Dear Readers,
This year has started with many interesting records. That’s why in this issue you will get to read more stories than ever before, in which every colour of life is interwoven. The cover story is derived from the Goonj Mahotsav being held in the state of Jharkhand, where this time, 5000 Chhau folk dancers created history. This grand event took place at Silli Stadium. Also, an unbelievable story has come from Kolkata, where a visually impaired marathon runner successfully completed the Tata Steel Run, that too without touching his buddy runners.
We are proud to share with you that four of the exceptional children, honoured by the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, on the 74th Republic Day, were the record holders in the India Book of Records. These young individuals were awarded the highest civilian award in the country, the Pradhanmantri Bal Puraskar 2023, for their outstanding skills and accomplishments.
No less interesting is the story of two young brothers from Mumbai, Maharashtra, who have made a worldwide name in the mental calculation without using paper, pen, or any gadget and have proved their numerical competence by winning gold medals in many international mathematical competitions. Meanwhile, an art teacher from a Pune-based school surprised the education world by creating 75 portraits of Lokmanya Tilak in 75 different mediums and techniques. He kept doing this painting work quietly in his spare time.
It is very possible that these record-makers will inspire you to do something different.

Group writing of Bhagavad Gita shlokas
Shikshan Mandal, Karad (Satara), Maharashtra, set the record for the fastest writing of Bhagavad Gita shlokas by a group in the memory of Late Shri Anant Shridar Bhagwat, wherein 740 students, clad in yellow uniform, wrote the entire Bhagavad Gita one shloka at a time. Each student wrote one shloka on a piece of paper provided by the Shikshan Mandal, in two minutes at the Tilak High School ground on December 3, 2022. The group’s attempt made its way to the India Book of Records (IBR).
It is learned that an International Bhagavad Gita recitation competition is held every year in memory of the Late Shri Ananta Sridhar Bhagwat under the aegis of the cultural department run by the board of education, Karad. This year, on the occasion of the centenary, a program of handwritten Bhagavad Gita was organised. A group of 740 students from the four secondary level schools participated in the record-setting activity, where they wrote all the verses of the Bhagavad Gita in
a span of two minutes. It is pertinent to know that Lord Krishna had given the divine knowledge of Gita to Arjuna through a total of 700 verses on the Ekadashi date of Shukla Paksha of Margsheesh month.
The innovative initiative was dedicated to Shri Anant Shridhar Bhagwat, who taught Bhagavad Gita in schools for more than 70 years. That is why this event was organized in his memory. The institute’s teachers had been working hard for a few months to make the programme a big success. The activity was planned to coincide with Gita Jayanti (December 3, 2022). As many as 740 students from Sheth Ramvilas Kisanlal Lahoti Kanya Prashala, Mangalwar Peth, Karad; Tilak High School, Mangalwar Peth, Karad; SMS English medium school, Mangalwar Peth, Karad, and Atmaram Vidya Mandir, Oglewadi, Karad, participated in the activity.
The record for the fastest writing of Bhagavad Gita shlokas by a group was set by Shikshan Mandal, Karad in the memory of the Late Shri Anant Shridar Bhagwat, wherein 740 students wrote one shloka each in 2 minutes.
Institution’s President Balasaheb Kulkarni, Vice President Anga Parandkar, Secretary Chandrashekhar Deshpande, Joint Secretary Rajendra Latkar, President Dr Anil Hoodedar along with other dignitaries and parents were present on the occasion. The adjudicator of the India Book of Records handed over the certificate of the record and the medal to the officials of the Board of Education, Karad.
Karad, a town in the Satara district of Maharashtra, is 320 km from Mumbai and 159 km from Pune. It lies at the confluence of the Koyna River and the Krishna River known as the Priti Sangam. The two rivers originate at Mahabaleshwar, which is around 100 km from Karad.
75 portraits of Lokmanya Tilak
The record for ‘creating and having a collection of a maximum number of portraits of a national leader in different mediums’ was set by Suresh Wamanrao Wargantiwar of Pune, Maharashtra. He created 75 portraits of Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak using 75 unique mediums to mark the occasion of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’. His attempt brought him fame in the form of a national record under the India Book of Records.
Suresh Wargantiwar (53) is an Art Teacher and Supervisor at the New English School, Ramanbaug, Pune. The school, established in 1880 by VK Chiplunkar with Bal Gangadhar Tilak and MB Namjoshi, is managed by The Deccan Education Society. “Since the 75th Foundation Day of our school and the Aazadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav coincided, I thought it appropriate to create 75 portraits of Tilak in 75 mediums. My idea was to celebrate the occasion in a different way and I should do something for the school, society, and nation through my subject. This project was made in this spirit. This was my small effort, a way to give back to society,” Suresh said.
He used water colour, poster colour, pencil shading, canvas painting, collage, aluminium, shadu mati, fiber, coloured twine, coloured paper, nib painting, mehndi painting, emboss, dry grass, tree leaf, daal, rangoli, and scores of other mediums to create the pictures of the national leader. The portraits have been created in a variety of ways, using various materials and different techniques. Some of the portraits are prepared using different papers, i.e. newspaper, magazine pages, drawing paper, Japanese ivory card, drawing paper, handmade paper, mount board, cardboard, leather texture paper, etc.
A completely different kind of paper is also used, namely the ‘Bhojpatra’. There are trees in the Himalayas, the bark of which was used in writing the mantras in ancient times. The age of this kind of paper is longer than other papers. One portrait was made of groundnut shells. Kesari newspaper was founded by Lokmanya Tilak, so one portrait has been made from a collage
of clippings of Kesari newspaper. Tilak had started Ganeshotsav, so an image was created using the word Ganesha.
‘Swarajya is my birthright, I will have it’ -- this was the slogan of Bal Gangadhar Tilak. Hence one digital painting was created using this sentence. Besides, Tilak linked many institutions, states, and countries together, so one of the pictures has been included in the form of a puzzle. To express Tilak’s attachment to art, one of his drawings was depicted as a Rangoli. Based on the Swadeshi slogan of Tilak, a portrait of him has been made from pieces of khadi cloth.
Tilak was very fond of nature. Whenever he got time, he used to visit Sinhagad for rest, contemplation and study; hence a picture of him has been made through the leaves of trees found there. To show that Tilak’s ideas are still valuable, beads have been used in one of his portraits. Some of the artists who supported the project included Vijay Dikshit, Mahendra More, Trimbak Pokharkar, Shishupal Panke, Leena Wargantiwar, Vidya Jiture, Akshay Shahapurkar, Anil Suryvanshi, Anil Balvant, Radhika Malekar, Anant Khairnar, and Mugdha Gohad.
Protecting nature with eco-bags
The record for ‘Maximum non-woven Biodegradable Bags distributed across multiple cities’ was set by X-Plosiv Events & Promotions Pvt. Ltd., wherein a total of 55,000 nonwoven biodegradable bags were distributed across 28 cities, covering 13 states in India, under the ‘Change A Habit, Change the World’ campaign by Axis Bank. The campaign started on August 17, 2022, and concluded on September 24, 2022. The initiative has now got into the India Book of Records pages, as the idea of green bags was pushed by Nitin Bhardwaj, the Founder and Director of X-Plosiv Events & Promotions.
Nitin and his wife Pallavi Bhardwaj manage the day-to-day functioning of the company. How the Axis Bank came into the picture? On this, Nitin said, “We proposed the Axis Bank to proceed on the Go Green line by distributing environmentfriendly bags. Initially, we considered the bags made of used clothes, jute, etc., but ultimately the non-woven biodegradable bags got the bank’s nod and a detailed campaign plan was chalked out. It was Neeraj Raina, Marketing Manager, Delhi-NCR, Axis Bank, who finalized the proposal of biodegradable bags.”
Axis Bank launched the ‘Change a Habit, Change the World – Say No to Single-Use Plastic’ campaign to raise awareness against single-use plastic. The bank distributed non-woven bags to citizens at select locations in Jaipur, such as Char Diwari, Chora Rasta, Johari Bazar, Kishanpole, and Bapu Bazar. Additionally, it gave out stickers of ‘Say No to Single-Use Plastic’ to local shopkeepers to reinforce the message on plastic pollution. The campaign was carried out across 28 cities, including Delhi, Lucknow, Ambala, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Pune, Surat, Rajkot, Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Bhopal, Nagpur, Bhubaneswar, Guwahati, Patna, Ranchi, and Siliguri. Extending the celebrations of the 75th year of Independence, the Bank took up the responsibility of creating awareness among citizens about behaviors that affect our environment.
Biodegradable plastics do not release carbon, methane or any other harmful pollutant as a result of which they have the ability to break down, safely and relatively quickly into the raw materials of nature. Earlier also, Axis Bank, had introduced biodegradable cards thereby offering its customers a simple

way of contributing towards environment-friendly payment solutions. The cards were made available on select gift card products and were acceptable at all domestic merchant outlets and online portals.

He has already completed the yoga therapist course from the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga (MDNIY). Side by side, he is also practicing as a Yoga Therapist, Naturopath, Vastu, and Astrology expert. This is not Acharya Nitin Bhardwaj’s first record, earlier also in September 2020, he had created a record under IBR/ABR for organizing the Multi-lingual Global Online Ramlila, as that was the lockdown period and physical events were not possible.
The Fastest Human Calculator
Jinansh Vimesh Dedhia, the 11-year-old Fastest Human Calculator, studying at Billabong High International School, Thane, hails from Mulund, Mumbai. He did multiple onerous and abstruse calculations like addition, multiplication, division, square root, and calculation of calendar dates accurately in both 1-minute and 5-minutes timelines from 9 am to 6 am at the Shishuvan School, Mumbai, on December 3, 2022, setting a record under the India Book of Records and the Asia Book of Records simultaneously. The attempt was made in the presence of Ms Seema Manikothe, Adjudicator of India Book of Records.
“Jinansh was just 3.6 years old when he started getting attracted to numbers. Any game or puzzle that had numbers would attract him the most. That’s when we thought of introducing him to mental calculations. It all started with playing the abacus first, and then learning of calculations. After a few months of training, we made him participate at National Abacus Competition held in Gujarat where he not only performed well but came first. This was followed by his first international medal in the mental calculation in the World Education Games (Australia) at the tender age of 4.6 years in 2015. Give him any date from 500 years between 1600 to 2100 century and he will tell you the day for that date,” said his father, Vimesh Dedhia.
At the age of 5.7 years, he was the youngest contestant to represent India at World Mental Sports Olympics held in Las Vegas, USA in 2016. In the same year, he participated in the Turkey Open Mental Calculation Championship and again won a gold medal in the open age category. In 2016, he was invited to Malaysia’s literacy movement to demonstrate his calculating skills. He taught Rubik’s Cube to many students at Malaysia University. In routine, his practice hours are for 2 hours and during championships, he practices for 6 to 7 hours every day. At the age of 6, he made his first television appearance on Hollywood’s famous show The Little Big Shots, starring Steve Harvey.
At the age of 6.6, he was the world’s youngest participant in Junior Mental Calculations Cup (Germany). He was among the top 40 Mental Calculators across the globe at Mental Calculation
World Cup Germany 2022. He owns two previous records, one for solving 97 Calendar Dates in a minute and another for solving 10 tasks of 5 digits multiplied by 5 digits (56895 X 49975). He won two gold medals at Turkey Open Championship for Mental Calendar Dates held in Istanbul and also won two gold medals at World Education Games (Australia). He has been felicitated by Chief Minister of Maharashtra Shri Devendra Fadnavis as well as by the Governor of Maharashtra Shri C H Vidyasagar Rao and Shri
Bhagat Singh Koshiyari. He has been the recipient of the prestigious Kutch Ratna Award and Midday Nav Ratna Award.
Jinansh was invited to India’s Hunarbaaz Desh Ki Shaan, starring Mithun Chakraborty, Karan Johar and Pareeniti Chopra. All of them were stunned by his calculating skills. He is a two times World Record holder, not only this, but after rigorous practice, he kept attempting and creating 54 India Book of Records and Asia Book of Records each, making a total of 108 records in his name. The records were made in different categories right from solving 144 mental calendar dates, to solving the multiplication of 20 digits x 20 digits whose answer has 40 to 41 digits to the division of 10 digits by 5 digits and many more. Besides calculation, he is equally interested in playing badminton, basketball, video games and watching television. His goal is to continue bringing laurels to the nation.
The Youngest Human Calculator
The record for being the Youngest Human Calculator was set by Shanay Vimesh Dedhia of Mumbai, Maharashtra. He did multiple calculations in addition and multiplication accurately in both 1-minute and 5-minute timelines from 8 am to 1 am at a young age of 8 years, 9 months and 28 days at Shishuvan School, Mumbai on December 4, 2022, setting two independent records under the India Book of Records (IBR) and the Asia Book of Records (ABR). The child has been studying at Billabong High International School, Thane.
Everyone has an inspiration to look up to. Shanay had one such, that too in his own house – his elder brother -- Jinansh. Shanay was a tiny tot who would see his brother keep doing something on an abacus, solving cubes, etc. He would also try playing with an abacus and cubes; however, he was more inclined to cubes initially. That’s when his parents thought why not train him for cubes. Although looking at his tender age it was a challenge for them. He was less than 3 years when the training for cubes began and by the age of 3.6 years; he successfully solved types of cubes and thus became the youngest Cuber of India.
Seeing his amazing cube-solving skills, he was invited to one of the universities of Turkey to showcase cubing talent at the age of 3.8 years. Since then he has been a winner at various cube championships in India. Slowly and gradually his interest started developing toward numbers. With his amazing response to the training his parents made him participate in a National Abacus Competition, where he proved himself by winning a gold medal. With this win, he was very motivated to learn and practice more with the uttermost sincerity.
“We made him participate in one of the largest mental math championships held in Australia. It came as an absolute surprise that he won the event with 2 gold medals for our country. The joy on his face was priceless. Following this, he was awarded the most prestigious Midday Navratna Award. Further, he won another gold at World Education Games, having participants from 120 countries with 2.5 million participants. He has been appreciated by the Governor of Maharashtra, Bhagat

Singh Koshyari for his achievements in the field of mental calculations,” tell the proud parents, Ms Jinal and Mr Vimesh Dedhia.
Since his brother is an inspiration to him, Shanay also prepared himself for one year with rigorous and dedicated practice to attempt for records. After spending 5 hours on attempts he successfully registered 15 India Book of Records and 15 Asia Book of Records, having a total of 30 records in his name. Now he is the band ambassador of Billabong High International School- Thane. He loves to spend his time playing badminton and cricket and making drawings. He is very fond of dogs and is very sporty with extreme energy. His goal is to become a scientist. He also looks forward to winning many accolades for the nation in the field of mental calculations.
Drone with a Birthday Card
The record for the largest birthday greeting card flown using a drone was set by DroneAcharya Aerial Innovations Ltd, Pune, Maharashtra. The startup conducted a Drone Show at United Sports Badminton Court, Pune, wherein they lifted an 8x12 feet large greeting card to a height of 20 feet using a hexacopter heavy liftoff drone showcasing the skill and experience of the pilots who manually controlled the drone. The show was conducted on September 16, 2022, to celebrate the 72nd birthday of PM Narendra Modi, thus entering into the pages of the India Book of Records (IBR) and Asia Book of Records (ABR) simultaneously.
The team involved in the attempt was young and energetic, and majorly composed of DroneAcharya’s trained drone pilots, business development executives along with graphic designers who put their heart and soul into the record-making attempt. The team built the whole banner design from scratch, and the banner was strategically tied to the drone with the help of ropes. The ABR Adjudicator, Dr Chitra Jain declared the completion of the record and handed over the certificates and the medals to
Chief Drone Instructor Amit Takte and the Founder & Managing Director Prateek Srivastava.

Drones are an around $500 million business in India, including sales and drone services, and they are broadly divided into defence and civilian uses. The government of India banned the import of non-Indian drones last year, paving the way for a wave of drone manufacturing in the country, as well as the use of drones for leisure and other purposes by people. Drones have utility in multiple domains such as Agriculture, Energy, Mining, Infrastructure, Oil and Gas, Smart Cities, Urban Planning and Water Resources.
DroneAcharya Aerial Innovations is an enterprise drone solutions company, now listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE). The dance ranges from celebrating martial arts, acrobatics, and athletics performed in festive themes of folk dance, to a structured dance with religious themes. The costumes vary between the styles, with Purulia and Serakeilla using masks to identify the character. The stories enacted by Chhau dancers include those from Ramayana, Mahabharata, and the Puranas.
Kumar Abhishek, the coordinator of the festival, said, “The Chhau dance is traditionally an all males troupe, regionally celebrated particularly during spring every year, we are now training women also at the Silli Academy. The dance is amazing and brings together people from diverse socio-economic backgrounds in a festive and religious spirit.”
Webinars on Sustainable Development
Engineers can play an important role in sustainable development by planning and building projects that preserve natural resources, are cost-efficient and support human and natural environments. A closed-loop human ecosystem can be used to illustrate the many activities of engineers that support sustainable development. This aspect was the highlight of the 106 hours long webinars conducted by The Institution of Engineers (India), Tamil Nadu state centre and its 16 local centres between April 23, 2022, and November 30, 2022, across Tamil Nadu. The attempt got recognition from the Asia Book of Records (ABR). The webinars were conducted
across 17 institutions with the participation of 6,233 students on the topic ‘Sustainable Development of the Nation - The Role of Engineers’.
In one such webinar, the experts mentioned that India’s achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) over the last few years was really laudable, as the Government has been ensuring that people at the ‘bottom of the pyramid’ get the benefits that are due to them and the benefits flow to them through the trinity of Government initiatives - Jan Dhan bank account, Aadhaar unique identity number and mobile phone.
The financial inclusion through 310 million accounts, 120 million gas stoves provided, the sanitation drive which built nearly 60 million toilets across the country and the Ayushman Yojana to cover the health needs of the poor.
According to the 2019 global Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) of UNDP, India lifted 271 million people out of poverty between 2006 and 2016. India’s health coverage has also helped reduce poverty and improve livelihood. That number alone is mind-boggling and it speaks to the success of targeted interventions at a level and scale of ambition that is without parallel in any other country in the world. The result has been that today, India is the fastest-growing large economy in the world. It grew 7.9% during the fiscal year 2015-16 and 7.1% during 2016-17. Growth has brought an increased volume of revenues, which have permitted the Government to sustain a high level of social spending that directly targets poverty.
The role of Engineers is seen everywhere in the world. Indian Engineers have made India, an ‘epicentre’ of innovative solutions towards the SDGs, both frugal innovations and the most advanced technological and digital-based solutions. The country is also the epicentre for achieving the SDGs globally with international partnerships. One can see already that ‘India is not shying away from that responsibility and is bearing that
responsibility with a great sense of seriousness, understanding of the implications for the world and achievement of SDGs.’ The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), also known as the Global Goals, were adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015 as a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity by 2030.
The Institution of Engineers (India) is the largest multidisciplinary professional body of engineers, established in 1920 with its Headquarters located in Kolkata. The Institution has been serving the engineering fraternity for over a Century with its national and international presence through 125 Centres spread all over India, 6 Overseas Chapters, 6 Fora and an Organ namely Engineering Staff College of India (ESCI), Hyderabad.
The Institution of Engineers (India), Tamil Nadu state centre and its 16 local centres set a record for the longest duration to conduct webinars on Sustainable Development of the Nation. The total time taken was 106 hours.

Mass screening for bone mineral density
The record for ‘maximum patients screened and made aware of Osteoporosis’ was set by Alembic Pharmaceuticals Ltd of Mumbai, Maharashtra. The camps were conducted at multiple locations across India, wherein people above the age of 40 years were screened for bone mineral density through a BMD machine and made aware of Osteoporosis in the month of October 2022. The grand exercise created a record for the company under the India Book of Records (IBR) and the Asia Book of Records (ABR) simultaneously.
Saurabh Singh, Product Manager, Alembic Pharmaceuticals Ltd, Mumbai, said, “The screening-cum-awareness camps were held at 157 places in India, where a total of 506 patients were identified with the disease. Each camp was headed by a qualified physician. Vitamin D and Calcium tablets were provided free of cost to the visitors and the patients at the camps. Alembic Pharma is known for producing, Osteofit HD – a medicine specifically for this disease. We displayed multi-lingual posters related to the disease, and for that, we translated the message into a total of 14 regional languages.”
The people visiting the camps were told by the experts that Osteoporosis is a silent disease and it is revealed only when the bone gets fractured. Therefore, timely screening for BMD (bone mineral density) is suggested for everyone. Humans are born with about 300 soft bones. Bones are living tissue that have their own blood vessels and are made of various cells, proteins,
and minerals. This structure enables them to grow, transform and repair themselves throughout life. During childhood and adolescence, cartilage grows and is slowly replaced by hard bone. Some of these bones then later fuse together, resulting in an adult skeleton with 206 bones. The skeleton serves as the structural framework for the body by supporting soft tissues and providing attachment points for the tendons of most skeletal muscles.
People were told at the screening cum awareness camps that the skeleton protects the most important internal organs from injury. For example, cranial bones protect the brain, vertebrae (backbones) protect the spinal cord, and the rib cage protects the heart and lungs. Most skeletal muscles are attached to the bones, when they contract, they pull on bones to produce movement. Bone tissue stores several minerals, especially calcium and phosphorus, which contribute to the strength of bone. Bone tissue stores about 99% of the body’s calcium.
Medical experts present at the screening camps made patients aware of Osteoporosis. It was told that primary Osteoporosis is more common and is generally age-related, affecting 70-80% of all patients with this condition. Secondary Osteoporosis is caused by certain medical conditions or medications that can cause bone loss, increase fracture risk, directly or indirectly affect bone remodelling, or interfere with the attainment of peak bone mass in younger individuals.
The record for ‘maximum patients screened and made aware about Osteoporosis’ was set by Alembic Pharmaceuticals Ltd. Screening camps for BMD were conducted at multiple locations across India.

The text is divided into three books with aphoristic teachings on virtue, wealth and love, respectively. Considered one of the greatest works ever written on ethics and morality, it is known for its universality and secular nature. Its authorship is traditionally attributed to Valluvar, also known in full as Thiruvalluvar. The Kural
text is among the earliest systems of Indian epistemology and metaphysics.
The Kural is traditionally praised with epithets and alternative titles, including “the Tamil Veda” and “the Divine Book.” Written on the foundations of ahimsa, it emphasizes nonviolence and moral vegetarianism as virtues for an individual. In addition, it highlights truthfulness, self-restraint, gratitude, hospitality, kindness and so forth, besides covering a wide range of social and political topics such as king, ministers, taxes, justice, forts, war, the greatness of army and soldier’s honor, the death sentence for the wicked, agriculture, education, abstinence from alcohol and intoxicants. It also includes chapters on friendship, love, sexual unions, and domestic life. The text effectively denounced previously held misbeliefs that were common during the Sangam era and permanently redefined the cultural values of the Tamil land.

Harmony Vegetable Curry
The Blind Relief Association Nagpur’s Mundle English Medium School got into the India Book of Records (IBR) on December 25, 2022, by setting a record of preparing 5000 kg of 'mixed vegetable'. The attempt also marked the silver jubilee year celebrations of the school. The Samarasta Bhaji, a delightful combination of carefully selected vegetables and authentic Indian spices, in approximately 4 hours, under the able guidance of celebrity chef Vishnu Manohar. The ‘bhaji’ was later distributed free of cost to all the students and their family members, school staff members, charitable organisations and local visitors. A total of 1000 students participated in the activity.
The entire process was a zero-waste activity, as the peels and scrapped portions of vegetables were converted into compost. Samarasta means harmony i.e. a peaceful existence that unites people in spite of their diversities. Similarly, Samarasta Bhaji was a blend of different vegetables having different flavours and nutritive value, but when they come together, they turn into a sumptuous food giving a feeling of satiety. It was prepared in harmony by the students, teachers, parents, committee members and alumni of the school, thus giving the message of togetherness, teamwork and cooperation.
Ms Shilpa Dongre (Supervisor), told the India Book of Records magazine that the school aims at making children replace unhealthy food with healthy options and reinforce healthier eating habits. Students acquainted the visitors with the nutritive
value of 50 different vegetables, which were on display on the ground. An array of charts provided insight to children on the art of arranging, decorating and presenting food in an aesthetic way. Cultural events by students, musical performances by alumni of the school, School Band performances, the School Choir, and activities related to art energised the atmosphere. The school extended gratitude to Chef Vishnu Manohar and his team.
The event was supported by various organisations like Bharat Vikas Parishad (BVP) and the Rotary Club of Mihan Nagpur. The event was organized under the able guidance of Makarand Pandharipande, Chairman of The Blind Relief Association of Nagpur (TBRAN) and the members of the managing committee. It became successful due to the hard work done by Dr Rupali Hingwe, Headmaster, Ms Megha Padhye, Headmaster (Primary Section), and the administrative and teaching staff apart from the students.
The cooking process began at the midnight and the dish was served in the morning the next day. All the students, staff, and visitors were asked to bring tiffin boxes on December 25th to get a free parcel of the ‘harmony vegetable curry’. The organisers also distributed it to the inmates of all major orphanages in the city. Chef Vishnu Manohar said, “For the first time hundreds of kids were involved in the cooking process. They brought different vegetables from their home. Only organic spices were used to prepare the dish. Thus we gave the message of harmony and unity through this initiative.”
The record for “Maximum students help in cooking the ‘Mahabhaji’ with zero-waste” was set by Mundle English Medium School, Nagpur, wherein 1000 students prepared the 5000 kg Mahabhaji in 4 hours under the guidance of celebrity chef Vishnu Manohar.

The record for the highest number of calls to a customer infoline number on a single day was set by Aries Agro Limited of Mumbai, Maharashtra. A total of 87,270 farmers from across India participated and dialed the customer infoline number of the organisation for a spot contest. The numbers were registered on the software and the winners were rewarded by the organisation on November 27, 2022, the 53rd Foundation Day of Aries Agro. The activity created a record under the India Book of Records in the presence of its adjudicator, Seema Manikothe.

with the permission of the Maharashtra State Government. The undergraduate programme for BPT was the initial course. The institute now imparts undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral courses in physiotherapy apart from offering physiotherapy and rehabilitation services in a holistic, comprehensive and scientific manner to the patients. The organisation aims at creating an inclusive society where the skills and talents of differently-abled individuals are accepted and recognized. The MGM Awarathon 2022 brought the problem of child abuse into the limelight. It was expressed that violence against children is widespread and remains a harsh reality for millions of children from all socio-economic groups in India. Both girls and boys in India face early marriage, domestic abuse, sexual violence, violence at home and in school, trafficking, online violence, child labour and bullying. All forms of violence, abuse and exploitation have lifelong consequences on children’s lives. Exact data on violence, abuse and exploitation is not sufficient, but overall the nation is becoming increasingly aware of violence against children, especially sexual abuse. Several cases that may have earlier gone unnoticed are now being reported. We all need to come together to #ENDviolence against children.
Digital pledge against Diabetes
The record for ‘maximum physicians and patients pledge to support Diabetes awareness initiative’ was set by Aareen Healthcare Pvt Ltd. of Ludhiana, Punjab. A total of 2972 doctors and 6381 patients participated and signed a digital pledge on a portal to support and spread awareness about Diabetes. The Campaign DIA-BEAT-EASE was launched on World Diabetes Day and it ran from November 7 to 21, 2022. The campaign earned a record for the company under the India Book of Records (IBR).
Aareen Healthcare planned the pledge-taking campaign against Diabetes on November 7 to 21, 2022, to mark World Diabetes Day (WDD). The organising team approached general physicians, mostly MDs in Medicine, across the country to engage them in this mega-awareness drive to educate the patients and the public at large. The campaign teasers were sent to the doctors on their email and also their WhatsApp numbers. The medical fraternity was introduced to the drive through a campaign briefing card and they were persuaded to spread awareness and commit to the cause. The doctors were also involved in an awareness drive through the in-clinic educational survey. The campaign was named as ‘Dia-Beat-Ease – Education to protect tomorrow’.
Ms Rajvi from 6Sigma Healthcare, a professional medical marketing firm that managed and coordinated the whole activity for Aareen Healthcare, told the India Book of Records magazine that the doctors were informed that their commitment was necessary to create a new record for this social cause. They were briefed in advance that if a maximum number of physicians and patients take the pledge to support Diabetes awareness, the initiative might get published in the India Book of Records.
A special portal (www.aarlifeibr.com) was developed for this purpose and the company representatives were deputed the task of getting the pledge done from the doctors with a simple click on the portal. The teams clicked pictures and created small video clips of the doctors taking the pledge. This process was a mandatory step for submitting proof of the activity to the IBR team. The same activity was repeated with the patients also. The doctors were given a certificate of participation by Aareen Healthcare.
India is often referred to as the ‘Diabetes Capital of the World’, as it accounts for 17 percent of the total number of Diabetes patients in the world. There are currently close to 80 million people with Diabetes in India and this number is expected to increase to 135 million by 2045. In this scenario, understanding diabetes is the first step toward managing and preventing it. The awareness campaign initiated by Aareen Healthcare was a step in this direction. Ms Kiran Kaur Jandu, Adjudicator from the India Book of Records, was present at Aareen Healthcare’s Ludhiana office in Punjab to verify and announce the completion of the record.
The glory of a longdistance swimmer
The record for a ‘non-stop swimming marathon by a female quadragenarian’ was set by Ms Sukhjit Kaur (born on Nov 24, 1973) of Dombivli, Maharashtra. She performed non-stop swimming at the New Wayale Sports Club, Kalyan, Maharashtra for 14 hours on September 27, 2022, starting at 9 am and ending at 11 pm. She covered 1246 laps of a 25-metre pool (which comes to 31,150 metres), at the age of 49 yrs and 26 days. The entire attempt was observed by two qualified observers. The attempt brought her name into the most reputed India Book of Records (IBR) and the Asia Book of Records (ABR) simultaneously.
Sukhjit Kaur is a 49-year-old long-distance swimmer from Maharashtra, who made headlines way back in December 2007 also, at the Senate Royale National Masters Swimming Championships, held at Andheri Sports Complex. On the second and final day of this swimming championship, she emerged as the star performer. Apart from winning the freestyle 100m, 200m, and 50m in record-breaking timing, Sukhjit ended in all with six golds, which included two medleys and freestyle relays. She has been a long-distance swimmer and to top it all, she played for Bombay University in water polo and volleyball and represented Maharashtra in triathlon.
Sukhjit Kaur, a single mother of an 11-year-old boy Jasbeer Singh, wanted to break a 2014 record of 12 hours of non-stop swimming. For that, she called a Coach in Nagpur during the period of lockdown. As things proceeded, she finalized the date to make an attempt on August 15, 2022, but for some reason, it did not happen. Then she made it to the New Wayale Sports Club, Kalyan on September 27, 2022. Being an international player, she is privileged to use the New Wayale Sports Club facility without any charge. Breaking the previous record, she swam non-stop for 14 hours. Sukhjit dedicated the record to her departed mother. Her father had been in defence service.
Long-distance swimming is distinguished from ordinary swimming in the fact that the distances involved are longer than are typically swum in pool competitions. When a given swim calls more on endurance than on outright speed, it is more likely to be considered a long-distance swim. On the other hand, ultra-long-distance swimming is sometimes referred to as
marathon swimming. The minimum distance that constitutes a marathon swim has dramatically shortened over time. Different organizations adopt various minimum distances. The swimming marathon events at the Olympic games have a distance of 10 km. Long-distance swims tend to fall into one of the two categories -- swims in which the start date and start time are chosen by the individual swimmer (often called solo swims), and swims that involve a group start.

EV expedition in subzero temperature
The record for maximum distance covered by an electric vehicle (EV) in 24 hours at sub-zero temperature was set by Mahindra XUV400 EV. The drive started on December 27, 2022, at 10.57 pm from Kyelang, Lahaul Spiti in Himachal Pradesh. The attempt concluded on December 28, 2022, at 10.57 pm at the same place after covering a total distance of 751 km. The EV car expedition, conducted in sub-zero temperatures at an average speed of 50 kmph, entered into the prestigious India Book of Records.
Given the cold and dangerous conditions in the high Himalayas of Lahaul, the expedition team had taken a very precise approach and selected the safest patch to drive the car. They selected the Keylong Petrol Pump as the main point where the charging station was set up and the car went up to Darcha Bridge and came back. It did multiple laps around these two points to cover the maximum distance in a day. Since this was a continuous 24-hour exercise, 4 drivers, including Pawan Kumar, Brijesh Kumar, P Thangarajan, and Manigandan R, drove the car in shifts.
“The first driver was Pawan and he drove the car through the night till morning 7 am. Night driving in the mountains is difficult because of the terrain. Being an experienced driver from Himachal Pradesh, he was most suited for the driving challenges at night. The car however performed beyond

expectations, with the comfort and mileage it provided in these harsh conditions. For Brijesh and Thanga, the aim was to get the best mileage in the daytime, however, this being the peak tourist season in Himachal; they also had to face traffic on the roads. Manigandan, who did the last few laps, had to ensure that we were safely driving post sunset and maximizing the distance,” said Ms Yukti Mital, Founder and CEO of Simplifly Sports Marketing Solutions LLP, Manali.
The danger of black ice on the road persists through the valley at night and in shadow areas, the team had to ensure that such patches were avoided hence driving had to be precise. Mighty Himalayas are beautiful but equally dangerous, the area also had challenges of shooting stones and rock falls. The plan was to avoid the roads which witness such mishaps often.
The team of Simplifly Sports, which organized the entire record-setting attempt, ensured that a charging point was set up in advance and an on-ground team was available for 24 hours straight, taking care of drivers and their needs. The on-ground team consisted of Aditya Pande, Shivam Saurav, Shivi Baijal, Sachin Sharma, Jay Mishra and Mohit Raj Kapoor. The team was headed by Aditya for operations and Shivam took care of all the lap details.
“Dorje Upasak and his team at the petrol pump were extremely helpful throughout the 24 hours and ensured that all our technical requirements were met. Apart from the above, a team of technicians from Mahindra & Mahindra was also present, who were there to study the performance of the XUV400 in such harsh conditions. The result? Performance of XUV400, first EV from Mahindra & Mahindra performed beyond expectations covering 751 km in 24 hours in sub-zero temperatures,” said Yukti, who coordinated this expedition along with her partner Prashant Bhatt, adding, “Actually, the concept of sub-zero was thought by us.”
Turning textile waste into art
Anhad, a design house run by designer Ishita Singh of Sangareddy, Telangana, is gaining headlines for a noble cause. The fashion designer from NIFT Hyderabad has been training women from the villages of Telangana since April 2022. Her concept of upcycling fabric waste and creating new products has got her a lot of accolades. On the occasion of the 75th Independence Day as an ode to the country, she created a handmade art piece of our national bird – the peacock -- using 13 kg fabric scrap in a 13ft x 13 ft size with 214 colours and fabrics. The art piece was unique, as it made a record for the ‘Biggest handmade peacock made of fabric scrap’ under the India Book of Records.
Designer Ishita Singh turns textile waste into face masks, home accessories, bags, and art pieces. Karoai is her other venture. At the Aakruthi Vastra hosted by the Crafts Council of Telangana (CCT) in Hyderabad, one of the stalls that caught visitors’ attention was ‘Karoai’. The label Karoai specialises in accessories made by upcycling textile waste. “The word ‘Karoai’ is of Punjabi origin and means ‘to embellish’. Since the line of

products intends to give new life to old textiles and embellish them, I thought this would be an apt name,” said Ishita, whose primary label Anhad has dressed celebrities like actor Genelia D’Souza and a host of other textile and fashion enthusiasts for past two decades.
Ishita Singh further said, “Karoai is very close to our heart. A dream project for us as a brand, we are recycling fabric and denim wastes and creating custom-made products for home and office spaces. The crux of this initiative is to provide employment to single women. We are creating home products and fashion accessories that are stylish and affordable for a larger audience. We are customizing products by recycling and developing a niche market in the industry by ways of exclusivity and quality. All products are 100% recycled.”
Ishita Singh was honoured with the Global Achievers Award in 2021 for her achievements in the field of fashion and the home industry. The award is given to recognize and honour promising visionaries, innovators, and entrepreneurs in multiple sectors. The largest handmade peacock design was verified and appreciated by Rammohan Reddy, the Adjudicator of the India Book of Records, who handed over the certificate and the medal to Ishita Singh.
Over the last decade the term ‘upcycling’ has been coined and worked into the discourse of sustainability efforts. More and more fashion designers are turning to the concept of upcycling. It first appeared in William McDonough’s book, Cradle to Cradle (2002). The term has a number of definitions and practices and it has mainly been used in connection with fashion and textiles. Upcycling can be defined as a recycling approach where ‘waste’ -- textile leftovers that would usually end up in landfill or incineration -- is used to create products with a higher retail value than traditional recycled products.

A toddler who rides a bicycle
Yaaran (born on July 21, 2020), a toddler from Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu has been appreciated by the India Book of Records for riding a bicycle on a road for 8 minutes and 6 milliseconds at the tender age of 2 years and 4 months only. “It was his mother’s idea to get a balancing cycle. He started showing interest in cycling at the age of 1 and a half years. We bought him a bicycle when he was at the age of 2. It was really tough to find a cycle suitable for a 2-year-old child. It’s a rare thing,” said his father, Ganesh Pandy.
The child loves to play with toys like a toy train, dump truck, and micro cars -- mostly automobiles, and shares his toys with all of his friends. Pandy told the India Book of Records magazine that Yaaran goes to the park during the day and evening to play with his friends. If you ask about his learning capabilities, then he is a quick learner. He can learn or unlearn any habit within a span of two days. His mom has restricted his screen time to 60 minutes only. He wants to do everything by himself. He always learns from his mistakes and will not repeat a mistake again. He does not give up easily and is quite adamant by nature.
The child’s eating preferences are praiseworthy, as he prefers healthy eating - mostly fruits and toasted vegetables. Curd is his all-time favourite item. The kid is a sort of introvert right now, as he does not mingle with new people easily. Most of the time he wants to remain around his parents.
On asking that from where he learned about the India Book of Records, he said that he is fond of searching the Internet in his free time. One day he found a few videos on Google, where kids were featured for their achievements, and then they decided to apply for Yaaran’s achievement.
Both the husband and wife are into business, but they spend most of their quality time with the family. Family is always their first priority. On parenting, Pandy said, “As a parent, we should offer our kids a quality life, healthy food, teach them good manners, self-respect, and love for others.”
It is important to know that, unlike bicycles for adults; children’s bikes are not sized based on the frame height or length. Instead, they are offered in sizes based on wheel size. Although children who are taller for their age may be able to size

Rishi Patel also aspires to become a big name in the field of Tabla. On his YouTube channel, he has uploaded two recent videos of Tabla Accompaniment with O Rangrez song, and 2 Kaydas and 2 Tukdas in Teentaal. The Kayda is a cyclic form in performance, Tabla players are usually performing in one of two modes: cyclic or cadential, with cyclic being the more common. The practice of Kaydas fortifies the dexterity of the hand and makes it easier to understand different aspects of the taal. Usually, when a human being is given a strict set of rules, he is given a specific direction to turn to, which first limits the scope and freedom. The tabla is an essential instrument in the Bhakti devotional traditions of Hinduism and Sikhism, such as during bhajan and kirtan singing. It is one of the main Qawali instruments used by Sufi musicians. The instrument is also featured in dance performances such as Kathak. Tabla is a rhythmic instrument. The name Tabla likely comes from Tabl, the Arabic word for drum. The ultimate origin of the musical instrument is contested by scholars, though some trace its evolution to indigenous musical instruments of the Indian subcontinent.
