Cover Story story of Arvind Babu, who is from Chennai, Tamil Nadu. He is 26-years-old and runs his event management company, Audrey Entertainments. He has set a record for ‘performing the longest drumming marathon by an individual’. He performed drumming for 75 hours, 30 minutes and 30 seconds, starting at 12 noon, on March 30, 2022, and concluded at 10.20 pm on April 2, 2022, at Chennai Turf, based at Nolambur, Chennai. Arvind has been playing drums since his middle school days. Whenever his father took him to a roadshow, carnival or light music event, Arvind would always praise the drums. He was attracted to the drum-kit consisting of cowbells, bass drums and snare. Many times, he borrowed money from his mother to pay the fees of the drumming training centre. In high school, he was not permitted to participate in extra-curricular activities because of board exams. After that he was forced to join the engineering course, where he met some like-minded friends who were interested in music. Together they formed a band called the Filter Coffee Diaries, in which the drummer, guitarist and vocalist were three members. Their small musical group started looking for event firms that needed a band. They got a couple of shows but the little remuneration they received was spent on the rent of drumkit and transport. Due to this reason, Arvind felt that in order

to proceed in drumming, he would have to work somewhere first, so that he could earn some extra money. He got a job in a company called Omega Healthcare for 12,000 rupees a month, but soon he got bored. Then Covid arrived followed by a lockdown. When the first wave ended, he formed a community called Artist Factory to provide opportunities to like-minded struggling artists. There he met his girlfriend Arthi, who was also a partner in Artist Factory. However, this community did not last long. He again started doing shows in Bangalore and Chennai. Aarti helped him in difficult times. She runs an online academy, Break the Barriers, and is also a sponsor of the drumming marathon. She gifted Arvind an electronic drum kit. That’s when the idea of creating a record came to mind. He posted a promo video for the event on Instagram, which garnered 55,000 views in two days. This boosted his morale and the drumming marathon became a hit. Moreover, his family helped him a lot at the last moment and his soon-to-be-wed friend Arthi kept encouraging him all the time. He is grateful to his friends including Martin, Gabriel, Likitesh, Yuva, Arthi, Musa Bhai, Anas, Mani, Krishna, Naveen, Sripadha, Keerthi Kanna etc.for their support. The event was organized by Sacred Space Entertainment.
Biggest collection of Tendulkar’s pictures A lbin has not been able to meet Sachin Tendulkar till date. Meeting Sachin is one of his big dreams. He says that if ever he gets a chance to meet Sachin, he will definitely ask him for any ODI jersey bearing his autograph. Fans of movie and sports stars have a history of turning their inspiration into some form of passion. Alongside, the fans do not hesitate to try numerous tricks to reach them by drawing pictures of their favorite stars or even worshiping them by building a temple, some copy their hairstyle while others travel far and wide to meet them. The fan we are talking about here is Albin Paulachan, a resident of Ernakulam, Kerala, who is 23-years-old and currently works as an accountant in a company called Scottia Education. He has set a record for collecting the greatest number of unique photographs of a popular cricketer. To be precise, he collected 1099 unique photographs of Sachin Tendulkar taken from various newspapers and magazines. Albin’s name has got a place in the India Book of Records. When we asked Albin how the idea of collecting Sachin Tendulkar’s pictures came to his mind, he said, “I started my own collection of Sachin Tendulkar’s pictures when I was studying in 5th standard at St. Augustine’s U P School. My passion for collecting his photographs continued till class XII at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Ernakulam. Later, I got admission in Sree Sankara College Kalady, from where I did my BCom. I started watching cricket because of Sachin. I had heard about him from fellow children. His presence on the ground attracted me to cricket, especially his batting.”
Because of his love for Sachin, he came to know about many other sports persons. Earlier, IPL matches were shown only on the Set Max Channel. Albin did not have a cable connection at his house, so he decided to go to his uncle’s house to watch IPL matches. For this he had to return late at midnight after the match was over. Mrs Abhikha, the librarian of Alvin’s school, also helped a lot in pursuing this hobby. She enriched the collection by providing various sports magazines. Albin’s classmates, juniors and seniors from both St. Augustine’s U P School and Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, gifted him lots of photographs. Some of Albin’s old friends still remember him and whenever they find a picture of Sachin, they present it to him automatically. His parents also contributed in making this collection bigger and used to bring Sachin’s pictures from different sources. Albin feels that his friends have a big hand in setting this record. Albin also enjoys playing the football. Earlier he was fond of playing cricket, but now does not get enough time. As a child, he used to tell the score of cricket matches to his grandfather, who was over 70-years-old and had difficulty in hearing and seeing. Albin used to watch the matches on TV and tell his grandfather the latest scores. This is where the love for cricket and Sachin Tendulkar was born. Apart from games, Albin loves drawing also. During school days, whenever he got free time, he drew pictures. He has not been able to meet Sachin Tendulkar till date. Meeting Sachin is one of his big dreams. He says that “If ever I get a chance to meet him, I will definitely ask him for any ODI jersey bearing his autograph”. India Book of Records | June 2022

a 47 kg tumour. This is the heaviest non-ovarian tumour successfully removed in India so far. The woman, a government employee and a resident of Devgadh Baria, had been carrying the tumour for 18 years and was bed-ridden for the past few months. Apart from the tumour, the team of eight senior doctors, including four surgeons, led by chief surgical
It was a high-risk surgery as the woman’s internal organs such as liver, heart, lungs, kidneys and uterus were displaced because of the pressure created by the tumour in the stomach wall. Getting a CT scan done was also difficult as the size of the tumour obstructed the way of the CT scan machine.
gastroenterologist Dr. Chirag J. Desai, also removed abdominal wall tissues and excess skin weighing around 7 kg during the surgery. Following the remarkable surgery, the body weight of the woman dropped to 49 kg. As she could not stand straight, her body weight before the surgery could not be measured. “It was a high-risk surgery as the woman’s internal organs such as liver, heart, lungs, kidneys and uterus were displaced because of the pressure created by the tumour in the stomach wall. Getting a CT scan done was also difficult as the size of the tumour obstructed the way of the CT scan machine,” Dr. Desai said. Dr. Desai added that the woman’s blood pressure was altered due to the squeezed blood vessels and she had to be given special treatment and medicines before the surgery to ensure that she does not collapse due to a drop in blood pressure post the removal of the tumour. Onco-surgeon Dr. Nitin Singhal, who was part of the team, said, “Fibroids are common in many women in the reproductive age group, but rarely does it grow this big.” The team also comprised Anesthetist Dr. Ankit Chauhan, General surgeon Dr. Swati Upadhyay and Critical Care specialist Dr. Jay Kothari,
who played a crucial role in this landmark surgery, which made its way to the India Book of Records. Notably, the problem for the woman started 18 years ago with unexplained weight gain in the abdominal region. Initially, she resorted to Ayurvedic treatment, but there was not much relief. In 2004, she underwent sonography which revealed a benign tumour and the family opted for surgery. However, when the doctor began the surgery, it was found that the tumour was attached to internal organs. Considering the risks involved, the doctors terminated the surgery and sent her back. Since then, the woman’s family consulted several doctors, but to no avail. In the meantime, the size of the tumour kept on growing and in the past two years, it almost doubled in size affecting her quality of life. Eventually, the family approached Apollo Hospitals, where the doctors and surgeons, after a thorough assessment, decided to carry out the surgery on January 27, 2022. Following post-operative care and rehabilitation, the woman was discharged from the hospital on February 14, 2022. She is fine now and leading a normal life.

Girl child swims 25 km in open sea
S
anjana idolises her coach Mr. Elangovan and aspires to win a medal for India at the Olympics. Her parents’ motive behind teaching her swimming was very simple. They wanted to inculcate discipline and increase her focus in studies. Swimming is considered a wholesome activity for good health and disease-free physique, in which along with lungs and heart, many other parts of the body are also exercised. Wellness experts say that swimming is a complete exercise in itself. But swimming in the salty water of the sea is different and more difficult than swimming in a swimming pool. The record for the maximum distance covered by a girl while swimming in the open sea has been set by P. Sanjana, a girl child from Chennai, Tamil Nadu. She covered a distance of 13.49 nautical miles (25 km) in 4 hrs, 48 mins and 02 seconds in open sea from VGP, Injambakkam, ECR, Chennai to Kannagi Statue at Marina Beach Chennai on April 24, 2022 at the age of 10 years 11 months 26 days. Thus, she got her name registered in the India Book of Records. Sanjana was born on April 29, 2011 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu and currently she is a student of class 5 at Sir Shivaswamy Kalalaya Senior Secondary School, Chennai. She started attending swimming classes at the young age of four at Golden Aquatic Club. Her parents’ motive behind teaching her swimming was very simple. They wanted to inculcate discipline and increase her focus in studies. After a few months of taking the classes, she evinced keen interest in swimming, and impressed her coach and other members at the club. She had joined swimming classes only for leisure but it turned out to be a serious venture.

Sanjana’s mother, Mrs K. Sandhya, an Advocate at the Madras High Court, Chennai, says that she wakes up everyday at 4.45 in the morning for her swimming classes. She always makes sure not to miss any of the practice sessions. In recent times, she has been training twice a day -- swimming practice in the morning and gym sessions in the evening. She trains six-days a week, with Monday being her rest day. She can perform different types of strokes in swimming, including freestyle, backstroke, butterfly and breaststroke. Her favourite being backstroke. She started to learn freestyle in the beginning and over the years mastered other strokes in the book. Sanjana has participated in various tournaments in Tamil Nadu and secured first position in the District Level Tournament conducted by the Sport Development Authority, Tamil Nadu, in the year 2019. Long distance swimming is her forte and it was one of the reasons behind taking part in the sea swimming expedition. Coach KG Elangovan identified that Sanjana was suitable for long distance swimming based on her physical condition and style of swimming. Apart from practicing in the swimming pool, she also regularly practiced swimming at Marina Beach. She rigorously practiced for seven months before attempting the record setting open sea swimming expedition. Her father Mr. S Perumal, who is serving in the Tamil Nadu Police, said that Sanjana idolizes her coach Mr. Elangovan, and aspires to win a medal for India at the Olympics. Earlier also, in September 2021, she achieved a 10 km sea swimming expedition at the age of 10 years from Besant Nagar to Kannagi Statue with a duration of 1 hr 50 mins 18 sec.
Underwater mathematics activity by a child H
ave you ever tried doing maths underwater? The answer is a surprising no. However, when Advit found fun in this activity, his parents arranged for trainers to practice rapid counting underwater. When Advit was one year old, he used to identify the numbers in a lift. When he was four years old, he used to add double digit numbers at a lightning speed without a pen or paper. Advit is eight years old now and has set a new record, which is different from others, as he used his swimming and maths skills simultaneously to get the accurate result. He has set a record for ‘performing the rapid addition of maximum single digit numbers while being underwater by a child’. He added a total of 85 single digit numbers flashing on the screen at the speed of 0.5 second being underwater. He took 43 seconds to give the correct answer. The boy demonstrated his skills at Turtle Puddle swimming centre in Piplod, Vesu, Surat, Gujarat on April 24, 2022 at the age of 7 years 11 months 20 days. His name has got place in the India Book of Records. Advit Prateek Agarwal was born on May 4, 2014 in Surat, Gujarat. Her father Prateek Agarwal runs a construction business, and mother Shikha Agarwal is a homemaker, although she occasionally takes up jewelry designing assignments as a hobby. Shikha said that her child was smart from the beginning. He has a great interest in automobiles, which is clearly visible by looking at his toys. He has a collection of 200 toy cars from Hot Wheels. When he sees a car going on the road, he immediately starts telling which car it is and what are the features. Whenever he sees a video of space, he says that he will grow up to be an aeronautical engineer. When the lockdown was imposed at the time of Covid pandemic, schools and outdoor activities were closed. In such a situation, the Agarwal couple got their child’s name registered in Dipesh Desai’s Atharva Classes. In those days, these classes
were conducted in a virtual mode. Advit attended these classes for around 15 months and learned a lot about rapid counting with the help of abacus. Later, he was trained in swimming for the first three months of this year by coach Chirag Jain. Earlier, a child from Atharva Classes had set a record under the India Book of Records. This inspired the Agarwals to let Advit try for a record as well. The parents thought that many children compete in counting and maths categories in a normal way, but hardly anyone has tried doing maths underwater, so they made Advit practice rapid counting underwater in the guidance of both the trainers. Finally, in April, the moment came when he did the attempt and succeeded. The front wall of a swimming pool was made of glass. The numbers were flashed on a laptop screen placed outside on a table and Advit kept counting on from inside the pool.

he campaign ‘Blow the Whistle against ADD & NAFLD’ involved participation and endorsement from over 7,000 doctors from across India to come together as a part of campaign for a common cause of addressing the burning issues of ADD and NAFLD. The record for the maximum doctors stamping support towards awareness on ADD & NAFLD in one month was set by Zydus Discovery, Mumbai, Maharashtra. The campaign titled as ‘Blow the Whistle against ADD & NAFLD’ witnessed a total of 4829 doctors supporting it. The campaign started on December 27, 2021 and concluded on January 26, 2022. Atherogenic Diabetic Dyslipidemia (ADD) and Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD) are the burning issues our country is facing today. The prevalence of NAFLD is as high as 70 percent in Diabetes patients and every 1 out of 3 Indians is suffering with elevated triglycerides (TGs) leading to increase in complexities in such metabolic disorders. ‘Blow the Whistle against ADD & NAFLD’ campaign involved participation and endorsement from over 7,000 doctors from across India to come together as a part of campaign for a common cause of addressing the burning issues of ADD and NAFLD. The campaign aimed to sensitize the clinicians by actively involving them with their approval stamp and signature for showing commitment for managing these unaddressed conditions with the only DCGI (Drug Controller General of India) approved treatment, Lipaglyn (Saroglitazar), and join the movement towards blowing the whistle against ADD & NAFLD. It is worth mentioning that nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is an umbrella term for a range of liver conditions affecting people who drink little to no alcohol. As the name implies, the main characteristic of NAFLD is too much fat stored in liver cells. NAFLD is increasingly common around the world, especially in Western nations. In the United States, it is the most common form of chronic liver disease, affecting about onequarter of the population. Some individuals with NAFLD can develop nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), an aggressive form of fatty liver disease,

which is marked by liver inflammation and may progress to advanced scarring (Cirrhosis) and liver failure. This damage is similar to the damage caused by heavy alcohol use. In the case of Atherogenic Diabetic Dyslipidemia (ADD), the most common pattern of dyslipidemia in type 2 diabetic patients is atherogenic dyslipidemia which is characterized by elevated triglycerides (TGs), raised small dense LDL levels and decreased HDL cholesterol levels. Mr Sushant Mistry, an official from Zydus Discovery said that currently Lipaglyn (Saroglitazar) is the only medication which is approved by DCGI of India for NAFLD, and need of the hour is to identify the risk factors and initiate the treatment at the earliest so that progression and complication can be avoided. When asked what are the benefits of this awareness campaign, Sushant said that blowing the whistle against ADD & NAFLD would improve the acceptance of the need to treat Diabetic Dyslipidemia and NAFLD, thereby utilise India’s own research

molecule to benefit all Indians, who are facing 63 percent higher risk of Cardiovascular mortality rising out of NAFLD. Therefore, the Zydus Discovery commemorated this event on the occasion of Republic Day of India.
Kid memorised the entire periodic table
T
he periodic table is often taught at the secondary level and remembering the table is a difficult task. But a first standard child Muhammed Ameen Bin Thaisser from Bengaluru, Karnataka, has set a record by doing so. The periodic table, also known as the periodic table of the chemical elements, is a tabular display of the chemical elements. It is widely used in chemistry, physics, and other sciences, and is generally seen as an icon of chemistry. It is a graphic formulation of the periodic law, which states that the properties of the chemical elements exhibit a periodic dependence on their atomic numbers. The periodic table is often taught at the secondary level and remembering the table is a difficult task. But a first standard child Muhammed Ameen Bin Thaisser from Bengaluru, Karnataka, has set a record by doing so. At the age of 6 years, 3 months and 24 days, he recited all the 118 elements of the periodic table with their symbols in 1 minute, 13 seconds and 78 milliseconds. Ameen’s mother, Ms Sanitha Sulaiman says that when he was in KG-1, his first and favorite teacher said during the parent teacher meeting (PTM) that your ward has an amazing memory and advised that the child should be given a chance to showcase this talent to the outside world. As a parent this was a spark that led to the selection of India Book of Records as the platform. Ameen is a normal child who learned to speak quite late and knew only his mother tongue when going to the kindergarten. The parents got worried about him, but by the grace of God, there was a gradual change in the child which led to this remarkable achievement. Sanitha, a homemaker, has done MBA and her favorite areas are horticulture, cooking and science. She keeps the child updated with current affairs and tells him stories related to nature and the world. Coincidentally, Ameen also has an interest in science and mathematics. So, the mother started teaching him the scientific names of fruits and vegetables. She was surprised to notice that the child was able to pronounce difficult
words with much ease. He remembered about 50 scientific names without difficulty. His father, Thaisser Ibrahim, used to teach new words while playing with him. On weekends, he used to learn new words from his father. The number of words went up from 20 to 40. Whenever he memorized a new word, his father would take him for a walk in the park as a reward or bring a gift. Ameen currently lives in Qatar, where his father has an electrical goods business. They have a joint family consisting of 11 children. Ameen’s cousin is studying in 10th standard. The two children often sat together and studied. Both of them showed interest when Sanitha started teaching the periodic table. Later, the cousin found it boring, but Ameen kept on memorising the names of all the elements. Born on December 2, 2015, Ameen is a soft-spoken and shy boy, who doesn’t get along with everyone easily. He is a keen observer with interests in painting, singing and playing. At present he is studying in first grade. Sanitha says that every child is unique, and each one has some talent. Give the child wings to fly and let him believe in himself. It is our duty as parents to nurture and develop the talents of the child. Parent child bonding always works wonders. Her biggest tip is to “never compare your child with others”. Let them be little and enjoy the best days of childhood.

Record heart and lung surgeries in South India
D
r Gunturu Varun, Chairman of Dr Varun Cardiology Sciences (VCS), Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, is a son of a farmer. He got Observership under world renowned surgeon Dr Joseph Sabik at Miller Heart and Vascular Institute, Cleveland Clinic, Ohio, USA in 2016. Noted Cardiothoracic, Vascular and Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgeon (MICS), Dr Gunturu Varun of Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, has created a new record for ‘organising a gathering of the maximum number of successful Keyhole, MICS Heart and Cardiothoracic surgery patients’. He has successfully performed 100 MICS or keyhole and Cardiothoracic surgeries in the last four years, which is the highest number of such types of surgeries in South India. All the 100 patients gathered at Hotel Taj Vivanta Gateway, Vijaywada on March 20, 2022 between 10 am to 2 pm to narrate their stories. The programme was chaired by Guntur range police DIG, Dr CM Trivikram Varma. Dr Varun, MBBS, DNB, CTVS, said that MICS reduced the pain and surgical trauma of the diabetic, elderly and other sensitive patients. MICS is performed through a small cut (incision) that is about two inches (4-5 cm) and is becoming popular among the patients in Andhra Pradesh due to minor pain and reduced trauma. The doctor explained the keyhole surgery would eliminate the need for medium sternotomy, greatly reduce the trauma and pain associated with open-chest surgery and improve quality of life for patients. In the hospital, reduced postoperative discomfort enabled patients to quickly begin a shorter

recovery process. Similarly, the keyhole heart surgery lowered the risk of complications such as bleeding and infection, and eliminated the risk of sternal non-union. The 37-years-old doctor mentioned that keyhole heart surgery improved cosmetic results, mainly in women. Rather than a prominent 10-inch scar down the middle of the chest, patients were left with smaller marks to the side of the ribs in keyhole heart surgery and for women, in many cases the scar was completely unnoticeable as it sat below the breast. The MICS patients gathered at the event, expressed happiness over the keyhole heart surgery and narrated their experiences. They said that they recovered swiftly with a lot of benefits like no splitting of the breast-bone, reduction in pain, lower risk of infection, lower risk of bleeding, reduced ICU and hospital stay, improved postoperative pulmonary function, accelerated recovery and improved quality of life. Later at another function, Andhra Pradesh Governor, Biswa Bhushan Harichandan felicitated Dr Varun by presenting him the medal and the certificate of the India Book of Records. The Governor also inaugurated Dr Varun Cardiology Sciences (VCS), an advanced cardiology care hospital established by Dr Gunturu Varun. The Governor said that cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are the number one cause of death globally and with increased globalization and urbanization, the risk of cardiovascular diseases has increased due to increased exposure to the risk factors. Heart attack is the most prevailing condition and bringing awareness about this can save many lives as prevention is better than cure. It is worth mentioning that Dr Gunturu Varun, Chairman of Dr Varun Cardiology Sciences (VCS), is a son of a farmer. He got Observership under world renowned surgeon Dr Joseph Sabik at Miller Heart and Vascular Institute, Cleveland Clinic, Ohio, USA in 2016. The next year, he again got selected as Observer at UHN Toronto General Hospital, Canada, under Dr Mitesh Badhiwala.
Writing fiction to spread joy in North East
I
n the pandemic time of utter distress, confined within the four walls due to lockdown, Sumindra picked up the pen after a gap of 20 years, and started writing on Facebook and Watsapp groups so that he could infuse a sense of positivity among the readers. Sumindra Chowdhury, a mechanical engineer and novelist, has been appreciated by the India Book of Records for writing three novels. Two of the novels ‘Ejon Sahitya Avijantar Atmokotha’ and ‘Bihangam Dristit Mizoram’ are written in Assamese Language, while the third one ‘Nghah-Loh-Dawr’ is an English translation of ’Bihangam Dristit Mizoram’. Sumindra (45), a native of Gautam Buddha Nagar, UP, and by profession, says, “The machines being the brainchild of human beings solve complicated problems in a simple and easy manner. Sometimes I heal these machines when they are screaming and muttering in pain, by nursing them with care. While sometimes I put life into dead machines lying quiet, abandoned and in an unimposing way. For me literature is somewhat similar to that of the machines. Literature, the brainchild of human beings, takes shape on the paper, and is also quiet and imposing. But that very literature can evoke and fill the human heart with exuberance, vigour, anguish, love, enmity and could also arouse the blaze of hatred.” Looking at literature from the eyes of an engineer, he tries to fill it with spirit and life, which can benefit the people. In the last two years, due to the scare of Covid pandemic, most of the people remained indoors and were badly affected economically and mentally, resulting in widespread desperation and threat to life, During such times of utter distress, being locked within the four walls due to lockdown, he picked up the pen after a gap of twenty years, and started writing on Facebook and various WhatsApp groups so that he could infuse a sense of positivity among the readers. Positive response from many people encouraged him a lot and he began to write different types of stories and articles along with three novels one after the other. During this time, he penned down more than 50 stories and 45 essays on various
topics to motivate people and to provide solutions to various problems. Out of these creations, 40 stories and 30 essays were compiled in a book named Ejon Sahitya Avijantar Atmokotha. In the second book, Bihangam Dristit Mizoram, the protagonist Anurag is a mechanical engineer who passed out from the North Eastern Regional Institute of Science & Technology, works in a multinational company. After getting the job, he got an opportunity to visit Mizoram, where he reunited with his old classmates. The book reflects best practices of Mizos. The protagonist was inspired by a few unique social practices like Grouping village culture, Natlang activities (contributions of physical labour for social welfare) and Nghah-Loh-Dawr (a shop without a shopkeeper). He finds that the locals in Mizoram follow the traffic rules and do the rain water harvesting, practices which can be a good example for the rest of the country. Hereafter, the novelist wrote about Lal Denga, a separatist who fought for Mizo Land, a separate country and later he was called the father of Mizoram. Sumindra says that 98% people in Mizoram are literate. They are polite, humble and hardworking in nature and have cordial relations with the neighboring states. The motive of this novel was to restore the sisterly relationship between Assam and Mizoram. The third book, Nghah-Loh-Dawr, is actually an English translation of the ‘Bihangam Dristit Mizoram’, which is based on the history, society, natural beauty and cultural uniqueness of Mizoram. The novels are published by Vasha Publication.

Electro-mechanical brake system to prevent accidents
A
Pune-based professor has invented the Electro HydroPneumatic Brake Failure Detection System, also known as Electro-Mechanical Braking System, which signals brake failure to the driver through light and sounds, after which the vehicle can be stopped by activating a secondary braking system. Road accidents occur due to many reasons, such as high speed of vehicles, loss of balance, sleepiness of the driver, technical fault, or brake failure etc. There are five lakh road accidents reported in India every year, in which about 1.5 lakh people are killed and millions are injured. India loses three percent of its gross domestic product (GDP) due to road accidents. In the event of brake failure, the drivers of the car, truck or bus are unable to control the vehicle even if they want to and an accident occurs. Various measures have been taken from time to time to prevent such accidents. In this context, a new invention has come to light which can be extremely helpful in preventing such accidents. The innovative advanced Electro Hydro-Pneumatic Brake Failure Detection System has been invented by Prof Sunil Pandurang Chaphalkar of Pune Maharashtra, setting a new record in the India Book of Records. This invention is

also called the Electro-Mechanical Braking System (EMBS). The mechanism of the EMBS has been published in the weekly Official Journal of the Patent Office, Government of India on February 25, 2022. The main purpose of this system (patent applied for) is to identify any problem in the primary braking system and automatically apply brakes on the vehicle when necessary. The EMBS may be available as a kit after official approval, and can be installed in automobiles at the time of manufacturing. The system signals brake failure to the driver, so that the secondary braking system can be activated to stop the vehicle. Prof. Chaphalkar is the HoD, Mechanical Engineering at Pimpri Chinchwad Polytechnic, Nigdi, Maharashtra. He has applied for 11 other patents, already published in the Official Journal of the Patent Office. Some of them are: Bullock cart load balancing system, Hydro-electric hand brake system, Solid fertilizer spreading machine, Automatic train and platform gap adjustment mechanism, Dual cable gear shifter mechanism for automotive vehicles, Front wheel axle assembly for electric vehicles (EVs), Comfort seat mechanism for two-wheeler passenger rear support sear, and Train coach entry pathway for physically challenged persons, etc. He did B.E. in Mechanical Engineering from College of Engineering, Pune in 1985 and thereafter, took M.E. in Thermal Engineering from Sinhgad College of Engineering, Pune. Born on March 6, 1965 in Satara, Maharashtra, Prof. Chaphalkar’s father was also a teacher. Prof. Chaphalkar, who was very much interested in machines since childhood, is always working on new ideas along with regular teaching. Under his guidance, the mechanical engineering students of the college made an all-terrain vehicle. Chaphalkar’s 25 research papers have been published in prestigious research journals around the world, such as International Journal of Civil and Mechanical Engineering; International Journal of Engineering Research Association; and Journal of Indian Organization of Science and Research.
Yogic Plank Pose by a child P
lank Pose Yoga strengthens the abdominals, arms, wrists, arms, shoulders, back, core and legs. This is a great yoga asana to develop overall strength and balance in the body. Megh Maulik practiced for six months to master the pose. Megh Maulik Patel from Ahmedabad, Gujarat has got appreciation from India Book of Records for maintaining the Plank Pose for 47 minutes at the age of 7 years 7 months. To master this yoga pose, the boy practiced hard for a full six months. To stay in this position, he started with one minute and increased his timing to 47 minutes. Plank pose is considered an important position in yoga. His mother Meghmani, who herself is a marathon runner, said that Megh wakes up early in the morning and does exercises devotedly for an hour. He loves to play football and aspires to play for the Indian football team one day. We follow the philosophy of simple living and high thinking. All the family members, including the grandparents, give preference to physical exercise, yoga and wellness. His father is also a fitness freak and likes to play cricket and golf. I think the same traits have transferred to both of our children too. Our daughter is a champion in gymnastics. Megh is a focused, friendly and disciplined child from the beginning, and loves to socialize with people. He is of inquisitive nature and has a desire to understand everything fast. Even in school, he is a favorite of his teachers because of his caring and
responsible nature. During the lockdown days, he maintained his fitness routine and did yoga every morning. Megh is an adventurous type of kid and once during a vacation he jumped into the sea, although he did not know how to swim. Meghmani’s message to other parents is to give the kids the right environment. Parents should teach children that instead of leading a normal life, they should lead a challenging life and keep striving to achieve new milestones. All children have enormous potential, which needs to be recognized and developed. There should not be a comparison between two children, because every child is different. A child grows up well with motivation and care. In the absence of proper care and guidance, the child will remain an average performer. The Plank Pose is a challenging yet accessible yoga position that is beneficial in many ways. In this pose, balance has to be made by keeping the body straight on the hands and toes. It is difficult, but after doing it, a person feels powerful and calm. In plank pose, the whole body remains in a stable position. Those who do this asana for the first time should do it a few times a day for 30 seconds, then gradually the time can be increased. By doing this, the abdominal muscles, hands, wrists, arms, shoulders, back, core and legs get strengthened. This is a great yoga asana to develop overall strength and balance in the body.

Passion for creating innovative products from scrap T
he giant blue whale made from scrap iron was to be displayed at the Ravana ka Chabutra ground in Jodhpur. Two thousand sea creatures, including the whale, were created inside a huge dome called the Sea-World. Entrepreneur Ajay Sharma of Jodhpur, Rajasthan set the record for making a huge 85-feet-long giant blue whale weighing 1200 kg from scrap iron, for which his name has got included in the India Book of Records. Coming from the Marwar region, Sharma is the director of a firm called Home Designers; and this whale was created by him with the help of scrap materials to display at the Western Rajasthan Handicrafts Fair. It was part of a huge dome called Sea-World erected at the Ravana Ka Chabutra ground in Jodhpur. However, this fair was later postponed due to Covid restrictions. The Sea-World exhibition was a mesmerizing structure created by a team of 107 artists in a span of two months. More than 26,000 feet of blue cloth was brought from Jaipur for the dome, inside which over 2,000 models of sea creatures including the whale were installed. It was given the shape of an underwater dreamworld. A statue of Mahatma Gandhi was also made from

4500 kg of iron scrap for display. There was also a plan to install a 34-feet-long syringe and two 12-feet-high vials inside the dome for mass awareness about the Covid vaccine. In addition, a 32 ft submarine and a 25 ft long sinking ship were prepared from 450 kg old iron parts for display at the Sea-World. The blue whale structure was so huge in size that it required a lot of space, therefore it was dismantled later. The idea was to introduce the children to the marine world and sea creatures. The entire structure was made with waste parts of machines and junk. 44-year-old Ajay Sharma is a well-known figure in the field of handicrafts in Rajasthan. He grew up as a very inquisitive child. In 1991, he set up a factory to manufacture corrugated boxes for packaging at Boranada Industrial Estate in Jodhpur. Later on, he shifted his attention to recycle and reshape scrap materials under the theme of ‘Jugaad Se Jugaad’. Initially innovative household products were made from used jeans, army tents, empty grain bags etc. With his imagination and creativity, he put life in the junk. He designed unique lamp stands, cupboards, racks and furniture pieces using junk like old scooters, cars,
