by answering the maximum questions on the United Arab Emirates (UAE), for which she has got featured in the India Book of Records. Ameya has made this record of a General Knowledge at the age of 5 years, 2 months and 14 days. The little girl achieved this milestone by answering 39 questions within a minute. All the questions were related to the United Arab Emirates and Dubai. Ameya lives in Dubai these days with her parents and her two-year-old brother. Her father, Mr. Pratheesh Prasannan Puthenparampil, is a Technical Engineer and has been serving at the ALEC Construction Company in UAE for the past 12 years. Ameya is a KG 2 student at Sharjah Indian School, Dubai. She enjoys dancing, playing piano and singing songs. She has no match in storytelling. Recently, she demonstrated one more ability. She stunned everyone by telling short stories starting with the letters A to Z within 20 minutes. She got inspiration from her teacher Ms. Seena Anil. To teach the children the alphabet, Ms. Seena narrated a story beginning with each letter. Ameya learned some stories in class and some by listening to YouTube videos. Ameya’s mother, Ms. Archana Pratheesh has studied up to M. Com and currently she stays at home to take care of her two children. All her time is spent in taking care of the kids and the household. Pratheesh said that his daughter likes to listen to stories on YouTube. She memorizes stories by watching videos in English and Malayalam language. By the way, she is more interested in stories of historical importance. For the past one year she has been learning to play the piano. In outdoor activities, she enjoys skating very much. If she stays at home, she plays with the help of building blocks by making various shapes. She is attracted by the police uniform, so whenever she sees a police officer in

the videos or TV, she says that she will become a police officer when she grows up. The Pratheesh couple believes that all the children born in the world come with one or more qualities. Every child is unique. Now it depends on the teachers and parents to what extent they find out the talent of the children who naturally are keen and learn new things very fast. In such a situation, parents should be very attentive. They should create an environment in the house according to the interest of the child and allow the child to grow naturally. Parents should never impose their likes and dislikes on their children, the parents added.

‘Riitesh Mudraa’ for Cerebral Palsy D
r. Ritesh Sinha, a resident of Sector 13, Karnal, Haryana, who is suffering from Cerebral Palsy (CP), has changed the very meaning of this specific condition by his hard work and determination, even though he has least control over his body movement and involuntary actions. For him CP means a ‘Capable Person’. This is because he has done such remarkable work which can be beneficial for the well-being of differently-abled persons. Dr. Riitesh has worked diligently to develop a hand posture to improve the health of the differently-abled. Stiffness in the hands and feet of persons suffering from Cerebral Palsy can be reduced by the practice of this Hasta Mudra. He calls it ‘Ritesh Mudraa’, for which he has been awarded a letter of appreciation from the India Book of Records. Dr. Riitesh is 47-years-old and lives in Karnal with his mother Dr. Smt. Pushpalata R Sinha and his father Dr. RN Sinha, retired as Principal Scientist from NDRI Karnal. He did a course in Naturopathy from Nature Cure Institute, Nashik, Maharashtra in 2016 to practice as a Naturopathic doctor. He has had a problem of Cerebral Palsy since childhood. Prior to the development of ‘Riitesh Mudraa’, during the lockdown he created an Android app called Alternative Therapy for Cerebral Palsy. It was declared a National Record, for which earlier also, his name got registered in India Book of Records in 2020. Before all this, he had established his identity as a prolific writer, innovator, blogger, researcher and doctor by overcoming this physical difficulty. The hand mudra which he calls ‘Riitesh Mudraa’ is a combination of ancient yoga mudra and acupressure. The tip of the thumb and middle finger of the hand are pressed against each other for a few minutes and with regular practice, a person with Cerebral Palsy can get relief. In his book ‘Understanding of Cerebral Palsy’, he has mentioned different hand mudras like Vayu Mudra, Vayana Mudra, Gyan Mudra and Ardi Mudra.

‘Riitesh Mudraa’ can be practiced during meditation, which gives a feeling of peace to the mind. He has been suffering from Cerebral Palsy since childhood, but his parents came to know about this condition only when Riitesh was 11 months old. His brain had no control over his organs. He could neither walk nor move his hands and other body parts on his own. He also had difficulty speaking. Due to this disability, he was refused admission by the school in his childhood. Later he got admission in a school with great difficulty. Riitesh’s mother says that her son studied diligently and fought the medical condition. First he did B.Sc from Dyal Singh College, Karnal, then PG diploma courses in Computer Application and Information Technology, and finally took a diploma in Naturopathy. Currently he works as a Computer Operator in Karnal Court. He has received the Cavinkare Ability Mastery Award for his achievements. Riitesh said that to help the differently-abled, he runs a Whatsapp group called Capable Person on WhatsApp, where he guides people. Hundreds of cerebral palsy sufferers from across the country are associated with him in this group. Today he remains a source of inspiration for children suffering from Cerebral Palsy.
Kid shines with excellent
observation skills
I
ndia Book of Records recognizes the talent of Niyansh, a little child from Bengaluru, Karnataka whose memory is very sharp, apart from having an extraordinary skill of good observation, at the tender age of 1 year and 8 months. Niyansh was able to recognize many things including 20 fruits, 13 flowers, 19 action words, 19 vegetables, 24 professions, 13 shapes, 22 vehicles, 25 human body parts, 21 animals, 12 colours, 6 electronic items, 17 birds, 10 clothes, 6 medical items and flags of 24 countries. Niyansh was born on July 2, 2020 in Bengaluru during the lockdown period. Niyansh’s mother, Ms. Anjali P, is an Associate Test Lead at Ernst & Young, a finance and quality consulting firm. His father Mr Shashi Kiran L. is the Senior Technical Manager at the Trident MEA Technologies LLC company. Both the parents are working, so Anjali’s younger sister Jayshree P. occasionally visits the house to help with the care of the child. Thus, Niyansh is hardly alone at home. Ms Anjali says that Niyansh was 9 months old, when he started recognizing all the things around him. His memory is superb. He was 1 year and 3 months old when he kept his finger on everything and started asking - what is this, what is that? The picture books helped a lot in this process. He was beginning to identify everything around. We wanted to keep him busy.
Since everything was closed at the time of the Covid pandemic, we could not take him out. We brought him flash cards with 10 different sections. Every section has different types of pictures. Niyansh looks at the pictures closely then asks questions. From a very tender age he started paying attention to birds, vehicles, flags, animals etc. He quickly absorbs all the information. Everyone in the family recognized Niyansh’s innate talent. He learned many things about the world via flash card images. He even began to understand many things beyond his own age group. Most of the time, Niyansh remains calm and is a very obedient child, says his mother. Ms Anjali further said, “the first 24 months are crucial for the overall development of a child. After that the priorities start changing, as school, teachers and peer groups start influencing the child. You must have seen that today’s babies are smarter than ever, probably because of the influence of technology and the parental genes. I believe that parents should often talk to their kids whether they understand anything or not. Kids are fast learners; they listen to you and start copying the words. Talking to the kids helps them start speaking and understanding different words. Small children and pets are alike in understanding your gestures.”

said Ms Lini M Thomas, Assistant Engineering Manager, Larsen & Toubro. During an event organized on the occasion of World Water Day in Indore district of Madhya Pradesh, Chandrashekaran Pillai, Chief Accountant of L&T informed that World Water Day is organized every year on March 22, under which importance of water and its conservation is emphasized. Mass awareness is also created around the subject. There is a need to make efforts at every level to save water. It is the responsibility of every person in the country to raise awareness about water, which is one of the most important things for life. Mukesh Malviya of Government Advanced Secondary School, Ambamoliya in Madhya Pradesh, organized an essay, painting and speech competition in the school under the L&T campaign, in which children from class I to VIII participated with enthusiasm. Students who performed well in the activities were rewarded, after which a water procession was taken out in the town to underline the importance of water and to spread the
message of water conservation. A total of 85 school students along with L&T officials including Chandrashekaran Pillai, Abhinav Kotia, Mr Swami, project staff Ashok Kumar, Sohan Malviya, Omkar, Kashinath, Soumyajit Sen, Yogeshwaran, Ramesh Murugan, Savita and others participated in the program. Different programs were organized on World Water Day at Amritnagar High School and Secondary School Rola in Hazaribagh district of Jharkhand, where L&T officials informed the students that L&T Construction Company has been working on the government’s water plan in Hazaribagh city. On this occasion the children were told about how we can save ground water and what is the importance of water in human life. The campaign also highlighted the fact that globally, water scarcity is emerging as an extremely serious problem and L&T has taken over the lead to drive home the message that every drop of water was vital for human survival. Few of the other educational institutions involved in the L&T water conservation awareness activity included – Composite School, Amawar, District Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh; Duddhi Public School, Sonbhadra, Uttar Pradesh; Kanya Madhyamik Vidyalaya, Sondwa, District Alirajpur, Madhya Pradesh; and Government High School, Gottigere, Bangalore, Karnataka. Fastest K2K unsupported solo cycling expedition S
rinivasan B., a 46-years-old cycling enthusiast of Chennai, Tamil Nadu, completed his ‘Solo Unsupported Cycling Expedition from Kashmir to Kanyakumari (K2K)’ in 14 days, covering a total distance of 3677 km. He established this record by riding the bicycle at an average speed of 260 km per day, passed through 13 states, crossing around 1,000 flyovers on the way. His message to the masses was: Commute on bicycle and avoid polythene bags to reduce pollution. Srinivasan, a mechanical engineer working with a PSU under Petroleum Ministry, started the expedition on February 12, 2022, from Ghanta Ghar, Srinagar at 6.30 am, when the temperature was minus 40C , ending the journey at Kanyakumari on February 26, 2022 at 9.30 am, where the temperature was 360C. K2K is a dream ride for all cyclists. Many have done this in groups or as solo with a support team i.e., with a recovery vehicle, spare cycle, mechanic, physiologist, etc, but very few have done this as an unsupported solo ride. For him, it was a challenging and tough ride with 15 to 16 hrs of cycling with 4 to 5 hours of sleep per day. Food and stay were arranged spontaneously enroute. He carried with him bare minimum clothes, one spare tyre, three spare tubes, a tool kit, two cycle pumps, a chain link and one chain fixer. How did he plan this solo expedition and what were the challenges? His reply was, “I planned this journey in May 2021 and practiced for seven months. I rode almost 110 km per day while attending office as usual and did workouts at the gym.
22
India Book of Records | May 2022
Training, diet, arrangements, everything was done on my own, without any trainer. In January this year, I cycled 3125 km as part of the training. During the ride, I passed through scary forest areas in Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh; high day temperature, and damn chill (minus 40C, in Kashmir) freezing my fingers and feet.” At Srinagar, he got permission from the Army and tunnel authority to ride through a 9 km long
tunnel, which is generally not allowed to cyclists. He talked to many people enroute and explained to them about the issue of environmental pollution. Being a Rotarian, he visited the Rotary Club offices at Srinagar and Kanyakumari and exchanged the club flags. How was his experience as a solo rider? Upon this question, Srinivasan sentimentally shared that many times he literally cried being solo and the hardships he faced on the way, but not for a moment he thought about quitting. The thought that he was strong and careful kept him happy. He felt extreme pain in the night, but woke up fresh at 5 o’clock every morning. To develop strength, he had done 100s of pushups and squats everyday before the expedition. To evaluate his capacity for K2K, he also did a Chennai to Kanyakumari (750 kms) solo cycling in August, 2021. That ride boosted his confidence.
Srinivasan said, “My initial plan was to finish the K2K expedition in 18 days with 200 km per day speed, but completed it in 14 days with 260 kms average distance covered per day. The best part was when my wife and kids joined me in the last 7 kms taking photographs, videos and giving me company. Saturday is my lucky day; therefore, I started the ride on Saturday and fortunately completed it on Saturday. My skin tanned badly and I lost a lot of weight,” he shared.

Intellectual and Developmental
Disabilities training
S
pecial Olympics Bharat (SOB) Delhi set a record for the maximum number of medical and sports professionals participating in a virtual training programme for Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD). The training programme occurred on the Zoom platform from March 21 to March 25, 2022. Special Olympics Bharat had set a target to train at least 10,000 professionals, however 8,772 professionals confirmed their online participation. This exercise made a national record and the organization got a listing in the India Book of Records (IBR). Intellectual and developmental disability is characterized by significantly below-average intellectual functioning (generally regarded as IQ below 70) combined with impairment in carrying out varying aspects of daily life and adapting to the normal social environment. A ‘closely related developmental disability’ means having functional limitations in both general learning (such as IQ) and in adaptive skills (such as in recreation, work, independent living, self-direction, or self-care). This gave reason enough to the organisers, Special Olympics Bharat (SOB), to

create a one-of-its-kind online training – that also set a national record. The virtual training that set a record with India Book of Records was conducted by various doctors and experts. Dr Santosh Ravindran conducted an online training programme on Special Smiles. On the other hand, Dr Manisha Vyas explained the topic of Health Promotion to the medical and sports professionals. Dr Charley Daniel took to the Zoom platform for training purposes with his topic for the training being Fitness Corner. Similarly, Dr Namineni took to the online training to explain the topic of Special Smiles. The Amrit Mahotsav Flow training was common for all. Special Olympics Bharat (SOB), a National Sports Federation registered under the Indian Trust Act 1882 in 2001, is accredited by Special Olympics International (SOI) to conduct Special Olympics Programs in India. Air Marshal Denzil Keelor is the founder of the organisation. It is recognized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India as a National Sports Federation in the priority category, for development
of Sports for Persons with Intellectual Disabilities and is a designated nodal agency for all disabilities on account of its national presence and experience, especially in rural areas which account for nearly 75 percent of the disabled population in India. As per SOI General Rules, a person is considered to have an intellectual disability for purposes of determining his or her eligibility to participate in Special Olympics if that person satisfies any one of the following requirements:
1.
The person has been identified by an agency or professional as having an intellectual disability as determined by their localities; or 2. The person has a cognitive delay, as determined by standardized measures such as intelligent quotient or ‘IQ’ testing or other measures which are generally accepted within the professional community in that Accredited Program’s nation as being a reliable measurement of the existence of a cognitive delay; or 3. The person has a closely related developmental disability.

Mahendra Singh Verma from Mathura, Uttar Pradesh, a septuagenarian, has proved it true. At the age of 70 years, 7 months and 26 days, he made a national record of continuously looking at the Sun for one hour and 26 minutes without blinking
Unique record for longest sun-gazing without blinking
I
t is not easy to look at the sun even for a moment. In such a situation, what would you say if a person claims to be gazing at the Sun with his naked eyes and without blinking for a long time? Also, after doing this, if that person’s eyesight remains unfazed, then definitely it would be a great surprise. Mahendra Singh Verma from Mathura, Uttar Pradesh, a septuagenarian, has proved it true. At the age of 70 years, 7 months and 26 days, he made a national record of continuously looking at the Sun for one hour and 26 minutes without blinking. He is the first Indian
26

to do so and rightfully got entitled for creating a record in the India Book of Records. He performed this unbelievable activity on March 27, 2022, when the day temperature was at 39 degrees. During this record-breaking demonstration of looking at the Sun with naked eyes, Mathura-based ophthalmologist Dr. Pratibha Bansal and General Physician Dr. Manish Bansal were present at the venue. Both the doctors thoroughly examined Mr. Verma’s eyes before and immediately after the activity. No difference was found in his eyesight or general health even
after staring at the bright Sun continuously. Three cameras were also placed there to closely monitor his eyelids. Mr. Verma is a retired government official. His last posting was as the Deputy Sales Tax Commissioner. He was born on August 1, 1951 in Aligarh. He took initiation from one of his gurus 25 years ago, who was an expert in Sun worship. To become an expert in Sun gazing without blinking, he started practicing with a lamp. He says that by looking at the lamp or the Sun, the eyesight improves and the person lives longer. At the same time, his face starts glowing. After years of worshiping the Sun, now he is addicted to it and does not get peace without looking at the Sun. “This is the toughest meditation practice,” he told the people present on the occasion. Mr Verma said that the retina of the eye is connected to an endocrine gland called the Pineal gland. This gland controls
the sleeping and waking time. For this reason, it is also called a biological clock. The gland secretes a hormone called melatonin. The Pineal gland draws blood a hundred times more than its own weight. It is through the activation of the Pineal gland that he gets the power to look at the sun continuously. Actually, this gland is activated by the sunlight. In ancient Indian texts it is called Agya Chakra. He spends most of the time in the sun gazing and worshipping. In his free time, he also treats some incurable diseases with herbal and ayurvedic methods. It is forbidden to promote his healing abilities in the cult he follows. That’s why if someone reaches out to him himself, he definitely helps and does not charge any fee. India Book of Records congratulates the record holder hearteously.

Multi-lingual theatrical marathon under a single director
I
ndia Book of Records promotes and encourages all kinds of persons to set a record or else, break it. Dr. Rammohan Holagundi, a veteran theater artist from Hyderabad, Telangana, set the record for organizing and directing the longest multilingual theatrical marathon for 24 hours. He himself directed all the 27 plays. His name has featured in the India Book of Records for this marvelous feat. He had a special motive behind organizing the Multi-lingual Theatrical Marathon on 27 March 2022, celebrated as World Theater Day, a date which coincides with the completion of 27 years of his theatrical institution, Nishumbita School of Drama. It took the tireless work of 82 members of Nishumbita School of Drama to set this record. Dr. Rammohan’s goal was to stage 27 plays within 24 hours, which his team completed in 23 hours and 20 minutes only. This is a huge achievement for Nishumbita School of Drama, the brain-child of Dr. Rammohan who has been active in theater for the last 33 years. He also teaches drama at the university, and
28
India Book of Records | May 2022
he has built an Auditorium with a seating capacity of 100 people at his home, where plays are staged. He was born on April 4, 1974 in Karnataka, but has been living in Hyderabad since childhood. He established the Nishumbita School of Drama in the year 1994 and has staged more than 375 plays till date. He considers theater to be a powerful medium of social change. About 174 floating members are associated with the organization. Theatre took the centre-stage in Telangana some five years back. People come to see but it is not customary to buy tickets. Therefore, the school is run by the income from the theatrical workshops. When asked how the idea for the marathon of plays came about, Dr. Rammohan said that he had started the tradition of conducting a week-long theatre festival every December since 2015. The plays based on the works of Indian writers have been included in this marathon. “After the pandemic was over, the idea of doing something different was in my mind,” saus
Dr. Holagundi. Apart from Telugu, national and international plays of all kinds were included in the marathon. There were also children’s plays. The duration of the plays remained 30 minutes to 70 minutes. The themes of the plays were kept current, such as the disadvantages of overeating, the effect of Corona, superstitions etc. Children’s plays also included Human Puppetry, in which children acted as puppets and gave their own voice overs. Even Rudyard Kipling’s Jungle Book was staged in the marathon. Overall, the challenges in organizing the event were no less. It was difficult to get permission from the UK-based writers
for English plays. However, the more difficult it was to get permission for the late Nirmal Verma’s play from his wife. The core team disbanded during the planning due to fear of Corona. Immediately a new team had to be formed. Some members had to play different roles in more than one play leading to over-exertion and exhaustion. The children’s feet were swollen. The biggest challenge came when it was found at 5.30 am that two members had dropped out, while the marathon was to start at 7 am. In a hurry, two children were prepared from the back stage. Fortunately, everything went well and a record was also made. The entire show was broadcast on Facebook Live.
