undertaken to create voter awareness for Assam Assembly Election, 2021, and executed under the leadership of Smti. Keerthi Jalli, IAS, Deputy Commissioner & District Election Officer, Cachar, Silchar.

The street rangoli on Silchar to Sourastro Mahasadak started from Dolu Market to Haticherra Tea Estate. The feat was achieved, on 14th March 2021, with the help of around 1500 volunteers from various organizations involving Para Military forces, SHG volunteers, NSS, NCC, NYKs, College & University students. The event started at 5 A.M. and was completed at about 4 P.M. on the same day, within a time frame of approximately 11 hours.

Talking about what inspired them to make this record, Smti. Keerthi Jalli, IAS, Deputy Commissioner & District Election Officer, says, “During any election awareness program, huge quantity of materials in the form of flex, paper, etc., are usually used. These practices ars adversely harming the environment. Hence, this time the District Administration decided to minimize the use of plastic and paper materi-
als in the election awareness programs and opted for street rangoli. This idea was not only environment friendly but also attracted the attention of voters throughout the district. Moreover, rangoli art is a traditional culture in India and was chosen to inspire female voters. For the same reason, more than 900 female SHG members participated in the record.” The road to success was not an easy one, as only
30-40 members amongst the participants were skilled, and they had to monitor the rest of the unskilled volunteers. It was a big challenge to manage and monitor a large group of the unskilled taskforce and to complete the task within a limited time frame. Also, the sheer length of Rangoli made the logistic process all the more difficult since the participants were to be placed correctly at the designated spot.
Events like this bring out the true spirit of humanity. One of the members of the District Administration narrates a touching incident, “A designated portion of the road was allotted to a group of artists. As soon as they finished their part of the stretch, they proceeded to the part where the process was moving at a slow pace to lend their helping hand. The help they extended to their fellow members was commendable, and because of this spirit of unity amongst the volunteers, the event was successful, and we could achieve the record.” Adjudicator Jitendra Kumar Jain was witness to this magnificent feat, he adds by saying, “This record promotes rangoli, which is an Indian tradition to welcome guests. It is based on the belief of ‘Atithi Devo Bhava.’ This record
promotes Indian tradition simultaneously creates awareness on the importance of the vote.” He further adds, “In this event, I witnessed the cooperation between Special Help Group of villagers and college students which portrayed

India Book of Records holder Narendra Sharma embarked on his journey to Ladakh on an Okinawa Praise, an electric scooter. It is for the first time that a rider reached Khardung La Pass in an electric vehicle. Narendra, by profession, runs an automotive media outlet

I love to explore the pristine beauty that India has to offer,” says Narendra. He started his journey with his friend Aashish Bharadwaj, from Gurugram and covered a distance of 1350 km to Ladakh. encountered harsh weather. As they began their journey, they rode at a temperature of 45 degrees centigrade, and as the altitude kept increasing, the temperature would drop drastically. “Snow and rain also accompanied us along the journey. Apart from the fluctuating weather, it was also the bad roads that we encountered. And the road became even more challenging with an electric scooter. But the quality of roads from Lamayuru to Leh was excellent, and every biker’s dream come true,” reminisces Narendra. The carrier of choice for this trip was also very unique, and for the very first time, someone attempted to cover the tricky roads of Ladakh in an electric vehicle. When asked why he chooses an electric scooter for the trip, he says, “EVs are getting popular in the country
however, not many people get convinced that electric vehicles are tough enough. I undertook this trip to prove to myself and the world that electric vehicles are reliable and dependable. The moment we reached Leh, it gave me a sense of pride as I was entering a pollution-free environment; with a Green Vehicle.” What Narendra attempted was not an easy feat to achieve. Knowing the conditions of the road, and choosing an electric vehicle is no easy decision. “Nobody had ever ridden to Ladakh on an electric scooter. This idea enticed and excited me. It was also my first time to Khardung La Pass, and I wanted to do it differently,” says Narendra about what inspired him for an EV.

Displays True Picture of Resilience & Commitment As we all know, where there is a Will there is a Way. This proverb has been proved right by 13-yearold; Merel Yashpal Das. She made the record for solving the 3X3X3 Rubik’s cubes 551 times while hula hooping non-stop for 4 hours; in Ahmedabad on February 7, 2021.
Talking about her inspiration, she says, “While browsing the internet, I came across a swimming record. That inspired me, and then I shared my idea with my parents and told them I want to achieve the same. Due to the pandemic, swimming activities came to a halt. So, I thought of achieving a record in this activity.”
Her perseverance was put to in her initial days of practice. She faced issues with concentration and coordination to solve Rubix cube while hula hooping. avankumar G. Giriyappanavar, IAS, Sub -Collector, Tiruppur, Tamil Nadu, has shown exceptional skill, during the pandemic, in raising public awareness amongst the people by achieving the record for making the ‘Largest Cloth Mask’ (measuring 42 feet x 42 feet). This record making initiative was undertaken by him to spread messages for a COVID safe election during the upcoming Tamil Nadu State Assembly Elections 2021.
Talking about this initiative, he says ‘The Election Commission of India (ECI) strongly emphasises the SVEEP Programme (Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation) to promote voter literacy in India. As an Electoral Registration Officer (ERO), I wanted to do something different with mass appeal. My team and I wanted to raise awareness about the ECI’s message of “Greater participation for a Stronger Democracy” and to convey the importance of
observing COVID-19 safety precautions, like wearing a mask, during the upcoming Tamil Nadu State Elections.’ The sheer size of the mask was a challenge in itself. Multiple pieces of cloth samples were combined and sewn together to make the huge mask. A 45 feet tall wooden frame was erected at the display location to hold the enormous mask, and the videographer had to evidently climb onto the terrace of a nearby building to capture its full view.
‘A feat of this magnitude would have been impossible to achieve without the help and support of others. The District Collector, Dr. K. Vijaykarthikeyan, IAS, was very supportive when the idea was proposed to him. He duly agreed to unveil the mask amidst his busy schedule. Also, the support extended by the Revenue Department team led by Tehsildar Ravichandran and Revenue Inspector Wilson was crucial in completing the mask on time’ said Pavankumar.
