When Determination takes Precedence Meet India’s First Fluteboxer
Sudhir’s fluteboxing journey started back in 2014. While judging a beatboxing competition, he questioned himself - what is unique about his beatboxing. He did extensive research to add an extra edge to his skill. He then stumbles upon a YouTube video of Nathan Lee; performing fluteboxing, and that caught his attention and his fluteboxing journey began.
It was not an easy start for him, simply an idea wouldn’t work, and he needed an instrument for the same. “Well, the main challenge was I could not afford the Metal Key Flute used by Nathan Lee. But that did not dissuade me from perusing, fluteboxing. I bought a basic Bamboo Flute which was for about Rs 500. I was not financially stable at that point and couldn’t even afford a music class”, says Sudhir.
He self-taught himself about the basics of playing flute, and after several months of practice, he finally figured out how to play the basic notations, and then he slowly added the beats to it. Hailing from a non-musical family it was quite challenging for him to learn music from basics, but he never gave up on his dream and with all his heart, pursued fluteboxing.
He practices at least 5-6 hours daily and sometimes even more than six hours and to date, he has participated in more than 300 shows.
Sharing few anecdotes for future musicians, he says, “First of all, always believe and have faith in yourself. Begin from the basics regardless of the genre of talent. Once you are abreast with the basics, then move on to add innovation and your style. To stand out in the crowd - innovation is a must. Lastly, always stay focused and calm with a dash of patience, as success comes to those who believe in hard work”.
With a grateful heart, Sudhir feels ecstatic to become a record-holder with the India Book of Records. He believes recognition like this motivates an artist further to innovate and pursue their dream.
