Raises Awareness on Abnormal Bleeding during Menstrual Cycle You likely to opt for a self-care routine when it comes to your period. Some take leave from work, some stock up on supplies, and some pop pain relief medication and some get the heating pad ready.

But how do you know if your bleeding is normal or not? To address this issue, Zydus Healthcare took the initiative of raising awareness on abnormal bleeding and made a record with the India Book of Records.

T

he record for the maximum number of Gynaecologists participating in a public awareness campaign on abnormal bleeding was set

by Zydus Healthcare. The campaign, which was held from March 6, 2021 to March 9, 2021, witnessed the participation

of 139 Gynaecologists across the nation. This campaign was broadcast from various leading radio stations.

The campaign addressed issues like symptoms of abnormal bleeding, steps a woman can take, and how

important it is to consult a gynaecologists.

Talking about the record, Product Manager, Shreeram Phadke, says “I wanted to create an awareness amongst the audience regarding abnormal bleeding. And to achieve a record, we needed to cross

the 129 mark and I am glad we could do it.”

Organising an event of this stature virtually across the nation is no easy task. Three months of preparation and ensuring that every doctor who confirmed are recording with the radio stations on time.

The record for achieving the fastest lap time on a national racing circuit with a 300cc motorcycle was set

by Tharun Kumar S. of Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, at Kari Motor Speedway. He set the fastest lap time of 1 minute, 23 seconds and 81 milliseconds. He spoke to India Book Records about his inspiration and how it feels to be a record holder.

Since 2014, I have been motorsport & automobile professional. I dabbled my hands as a professional motorcycle racer, test rider, and chief instructor in a racing school.

2. What are your hobbies?

I love to remain active throughout the day. I love to play football and also swim.

In my leisure time, I listen to music.

3. What inspired you to make the record?

In India motorsport, is at a nascent and developing stage.

I want to create awareness for motorsport so that the riders get exposure. Hence, I applied

for the India Book of Records, as it is the right platform for talents to get recognised.

4. What challenges did you face while making the record?

The weather posed as the biggest challenge. The temperature in Coimbatore was soaring higher than usual. The heat and the crosswinds in the racing circuit made the ride a difficult one.

5. How many hours of training did you undergo?

he adrenaline rush, the gushing winds, the heart-stopping excitement defined the day Hrushikesh Mandke made a record with the India Book of Records; for being the fastest to cover a quarter-mile distance while doing a wheelie.

Making this stunt possible is the Bajaj Pulsar NS 200. With 24.2 BHP, it has more power in its class and the stiff perimeter frame makes for a balanced and stable motorcycle whether it is on two or just one wheel. The power, the low weight, balanced chassis and the predictable throttle made the task a little easier for Hrushikesh Mandke.

Talking to India Book of Records, Sirish Chandran, Editor, Project GTO Publishing, says, “Keeping in mind the FMSCI guidelines, we attempted to break the National Record for the fastest quarter-mile wheelie. The team placed the start and end markers using cones while keeping safety precautions in mind. An ambulance was on standby, the runway blocked off and stunt rider Hrushikesh wore a certified helmet and riding gear. We used the Racelogic Performance Box Touch Data Logger for accurate results. In the end, Hrushikesh made the record at 23.68 seconds at a terminal speed of 77.83 kmph.”

Braving the crosswinds, holding the front wheel up in the air, Hrushikesh Mandke, Road Tester, made a record for being the fastest to cover a quarter-mile distance while doing a wheelie in 23.68 seconds in his Bajaj Pulsar NS 200.

The Baramati Airstrip was reverberating with excitement and passion as he flew past the quarter-mile mark.

The record has been months in the making, as Hrushikesh trained five days a week. His daily fitness training included cardio exercises and core strengthening, which helped him to hold the bike up in the air. He took a holistic approach to his training and trained both his body and mind.

The road to making the record was not an easy one.

The team faced multiple challenges. Talking about the difficulties faced, Sirish says, “The airstrip was available for a limited time and despite that, we had to ensure that all three attempts were conducted safely and accurately. Since the runway was prone to strong crosswinds, it was a true test for Hrushikesh; he had to use all his experience, skill and strength to keep the front wheel pointed towards the sky for over 400 metres while countering the

forces of nature. And not to forget, the scorching heat that made filming and photographing even more difficult.”

Reminiscing about the hustle of the young crew, the poha and vada pav breaks, and the light-hearted banter, Sirish

keeps his focus determined and is planning the next record for the longest rolling stoppie.

Every Drop Counts – L&T & WET-IC Educates on the Value of Water

A

s projected, by 2030, 40% of the population will have no access to drinking water, and 6% of India’s GDP will be lost, because of the water crisis. L&T designed the program to give a different approach towards the unbelievable facts on water footprint.

As the virtual session revealed eye-opening facts, it also raised some points for all of us to ponder. What, we as individuals can do to preserve water? What can the

industrial sector do? How the Government can help? It is high time that we acquire a new level of awareness and learn the value of water.

Initiatives like this by L&T and WET-IC is the need of the hour. Even by educating their employees, they are creating more aware citizens. But organising such a large-scale virtual event too comes with its challenges. They had to ensure there was no technical glitch while connecting all the

attendees. Moreover, they also had to be sure that the session was interesting enough to keep the attendees glued to it.

he District Administration of Bongaigaon, Assam, undertook the initiative of tree plantation drive; as a part of the Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) programme for generating awareness amongst the voters for maximum participation in the Legislative Assembly election,2021. They planted 32000 saplings at a single site and

became a record holder with the India Book of Records.

Tree plantation in the current scenario is not a mere activity but truly, need of the hour. Amongst other efforts in seeking a 100 percent voter turnaround in the upcoming Legislative Assembly election 2021, one of the initiatives undertaken was tree plantation.

They planted 32000 saplings

at a single site in the record time of 32 minutes.

The plantation drive took place at a degraded reserved forest situated in 32-Bon-

gaigaon. A total of 1,670 people planted the saplings, restoring the forest and support the endangered species of the Golden Langur.

Breaking the Status Quo and Innovating at the age of 14

A

Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar 2021 awardee Archit Rahul Patil got inspired from a young age.

Talking to the India Book of Records, he says, “Since my childhood, I had to witness and experience the emotional trauma of maternal deaths; during childbirth, due to excessive blood loss. I learned from my parents (who are doctors) that there is no single accurate method to measure post-delivery blood loss. It leads to delay in diagnosis and unfortunate death of mothers despite marathon efforts by the medical team. This situation inspired me to find the solution to the problem.”

The PPH Cup helps in accurate and real-time measurement of post-delivery

blood loss. These cups help in prompt and early diagnosis of excessive post-delivery bleeding & alert the medical team.

Getting the necessary medical treatment for PPH (postpartum haemorrhage) in golden hour reduces the death rate (maternal mortality) and (morbidity), thus preventing further health deterioration of the mother. This low-cost device is not only life-saving but also safe, effective and reusable. It is user-friendly for women as well as for caregivers.

The impact of this 50gm device is validated; by all stakeholders and is currently in use by three government medical colleges in Maharashtra (India).

A student of class 10 and a budding innovator, Archit Rahul Patil, innovated the life-saving Postpartum Haemorrhage Cups.

He developed low-cost silicone Postpartum Haemorrhage Cups (PPH Cups), which would measure the post-delivery blood loss accurately and reduce the maternal mortality rate.

It took almost two years from the ideation to the final product development.

The greatest complication was to incubate the idea while developing the final product.

Making a flawless mould after multiple attempts was one of the most critical and difficult phases I encountered.

Archit was aware of Postpartum Haemorrhage trauma in his childhood. During the 2017-18 Dr. Homi Bhabha Young Scientist competition, Archit conducted various workshops for better ecofriendly menstrual hygiene options. In this event, he became aware of different menstrual products and had a first-hand experience of handling the products. The idea struck his mind, and he further researched the subject and developed the product.

Making of the PPH cups was not an easy task to accomplish Archit reveals the challenges he faced, “It took almost two years from the ideation to the final product development. The greatest

This journey wouldn’t have been possible for Archit without the immense support and

guidance he received from his parents. They provided him logistical support and also helped him in industrial collaboration for the development of the product.

Revealing about his robust plans, he says, “I want to introduce this life-saving innovation at an international

platform to outreach global users. I want UNICEF, WHO, Government of India to incorporate the PPH cup in maternal schemes, as it will help in reducing maternal mortality.

I have formed a company, Archit Scientific Private Limited and this device will be commercially marketed under this banner.”

Faith is to believe what we do not see and to know that we would see what we believe in. Atul Kumar Mishra, took a leap of faith and made the record of being the fastest to cover the quarter marathon distance while performing Dandvat Pranam at Katra Vaishno Devi, Jammu and Kashmir.

My faith in Goddess Vaishno Devi made me overcome my difficulties. But weather posed to be the biggest challenge I faced while making the record.

43-year-old Atul Kumar Mishra, covered 10.548 km distance between Banganga Bridge and Vaishno Devi Bhawan Police Check Post in 44 hours and 7 minutes, and became the fastest to cover quarter marathon while doing Dandvat Pranam. He believes that the support of his family and the constant motivation he received from them helped him immensely in achieving this record.

It was not an easy task to achieve, as Atul narrates his journey, “My faith in Goddess Vaishno Devi made me

overcome my difficulties. But weather posed to be the biggest challenge I faced while making the record. On the way I encountered rain, snowfall and cold waves. I stopped every time it rained and then resumed my journey. And even finding food became a problem.”

He was planning this record and trip for the past 5 years, with two to five hours of daily physical training. Atul believes in following his dream and the next record he would like to achieve would be in the field of cycling.

Vikas’s life was filled with struggle. He started driving buses from a very young age.

But now, he is willing to leave his past behind and work hard in the field of yoga, and spread awareness amongst people about the benefits of yoga.

school bus driver from Meerut district in Uttar Pradesh, Vikas Swami, made a record for lifting 80 Kg weight with his mouth in a handstand position. The story of Vikas’s life will inspire many people; to never lose hope and follow their hearts. Ten years ago, Vikas met with a deadly road accident while riding his bike.

His condition was so critical that people thought that he was dead and left him unattended on the roadside.

The record for the maximum number of people solving 3x3x3 Rubik’s Cube on a digital platform was set by Prithvi Mosaics and Speed Cubing Bangalore, Karnataka. A total of 250 participants solved the Rubik’s Cube on the Zoom platform with an average solving time of 5 minutes.

We are a cubing community and we endeavor to inspire and motivate people of all ages to involve in cube solving, puzzles, and related activities.

Due to the pandemic, as we all were homebound, the most interesting part of the record was to help each other and share the solution for solving Rubix’s Cube online.

Lt. Gen. Alok Kler Performs Maximum

A

fourth-generation Army Officer, Lt. Gen. Alok Kler (PVSM, VSM, General Officer Commanding in Chief, South Western Command), was commissioned in the year 1982 and retired from the Indian Army on 31st March 2021. Talking about his skydive attempt, he says, “I am an amateur skydiver and was seeking a solo skydive, which means an unassisted jump without experienced instructors hanging on to you during the free fall to keep

you steady in the air. In the attempt to achieve a solo, I was lucky to find excellent weather conditions in Mahajan, Rajasthan, which helped me, to successfully attempt six free fall jumps between 8.30 am and 12.30 pm and achieve a record at the age of 60.”

Knowing that he was retiring in 29 days, he wanted to execute the free fall jumps as a birthday gift to himself. Lt. Gen. Alok Kler India Book of Records | May 2021

A mountaineer, long-distance runner, a cyclist, scuba diver, motorcyclist, and now a skydiver, that’s Lieutenant General Alok Kler for you, an absolute adventure seeker. He performed six skydives from 12,000 feet (Above Ground Level) at the age of 60 at Mahajan, Rajasthan, during Army Adventure Wing Skydiving Course.

Feature Story Skydiving gives a new perspective for gravity. It makes one experience weightlessness resulting in an extreme adrenaline rush.

celeration of a human body to descend a thousand feet in five seconds. After flying for 50 seconds with the birds, the terrain starts appearing closer as one drops altitude. This mesmerising, exhilarating and addictive experience creates vivid impressions of how close

a man can come to being a bird!”

Elaborating further about his experience, Lt. Gen. Alok Kler says, “The helicopter took off from a helipad at Mahajan near Suratgarh, where the ambient temperature was over 30 degrees, and it took about 15 minutes to reach 12,000 feet. The temperature at that altitude was close to 10 degrees and below. Falling from 12,000 to 5,000 feet in 45 seconds with the buffeting of the wind at terminal velocity along with the fast-changing temperature is an extraordinary experience, which also takes a physical toll. After the

parachute deploys, approximately five to eight minutes of hang time is available before landing on the terrain.

The landing needs precision, physical and technical expertise. To repeat this process six times in a continuous cycle was an event in itself.”

Lt. Gen. Alok Kler has no intention of stopping at just skydive; he has two more endeavours on his bucket list.

The first is to cycle from Leh to Kanyakumari in 20 days and the second is to scale Mt. Everest.

believes that immense support from his family, fabulous jump instructors, experienced helicopter pilots, weather and luck all conspired to ensure that he managed six consecutive jumps in about four hours.

Skydiving and free-fall both demand exceptional levels of physical fitness and mental alertness. He underwent ground training for a week but, it was his peak physical fitness over the years that helped him in this endeavour.

Talking to IBR about the feeling, the moment he dived, he says, “Skydiving gives a new perspective for gravity. It makes one experience weightlessness resulting in an extreme adrenaline rush. Terminal velocity enables the ac-

A decade-long dream of Pushparaj Ameen - an aeromodelling instructor, finally takes shape in the form of a lightweight five-meter-long microlight seaplane called - Drithi. With seven other aeromodelling enthusiasts, Ameen embarked on the journey of developing Drithi in his backyard. Drithi took off for its maiden flight over the pristine waters of the Shambhavi in Hejamady village in coastal Karnataka.

The dream team Viyaddrony led by Pushparaj Ameen consists of members, Vinaya U, Vasuraj Ameen, Abhishek M. Kotian, Utsav Umesh, Reshma J.Bangera, Shayani Rao, and Ashwini Rao. “We worked hard without proper infrastructure and with restricted tools eventually to build this seaplane. The fabrication work undertook on the terrace and backyard of our instructor’s home. For the first time in India, we have successfully built this seaplane at approximate

rupees ten lakhs (including the static modelling). We are researching different types of boats and planes for special and defense purposes.

Due to financial problems, the research got delayed.

This seaplane is a prototype model to prove that our team can achieve anything,” the team members said.

While a crowdfunding campaign fetched them mere Rs 15,000, the group members, with help of friends and family pooled in around rupees ten lakh, the cost of making Drithi.

The goal of the project is to promote and encourage the manufactures in India to build seaplanes at a fairly affordable price. The team is ready to impart practical education and hands-on experience on planes and boats to students passionate about this field.

After Drithi, the team is working on its next project.

A unique boat, specially designed for defense purposes and can be used during natural calamities like floods, transportation between islands, and for sporting purposes too.
