Longest continuous drift by a car

The record for the longest continuous drift by a 4-wheeler was set by Sirish Chandran of EVO India Magazine driving the Mercedes-AMG A 45 S running Vredestein tyres. The record was set at the NATRAX wet skid pad in Pithampur, Madhya Pradesh, on November 3, 2022, where the AMG drifted continuously for 10 minutes and 23 seconds. This was the longest drift ever done here.

A record such as this had never been attempted in India and with no guidelines in place, the India Book Records (IBR) team had to consult with its global affiliates to certify such a record. In the absence of a frozen lake, records such as these are only possible on a wet skidpad and the best one is located at the NATRAX, best known for its 11.3km high-speed oval. To hold a drift for five whole minutes, a lot of practice was required. Then the long and complicated sequence of activating drift mode followed.

The wet skid pad at NATRAX is split into two surfaces. On the inner 25-metre diameter is the slippery basalt surface which is 5 metres wide while the outer 10-meter wide loop is the more grippy asphalt. Both the tracks are continuously watered so there’s a film of water. Sirish was holding the drift but as he fed in more power to maintain the drift, the A 45 S picked up speed and that pushed the car wide of the inside loop. Sirish’s problem was the inside loop, which was just five metres wide and that left no margin to play around. Instead of picking up speed gently, he slid out aggressively to the outside loop, flat on the throttle to ensure the outside rear wheel kept spinning and thus maintaining the drift.

“But it’s here that this little monster shines,” says Sirish. “I’m on the limiter in second, super-aggressive with the throttle, giving the car everything, working all 415 horses, and she’s pulling absolutely incredible four-wheel drifts with the tyres howling

vocally. Setting the record took only a few minutes but behind the scenes, it took hours and hours of work in planning, testing, practising and formulating strategy. The India Book of Records adjudicator Dr Antim Kumar Jain had permitted three attempts at the record. There was also the problem of heat. We were attempting the record at noon and the scorching temperatures plus the tyres channeling away the water was forming dry patches leading to varying grip levels through the lap.”

Ultimately, the record was established! “This is what the A 45 S has been engineered for. Low-speed, precise drifts are one thing, but to sustain high-speed donuts, that’s where the chassis excellence, steering precision, and that seat of the pants feel come through. This is why I absolutely adore this car, and this is a proper torture test, both for the car and me. The gravitational forces were killing me. My neck, my arms, my body, oh god this was hard work,” added Sirish.

Largest traditional folk dance

The record for organizing the largest traditional Oraon folk dance performance is set by the Isai Adiwasi Mahasabha of Chhattisgarh, wherein a total of 1785 dancers, between the age group of 18 - 60 years, gathered at the St. Xavier’s School Ground, Ambikapur in Surguja district of Chhattisgarh to create the record on November 8, 2022. The participants included women, girls, boys, and men. The record attempt was reviewed and recognized by the India Book of Records (IBR).

Advocate Anand Kumar Kujur, General Secretary of Isai Adiwasi Mahasabha, while talking to the India Book of Records (IBR), said, “We wanted to set a record of the largest Oraon folk dance performance at a single venue. The attempt was to preserve, showcase and pass on our rich cultural heritage to the upcoming generations. Tribals in Chhattisgarh traditionally

perform Naach Gaan (dance song) at the akhara (dance venue) on various occasions according to the season. Oraon is a major tribe of Chhattisgarh. A large population of the Oraon tribe is Christian, who is maintaining the cultural heritage of their ancestors.”

Tribals have inherited a rich culture from their forefathers, which has passed down from generation to generation in the tribal community for centuries. There is a particular dance song for each of the 12 months of the year based on different seasons. Oraon is one of the typical folk dances of the Oraon tribe found in the states of Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Orissa, and West Bengal.

The mode of the performance was simultaneous singing, dancing, and drumming in a uniform and synchronized

pattern. The participants were counted by using a camerabased artificial intelligence (AI) system brought in from Pune, Maharashtra. To crosscheck the numbers, double counting was done with a bar code scanner placed at the entry gate of the venue and each participant passed through the scanner.

Mr Kujur, an advocate at the Chhattisgarh High Court, has been part of a previous record. His experience in setting a record guided this dance attempt. A series of meetings were conducted to execute this event. All the participants were trained and directed well in advance. Since it was a cultural event, therefore no politician or government official was invited. However, the

distinguished guests were from the tribal community itself. Mainstream media was not invited because the community wanted it to be recognized by the India Book of Records first, before any public exposure. The intention was to keep it purely as a cultural event.

The attempt was reviewed by Samir Das, the Adjudicator from the India Book of Records. He announced the record and handed over the certificate and the medal to the organizers. Neelam Toppo, Coordinator, Isai Adiwasi Mahasabha also played an important role in the smooth execution of the attempt.

Awareness drive on Osteoarthritis

Osteoarthritis is the most common form of arthritis, affecting millions of people worldwide. It occurs when the protective cartilage that cushions the ends of the bones wears down over time. Although Osteoarthritis can damage any joint, the disorder most commonly affects joints in the hands, knees, hips and spine. To spread awareness about the condition, Xennex, a division of Emcure Pharmaceuticals Ltd of Pune, Maharashtra, engaged medical professionals across the nation. In the process, the company established a national record under the India Book of Records (IBR).

“The record for the maximum number of doctors creating awareness on Osteoarthritis was set by engaging doctors from all parts of India between October 12, 2022, and October 20, 2022. The healthcare professionals created awareness among their patients and the general public about

bone health,” said Satish Kumar, Marketing Manager, Emcure Pharmaceuticals Ltd.

People were made aware of the symptoms of Osteoarthritis, which can usually be managed, although the damage to joints can not be reversed. Staying active, maintaining a healthy weight and receiving certain treatments might slow the progression of the disease and help improve pain and joint function. Osteoarthritis symptoms often develop slowly and worsen over time.

Signs and symptoms of this condition include: pain - affected joints might hurt during or after movement; joint stiffness might be most noticeable upon awakening or after being inactive; joint might feel tender when light pressure is applied to or near it; loss of flexibility – the patients might not be able to move their joint through its full range of motion; they might feel a

The record for the maximum number of doctors creating awareness on Osteoarthritis was set by Xennex, a division of Emcure Pharmaceuticals Ltd of Pune, Maharashtra. The medicos across the nation talked about bone health during the campaign.

People were informed that Osteoarthritis occurs when the cartilage that cushions the ends of bones in the joints gradually deteriorates. Cartilage is a firm, slippery tissue that enables nearly frictionless joint motion. Eventually, if the cartilage wears down completely, the bone will rub on the bone. Osteoarthritis has often been referred to as wear and tear disease but besides the breakdown of cartilage, Osteoarthritis affects the entire joint. It causes changes in the bone and deterioration of the connective tissues that hold the joint together and attach muscle to bone. It also causes inflammation of the joint lining.

grating sensation when using the joint, and might hear popping or crackling; bone spurs or extra bits of bone may feel like hard lumps, can form around the affected joint; and swelling might be caused by soft tissue inflammation around the joint.

Xennex experts emphasized that elderly people should pay more attention to the wellbeing of their joints and bones. Factors that can increase the risk of this disease include older age, obesity, joint injuries, repeated stress on the joint, bone deformities, and certain metabolic diseases.

The modern sedentary lifestyle has contributed to the rapid rise in the number of cases impacted by diabetes. It is estimated that today more than 62 million Indians suffer from diabetes and the numbers are projected to touch 100 million by 2035 if not provided proper treatment. Taking into account the number of diabetes cases and lack of awareness of the complications, it is important to take measures such as early screening of diabetes, learning the effects of high blood sugar levels on health, and timely assessment of heart fitness,

because the longer one has diabetes, the more is the risk of cardiovascular disease.

The gathering was given necessary tips at the diabetes checkup camp which was conducted by a team of doctors and paramedical staff of the hospital. It was explained that the burden of diabetes is high and increasing globally, In developing economies like India, it is mainly fueled by the increasing prevalence of overweight and unhealthy lifestyles. The estimates in 2019 showed that 77 million individuals had diabetes in India, which is expected to rise to over 134 million by 2045. Approximately 57 percent of these individuals remain undiagnosed. Type 2 diabetes, which accounts for the majority of the cases, can lead to multiorgan complications, broadly divided into microvascular and macrovascular complications.

The Coimbatore Police, Hindustan Group of Educational Institutions, and Sparkling Starz jointly set the record for the maximum number of women bikers rallying for traffic safety in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India, wherein the participants rode from Hindustan College to Codissia ground in a bid to raise awareness on the use of helmets and proper riding gear, say NO to drugs and women’s safety, on November 19, 2022. The activity also earned a proud place in the Asia Book of Records (ABR).

The bike rally was purely for women to promote anti-drug awareness and the use of helmets for road safety. There were a total of 1128 women riders in the rally. All of them were wearing helmets. All the participants were of 18 years or above age. The theme of the bike rally was – ‘If one woman in a family gets educated, the whole family gets educated.’

The bike rally started at Hindustan College at 8:30 am and ended at Codissia Ground, covering a distance of 8 km in 45 minutes. The whole event took 1 hour and 45 minutes. V Balakrishnan, IPS, Commissioner of Police, Coimbatore City, and Dr N S Mony, Consultant Psychiatrist of Balaji Neuro Psychiatric Center graced the event with their presence.

The gathering was told that the Coimbatore Police have been taking a number of measures to keep trafficrelated problems at a minimum level. The motorists in the city now get real-time updates about traffic and road blockades with the help of the ‘roadEase’ app introduced by the city police in collaboration with Google Maps.

Mr Balakrishnan, Commissioner of Police, said, “We have taken up the initiative with the support of Google Maps to ease

traffic flow in the city through the roadEase app. If there is any traffic congestion at any place or blockade due to road works, accidents, or special events like festivals and processions, the information would be updated on a real-time basis on Google Maps, which will help the commuters.”

“Coimbatore has become the second city in the state, after Chennai, to introduce the traffic app. Traffic police update the information about any congestion on the roads through the app specifically developed for the purpose, which is verified and approved by a police officer, following which people get the information. The traffic police personnel are being trained to use the app,” he said.

Vijay Kumar Dhatwalia, head of data products at Lepton, the firm which has developed the app, said that as many as 16 cities across the country have adopted the technique, which would reduce the time of commuters. Chandigarh was the first city in the country to implement it in 2021. All the women who took part in the bike rally were given certificates of participation and gift vouchers too.

13,133 camps for Diabetes Awareness

India is often referred to as the ‘Diabetes Capital of the World’, as it accounts for 17 percent of the total number of Diabetes patients in the world. There are currently close to 80 million people with Diabetes in India and this number is expected to increase to 135 million by 2045. As the world observes the World Diabetes Day on November 14, Torrent Pharmaceuticals of Gujarat established a record for the maximum number of sites used for Diabetes awareness during the week. The pharma company organized a total of 13,133 medical camps across the country, wherein the medical representatives educated the patients one-on-one to spread awareness about the condition from November 9, 2022, to November 21, 2022. The Asia Book of Records recognized the exemplary attempt.

The company, with the aim of setting a record, organized the maximum number of awareness camps pan India with the help of the medical representatives already posted in every part of the country. The patients who visited the medical camps were apprised of the symptoms and precautions to keep Diabetes at bay. The camps were held in almost every state and Union Territory, including Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, West Bengal, Orissa, Bihar, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Kerala, Himachal Pradesh, and many other places. Medical experts from the respective areas were also engaged to make the initiative a remarkable success.

Experts at the camps explained that Diabetes is a medical condition that is caused due to insufficient production and secretion of insulin from the pancreas in case of Type-I Diabetes and defective response of insulin for Type-2 Diabetes. Under normal body circumstances, blood glucose levels are tightly controlled by insulin, a hormone produced by the pancreas. Insulin lowers the blood glucose level. When the blood glucose elevates, for example after eating food, insulin is released from the pancreas to normalize the glucose level. In patients with Diabetes, the absence or insufficient production of insulin causes hyperglycemia.

Delhi to Mumbai on a single fuel tank

The record for maximum distance covered on one tank of fuel by a car was set by Bunny Punia of Delhi. Driving the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara Hybrid, the attempt started on November 30, 2022, from Dhaula Kuan, Delhi at 6.30 am after filling the fuel and sealing the fuel filler cap. The trip ended on December 1, 2022, at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, Mumbai, Maharashtra, at 7.17 pm after covering 1436 km from the car’s 45-litre fuel tank. The attempt created a national record under the supervision of the India Book of Records.

Maruti Grand Vitara Strong Hybrid claims to be a fuel-efficient mid-size SUV. It can deliver up to 27.97 kmpl. Delhi to Mumbai route included scenic Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Maharashtra. The main aim of this mileage run was to test the new Grand Vitara to its maximum technical potential. Continuing its journey from Delhi, the team 91Wheels entered Rajasthan via Ajmer and Bhilwara. Bunny was happily playing with the three different screens inside the cabin. The HUD was displaying the battery regen activity, the speedometer was set for the trip meter, and the infotainment screen was set for ECO-assist thus helping to generate more fuel economy. The average cruising speed was maintained at a good 65 kmph mark.

Day 1 ended at Ratanpur (Rajasthan). The total distance left for Mumbai from the night stay was only 640 km and the estimated fuel tank range was hovering around 884 km. The next day, Team 91Wheels reached Vadodara completing the 1,000 km mark. One of the tyres got busted due to the team’s negligence; hence they were forced to arrange a new wheel. After crossing the famous Narmada Bridge, Mumbai was hardly 300 km away. Inching towards the destination i.e. Mumbai Airport; the Grand Vitara and team 91Wheels had completed 1300 km.

Traffic was consistently notorious on the Vadodara-Mumbai highway. All thanks to the strong hybrid system, the displayed economy had reached 35.4 kmpl once again. The car was showing 2 bars of fuel left. On reaching Mumbai Airport, the India Book of Records examined the details. Team 91Wheels

had completed 1436.1 km from Delhi to Mumbai in a time of 25h 57m.

Largest Anaemia Awareness Tree

Anaemia is a condition in which the number of red blood cells or the haemoglobin concentration within them is lower than normal. Haemoglobin is needed to carry oxygen and if you have too few or abnormal red blood cells or not enough haemoglobin, the capacity of the blood to carry oxygen to the body’s tissues will be decreased. This results in symptoms such as fatigue, weakness, dizziness and shortness of breath, among others. The optimal haemoglobin concentration needed to meet physiologic needs varies by age, sex, smoking habits and pregnancy status.

The team PP26+ of Dr Reddy’s Laboratories, Hyderabad, Telangana, set a record for the Largest Tree Creative Formed Towards Anaemia Awareness, wherein a tree was set up at the company’s headquarters. The tree measured 10 feet in height, and 8.33 feet in width. A total of 18,000 leaves in the shape of blood drops were created for the tree, each representing a doctor’s name to promote awareness about Anaemia on November 26, 2022 – Iron Deficiency Day. The attempt got recognition from the Asia Book of Records.

Iron deficiency and iron deficiency anaemia are estimated to affect up to one-third of the global population, yet despite the serious consequences and high prevalence of iron deficiency, it is still an under-recognized condition. Iron deficiency can affect anyone, but it is most prevalent in pre-menopausal women, pregnant women and children under five. Common symptoms include fatigue, pale skin, brittle nails, craving for non-food items such as clay and ice, and an inability to concentrate. In children, iron deficiency can significantly impair cognitive and motor development.

According to Ashique Alex, Senior Manager, Business Development, Scientimed, the Tree for Anaemia Awareness was planned to celebrate Iron Deficiency Day (November 26). Since it was the largest creative tree carrying names of doctors from across India, it set a record. The doctors involved in the campaign were mostly gynaecologists. The activity

was supported by Scientimed. The theme for this year’s Iron Deficiency Day was ‘Listen to your body’. One of the goals of Iron Deficiency Day is to educate people about the importance of healthy iron levels and to encourage people to seek help from healthcare providers, if needed.

Symptoms of iron deficiency are not always obvious, and the goal of the campaign is to provide people with the tools to listen to their bodies, whether they are feeling tired, breathless, or in a mental fog. The consequences of iron deficiency can be severe, even in the absence of anaemia; underlying health conditions can be exacerbated, and individuals often see an overall decline

in general health and well-being. In most low and middle-income countries, anaemia is a major cause of child and maternal mortality.

The most common causes of anaemia include nutritional deficiencies, particularly iron deficiency, though deficiencies in folate, vitamins B12 and A are also important causes. Anaemia is a serious global public health problem that particularly affects young children and pregnant women. World Health Organisation estimates that 42% of children less than 5 years of age and 40% of pregnant women worldwide are anaemic.

Interlocking the toy bricks

The record for making the maximum number of Lego models was set by Emil Yohan Shinu (born on October 6, 2016) of Konni, Kerala (currently residing in Newcastle, United Kingdom). The child built 27 Lego models including an excavator, frog, fish, tree, apple, big swan, car, airplane, robot, castle, sailing boat, house, elephant, right angle tower, jeep, stage, garage, camera, drone, house, robot, spiderman, ironman, fountain and stairs in 9 minutes and 49 seconds, at the age of 6 years and 22 days. His name is proudly added to the India Book of Records (IBR).

Lego Education solutions ignite student’s natural curiosity and help them develop essential 21st-century skills. Several categories are available based on different themes. Lego is a line of plastic construction toys that are manufactured in Billund, Denmark by The Lego Group. Lego consists of variously coloured interlocking plastic bricks accompanying an array

connected in many ways to construct objects, including vehicles, buildings, and working robots. Anything constructed can be taken apart again, and the pieces reused to make new things.

Emil started to build Lego models at the age of 3 years and 6 months. He began with one small Lego Classic Model and was interested to build more models. However, he is crazy to develop models from his own ideas. He started with the Classic and now expanded to Lego City, Minecraft, Creator, Technic, and Speed Champions. He spent most of the time building Legos. The special thing is that, he innovates his own models rather than the models shown in the Lego instructions guide.

He also likes to play cricket and loves drawing. He also watches cartoons like Blippi, Vlad and Niki. Currently, he is a class one student at Brighton Avenue Primary School, Newcastle, United Kingdom. He gets absolute attention and care from his mother and father. His father Shinu Yohannan is a Chartered Scientist working in Turbo Power Systems, UK. His mother Sneha Sam has done the Master of Computer Application course.

Parents shared with the India Book of Records magazine that Emil’s favorite menu is Masala Dosa and Idli, however, he likes fruits like Jackfruit and Mangosteen. He has many ideas about everything, which is a specific character. It is also reflected in the Lego Building activities. He takes photos of the Lego models that he makes and uploads them on his Facebook page - ‘The Lego Champion’. His parents think the kids should be motivated to become good human beings.

Passion for Hula Hooping

Darshita Bhadani was fond of playing with hula hoop rings since childhood. She started hula hooping at the age of two and a half. Since then it has been her favourite activity. When she was twelve and a half years old, she started taking this game seriously and did a lot of research on the internet about it. She has been playing with the hula hoop for about two hours every day. One day she came across a video of the India Book of Records on YouTube, which inspired her to make her own video and send it for evaluation. Finally, on November 18, 2022, she got a certificate of appreciation from the IBR. She spun the hula hoop non-stop for 2 hours, 30 minutes, and 53 milliseconds. A hula hoop is a toy ring made of plastic that is swung around the waist, hands, or neck. Children’s hula hoops are usually 70 cm in size, while those for adults are around 100 cm.

Darshita lives in Giridih town of Jharkhand. Her father, Sanjay Bhadani, is a real estate businessman, while her mother, Ms Chanchal Bhadani, runs a hotel and bakery business. Her younger brother Kanishk studies in 3rd standard, while she herself is in 7th standard at Saluja Gold International School, Giridih. On how she got the idea of playing with a hula hoop, Ms Chanchal told the India Book of Records magazine that as a child, Darshita once went to Bengaluru where she saw her aunt’s children playing with a hula hoop, and then she also bought the rings. She likes skating and dancing in Bollywood style. In school, she also participates in poetry recitation, debate, and public speaking programs.

Ms Chanchal said that her daughter has a habit of doing everything with full dedication and 100

percent involvement. When she learns anything new, she tries again and again until she understands it perfectly. If she fails a few times, she tries to find out the reason and attempts again with all her might. This was her method even while playing with the hula hoop. The good news is that Darshita loves to eat healthy food and is a strict vegetarian. She has hula hoop rings in many colours and sizes. She always carries her hula hoop rings everywhere.

Ms Chanchal, who is involved in social service, says that she teaches her children to be self-reliant. She believes that if children do something wrong, it should be explained in private, not in front of everyone. Instead of saying you are wrong, they should be told what is wrong and what is right. After this, the children themselves opt for the right things.

Magical hand gestures of Bharatnatyam

Born on January 23, 2017, at Koorkenchery of Thrissur district in Kerala, Suryagayathri M Sooraj of Koorkenchery, Kerala, has received appreciation from the India Book of Records for the performance and recitation of 52 Asamyukta and Samyukta hasta mudras (single and double hand gestures) of Bharatnatyam, and Dhyana shloka mudras along with the recitation of their names in the shortest time (32 seconds and 52 milliseconds) at the age of 5 years and 9 months and 24 days, as confirmed on November 16, 2022.

Suryagayathri’s biggest encouragement comes from her father, Sooraj M Jayaraj, a flight dispatcher, and her mother, Ms Unnimaya Sooraj, MSc, BEd, who is currently a housewife, and her 8-year-old brother, Suryathejus Sooraj. From the tender age of 3 years, Suryagayathri has been under the tutelage of RLV Divya Nikhil, who has fiercely supported her in her classical dance journey. Her guru (teacher), RLV Divya Nikhil also holds a record from the India Book of Records. As a kindergarten student at Lemer Public School, Nattika, Thrissur, Suryagayathri has immense support from her teachers who always encourage

temple, Kanadi Devasthanam, at Peringottukara in Thrissur district. Cultural arts are considered divine at the Kanadi Devasthanam. The temple has a Kalapeedam, where over 1000 students learn cultural arts free of cost. This early exposure has made Suryagayathri enthusiastic about classical dancing. Her aunt, Ms Chandni Raghunathan, is also a renowned classical dance teacher in Dubai, which has further sparked Suryagayathri’s interest in classical dancing.

Different hand gestures are used in Bharathanatyam. Hasta mudras (hand gestures) are primarily classified as 28 Asamyukta Hastas (one-hand gestures) and 24 Samyukta Hastas (two-hand gestures). Each of the hastas can be used to denote various thoughts, ideas, and objects. There are various shlokas (verses) from the ancient texts that enumerate the usage of the hastas. These are called Viniyoga Slokas. Apart from the suggested Viniyogas, the dancer may innovate, if found necessary, to convey the appropriate message to the audience.

Suryagayathri’s debut performance was the Krishna Bhajan at the Dakshinamoorthi Sangeetha Nritholsavam when she was just two and a half years old. When asked about encouraging such talents in children, her mother, Ms Unnimaya Sooraj told the India Book of Records magazine that rather than forcing children into such extracurricular activities, it is important to let them explore and choose what they really want to do so that they can be successful in their pursuit. She also said that rather than only words of encouragement, parents should also spend some quality time with their children and be involved with their learning to further motivate them.
