Amidst the ongoing Parliamentary Elections 2024, we planned a cover story on the theme of ‘Our Constitution, Our Pride’. The Hubli-Dharwad district of Karnataka organized two mega events under this theme. The first was a heritage walk and the second was a torch rally to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Indian Constitution. Both events were led by District Incharge Minister Santhosh Lad, involving thousands of people as participants. A glimpse of the 7th Convocation@IBRoffice will also attract your attention.

A 22-year-old youth from Maharashtra mastered the skill of speedcubing while performing scuba diving underwater. He solved the Rubik’s Cube 20 feet underwater in the Arabian Sea and tackled ten cube puzzles underwater keeping everybody surprised. Kotak Mahindra Asset Management Company conducted the largest financial literacy program involving 52,000 teachers and 808 schools. Similarly, the district legal services authority of Nizamabad conducted a mega training program on self-defence for the girls. Meanwhile, Lupin Limited created the record for the maximum number of pledges taken in a month to knock out heart disease in women. A total of 3000 healthcare practitioners from across India logged in to a portal created specifically for this purpose and signed the online pledge to create awareness about heart disease in women.

Fastest Underwater Speedcubing

Speedcubing is the art of solving the Rubik’s cube and similar puzzles as quickly as possible. Ishaan Nimish Hadkar of Thane, Maharashtra, has over 10 years of experience in speedcubing. On March 1, 2024, the 22-year-old Ishaan Hadkar set two records and got his name entered into the prestigious India Book of Records (IBR). The first record was for being the fastest to solve the Rubik’s cube while scuba diving. He solved the Rubik’s cube, scrambled it, and then took it 20 feet underwater in the Arabian Sea in Malvan, in the Konkan region of Maharashtra. He solved the cube in a record time of 24.75 seconds from entering the water to resurfacing; however, the timing of Rubik’s cube solving was 16 seconds.

The second record was for the maximum number of Rubik’s cubes solved while scuba diving. For this, he solved 10 Rubik’s cubes. He scrambled the cubes, placed them in a bag, and took them underwater. He then successfully solved all 10 cubes one by one, transferring them to another bag, in 4 minutes and 31.61 seconds. IBR adjudicator Kashmira Shah verified the attempts and announced the records.

Ishaan’s core competencies are attention to detail, data analysis, visualisation, and problem-solving. His mission is to inspire and educate people about the beauty and logic of Rubik’s cubes and how they can enhance their cognitive abilities and creativity. He works as a Rubik’s Cube Mosaic Artist, creating realistic and stunning artworks with Rubik’s cubes for various clients and occasions. He holds a Business Analytics

credential from Harvard Business School Online. It helps him with analytical and data-driven approaches to his projects and processes. He has won several Rubik’s Cube competitions in India and represented India at the World Cube Championships 2023, held in Seoul, Republic of Korea.

Talking to the India Book of Records magazine, Ishaan Hadkar said, “I started speedcubing at the age of 12 years and now with practice, I have reached the pinnacle of speedcubing. Many people take Rubik’s cube as a time-pass activity, but I took it as a passion and now I am one of the record holders in India. Cubing has always been my passion ever since I started understanding the benefits. It depends on the hand, eye, and brain coordination and helps to sharpen your mind and decision-making ability. One gets a millisecond to decide and act on solving the cube, which makes this activity of speedcubing exciting and enhances brain development. I encourage young people to pursue this activity as a hobby, which will help them in their academics and also in their life journey.”

The speedcuber further added, “As a Rubik’s Cube Mosaic Artist, I use around 100 Rubik’s cubes to create a 900-pixel image and can do up to 1000 cubes for greater detail. Some of my work can be seen on my profile, such as company logos, faces, and

landscapes. I also teach people how to solve a Rubik’s cube and help them improve their problem-solving, analytical thinking, and decision-making skills. I have been a speedcuber since 2013, won 24 medals, and hold a national record for the fastest average Rubik’s cube-solving time. I enjoy sharing my passion and knowledge of Rubik’s cubes with others and challenge myself to create new and innovative designs and solutions.”

Dharwad district made its way into the India Book of Records (IBR) to conduct a month-long awareness campaign for the people to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the adoption of the Indian Constitution. Santosh Lad, minister of the district, and Divya Prabhu, deputy commissioner, formally received the certificates from Narvijay Yadav, Adjudicator of the India Book of Records on February 24, 2024, confirming

Dharwad’s entry into the prestigious record book after it finished on top in two categories – heritage walk and torch rally – in a countrywide competition among all districts to raise general awareness on the Constitution. The felicitation program was organized at the municipal corporation campus in Hubli, which was joyfully attended by hundreds of people from

different parts of the district and the employees of the district administration.

Divya Prabhu, IAS, the DC of Dharwad, said, “We had organized a heritage walk on February 17, covering all the important heritage sites in the district, including KCD, DIET, Darbar Hall, Kadambesvara temple and Shri Siddharooda Swamy Matha. More than 10,000 students and 500 teachers participated in the

walk, apart from people from other walks of life. It concluded at the heritage hostel established by Dr BR Ambedkar in 1929. The torch rally on February 19, from Unkal Cross Hubli to Rani Channamma Circle Hubli, saw the participation of more than 15,000 people, including children. Sadanand Amarapur, the assistant director of the Youth Empowerment and Sports Department, Dharwad, said, “We submitted videos and other documents related to these events to the India Book of Records office. Our entry into the records book was confirmed only after the scrutiny of documents. The awareness programs were focused on the theme of ‘Our Constitution Our Pride’ and ‘Unity in Diversity’.”

Earlier, the Labour Minister and Dharwad district in-charge, Santosh Lad launched the month-long Constitution Awareness Jatha in the district on Republic Day by paying floral tributes to a tableau on Constitution. Later, the tableau was taken to State

and national-level programs on the Constitution. Out of the 29 days of the programs in 31 districts in Karnataka, Dharwad district stood first in the State for 22 days and also secured first place in the Belagavi division in organizing the Jatha.

A total of 146-gram panchayats, seven local bodies, and all wards of Hubli Dharwad Municipal Corporation took part in the program during which the Jatha covered 1,528 kilometres and various programs were held, in which people from different walks of life, including transgenders, oppressed women, former Devadasis, and others took part. It is worth mentioning that 2,30,000 copies of the Preamble of the Constitution were distributed to students and the general public in Dharwad district as part of the massive awareness program.

The dynamic Managing Editor Ms Neerja Roy Chowdhury personally extended warm wishes to each achiever. It was a gathering of incredible children, inspiring young prodigies, and seasoned adults – musicians, mathematicians, and doctors alike – all converging under one roof.

Ms Neerja Roy Chowdhury added a touch of elegance by adorning achievers with sashes and mementoes, highlighting the vital role played by family and loved ones in their remarkable success.

After the photo shoots, media interviews, fun, food, and felicitation, each attendee was treated to a special keepsake, a tangible memory to immortalise this monumental day, presented with flair by the India Book of Records. Ultimately, the Convocation transcended beyond a celebration of records; it was a joyous ode to individuals, their unyielding belief, and the collective spirit propelling them to unparalleled greatness.

He can ride a bike in a unique style

Yash Santosh Tayade of Amravati (Maharashtra) is fond of riding motorcycles in unique ways. Born in 2002, he shocked everybody by riding a motorcycle forward for 1 kilometre in 3 minutes and 20 seconds while seated backwards in 2023. He was appreciated for this daring attempt.

The name of ‘Ram’ gave him fame

Upendra Kumar Shrivastava (66) of Vidisha (Madhya Pradesh) created a record by writing ‘Ram’ word for the maximum number of times in Hindi in 30 minutes. He wrote the word ‘Ram’ 1,381 times in Hindi language in a notebook in half an hour. The feat was confirmed on November 16, 2023.

Maximum Hindi poems by a person

Anand Prakash Sharma (54) of Hoshangabad (Madhya Pradesh) set a record for writing the maximum number of poems in Hindi. He wrote 1050 poems for his book, ‘ Hajar Kavitaon ka Utsav’ (ISBN: 978-93-94124-45-5), published by Shri Narmada Prakashan in 2022.

Intelligent kid mimicked various sounds

Enaaya Thakur (born on October 10, 2021) of Mandi (Himachal Pradesh) was appreciated for identifying 16 animals, 12 birds, 6 colours, 5 shapes, 7 cartoon characters, 12 body parts, 44 letters of Hindi and English alphabets and mimicking 7 types of sounds, at the age of 2 years, 4 months.

Teen recalled 100 decimal places of root 5

Akarsh Chittineni of Krishna district in Andhra Pradesh, established a new record for being the fastest teen to recall the first 100 decimal places of root five. He recited the first 100 decimal places of root five in 37 seconds and 42 milliseconds at the age of 15 years and 7 days, in October 2022.

Completed a marathon of 50 kilometres

was titled as ‘IBR Achiever’ for completing a marathon of 50 kilometres in 3 hours, 35 minutes and 4 seconds at Lonavala Varsha Marathon on July 9, 2023, at the age of 27 years and 2 months. It was held in Pune district of Maharashtra.

Described the theory of natural numbers

V Gangadharan Mankurussi of Palakkad (Kerala) was titled as ‘IBR Achiever’ for carrying out research in the field of Pure Numbers and authoring two books on pure numbers titled ‘Theory of Natural Numbers’ and ‘Numerical Analysis’ published by BG Publishers. Gangadharan is 72 years old.

Research published in IET Journals

P Michael Preetam Raj of Hyderabad (Telangana) was titled as ‘IBR Achiever’ for writing a research paper titled ‘Simple Design of Memristive Counters and their Applications in Automatic Irrigation System’. It was published in the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) Journals.

Youngest author got copyright for book

K. Divya Dharshan of Chennai (Tamil Nadu) set a record for being the youngest to get a copyright for his unpublished bilingual book. He got a copyright for his unpublished bilingual book, written in Tamil and English, titled ‘Wisdom from Young One’ at the age of 12 years and 11 days.

Maximum helmets distributed by a person

Pethkar Basweshwar Bhagwanrao of Nanded (Maharashtra) set a record for distributing the maximum number of helmets in a bid to promote road safety. He distributed 700 helmets at an event ‘Helmet Free on Purchase of Vehicle Insurance’ in Nanded on March 9 and March 10, 2024.

Maximum states covered in a car expedition

GS Manikkuttan of Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala) was honoured for covering the maximum number of places in a solo roundtrip car drive. He drove across 22 states and 6 UTs; starting and ending the drive at Cheriyakonni, covering a distance of 69,207 km in 97 days, 23 hours and 50 minutes.

Child recited tables while writing GK answers

S Kevin Godson of Chennai (Tamil Nadu) set a record for reciting multiplication tables from 1 to 30 while simultaneously writing answers to 45 General Knowledge questions on a sheet of paper in 7 minutes and 48 seconds, using a pencil, at the age of 7 years, 3 months and 9 days.

Got honoured for environmental sustainability

Nripanka Das of Guwahati (Assam) was titled as ‘IBR Achiever’ for achieving 15 certificates in the field of environmental sustainability and authoring two research papers, ‘Testing Japanese cedar as Wood Fuel’ and ‘Descaling of Production Tubing Using High Pressure Atomisers’.

Completed half marathon while juggling balls

Ketan Pradip Abhonkar (43) of Pune (Maharashtra) set a record for being the fastest to complete a half marathon while juggling three balls. He completed the Tata Mumbai Marathon (21.097 km) in 2 hours, 20 minutes and 35 seconds while juggling three balls on January 21, 2024.

Toddler recited rhymes in multiple languages

Bhavi Ankit Kachhara of Mumbai (Maharashtra) set a record for reciting nursery rhymes in many languages. She recited 7 rhymes in 7 languages (English, Hindi, Punjabi, Gujarati, French, Japanese and Marathi) in 2 minutes and 26 seconds, at the age of 1 year, 11 months and 24 days.

Recited 50 poems in Hindi and English

Ann Serah Albin (born April 21, 2018) of Kanyakumari district of Tamil Nadu, was honoured on getting the title of ‘IBR Achiever’ for efficiently reciting 50 poems (30 Hindi and 20 English) within 4 minutes and 20 seconds, at the age of 5 years and 10 months, as confirmed on March 19, 2024.

Child showcased talent at a tender age

Kian Garai (born on June 12, 2021) of Durgapur (West Bengal), was titled as ‘IBR Achiever’ for identifying 4 insects, 10 parts of the body, 6 vegetables, 3 types of fish, 22 famous personalities; translating the names of 18 animals, 2 vehicles, 6 fruits and 5 vegetables from English to Bengali.

Youngest to sing National Anthems

Jyash Tholiya of Pune (Maharashtra) was honoured for being the youngest record holder to sing the National Anthems of 195 countries (48 Asian nations, 54 African, 14 Caribbean, 14 Oceania, 44 European, 9 North American and 12 South American countries) at the age of 10 years, 11 months and 21 days.

Played 24 musical instruments simultaneously

Ruby (born on May 22, 1984) of Chandigarh Union Territory (popularly known as the City Beautiful) was titled as the ‘IBR Achiever’ for playing 24 musical instruments, including a piano, a guitar, dhol, drums and a harmonium amongst others in 1 minute and 35 seconds. The feat came to light in March 2024.

Girl performed leg rotation in the Chakrasana pose

Sinchana B K (born on January 5, 2014) of Kodagu (Karnataka) set a record for performing leg rotations for the maximum number of times in the Chakrasana pose. She performed leg rotations 11 times in the Chakrasana yoga pose in one minute, at the age of 10 years, 2 months and 21 days only.

Longest mehndi design made on paper

Surgery of the Oldest Patient

Inguinal hernia surgery is an operation to repair a weakness in the abdominal wall that abnormally allows abdominal contents to slip into a narrow tube called the inguinal canal in the groin region. Dr DS Malik (MBBS, MS) Director of General & Laparoscopic Surgery at Eternal Hospital, Jaipur, Rajasthan, created history by operating upon the oldest person for Inguinal Hernia. The India Book of Records (IBR) recognized this remarkable achievement through a record titled as ‘Oldest Person operated for Inguinal Hernia successfully by a Doctor’. He operated on a 103-year-old patient, Tulsi Ram Sharma, for Inguinal Hernia on December 23, 2023. The patient was discharged on the second postoperative day. The stitches were removed on the seventh postoperative day and the patient was declared completely fit and fine.

Currently, he is the President of the Surgeons Society of Jaipur. The surgeon has received 15 prestigious awards for outstanding work during and after the service period. A few of them are - an appreciation certificate from the Mobile Surgical Unit for excellent work done in 1987-88, appreciation certificate by Rajasthan Chapter of Associations of Surgeons of India (ASIRAJ) for excellent paper presentation at Kota in 1987, Salam Rajasthan Award by Dr Vishva Mohan Bhatt in 2010, and Basini’s Award Appreciation certificate at the annual conference of Asia-Pacific Hernia Society at CebuPhilippines.

It is worth mentioning that there are two different clusters of hernia - groin and ventral (abdominal) wall. Groin hernia includes femoral, obturator, and inguinal types. Inguinal hernia is the most common type of hernia and consists of about 75% of all hernia surgery cases in the US. Inguinal hernia, which results from lower abdominal wall weakness or defect, is more

common among men with about 90% of total cases. In the inguinal hernia, fatty tissue or a part of the small intestine gets inserted into the inguinal canal. Other structures that are uncommon but may get stuck in an inguinal hernia can be the appendix, caecum, and transverse colon. Hernias can be asymptomatic, incarcerated, or strangled. Incarcerated hernia leads to impairment of intestinal flow, and a strangled hernia obstructs blood flow besides intestinal flow.

Other symptoms can include pain around the groin, an increase in the size of bulge, feeling pain while lifting, and a dull aching sensation. In occult hernia, the bulge cannot be detected by physical examination alone, and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) can be helpful in diagnosing this condition.

Say No to Drugs

These days, from every nook and corner of the country we see many activities carried out for a social cause, but the one by Avadi police and students was remarkable. Avadi Commissionerate entered a record book recently when they forged a human formation against drug abuse by bringing together 3600 students from 126 schools. A drone view of the formation made it look like a painting, however, a closer look revealed painstaking efforts by the students and the Avadi city police personnel, under Commissioner K Shankar, to create a record for a social cause. The initiative by Avadi police is now officially the ‘largest symbolic human formation for drug awareness’, according to the Asia Book of Records (ABR).

Tamil Nadu police chief Shankar Jiwal said, “By engaging schoolchildren for these initiatives, we are also directly reaching out to the younger population who will learn from interacting with police about the ill effects of drug usage. It is our part in creating model citizens out of younger generations. A war was being waged against Ganja. The message should reach everyone. The younger generation is the ideal ambassadors to spread awareness of drug abuse. Children should safeguard themselves against drug abuse as both mental and physical growth is necessary to achieve their dreams.”

Avadi police commissioner K Shankar said that to control the drug menace, police were adopting a double-pronged strategy through enforcement and education. In addition to enforcement action against drug peddlers resulting in high seizures, efforts are also being made to create awareness and reduce demand. In the presence of Avadi City Police Commissioner K.Shankar, the Director General of Police and Head of Police Force Shankar Jiwal administered a pledge to the students. He also called upon the students to work towards a drug-free society and extend support to achieve the goal of creating a drug-free society.

It is a matter of concern that Tamil Nadu is facing a considerable drug menace, as was evident from the statement of the Governor of the state, R N Ravi that the ‘worst fears of prevalence of drugs’ in Tamil Nadu have been ‘confirmed’ by the seizure of narcotics connected to members of an international drug cartel, and the subsequent arrest of the suspected kingpin belonging to the state.

Marathon against Child Abuse

Child abuse is a social evil that has existed in our society for a long time. The awareness regarding the same has been minimal in developing countries. Many a time, punitive measures taken by parents to discipline their children turn out to be painful scars in their childhood resulting in stunting of their mental and social growth. Doctors and other healthcare workers do play a crucial role in identifying and reporting such issues. Law has also evolved over the recent past in safeguarding the future of children. However, awareness regarding this issue has remained to be the same as before.

Children are vulnerable and need love, care, shelter, and protection from their caretakers for appropriate growth and development. Abuses against these tender beings often blight their childhood, leading to an inability to reach their full potential - both physically and mentally. Though child maltreatment has existed for many centuries, contemporary societies have either remained in denial or have been

snail-paced to acknowledge them as issues. India houses the second largest child population. A government of India survey showed that 53% of our children face some kind of abuse. The issue was highlighted during an awareness campaign organized by the MGM Institute of Physiotherapy, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra, which also won the Asia Book of Records title.

In commemoration of the International Day for the Prevention of Child Abuse, MGM Institute of Physiotherapy introduced the second edition of MGM Awarathon 2023, a resounding call to action. The initiative was a plea for everyone to stand up, be vigilant, and proactively prevent child abuse. The significant moments included a pre-marathon child abuse prevention drive and a non-stop torch relay. The endeavour showcased

physiotherapy interns passionately enacting skits that shed light on different manifestations of child abuse and preventive measures. The pre-marathon initiative was spread between October 26, 2023, and November 7, 2023, reaching out to 15 schools in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. The exercise impacted over 5000 students in grades 5th to 10th. The aim was to raise awareness and empower the younger generation to address and combat child abuse actively.

The non-stop torch relay, a journey of vigilance, echoing a powerful call -- Stop Child Abuse, was held on November 23 and 24, 2023, spanning 246 km within a 29-hour timeframe. The event was organized in association with the Commissionerate of Women and Child Development, Pune. The committed involvement of 100 students and faculty members from the

MGM campus fuelled this extraordinary journey. The torch relay started from MGM Campus, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, and ended at the Commissionerate of Women and Child Development in Pune. Over 10,000 citizens lent their presence to the profound narrative of this transformative journey. Along the way, powerful street plays by first-year physiotherapy students served as narratives, spreading awareness and encouraging dialogue on the crucial issue of child abuse.

The

MGM Institute of Physiotherapy, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra, achieved a significant milestone by organising the MGM Awarathon-23, a non-stop torch relay marathon to raise awareness about child abuse.

Women’s Cardio Fitness

Cardiovascular diseases, which have been identified as a men’s disease, are now also the leading cause of death among women globally. The numbers are exceptionally high in India, accounting for 40% of all female deaths due to cardiovascular diseases. Despite advancements, women continue to face disparities, necessitating immediate attention to gender-specific risk factors and formulating effective strategies for the prevention and treatment of heart diseases. Cardiovascular diseases in women are often misdiagnosed due to the belief that heart conditions predominantly affect men, resulting in delayed prognosis and poor treatment outcomes. Understanding that women may not exhibit the same symptoms as men is essential. Yet, there is insufficient data to comprehend these symptoms fully.

Early this year, at the Shakti Conclave 2.0, hosted in collaboration with STEMI and Women in Cardiology and Related Sciences (WINCARS), leading cardiologists emphasized the need to address gender disparities in heart disease awareness, particularly regarding atypical symptoms. Any signs of breathlessness, fatigue, or pain should prompt immediate testing. While younger women may experience pain less frequently than men, this changes with age, along with

increased incidences of fatigue and insomnia. Addressing these gender-specific differences requires an inclusive approach, empowering women to adopt proactive healthcare practices. Lupin Limited, Mumbai had organized the event.

Meanwhile, Lupin Limited created the record for the maximum number of pledges taken in a month to knock out heart disease in women. A total of 3,000 healthcare practitioners (HCPs) from all over India logged in to a portal created specifically for this purpose and signed the online pledge to create awareness about heart disease in women. The conclave brought together cardiologists from across India to address cardiovascular risk factors and early management in women. The pledge-taking drive started on February 1, 2024, and ended on February 29, 2024, setting a record under the India Book of Records. Sanjana Bhowmick, an IBR adjudicator, verified the claim and presented the medal and the record certificate to the organizers.

At the same time, Dr Thomas Alexander, senior interventional cardiologist from KMCH Hospital, Coimbatore, said, “We must change how we teach medical college students. Instead of saying that typical symptoms are seen in women, we must emphasize that they are only different so that we don’t miss women who have heart attacks.”

Training for Self-protection

Women’s self-defence ultimately gives them freedom, as they can defend themselves against mental, emotional, and physical challenges. Women who are afraid to express themselves are confined by their fears. Instead, confidence builds freedom. This is why getting trained in women’s selfdefence classes is so empowering. With this motive, 11,100 women and girls participated in a program on self-defence techniques at the Government Giriraj Degree College ground in Nizamabad, Telangana. The event witnessed girls and women displaying their martial arts skills, especially the techniques of Taekwondo, a Korean form of martial art.

The participants included employees of various departments in the district administration, high school girls of different government and private schools, and residential colleges. District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), in coordination with the district administration and police commissionerate, conducted the program. Through this event, the District Legal Services Authority made its way to the India Book of Records (IBR). District Legal Services Authority secretary, S Govardhan Reddy said, “Every girl and woman should learn self-defence techniques in the current times. Police Commissioner Kalmeshwar Shingenavar and Government General Hospital Superintendent Prathima Raj were among those who

participated in the program. Recognizing the mega attempt on behalf of the India Book of Records, adjudicator Vasudha Rani presented the medal and the record certificate to the organizers.

District Judge Suneetha Kunchala said the achievement could be possible due to the training and perseverance of the participating female students and women. The first such event was held on January 27, 2024, when 700 girls participated. More women joined in the training and nearly 14,000 women have been trained in martial arts so far. The two-hour program that started at 8 am at the Government Giriraj Degree College, filled the atmosphere with energy as the women performed synchronously. Taekwondo coach Manoj, senior officials from various departments, and others were present at the program.

Students between five to 15 years of age took part in the training. Addressing the gathering, District Legal Services Authority chairperson, Suneetha Kunchala said that learning self-defence techniques will help women defend themselves in the face of any unexpected attack on them or any eventuality in their lives. But these techniques should be used strictly for selfdefence. Recognizing the need for self-defence among girls and

young women, the State government is organizing self-defence training programs in government and private educational institutions. Self-defence will allow them to empower themselves, and find safety in difficult situations.

Regarding behavioural problems, district collector Rajiv Gandhi Hanumanthu said, “Women need to learn self-defence now more than ever. Self-defence training could empower girls and women to defend themselves and feel confident. Girls should also know the difference between a good touch and a bad touch and if they have any suspicion they should immediately complain to teachers and parents. Teachers should make students aware of good touch and bad touch in schools. Students should inform their family members if they face any such problem or lodge a complaint with the officials.”

The record for the maximum number of females participating in a training program on self-defence techniques was set by the District Legal Services Authority, Nizamabad, Telangana, wherein 11,100 women received the training.

Ayodhya gets the Biggest Nagada

Nagada is a Middle Eastern drum with a rounded back and a wide head. An iron nagada of 1100 kg weight became a reason for getting recognition from the Asia Book of Records (ABR) to Shiv Barat Ayojan Evam Jan Kalyan Samiti of Rewa, Madhya Pradesh. It got the title of ‘the biggest iron nagada’ due to its size, measuring 32 feet (384 inches) in diameter, and extraordinary weight. The unusual nagada, made by a Madhya Pradesh-based social organization, was gifted to the newly constructed Sri Ram temple in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh. The nagada, kept at Ayodhya Museum, is a major crowd-puller.

According to Lalmani Tiwari, General Secretary, Kashi Prant –Gau Raksha, Vishwa Hindu Parishad, “Authorities of Shiv Barat Ayojan Evam Jan Kalyan Samiti, Rewa, made the world’s biggest nagada at a cost of around Rs. 3 lakh on the occasion of Maha Shivratri. The nagada was brought to Ayodhya from Rewa on a trailer and a convoy of as many as 101 vehicles. The journey of nagada started from Baiju Dharamsala in Rewa in March 2024. After crossing Chak Ghat (Madhya Pradesh-Uttar Pradesh border) the convoy passed through Naribari, Jari, Gohaniya, Ghurpur,

Dandi, Naya Bridge, Balson crossing, Teliyarganj, Phaphamau, Soraon, and Mauaima before reaching Pratapgarh.”

The celebrated nagada was painted with pictures of Kalash (worship pots) and the words – ‘Shri Ram, Jai Ram’ in yellow and white colours. Yellow and orange flowers were also painted on the brown background of the historic musical instrument. The procession along with nagada was received well by the members of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal at places on the route from Rewa to Ayodhya. The Shiv Barat Ayojan Evam Jan Kalyan Samiti of Rewa organizes religious processions in city on the occasions of cultural and social importance. It gets in super action every year during the times of Ramlila and Shivratri among other festivals.

The nagada was kept at the museum, where people can witness its uniqueness. Meanwhile, the state government is planning to use artificial intelligence (AI) to make the museum livelier and more informative to the millions of visitors to the holy city of Ayodhya. An artificial intelligence, augmented, and virtual reality-driven services company has been designing

the Ram Katha Museum. The plan is to make a hyper-realistic statue of lord Ram which will even have AI-driven movements. The statue would also be able to speak. There will be a hyperrealistic dome with animatronics, holograms, and idol projection in one of the zones of the temple and there will be illusions of different themes. There will be an AI-driven Ramayana show with live visuals moving around the people, and a show of how Ram temple was built. The record-breaking nagada along with the AI-driven museum will surely add value to the city of Shri Ram.

Road Safety Ambassadors

India is the largest two-wheeler market in the world, where most of the roads are dominated by two-wheelers of all shapes and sizes. While two-wheelers offer affordable mobility compared to cars or SUVs, they also expose riders and pillions to significant vulnerability as road users. Having two wheels and no safety shell around, there is always risk involved when riding a motorcycle or scooter on busy urban roads. The risk can be reduced significantly by wearing proper safety gear while riding a bike. According to Section 129 of the Motor Vehicles Act 1988, all riders above the age of four need to wear a protective headgear while riding a two-wheeler of any class or description. For this reason, all two-wheeler manufacturers across India offer one complementary helmet with every new motorcycle or scooter purchase.

As per a report by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Govt of India, a total of 46,593 persons were killed due to non-wearing of helmets in the year 2021, out of which 32,877 (70.6%) persons were drivers and 13,716 (29.4%) were passengers. Additionally, non-wearing of helmets caused injuries to 93,763 people in the same year. Keeping this in mind, helmets are the most

important safety equipment. As the first and sole line of defence against head injuries, helmets protect against cranial and spinal trauma. To highlight the importance of helmets, Chittorgarh Seva Sansthan of Chittorgarh, Rajasthan, organized a mega helmet distribution and road safety training program in September 2023.

According to the organizers, a plan was chalked out to distribute IS 4151 marked helmets free of cost under the education and awareness campaign. A one-day road safety training was conducted for local youth identified by Chittorgarh Sewa Sansthan. After the training, youth were administered the road safety pledge and ultimately became the Road Safety Ambassadors (Sadak Suraksha Agradoot). The activity became a hit and created a record under the India Book of Records (IBR) and Asia Book of Records (ABR). Pushkar and Raja Mookim,

adjudicators of the record books, announced the record and presented the medals and certificates to the organizers.

A total of 18,000 people above 18 years were distributed free branded helmets titled the Namo Suraksha Kavach. They also took a pledge on road safety awareness, under the themes of ‘Badalo soch - helmet nahi hai bojh’, ‘Yuva jagrat - desh jagrat’ and ‘Yuva surakshit - desh surakshit’, at Indira Gandhi Stadium, Rithola Choraha, Chittorgarh, in a single day. The event was planned to mark the birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. BJP State President Chandra Prakash Joshi presided over the ceremony and administered the pledge to the youth, emphasizing the importance of traffic rules and helmets. Superintendent of Police Rajan Dushyant was also present at the program.

24-hours Endurance Test

Sirish Chandran, Editor of Evo India automotive magazine, invited his automobile journalist friend Kushan Mitra to join him at the National Automotive Test Tracks (NATRAX) in Madhya Pradesh’s Pithampur for a double record attempt, aiming to beat the national endurance record for the maximum distance covered in 24 hours with the support from Volkswagen India. The activity involved Volkswagen’s ‘Made in India’ Virtus sedan driving flat-out for a full day and night. Volkswagen’s mid-size SUV Taigun was also part of the endurance test. Both the models covered remarkable distance along with outstanding fuel efficiency claiming the title of the India Book of Records. It was a serious undertaking. Pushing a car to maximum speed for more than 20 hours puts tremendous strain on the machine.

Even on long drives, a vehicle is given a break every few hours and its engine is never pushed to its limits. Since a single driver cannot manage such a long duration, a team of drivers was required to rotate in shifts, usually until needed to refuel or change the tyres. The team drove the Volkswagen cars for 24 hours, starting on February 17, 2024, at 1 pm and ending on February 18, 2024, at 1 pm stopping only for driver changes and refuelling. India Book of Records’ adjudicator, Antim Kumar Jain verified the claims and after his satisfaction, announced the four records. He presented the medals and certificates to Sirish and the team.

To participate in a record attempt the drivers require a national racing licence. Open to anyone, these licenses are

issued by the Federation of Motorsports Clubs of India (FMSCI), the national body recognised by the Federation Internationale de la Automobile (FIA). A four-wheeler license costs Rs. 3,750. As its name suggests, NATRAX comprises test tracks for the Indian auto industry, which was initiated years ago by the Ministry of Heavy Industries, Govt of India. The tracks include an 11.36 km four-lane banked oval for sustaining speeds up to 250 kph. As a world-class testing and evaluation service provider, it caters to all categories of vehicles from 2/3 wheelers to heavy commercial vehicles, testing them as per the national and international standards.

Kushan Mitra said, “I was assigned to Car 1, a blue Volkswagen Virtus with a 115PS 1-litre TSI engine. We did not go for the overall record but tried to complete 24 hours on one set of tyres, which was an immense strain. Forget the engine load keeping rubber at full throttle that long is a tremendous stress test. At a time when stories of tyre-burst are common, we’d start slightly below top speed, around 180 kph, to build some confidence first with the rubber of Apollo Tyres. Besides mine, Cars 2 and 3 were also the Virtus, in burgundy red. They were gunning for the 24hour distance record. It was a super thrilling experience.”

Volkswagen Taigun covered the 11.3 km NATRAX track at high speeds, 194 kmph on average. Taigun, powered by a 115 hp, 175 Nm, 1.0-litre, three-cylinder engine, covered 4423.82 km during the 24-hour endurance drive, thus becoming the SUV with the longest distance covered within this time frame. Besides, that, the SUV achieved an impressive fuel efficiency of 29.8 km/l during the entire drive, recording the best-ever mileage by a 1.0-litre engine-powered car in 24 hours. “The drive was tough. As the setting sunlight struck, it began to come into my eyeline and I needed to fiddle with the sun visor. But I did not lose any speed and kept the car comfortably at cruise control at 185 kph. Seekho Paison Ki Bhasha, an investor education and awareness initiative, launched six months ago by Kotak Mahindra Asset Management Company Ltd (KMAMC) and Kotak Mutual Fund (KMF), covered over 52,000 Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) teachers across India. The company conducted 860 workshops in 100 locations across India, targeting A, B, and C-class towns between September 2023 and February 2024. Seekho Paiso ki Bhasha, the Investor Education Program for CBSE School Teachers, entered the prestigious Asia Book of Records and India Book of Records as the Largest Investor Education Program for CBSE School Teachers.

In a remarkable feat of dedication and perseverance, Kerala Public Service Commission (KPSC) tutor Pradeep Mukhathala (40) marked his name in the Asia Book of Records (ABR) for conducting a non-stop lecture session for a staggering 24 hours. The program, aimed at empowering aspirants for the state examinations, was held on March 9 and 10, 2024, and was hosted by the Entri education app. The class was conducted in Sana Auditorium, Kollam, Kerala. The hall was full of KPSC aspirants. The attempt involved a 24-hour continuous lecture

marathon which started at 2 pm on March 9 and continued till 2 pm the next day. The training session was for upcoming Kerala PSC examinations like Lower Division Clerk (LDC), Lower Grade Supervisor (LGS), and Civil Police Officer (CPO).

Heart transplants are performed to save the lives of patients suffering from end-stage heart failure or other severe heart conditions. However, the success of a heart transplant depends on various factors, including the patient’s overall health, the quality of the donor organ, surgical expertise, and post-transplant care. A man from Kerala was in the news recently for setting a record in the field of heart transplants. He was transplanted with the heart of a brain-dead patient. Girish Kumar PV, an IT professional and a native of Palakkad, Kerala, celebrated 10 years of his second heart transplant in the company of his doctors and well-wishers at Lisie Hospital in Kochi. He was felicitated with a medal and a record certificate by Narvijay Yadav, Adjudicator of the India Book of Records (IBR).

Kumar had undergone his first transplant at a hospital at the age of 38 in 2013. He expected life to be kind to him after the surgery. However, things took a turn when he suffered a heart attack again after eight months. The second transplant surgery, which lasted 12 hours, was performed at Lisie Hospital Kochi,

The record for being the first male to undergo two heart transplants successfully in India was set by Girish Kumar PV of Palakkad, Kerala, who completed 10 years after his second heart transplant at Lisie Hospital Kochi.

Kerala, on March 6, 2014, after he developed an infection in one of the heart valves and was admitted in a serious condition. As Dr Jose Chacko Periyapuram, the cardiothoracic surgeon who led the surgery, watched, Kumar received recognition from the India Book of Records for his fighting spirit and the 10th anniversary of his heart re-transplant surgery. He thanked all those who helped him in returning to normal life.

Kumar suffered from dilated cardiomyopathy, where heart muscles lose their elasticity and slowly get ballooned out. It’s a condition in which the heart becomes large and cannot pump

blood efficiently. He also suffered from Ankylosing Spondylitis and had a hip joint replacement eight months after the first transplant. After the second attack, the Kerala Network for Organ Sharing, an NGO, issued fervent appeals for organ donation. Soon, a doctors’ team harvested a heart from a braindead patient at the hospital.

“His first heart transplant surgery was performed in June 2013. As he was recovering after the surgery, his heart valve was damaged due to bacterial infection and he suffered a second heart attack. We informed him about the need for a second transplant, as there is a chance of recurrence of bacterial infection after valve replacement. Kumar was courageous enough to say yes to heart re-transplant surgery and the country’s first heart re-transplant surgery was held on March 6, 2014. It was a tough task. We were not sure about his second transplant. Getting a donor with the right match and age, all just fell in place at the right time. But still, it was a miracle. It was a rare and challenging procedure, looking at the world statistics,” said Dr Jose Chacko Periyapuram, senior consultant surgeon, department of cardiology, Lisie Hospital, Kochi.

“My life after the second heart surgery is normal. Struggles like these remind us how valuable life is. Everyone - the family, doctors, nurses, and friends - deserves this award. It is their care and support that helped me live this far. I am also thankful to the India Book of Records for the remarkable recognition,” said Kumar, who is an employee of Wipro, the Bengaluru-based IT company.

The constitution literacy drive, called Niyamodayam 2024 was launched in 100 selected schools across different districts of Kerala in anticipation of the Republic Day to imbibe the essence of the Constitution among the students.

Law Minister of Kerala, P Rajeev, inaugurated the drive on January 15, 2024, at Cardinal Higher Secondary School, Thrikkakara. Justice K M Joseph, Former Supreme Court judge, was the chief guest. The meticulously planned drive saw trained student squads conducting classes and coordinating activities

Transmission of Spiritual Energy

Shaktipatam or Shaktipat refers in Hinduism to the transmission of spiritual energy upon one person by another or directly from the deity. Shaktipatam can be transmitted with a sacred word or mantra, or by a look, thought, or touch. Shaktipatam is considered an act of grace (Anugraha) on the part of the guru or the divine. It cannot be imposed by force, nor can a receiver make it happen. The very consciousness of the god or guru is held to enter into the self of the disciple, constituting an initiation into the school or the spiritual family (kula) of the guru. It is held that Shaktipatam can be transmitted in person or at a distance, through an object such as a flower or fruit.
