Dear Readers,

The celebration of the 20th anniversary of Vietnam Book of Records was wonderful. The huge event held in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, left its mark at the international level. Especially for India, it was once again a memorable global affair, where India’s top record holders were felicitated at an International platform. Giants from the world of records were present in the conference. Among these, the dignified presence of Dr. Biswaroop Roy Chowdhury, Editor-in-Chief of India Book of Records and Managing Editor Mrs. Neerja Roy Chowdhury was remarkable. This time the cover story is about the successful organization of the Vietnam Festival.

Another story from New Delhi is quite impressive. This is about the winners honored with the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar 2024 on the occasion of Republic Day, who have previously made their mark in the India Book of Records. This story will prove to be inspiring for other children also. Also, in the article focused on the 5th IBR Convocation ceremony, you will get to read about the achievers who have made a great impact with their work. We have brought more such amazing stories for you. Along with this, you will get to read many other unique records and adventure stories on the inside pages. These include - a massive workshop on Neurotherapy organized by Arogya Peeth Delhi, the biggest online food quiz by Lupine Aptivate and HT Media, a record based on the UN Sustainable Development Goals, an impactful horseriding campaign for children, 103 dishes prepared in an hour by Chef Palanimurugan - an amazing feat and a non-stop 5-a-side football competition. Some of these stories can inspire you too to create a new record. Send your feedback to: media@indiabookofrecords.in

Horse riding expedition H

orse riding is an enjoyable hobby and sport for adults and children alike. Learning to control an animal larger than oneself can boost confidence and is a great feeling. Riding is a good way to get out and see the surrounding areas bringing the rider closer to nature. Simply being outdoors may boost the well-being of the rider and act as a great stress buster. There is a real sense of exhalation and freedom when one rides, a feeling that is second to none. At first, it seems that just learning to stay on and steer the horse is a challenge. When that becomes easy many more learning opportunities arise. But there are challenges too. Even the most experienced equestrian would admit there is always something new to learn. Research has shown that lifelong learning may prevent memory loss. Just like our muscles our brain needs exercise to keep young and supple. Riding provides an active avenue for keeping the brain exercised. For many, a horse is a connection with nature. Many people find companionship and solace while working with their horses. If you crave solitude, horse riding can provide that as well. Many horse owners feel their horse is somewhat of a kindred spirit in tune with their feelings and emotions. In times of stress, a horse can be a quiet friend, who is without judgment. With the same feelings and zeal, a group of seven student horse riders from the Nila Horse Riding Academy, Erode, Tamil Nadu completed a distance of 197 km on horseback from Gopalapuram, Kerala on October 27, 2023, and finished the expedition at Erode successfully, setting a new record under the India Book of Records (IBR) and Asia Book of Records (ABR).

Gowthaman M Vetrikannan from the Nila Horse Riding Academy, Erode, Tamil Nadu, said, “The ride was organized to create awareness about the endurance capabilities of indigenous native breeds and promote horse riding as a hobby. The successful completion of the ride helped spread awareness about horse riding. I feel, that anybody, from adults to children, can take up this sport as a hobby or a full-time profession. The success of the group proved that if you have the passion and are determined to learn new skills, anyone, irrespective of gender or age group, can take up the challenge and succeed in horse riding. I tell people that a horse is a living creature, not a vehicle that you can control at your will. The horse could also be nervous, tired, or even scared to have someone new riding him. Therefore, to establish a good relationship from the beginning, greet the horse when you are introduced to him at the ranch.” Earlier also, the Nila Horse Riding Academy, Erode has been in the news for achieving other milestones. In a joint venture, the Indigenous Horse Society, Coimbatore, and Nila Horse Riding Academy, Erode had set another record under the India Book of Records in July 2023. That record was for the maximum number of people traveling for an expedition while riding on horseback.

The horse riders started their expedition from Kanya Kumari and finished the attempt at the Anthiyur Gurunatha Swamy temple fairgrounds. It was a meticulously planned and wellarranged horse-riding expedition.

The record for maximum distance traveled for an expedition while riding on horseback was set by Nila Horse Riding Academy of Erode, Tamil Nadu in a week, wherein a team of 7 student horse riders from the academy traveled a distance of 197 km.

A celebration of Cashew Nuts

36

India Book of Records | February 2024

A

favorite snacking and party nut is recognized each year on November 23 during National Cashew Day. The cashew nut is a seed harvested from the cashew tree. The tree is widely grown in tropical climates for its cashew apples and nuts. With leathery leaves arranged spirally, the evergreen cashew tree grows as tall as 32 feet high and often has an irregularly shaped trunk. The flowers are small, starting pale green and then turning reddish, with each one having five slender, acute petals. The cashew tree has a fruit called the cashew apple. Its fragile skin makes it unsuitable for transport. Latin Americans make a fruit drink from the cashew apple. The cashew causes fewer allergic reactions than other nuts or peanuts. Mostly peanuts, walnuts, and other nuts are sold in the shell, but due to the toxic nature of the cashew nut shell, this is not possible. Cashew nuts are an excellent source of antioxidants. It is also a source of dietary trace minerals like copper, manganese, magnesium, and phosphorous. Cashew oil is a dark yellow oil for cooking or salad dressing pressed from cashew nuts. Many parts of the plant are used for medicinal purposes. Cashew nuts are a part of the popular dry fruits. Considering the popularity of these nuts, Chef Palanimurugan with the Tamilnadu Cashew Processors and Exporters Association (TNCPEA), set the record for preparing and displaying the maximum number of cashew nut-based dishes in an hour. A total of 103 dishes were made using cashew nuts including

cashew milkshake, fig cashew smoothie, paneer cashew salad, peri peri cashew fry, cauliflower cashew pakoda, kaju makhni, cashew chatpata, and many more, at Panruti, Tamil Nadu. The unique attempt of Chef Palanimurugan brought him laurels in the form of the Asia Book of Records title. On average, a cashew tree can live up to 60 years, but some live even longer. As per the available information, the world’s largest cashew tree is estimated to be over 100 years old. A cashew tree begins producing around three years after it is planted, but peak, harvestable production may take up to 8 years. Those with lactose intolerance, milk allergies, or are vegetarian or vegan rely on nut milk for nutrition. Some people prefer the flavor, too. Cashew milk is another option to add to the growing list of available nut and grain milk out there. Cashew milk can be made at home too. Tamil Nadu Cashew Processors & Exporters Association was formed by the group of Tamil Nadu-based cashew exporters and processors, to help and assist Tamil Nadu exporters and processors by providing access to national and international markets, promoting Tamil Nadu Cashew products through various activities and increasing the overall exports from India. TNCPEA provides a better focus on promoting cashews

he 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015, provides a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future. At its heart are the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are an urgent call for action by all countries - developed and developing - in a global partnership. They recognize that ending poverty and other deprivations must go hand-in-hand with strategies that improve health and education, reduce inequality, and spur economic growth – all while tackling climate change and working to preserve our oceans and forests. The SDGs build on decades of work by countries and the UN, including the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs. Non-stop Football Tournament 5 -a-side football is a version of minifootball, in which each team fields five players (four outfield players and a goalkeeper). Other differences from association football include a smaller pitch, smaller goals, and a reduced game duration. Matches are played indoors or outdoors on artificial grass pitches that may be enclosed within a barrier or ‘cage’ to prevent the ball from leaving the playing area and keep the game constantly flowing. It is an informal, small-sided game with flexible rules, often determined before play begins. The

penalty area is semi-circular and only the goalkeeper can touch the ball within it. There are no offside rules, headers are allowed, and yellow and red cards work similarly to traditional 11-a-side football. 5-a-side football is quite popular among youth organizations in the US, and some teams have secured sponsorship deals worth thousands of pounds. Governing bodies like the World Minifootball Federation, International Socca Federation, and JFA7 promote small-sided football competitions and unite

national associations. With more than 30,000 teams playing in competitive small-sided football leagues, it’s no wonder that 5-a-side has become the most popular type of adult football. All team members are subject to the same rules as in a normalsized game. Some of the more obvious rules that are shared are that foul play is penalized and no use of the hand (for outfield players) is allowed. Despite the similarities, some rules do differ in 5-a-side, for example, no slide tackling, the head height rule, and the goalkeeper’s area.
