As the year draws to a close and the world gears up for Christmas, in the cover story we bring to you the details of one of the world’s unique quizzes which took place aboard India’s largest aircraft carrier warship INS Vikramaditya. The first of its kind of quiz for school children was held under the aegis of the Indian Navy.

On the inside pages, meet a male gynecologist from Orissa, who has been fond of collecting different types of coins since childhood. He has a wonderful collection of rare new and old coins from around the world at his home, many of which he got through his patients who had some foreign connection.

Two young children from Bengaluru are taking Karnataka by storm with their abstract painting skills. Not only did they paint a school classroom with rainbow colours, but they also do paintings for many commercial companies and clients. On the other hand, a young woman in Pune came into the limelight by doing bridal makeup of many models in the shortest possible time.

There are many more interesting stories in this issue, like the one from a hotel management institute in Ranchi, where the students set a record by preparing hundreds of recipes of Jharkhandi Maduva Chhilka Rotis in record time.

You too can think of making a record by learning from these stories. Send us your thoughts on this email: emagazine@indiabookofrecords.in

It is a restructured version of the Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan launched in 2009. During the initial five years, the central government built around 90 million toilets in the country. The second phase of the mission aims to maintain the open defecation-free status and improve solid and liquid waste management. Along with this, work has also to be done to improve the lives of sanitation workers. The little abstract artists

The record for the youngest duo to paint an art room was set by Virat Karan and Chanvitha Sundari. The sibling duo from Bengaluru, Karnataka painted an art room of a Kidzee Montessori School in 3 hours covering a 712 sq ft area, thus creating a record under the India Book of Records.

Virat Karan (8 years and 6 months) and Chanvitha Sundari (3 years and 8 months) showed interest in painting as early as 5 months and 3 months of age respectively. Both of them started painting using their fingers and they never had any boundaries to paint. Both of them come up with varying concepts while they paint. Virat’s vision is to make everyone paint. The sibling duo travels across cities and villages to spread the word about art and make other kids paint along with them. They conduct workshops in Architecture colleges, old age homes, orphanages, etc. The kids believe that art is happiness and their dream is to drench every single soul in happiness.

Virat’s painting journey started in 2014 and Chanvitha’s in 2019. They were offered an opportunity to paint an art room for kids in Bengaluru for a Montessori School. This was something they had dreamt of for a long time. Kids painted the art room in 3 hours without a break, with the concept of “When it rains, it pours paint”. They represented concepts of rainbow, nature, river, lake, sea, forest, wind, rain, and all forms of nature in their purest form through painting. Every inch of the room was covered in paint.

Virat and Chanvitha are now working on different projects and they have clients across the globe. They have been covered by magazines and news channels since 2014. Virat is a futuristic artist and both the kids have been termed as the visionary artists and prodigies of our nation. They study at Trio World Academy, Bengaluru. They are awarded a scholarship from the school for their impeccable work.

Their mother, Architect Divya told the India Book of Records magazine, “Hoping for a better and a bright artistic world, these

little fingers have started working to bring in a change in this world. Their concepts vary from day-to-day activities to alien theories to predicting the future. As art has infinite scope, these kids have no boundaries for their imagination when they paint. As a parent, all we did was not stop them from painting or doing whatever they wanted to do.”

A gynecologist who collects coins

6 India Book of Records | December 2022

The record for collecting the maximum number of countries’ coins was set by Dr. Sadanand Panigrahi of Bhubaneshwar, Odisha. He has collected 2239 unique coins from 246 countries’ including 192 UN-recognized nations, 27 dependent countries, and 27 other territories of various denominations. In the process, Dr. Panigrahi, a gynecologist by profession who is currently posted at a government hospital in district Kalahandi of Odisha, created a record under the India Book of Records.

While talking to the IBR magazine, Dr. Sadanand Panigrahi said, “I was born on October 28th, 1965 in Berhampur, Ganjam of Odisha. I have been collecting coins since my childhood. I don’t know why I had some fascination for collecting different things like coins, stamps, cigarette covers, etc. When I was studying in 1st standard, I collected different types of copper coins from the British India era which were available with my grandparents. I had also collected different types of circulating coins of that period and had kept them in a small brass box which is still with me.”

He started collecting foreign coins when he came across his friends from different countries during his studies at a medical college. His first foreign coin was a one-rupee coin from Nepal which he got from a devotee in Sri Jagannath Temple of Puri in 1985. After joining in service, he continued collecting foreign coins through his friends, relatives, and persons who were visiting foreign countries. He collected coins from foreigners in different tourist places also. One of his friends, Mr. Rahul Kaushik from New Delhi, helped him a lot in possessing rare and odd-shaped coins. Mr. Rajender Maru, Chairman of Marudhar Arts, Bengaluru, also helped him by giving tips on arranging the coins in a systematic manner with a checklist that one can follow easily.

Dr. Sadanand Panigrahi started collecting foreign coins when he came across his friends from different countries during his studies at a medical college. His first foreign coin was a one-rupee coin from Nepal.

Dr. Panigrahi feels gratitude towards his friends and patients who helped him in getting rare coins. In spite of his busy schedule, he takes out time after 9 pm everyday, for this hobby of coin collection. “Verification and recognition from the India Book of Records have encouraged me a lot to strive for more and now I have collected coins from all the UN Approved Countries in the world. Tips of Mr. Krishna Kumar Gupta, the adjudicator from IBR also helped me in setting the record. I am truly grateful to him and also to the entire team of IBR, who remained in constant touch with me before and after the attempt.”

Coin collection, also called numismatics, is the systematic accumulation and study of coins and objects of similar form and purpose. Coin collection is one of the oldest hobbies in the world. With the exception of China and Japan, the introduction of paper money is for the most part a recent development. Hence, while paper money and other types of notes are collectible, the history of that form of collecting is distinct from coins and largely a modern phenomenon.

This year, when they released a poster on social media platforms, announcing the live bridal make-up, they received a tremendous response from aspiring girls. A few agencies and professional groups also approached and showed their interest in event partnerships. Ultimately, the couple decided to do it alone and made arrangements for a big hall, 50 to 60 models, costumes, jewellery, and cosmetics among other things. Their team arranged everything within a fortnight. Since Vrushali had earned a good name in the field of make-up, it was not difficult to arrange

models. A number of dynamic girls always wished to work with her. Most of the models were from Pune, while a few were from other places.

The record-setting attempt was made on October 12th, 2022. Five models could not turn up at the last minute, but there were enough candidates available, so the activity continued as per the plan. The adjudicator from the India Book of Records arrived and checked the models’ skin. The activity commenced at 1:30 pm and concluded at 2:30 pm. The jury checked the make-up and announced that Vrushali had made a new record for doing bridal make-up of 61 models in 60 minutes. Vrushali wants to see the expansion of Indian Make-up style in western countries. She has helped a lot of young artists by giving them the latest knowledge of make-up at a nominal fee.

Talking to the India Book of Records magazine, Mr. Bhupesh Kumar, Principal of IHMCT Ranchi said, “Known by various other names in different languages such as Madhua in Hindi, Ragi in Kannada, Nachni in Marathi, Nagli in Gujarati, Mandhuka in Punjabi, finger millet is equally popular among the tribes and citizens of Jharkhand. Hypertension Awareness Campaign

The record for the maximum number of doctors participating in a public awareness campaign on hypertension was set by Zydus Lifesciences Limited, Mumbai, Maharashtra. The online campaign was run across the country, wherein a total of 4303 doctors participated from February 14, 2022, to March 13, 2022. The activity earned recognition from the India Book of Records and Asia Book of Records simultaneously.

Hypertension is the leading cause of mortality, responsible for around 10 million deaths worldwide per year. Around 1.13 billion people worldwide suffer from hypertension (1 in 4 men and 1 in 5 women). Only 54% of people with high blood pressure are aware they have it. Only half of hypertensive patients are diagnosed. Hypertension is thought to be responsible for 62% of strokes. High blood pressure, also called hypertension, is blood pressure that is higher than normal. Human blood pressure changes throughout the day based on physical activities. Having blood pressure measures consistently above normal may result in a diagnosis of high blood pressure or hypertension. The higher the blood pressure levels, the more risk the person has for other health problems, such as heart disease, heart attack, and stroke.

Zydus Lifesciences Limited, Mumbai, Maharashtra approached doctors all over India and asked them to be part of the nationwide campaign to make people aware of the dangers of hypertension. A total of 4303 doctors from across the nation took part in this online awareness campaign giving their nod to spread the message to the patients and the common public. The month-long awareness drive proved beneficial to the people as the doctors guided their patients regarding the precautions and necessary steps to be taken, in case the problem arises.

Healthcare professionals can diagnose high blood pressure and make treatment decisions by reviewing the systolic and diastolic blood pressure levels and comparing them to levels

found in certain guidelines. The guidelines used to diagnose high blood pressure may differ from doctor to doctor. Some healthcare professionals diagnose patients with high blood

pressure if their blood pressure is consistently 140/90 mm Hg or higher. Other healthcare professionals diagnose patients with high blood pressure if their blood pressure is consistently 130/80 mm Hg or higher.

An awareness was generated around the problem as high blood pressure usually has no warning signs or symptoms, and many people do not know they have it. Measuring blood pressure is the only way to know whether one has it or not. High blood pressure usually develops over time. It can happen because of unhealthy lifestyle choices, such as not getting enough regular physical activity. Certain health conditions, such as diabetes and obesity, can also increase the risk of developing high blood pressure. High blood pressure can also happen during pregnancy. High blood pressure can damage arteries by making them less elastic, which decreases the flow of blood and oxygen to the heart and leads to heart disease. In addition, decreased blood flow to the heart can cause chest pain, also called angina.

A toddler with a sharp memory

Tanay Sayuj, born on August 26, 2020, in Palakkad, Kerala, got an appreciation certificate from the India Book of Records (IBR) for identifying 27 vehicles, English alphabet from A to Z with corresponding words, 14 fruits, 24 action words, 15 parts of the body, 27 professions and 66 logos at the age of 1 year and 11 months.

Tanay’s mother Ms. Rishika, while talking to India Book of Records magazine, said, “Like any other mom and dad, we used to show Tanay various things around and answer all his questions and doubts. We noticed that he was showing a lot of interest and curiosity in the logos of different items, from cars to milk cans that we brought home. It was then we decided to follow his interest and show him more of the popular logos. Initially, I showed him a few car logos when we traveled, logos of electronic items, shoes, and everything that came to our home.

I did not want to stop

Tanay loves to socialize with people. He always wants to surround himself with people of his choice. He likes to listen to music and sometimes sings along in his own way. He likes to explore colours.

She further said, “I use to read and do a lot of research to learn how a child’s brain develops and works, so we can provide more things and activities of his interest. It was during one such research that I came across the right brain education. It mentioned that the right brain, responsible for quick photographic memory, can be triggered using flashcards as a tool. We just wanted to introduce him to the method and we printed a few flashcards just to see if he was interested in them. To my surprise, he could easily grasp anything that I taught him. And I truly believe that every child has this innate ability and as parents, it is our responsibility to help retain them.”

Now he can identify almost 200 types of logos. There are amazing new things that these little kids teach us and all we have to do is open our eyes and ears to see and listen to every wonder that they have to show us. Instead of not answering or thinking that the child cannot understand, if we start to answer and acknowledge their needs and follow them, they can definitely teach you amazing things, added Rishika.

Tanay loves to socialize with people. He always wants to surround himself with people of his choice. He likes to listen to music and sometimes sings along in his own way. He likes to explore colours. He shows interest in books and loves to read. He loves playing with toy vehicles and never wants to come out of his dad’s car when it is parked at home. Tanay lives in Dubai with his dad (Mr. Sayuj) and mom but he was born in Kerala during the peak of the pandemic.

Fastest cycling by an individual

The record for being the fastest to cover 1000 km on-road cycling by an individual was set by Mr. G. D. Vishnuraam of Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. He did a cause-based cycle ride for a ‘Drug-Free India’ starting from Hyderabad, Telangana on October 28, 2022, and ending at Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu on October 30, 2022. The record has got a bright mention in the prestigious India Book of Records (IBR).

G D Vishnuraam (born on December 19, 1981) is an ultra cyclist, who has set various records in past too in the field of cycling and car driving. He told the India Book of Records magazine, “I attempted this 1000 km cycling record to create awareness around the growing menace of Drugs in our country. As a parent of a girl child, I am witnessing that the drug culture has changed a lot and affecting society at large. I believe that for the sake of the next generation, we have to teach our children the value of good life and living in a drug-free zone. Now drugs are being used in schools and colleges also, therefore I thought about creating awareness against the menace of drugs.”

Vishnuraam decided to start his nonstop cycle journey from Hyderabad to Coimbatore – covering a distance of 1000 km. In Hyderabad, the Cyberabad Police organized a big event involving more than 300 school and college students, who also took a Pledge to Say No to Drugs. He said, “I started cycling from Hyderabad International Airport on October 28th at sharp 4.45 pm, when the weather was pleasant. I crossed Kurnool (Andhra Pradesh) by midnight and reached Bengaluru city by 3 pm on October 29th. As the elevation to Bengaluru was a little high, it was a bit tough for me. Being the weekend, the traffic was comparatively low in Bengaluru (Karnataka). Moving forward towards Andhra Pradesh, I crossed Hosur and then reached Krishnagiri. The distance between the two towns was around 55 km and it was raining which was affecting my speed. There I took a small break to change my clothes and shoes. Resuming my ride again, I reached Coimbatore at 6.35 am on October 30th. I had planned to cover the 1000 km

distance in 40 hours or so, but pushing my limits further I avoided sleep or rest on the way, to complete the attempt in just 37 hours and 42 minutes.”

In Coimbatore, his family and friends were waiting for him eagerly. Coimbatore City Police Commissioner, Mr. V. Balakrishnan, IPS, joined him from the Coimbatore Airport along with the Airport Director Mr. Senthil Valavan. Together they cycled to the police commissioner’s office to support the awareness drive against the problem of drugs in our society. Vishnuraam’s daughter Raksha (10 years old) also cycled in the last leg of 15 km. Vishnu says the record became possible due to the support from his family.

Vishnuraam has set a few other records too, including a record of maximum distance covered in a car in 24 hours (2152 km), maximum distance covered on a bicycle (623 km), fastest on-road bicycling for 100 km by an individual (2 hours and 55 minutes), fastest man to cover the Golden Quadrilateral in a car (Chennai – Kolkata – Delhi – Mumbai – Chennai) covering a distance of 5853 km in 82 hours and 20 minutes in his Toyota Fortuner.

A kid with exceptional abilities

Srij Aayush Vengala of Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, is appreciated by the India Book of Records for solving 3 puzzles beyond his age; identifying 7 colours, 60 animals, numbers from 1 to 10, English alphabet, reciting 4 rhymes, singing a song; placing alphabet in order from A to Z and numbers from 1 to 10, playing basketball, covering 40 metres distance in just 26 seconds, and also climbing staircase independently at the age of 2 years.

His mother, Dr. Vengala Jhansi Rani, a Cardiologist, and father, Dr. Vengala Anil Srinivas, also a medical professional currently living in Berlin, Germany, proudly said that Srij had been a curious child since his birth (September 2, 2020). In the early months, he started grasping things quickly, imitating a few Telugu songs from the movie Srivalli and Pushpa. Then he showed interest in gaining knowledge and remembering things, i.e., mimicking English songs, alphabet, numbers, etc.

Srij is 2 years and 3 months old now, and he identifies A to Z letters, and 1-10 numbers, besides recognizing all shapes, mimicking the ‘Baby Shark’, ‘Wash your hands’, and ‘Wash your face’ rhymes.

“When he started walking, I just switched on the lights, and the very next evening he switched on the lights himself. He used to perform things that we normally do. He recalled weeks and months of the year and antonyms of many words. We are always excited to know what he is going to do next. He has surprised us every time with his capabilities. He is a little boy, but his brain isn’t. So, we thought to tell the world that our child had unique qualities. Hence, we approached the India Book of Records,” said Dr. Jhansi.

The parents started noting down every unique activity of their child. Dr Jhansi shared a list of his activities with the India Book of Records, which goes like this: Srij started stacking bowls in reverse mode and developed an interest in solving wooden puzzle games at the age of 17 months. He was fond of stacking blocks, boards, and rings. He had solved three years plus wooden puzzles, and zigzag puzzles when he was 22 months old. He even solved some puzzles for the very first time perfectly.

Srij is 2 years and 3 months old now, and he identifies A to Z letters, and 1 to 10 numbers, besides recognizing all shapes, mimicking the ‘Baby Shark’, ‘Wash your hands’, and ‘Wash your face’ rhymes. He can follow the commands like hi-fi, hi, bye-bye, sit, stand, etc. The parents could not capture all the videos. He can sing ABCD letters on his own, plays the basketball game, and can solve three-plus year games and animal shapes. He is also familiar with multiple types of animals and birds.

Holding the stocks of maximum companies

The record for holding the stocks of the maximum number of companies was set by 53-year-old Mr. Joy Paulose of Thrissur, Kerala. He held the stocks of 1,736 listed companies as per his latest statement of holding dated October 18, 2022. He set this record under the India Book of Records.

Talking to the India Book of Records, Mr. Paulose said, “During my Chartered Accountancy, I used to do internal audits of share trading houses which helped me gain basic knowledge of the stock market. I utilized online information available in the public domain, to achieve my childhood ambition of owning a good bouquet of listed companies’ shares on my own. Currently, I own shares in 1736 companies. The stocks owned are in accordance with various strict stock trading disciplines. For example, the investee company needs to generate a minimum ROE (return on equity) of 8 percent and above that, the promoter stake should not be less than 45 percent, and the cost price of the share well within the 52-week high and low price, book value needs to define the cost price in order to avoid overvalued stocks.”

He further stated, “Maintaining my overall portfolio size, the current average number of shares in each company is 644 shares. The SME (small and medium enterprises) stocks can grow exponentially and be the blue-chip company for tomorrow. I was able to create the above portfolio within a short span of 2.5 years, even though the trading account was created in 2017, it remained dormant till June 2021. I have been choosy with the selection of stocks. The stocks were chosen according to the Piotroski score.”

It is to be noted that the Piotroski score is a discrete score between zero and nine that reflects nine criteria used to determine the strength of a firm’s financial position. The Piotroski score is used to determine the best value stocks, with nine being the best and zero being the worst. The Piotroski score was named after Chicago Accounting Professor Joseph

Piotroski, who devised the scale, according to specific aspects of company’s financial statements. Aspects are focused on the company’s accounting results in recent time periods (years). For every criterion met, one point is awarded; otherwise, no points are awarded. The points are then added up to determine the best-value stocks.

Mr. Paulose said, “My holding covers almost all sub-sectors (169 sectors) of the Indian industries with more weightage to Information Technology (IT), Pharma, Finance, and Chemical segment as I want to participate in the growth story of India and my small investment is a token of appreciation to them. I still believe in the growth and prosperity that the Indian Economy can generate going forward. I still analyze the top 200 performers both gainers and losers and update my records every day, which will allow me to sail smoothly and profitably through market volatility.”
