Massive Relay of Ghoomar Folk Dance T
he record for organizing the largest Ghoomar dance has been created by Rajasthani Mahila Mandal in Bhiwandi, Maharashtra. The distinctive folk dance of Rajasthan was performed by an all-women group of 1481 dancers on May 1, 2022, at All Saints School, Nashik By-Pass Road, Bhiwandi, Maharashtra. This collective dance record was set in a span of 35 minutes.
Secretary of Rajasthani Mahila Mandal, Professor Raksha Karwa said that the record was made in Bhiwandi, in the Thane district of the Konkan division of Maharashtra. Due to the Covid pandemic, it was not possible to organize such activity during the last two years, so in the month of April last, as soon as the working environment got better, a plan was made for such an event.

The organizers believed that the Ghoomar dance is an important traditional folk art of Rajasthan that should be expanded and at least the people of Rajasthan origin living in Maharashtra should make some effort to spread it. This thinking was discussed among like-minded people and a mega event of Ghoomar dance was planned on a large scale. At the beginning, a Ghoomar Dance Workshop of seven days was held. Instructors skilled in traditional Rajasthani dances conducted the training program. All the volunteer dancers who participated in this week-long dance grooming workshop were given refreshments and certificates of participation in the closing ceremony. Professor Raksha Karva, who teaches commerce at BNN College, said that the females in the age group of 14 to 70 years participated enthusiastically in the main event. Everyone was wearing colorful lehenga and chunni. Four groups of dancers were formed, and each group had 450 dancers. They mesmerized the audience by performing the Ghoomar dance both collectively and group-wise.

Dancers from adjoining areas of Mumbai and different parts of Maharashtra took part in this record-breaking event of mega Ghoomar dance. Most of these women participants came from places like Bhiwandi, Thane, Mulund, Ghatkopar, Mira, Bhayandar, Panvel, Andheri, Kalyan, Sahad, Ambernath, Dombivli, Kalyan, etc. Chandra Prakash Kumawat, Secretary of the International Marwari Federation, played an instrumental role in making the event a success. Ms Raksha said that Ghoomar is a traditional folk dance of Rajasthan. It was started by the members of the Bhil tribe to worship Goddess Saraswati, which was later adopted by other communities of Rajasthan. This dance is mainly performed by veiled women wearing Ghaghra. It is generally performed in a wide circle; hence it is called Ghoomar. As per the traditional customs, the newly-wed bride is expected to perform the Ghoomar dance upon being welcomed into the new home. Ghoomar is often performed at weddings, festivals, and religious functions, sometimes lasting for hours. The dancing performance of Ghoomar Relay was just as colourful record of this month as it was memorable.
Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Mosaic created by Rubik’s Cubes
C
hhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the glorious Maratha king who is venerated for his victories and bravery in numerous battles against the Mughals, was immortalized in a very colourful manner by a group of people in Maharashtra recently. They created a giant mosaic with the help of numerous Rubik’s cubes. The mosaic portrait had the highest number of Rubik’s cubes, to be precise more than 5000, thereby setting a record, which got a place in the India Book of Records. This record for making the largest mosaic portrait of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj using Rubik’s cubes mosaic measured 12 ft x 13 ft in size, using a total of 5023 Rubik’s Cubes or say 5023 coloured squares. The students, who came from Pune, Nashik, Satara, Kolhapur, Badlapur, Navi Mumbai, Thane, and nearby villages from Karjat, took a single cube each and
placed them at appropriate spots so that the collective result formed a huge portrait of Shivaji. This event was jointly organized by Nitin Chandrakant Desai, owner of ND’s Film World Studio, and Ajay Darekar, founderdirector of Versatile Educaare System, a Mumbai-based company that provides a Brain and Skill Development Program. The ND’s Film World Studio is based in Karjat, and its founder, Mr. Desai is a noted art director and production designer of Indian cinema turned a film and television producer, most known for his work in Marathi and Hindi films. The Rubik’s cube is a toy that enhances mental faculties and mathematical acumen. It is quite a popular toy, as well as one of the highest selling ones. It was invented in 1974 by Erno Rubik, a Hungarian architecture professor. Rubik created the Cube as a learning exercise to teach his students about 3-dimensional spaces. Little did he know his ‘Magic Cube’ (as he originally named it) would become one of the world’s most famous puzzles of all time. The Rubik’s Cube is revered as one of the most beloved toys of all time. Each year millions of Cubes are sold, solved, and shared among friends, families, and puzzle seekers alike. Mrs Vimal Soman, the brain behind this record-breaking activity, looks after the business development part of the Versatile Educaare System, one of the organizers of this recordbreaking event. The concept of organizing such an event was the master plan of her imagination. Her motive behind setting this record was that the students should not just be aware of Chattrapati Shivaji Maharaj but spread awareness about Rubik’s Cube through this mosaic art. The participating students were proud to participate in such a grand record-breaking event.

Apart from coins, Sandeep also has a collection of old currency notes of the Government of India ranging from one rupee to 1000 rupees. Sandeep had claimed as having the largest collection of uncirculated and commemorative coins. Accepting his application, IBR officials reached his residence to verify the claim. In the investigation, the claim was found to be correct, after which his record was declared. Sandeep, a software engineer by profession, works for an IT company in Bengaluru, Karnataka. During the last two years, Sandeep mostly worked from home, which proved to be a blessing in disguise, as he got more time to pursue his hobby of coin collection. His love for coins started way back in 2004 when his grandfather presented him with a unique coin of Rs.5 denomination. He was studying in fifth grade at that time. After that, the interest in coins kept on increasing, and he started collecting coins of unique shapes and appearances. His wife Deepty Mohnani also helps in the collection of coins.
Sandeep says that he started visiting exhibitions to learn more about coins and attended several workshops as well. Additionally, he got guidance from senior collectors also. After gaining sufficient knowledge, he bought some necessary equipment including a microscope. He is associated with some auction houses like Marudhar Arts in Bengaluru and Todywalla Auctions in Mumbai. Coin auctions are held quarterly at these auction houses, in which he regularly participates. He intends to set up a coin museum of his own. Uncirculated coins are issued by the government from time to time, and public announcements are done for advance booking. A limited number of coins are released according to the bookings. The commemorative coins are made of silver (50%) and a few other metals like copper, nickel, and zinc. A coin worth Rs 3000 to Rs 6000 can fetch you up to Rs 18,000 after some time. After 30 years such coins fall under the category of antique items. Sandeep himself has more than 300 unique coins of different types in his collection, which are arranged mintwise and year-wise. There are more than 1000 single coins of 42 denominations in Sandeep’s collection.

infrastructure and training opportunities among underprivileged young athletes. The fashion show, held as part of the expo, won a record for having the maximum number of models in a sustainable fashion show, wherein the models wore sustainable handlooms, weaves and wedding designs depicting the theme Weaves of India.
The record-winning fashion show featured more than 250 models, including transgenders, housewives, children, plus-size people, the elderly and differently-abled persons, apart from professionals from different walks of life. The show upheld a message of inclusivity in terms of colour, body type, gender and age. Creations of popular national and international fashion designers like Rajesh Pratap Singh, Payal Pratap, Urvashi Kaur, Jebin Johny, Santhosh Kumar, Abhini Sohan Roy, Sanjana John and others were part of the show choreographed by Dalu Krishnadas and Jude Felix. According to show director, Sobha Viswanath, the event was an effort to break the existing taboo and stereotypes in the fashion industry. The record was an attempt to showcase the importance of sustainable fashion and our traditional handloom from a global perspective. We even had cancer survivors as our models. One of the showstoppers apart from actors Parvathy Jayaram and her daughter Malavika was Tiffany Brar, the visually challenged activist who won the Nari Shakthi award from the President of India recently. The fashion show, which was attended by thousands of spectators, featured three rounds of handloom designs Weaves of India, Handloom of Everyday and Wedding Collections. Sobha says the show was also an opportunity for amateur models to spend a day walking the ramp wearing designer clothes. It was also a tribute to weavers across our country, to create awareness about the usage of handloom in sustainable clothing. Apart from handlooms from Balaramapuram, fabric from other states was also included. Prejish Nirbhaya, Director, Brandfell, a branding consultancy based in Thiruvananthapuram, said that there was no age, colour, caste, size or gender bar to the event. It was the biggest fashion event in the handloom sector, which actually changed the concept of modelling. The event was a fund-raiser to enhance training opportunities and infrastructure to shape talented athletes. Prejish said that it was his idea to claim a record under the India Book of Records. Good old handloom is lending a helping hand to sports. The land of legendary athletes like P T Usha, Shiny Wilson, Anju Bobby George and K M Beena
Mol, of late the state has been lagging in sports which in turn forced the government to float an event called Kerala Olympics this year. The aim is to groom and provide ample opportunities to train top-notch sportspersons. “We follow a triple bottom line- people, planet and profit. We gave a message that as casual wear we can don handloom every day to help the traditional weavers. It will also be in tune with Prime Minister Modi’s initiative ‘my handloom, my pride,” said Sobha.

The Youngest Horse Rider
I
ndia Book of Records has been proud to associate itself with a little angel who achieved the record for being the youngest horse rider. Her name is Hindavi Nikhil Yadav of Mumbai, Maharashtra and her age is merely 2years, 4 months, and 20 days. This little girl child rode a horse for a total of 50 minutes at Goodwill Stud Farm, Dand Phata, Lodhivali Village, Maharashtra on May 21, 2022. She performed 13 different activities like rising trot, sitting trot, 2-point trot, Pole bending, toe touch while riding, hand on head, and waist while riding. With this, she became the youngest horse rider in the country. Hindavi, sitting on a horse, is not afraid at all and she performs various tricks with great ease, following the orders of her coach. Sometimes she does stretching while horseriding, sometimes she shows the process of descending and climbing, and then she sits comfortably with one hand resting on her head or waist. Along with the movement of the horse, the Hindvi’s body also moves up and down. His rhythm while horse riding is worth seeing.
14
India Book of Records | July 2022
Born on December 16, 2019, Hindavi lives in Khopoli Village, 8 km from Lonavala. Her father, Nikhil Yadav is working as an Assistant Engineer in City and Industrial Development Corporation Limited (CIDCO), Mumbai, Maharashtra. Mother Shweta is a homemaker, who also rescues and helps the needy street animals. The family left their home in Mumbai and lives in a rented house in nearby Khopoli village to take care of the rescued animals. There are four rescued indie dogs and five cats living in the house. Growing up with the animals in her home, Hindvi is comfortable with all the animals. That is why she did not have any problem in riding the horse, although she had seen the horse for the first time. At Goodwill Stud Farm, training is usually given to children above the age of five, while Hindavi was only two years and two months old then. There, in a competition, Hindavi participated in a special appearance. Seeing the rhythm of Hindavi on the horse, the owner of the stud farm, Hatim Lakdawala said that “this girl is a gifted child”. At the same time, he announced to give lifelong free horse riding and training to the girl.
Considering the horse riding training, the parents have decided to get the child admitted to the Hiranandani Trust Playway School, located near the stud farm. Apart from horse riding, Hindavi also has a sharp mind. She can sing 40 songs in Hindi and Marathi. During the day, her father’s time is spent in the office, so it is the responsibility of her mother Mrs. Shweta to take Hindavi to the stud farm in the evening. At the end of the horse riding session, her father also joins in and the family returns home together. Hindavi has got various picture books having different types of photographs. Seeing the picture books, she has started recognizing many animals and objects with ease. She is also learning the English alphabet and counting. Nikhil says that parents should spend more time with their children. Seeing the interest of the children, one should think about developing it and never force anything on the child. Children should be allowed to do whatever they want to learn or do as per their wish.

Precision Farming producing Word Formations
I
t is said that if a pledge is done with sincerity, some day it will surely get materialized. One such pledge was made 36 years ago by Mukeshbhai Dungarshibhai Chavda, a resident of village Ghetti of Taluka Palitana, district Bhavnagar in Gujarat, which not only has now turned into reality, but this work has also got his name mentioned in the India Book of Records. Mukeshbhai does farming as well as runs a sweet shop also, that’s why people also call him ‘Doodhwala’. He prepares sweets from milk and sells it. He is 48-years-old and has two sons. He dropped out in 1991 when he failed for the third time in the high school exam and started the sweets business the following year. In the year 1986, for the first time, Mukeshbhai listened to the Ram Katha narrated by Sant Morari Bapu on a tape recorder. He kept listening to the Katha again and again. He liked the story of Rama so much that he became a devotee of Morari Bapu. One day it came to his mind that some unique work should be done on any subject related to Morari Bapu. It should be based on an out-of-the-box idea, so that the name of his village Ghetti spreads all over the world. He is also fond of reading Shrimad Bhagwat Geeta, which states that one does not get anything before the time. For the entire period of 36 years, he kept repeating his dream and vow. After finishing his routine work, he is in the habit of listening to the thoughts of saints and great leaders in the evening. He mostly watches the inspiring videos of Prime

Minister Narendra Modi, actors Amitabh Bachchan, Gyanvatsal Swamy, Sanjaybhai Rawal, Suresh Semwal, and Shri Savjibhai Dholakia among others. Hearing their thoughts, he got inspired to make his dream come true. Last year, when his son Ravi got a job as a teacher in Talagjarda village of Morari Bapu, he realized that his resolution was also probably about to come true. One day, sitting in his field, he started writing Morari Bapu’s name on the soil with a finger. After this, the thought came to his mind that why not highlight the keywords of Morari Bapu in the field through farming. Satya (truth), Prem (love), and Karuna (compassion) are the favorite words of Bapu. He thought of highlighting these words in the field. Before starting work, he decided to check on Google and YouTube to find out if anyone else in the world has ever done anything like this before. When nothing of this sort was found, then on February 10, 2022, he sowed millet (bajra) on 1.8 acres of land by writing words like Morari Bapu, Satya, Prem, and Karuna in the field. This work took three days (72 hours) for perfection. The letters were written with the help of a tractor and millet was sown on them. If the letters were not formed properly, they were rewritten. The help of a drone was also taken to check the shape of letters. This initiative created a record whereby the name of Mukeshbhai and his village Ghetti got mentioned in the India Book of Records. In this way, his 36-year-old dream came true.

Participation in maximum running marathons
M
s. Manisha Srivastava of Gurugram, Haryana has set a record for participating in the most marathon races. Born in April 1972, Manisha participated in several marathon races including the Virtual Marathon, and from December 2013 to April 2022, achieved a total number of 101 certifications, including 31 for the Half Marathons and 8 for the Virtual Marathons. Manisha was earlier an HR professional in different multinational companies. She is also the first woman from North India to complete the Ultraman Challenge. In November 2019, when the Ultraman Challenge, which is considered one of the toughest endurance triathlons in the world, was held in India for the first time, a dozen athletes completed the race. Manisha was the only woman among them. The race was of three days duration, consisting of a 10 km swim followed by a double marathon run of 421 km. This race was won by only a few people from India and except for Ms. Anu Vaidyanathan of Bengaluru, Karnataka, they were all men. It is interesting to know that Manisha did not even start running till the age of 40. Initially, she used to run 5 km. Then did well in the half marathon and the timing was also good, so her courage kept increasing to try her luck for more challenges. She dropped the idea of working in the office to focus on raising her two daughters. Then she started running in 2014 and soon, it became her full-time work. She said, in 2016, after doing a few marathons, she wanted to try something new, so tried triathlons.
She was not an expert swimmer and at the time, she wanted to do this to face her fear of the depths. She did it somehow. This inspired her to go for triathlons for longer distances. When she was in the 7th grade in school, she had participated in a 100-meter race and fell only after running 70 meters. After the birth of her first daughter, she started running to cure her asthma. However, she stopped running after her asthma was cured. What is her routine on a normal day? She gets up at 4 in the morning and drinks a big glass of warm water. After that, she takes a cup of black coffee with two slices of toast, a teaspoon of peanut butter, a pinch of cinnamon, and a teaspoon of organic honey. After taking a bath, she goes for a daily run. Around 10.30 am to 11 am, she eats three boiled eggs, some fresh fruits, and a handful of dry fruits. Sometimes she likes to chew on microwave-roasted peanuts in her spare time. Before swimming, she drinks masala tea at 11.30 am and at 3 pm. Tea is one of her favourite drinks. She takes normal lunch and dinner but eats dinner early. In Delhi NCR, pollution has been a big challenge for her as she couldn’t go out for her running and cycling. She confined herself to indoor training mostly. The second challenge was cycling on road, because of both traffic hazards and safety issues as a woman.

Collection of most species of bamboo
T
he record for the collection of maximum bamboo species in the country is held by Prashant Atmaram Date of Nashik, Maharashtra, whose bamboo farm Date Bambusetum is located in Lakhalgaon, of Nashik District, where he displayed a collection of 94 species of bamboo at one place at the time of record making. Born on September 8, 1993, Prashant had done a Diploma course in Information Technology in 2012, but because of having an agricultural background, he was interested in bamboo farming from the beginning. Thus, he shifted his attention to bamboo cultivation in 2017. Prashant explains that under the Indian Forest Act 1927, bamboo had the status of a tree, due to which it was banned from cutting and had many restrictions. But in November 2017, this act was revised by the government and bamboo got into the category of grass. When this happened, everyone became interested in bamboo cultivation. In the Ratnagiri district of the Konkan region, the ‘Dendrocalamus Stocksii’ species is found abundantly and is commonly used for making furniture, construction material, and incense sticks. According to Prashant, a total of 148 species of bamboo are found in India, out of which 136 species are considered indigenous. Prashant has established Date Bambusetum. Here ‘Bamboosetum’ means a collection of different species of bamboo. It takes 3-4 years for bamboo plants to mature completely. He has five acres of agricultural land on which he used to cultivate grapes. Later he started growing bamboo on the advice of a forester. In the year 2020, he had already collected 20 Bamboo species. He used to make videos out of that collection and uploaded them on his YouTube channel. Seeing these videos, people started approaching him. The National Bamboo Mission provides subsidies for up to two years on 19 of these species, which are all-weather species. On the other hand, Maharashtra Bamboo Development Board (MBDB), Nagpur has given priority to 9 species.

He has brought different species of bamboo from far-flung places for his Bambusetum. At present, the number of bamboo species in his collection has increased to 148, of which 21 were received from MBDB. The Kerala Forest Research Institute provided him 10 species of bamboo. Afterward, he bought 33 species for his farm from the Science and Technology Studies Center in Wayanad, Kerala. So far, about Rs, 6 lakh has been invested in buying different varieties. For some species, he had
to visit states like Karnataka, Jharkhand, Uttarakhand, Assam, and Nagaland. Prashant is all set to take his bamboo cultivation project on a large scale. He has formed a company named Bamboo Next LLP, under which he wants to take 100 acres of agricultural land on lease in the Pune district to cultivate bamboo on a commercial scale. He will also set up a Bamboo Treatment Plant, where with the help of sophisticated machines and chemicals, the life of bamboo shoots can be increased up to 7 to 40 years.
The treated bamboo shoots are then used in the construction industry. So far, more than 500 people interested in bamboo cultivation have visited the Date Bamboo Farm. Apart from farmers, the visitors also include students, women, entrepreneurs, scientists, government officials, and environmental activists. Most of these people are from different districts of Uttarakhand, Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand, Telangana, and Maharashtra.

C
reating another milestone in the health and hygiene sector, the Kamrup district administration on May 30, 2022, made it to the India Book of Records (IBR) by successfully organizing the largest menstrual training programme for men at a single venue and on the same day in the Hindi language. The mega training programme was held at the main auditorium of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati, Assam, where 1,109 male participants took training regarding maintaining hygiene during the menstrual periods of females and other social issues related to menstruation. According to Ms Shehnab Sahin, Assistant Commissioner, the Kamrup district administration has been conducting various sensitization programmes covering different sections of the society, such as providing online training regarding maintaining health and hygiene during periods and eliminating taboos related to it. By organizing such a mega training programme for males, the Kamrup district administration in Assam achieved another record in this field. After the event, IBR adjudicator, Jitendra Kumar Jain presented the certificate of setting a national record to the Deputy Commissioner, Kamrup. A video featuring women and the menstruationrelated challenges they experience was also screened. Before the commencement of the training session, the Deputy Commissioner
in his speech highlighted various steps taken by the district administration over the last year. Dr T G Sitharaman, Director of IIT Guwahati also addressed the gathering. It was stated that discrimination against menstruating women is widespread and periods have long been taboo and considered impure. Menstruating women are often excluded from social and religious events, denied entry into temples and even kept out of kitchens. To address this, a street play busting the myths related to menstruation was also staged. Earlier, with a view to spreading awareness on menstrual hygiene management and the issues faced by women during menstruation, the Kamrup District Water and Sanitation Committee celebrated a month-long menstrual hygiene and sanitation programme from April 28, 2022, that culminated on May 28, 2022. The month-long campaign saw various activities including the distribution of 28,000 free reusable sanitary pads of Project Baala amongst adolescent girls of classes VIII, IX and X in Kamrup district and an awareness session on menstruation which is a natural biological process, that affects half of the world’s population at the reproductive age of 12 to 49 years. Schools also organised drawing, essay writing and slogan writing competitions for students on the subject of menstrual hygiene. Apart from this, a Block level awareness meeting was held for ASHA (accredited social health activist) workers, focussing on menstrual hygiene, sanitation and proper waste disposal. ASHA worker is a community health worker instituted by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare as a part of India’s National Rural Health Mission. Previously, the Kamrup District Water and Sanitation Committee organised online meetings on menstrual health and hygiene on the 28th of every month to generate awareness amongst the community. In addition to this, in a report of the National Family Health Survey-4 (NFHS-4), it was stated that girls and women between the age of 15 and 24, especially those living in rural areas of Assam, need more awareness about menstrual hygiene.

observation skills
. Rishva Narahari, a toddler from Bengaluru, Karnataka, has received appreciation from the India Book of Records for performing an exemplary feat at a very tender age of 1 year and 11 months. The child identified various flash cards, apart from reading English words, reciting rhymes, enacting action words, and imitating animal sounds. As of now, he can tell and identify more than 350 flashcards in categories including 1 to 50 numbers,11 musical instruments, 20 comic book characters, 20 vegetables, 23 fruits, 30 animals, 15 transportation, 20 shapes, 20 birds, 15 food items, 10 antonyms, 15 synonyms 6 community helpers, 6 flowers, 4 park items, 26 alphabets, 10 colours, continents, planets, 10 famous personalities and wonders of the world. He is good at enacting 23 animal sounds, counting 30 objects, reading 54 words, answering 35 GK questions, and reciting 15+ rhymes. His father, Satya Sriram, a computer engineer at Siemens, said, “From the time we knew we would become parents, we put conscious effort to give our child the best of everything. During pregnancy days, we used to diligently listen to Garbha Sanskar audio. We tried to do a lot of research to know what could be implemented to make our child the best version of us. One thing we realized was that kids progress well if they are taught well till the age of 5. Beginning with Rishva’s birth, we used to interact with him a lot. The interactions would be about the events that were happening around him. For example, whenever we gave him a bath, we used to tell a sequence of actions like ‘let’s take a bath, are you excited?’ ‘Now I’m filling the bucket’, etc. We used to give him some sensorial activities like touching various textures, feeling hot and cold, variety of smells.”
28
India Book of Records | July 2022
The child was made to listen to different kinds of musical notes and mantras. For example, every night before he used to sleep, the ‘Tryambakam’ mantra was played. After a few initial days of this activity, he got accustomed to that song and would sleep on playing the mantra. Every day after bath, ‘Ganesh Strotram’ was played. His mom used to sing rhymes, mantras, and shlokas frequently in a timely schedule. She used to sing a lot of songs, and lullabies to make him sleep and to stop his crying. This helped him to develop very good auditory skills, and whenever he listens to a song or rhyme, he hums the sound of the song that he hears. Rishva’s mother, Ratna Kumari Murala, a software engineer with Cognizant Technology Solution, said, “We made a habit to tell him stories during bedtime. In general, we try to keep him engaged by asking him questions whenever possible so that he develops logical reasoning and creativity. He got the enthusiasm and curiosity to learn new things by birth. As he was more interested and enjoyed learning, we got all the motivation to teach him new things. Some other activities that we used to do regularly were teaching him counting, logic in sizes, and some simple physical activities like moving by keeping him over a pillow, swinging him up-down, left-right gently. He started to utter a few simple words like ‘bath time’, and ‘play time’ at about 10 months. He became fond of shapes and started telling the shape names correctly. Wherever we went out he used to detect the shapes that came into his vision and he was overjoyed seeing them.”
Certificates create the Oscar moments F
rom school to college, we all come across many certificates from time to time, which we often keep safe in files or cabinets and take a look at them only now and then. The certificates take us to the memory lane and return back to the same files. We came across a gentleman who not only kept the certificates intact but also got recognition from the India Book of Records for achieving multiple certificates in different activities. Meet Dr. Shreyas Srivatsan from Bengaluru, Karnataka, who is the Regional Head – Business Strategy (South India & International) at the Indian Hotels Company Limited, a Tata Group company. 42-year-old Dr. Shreyas is a kind-hearted person, who voluntarily goes for blood donation whenever the opportunity arises. Till now he has donated blood more than 20 times. Out of the 109 certificates submitted to the India Book of Records, 10 percent belong to blood donation, as for the rest, 29 certificates are from school days, and 31 from college time, while the remaining 52 certificates pertain to his professional life. He says that participation in the IBR was accidental. One day he was checking all his certificates when he realized that the number of certificates had exceeded one hundred, so he applied. Dr Shreyas said, “Today I feel proud and feel that this honor is like a personal Oscar award for me and it is a recognition of all the efforts that I have put in to earn each and every certificate. I am reliving those moments of truth and cherish the stories behind each and every incident in my life. The appreciation I received for getting recognition of all the certificates is like winning 109 mini-Oscars of my life. Today when I look at all those certificates and tell their stories, I am inspiring the lives of many others and playing a role in creating a dream for
them that they too can achieve something important in their life. Along with this, they can contribute to the development of the country.” I used to get first prize in fancy dress competitions in school and the credit goes to my parents. They used to dress me up and teach me value-based dialogues, which I used to memorize and speak on stage. Today when I look back, I see a greater purpose in those activities. It instilled confidence in me and prepared me for public speaking at a very young age. I have embellished the roles of Jai Hanuman, Raja Ashok, etc. I believe that learning is a continuous process. I did my doctorate during the time of the Covid pandemic. As the pandemic was a new revelation to mankind, the global industrial and service economy was severely affected and was even harsher for the hospitality industry. So, I chose to study this in detail as part of my doctoral thesis “Pandemic and Hospitality Industry - Indian Context Studies-2021” and was awarded a special recognition “Award of Excellence” by the panel. Based on this study I was able to estimate the correlations of the impact of Covid on the hospitality sector in India and was also able to do a sensitivity analysis of the rise and fall in cases that were affecting the sector at large. This study also enabled me to excel at my workplace and was able to contribute to my learning by blending it back into the organization’s strategy in mitigating Covid-related risks. It was another Oscar moment. India Book of Records | July 2022

Underweight at birth but born with a sharp intellect K
ids should be allowed to grow up at their pace. It is not wise to interrupt them unnecessarily, and if need be, parents should change themselves instead of expecting the children to change. Such is the philosophy of Dr. Sumedha Bajpai, whose little daughter – Shashvika Bajpai (Paakhi) did get a certificate of appreciation from the India Book of Records on May 18, 2022, for her amazing memory and sharp mind. Shashvika’s family lives in Mumbai, Maharashtra. Born on October 01, 2019, she was under-weight at birth and weighed only 1.7 kg. Being a premature baby, the first three months of her life were very difficult. Before her birth, the mother was in Surat, Gujarat, and used to recite Gita and Ramayana. Doctors had said that girls have more inner strength hence even if they are underweight, they soon become normal. The same happened in her case, that’s why Dr. Sumedha believes that the phrase Women’s Empowerment was technically wrong. Women are empowered from birth and they just need the right environment and good upbringing. Women don’t need further empowerment. At the age of 2 years and 7 months only, Shashvika was able to identify 7 figures, 17 body parts, 10 colours, 7 celebrities, 11 vegetables, the alphabet from A to Z, 6 flowers, 8 vehicles, 6 national symbols, 8 Animal Sounds, and days of the week. Also, she could recite A to Z alphabet and Gayatri Mantra and she could draw 6 parts of the body very easily. Dr. Sumedha has done a Ph.D. in Management from NIT Jaipur, and MBA from XLRI Jamshedpur. She is a trainer by profession, while her husband Mr. Pranjal Bajpai is the DGM at Union Bank of India. In the sixth month of pregnancy, a conference was to be attended in Bangkok, but the doctor had warned of

premature delivery, yet Dr. Sumedha decided to visit Bangkok. She tells that during the Covid period in March 2020, Shashvika unexpectedly started walking on her knees. The daughter was very mischievous from birth, whereas the 11-years-old son (Aaron or Pranshu is of a calm nature. Dr. Sumedha does not work full time so that the child can be brought up properly. She believes that 90 percent of the growth of a child takes place by the age of 4 years. Shashvika has the freedom to understand things in her own way. She paints the walls of the house, applies toothpaste on the sofa, and sprinkles sugar all over the house. The husband gets upset, but Dr. Sumedha says that after a while the child herself would stop doing it. The child should be allowed to make up her mind. Posters and a blackboard have been put up in Shashvika’s room for educational purposes. She is learning fast and can even read the lift numbers in reverse order. Dr. Sumedha says that a five-year-old child can learn five languages with ease. Every child is talented in some way or the other, and parents just need to be aware.

He downloaded the Sudoku app with the help of his father and tried to solve the 4 x 4 puzzle. He learned the concepts and very quickly started solving a variety of puzzles. His screen time is usually restricted. That’s why he gets little time to use the Sudoku app, yet he has excelled in his timing. Adhi has also shown interest in physical activities, and these days he is learning Tennis and Silambam. Now he has started writing fictional stories too. He has written a few stories and intends to publish them in the future. He always walks a step ahead of his age and is striving in various fields. His favorite pastime is reading books. Adhi aspires to become a bureaucrat like his father when he grows up. One of his desires is to master chess. Ms. Chandrika says that as a parent, both of us have always given the option to the kids to choose their area of interest. If they want to move up in an area, that’s fine, and we don’t mind if they want to change course. We have balanced our attitudes towards them as strict and friendly. When we have to put a stop to their request to anything, we have done it and if we have to handle it in a friendly manner, we have not stopped that as well. They know that they can’t get an easy way out with one of their parents always. We both have always been on the same page when we are parenting our kids.
