128th Birth Anniversary Celebrations of Dr. B. R Ambedkar (April 15, 2019) The 128th Birth Anniversary of Babasaheb Dr. B. R Ambedkar was celebrated by the Consulate General of India, Vancouver in partnership with the Chetna Association of Canada in the Consulate premises on April 15, 2019. Consul General Mrs. Abhilasha Joshi welcomed the gathering and paid tributes to the life and achievements of Dr. Ambedkar. Mr Jai Birdi, General Secretary of Chetna Association coordinated the program. Mr. Surinder Ranga, President of Chetna association; Mr. Bill Basra, President of Shri Guru Ravidass Sabha; Mr. Param Kainth from Ambedkarite International Coordination Society; Mr. Virinder Bangar from Shri 108 Sant Sarwan Das Charitable Trust; Ms. Manjit Bains and Mr. Surjit Bains also spoke on the occasion. Ms. Sasha Sabharwal, young research scholar from Yale University, addressed the gathering and highlighted the role played by Babasaheb in uplifting the weaker and marginalized sections of society. The program ended with light refreshments and interaction amongst the gathered guests.
Vaisakhi Celebration at Gurudwara Nanak Niwas, Richmond (April 14, 2019) Consul General Mrs. Abhilasha Joshi attended the Vaisakhi Celebrations along with Consul CPV Mr. H. Venkatachalam at the Gurudwara Nanak Niwas, India Cultural Centre at Richmond on 14 th April, 2019. Prominent pioneer and philanthropist Asa Singh Johal and his family have contributed significantly to this Sikh temple.

Cultural Heritage - Festivals of India Hanuman Jayanti (April 19) The holy Hanuman Jayanti or Hanumath Jayanti festival celebrates the birth of Hanuman as per Hindu calendar, one of the prominent heroes of the Indian super epic Ramayana. Hanuman Jayanti is observed in the Chaitra lunar month where a number of spiritual discourses are held in a majority of Hindu temples. This festival is celebrated with immense devotion by Hindus of all hues and in particular by the devotees of Hanuman or Hanuman Bhakts. The different aspects of Hanuman are remembered and worshipped on Hanuman Jayanti festival day. An ancient saying from Indian tradition says that if you want Lord Rama to terminate all your sorrows, you can reach Him only through Lord Hanuman and Hanuman Jayanti is a perfect day for this. Well, God Hanuman is immensely powerful and an absolute devotee of Lord Rama. He is the granter of happiness and destroyer of problems. Easter (April 21) Popularly called Easter Sunday, this festival is mainly a dedicated festival of the religion of Christianity. Like in other parts of India, this festival is considered to be a day of significant respect among the Catholics of Goa. In the lives of the Catholics residing in that state, this day is important for culminating an observance called Lent. This Lent is generally observed during the months of February and March. Starting from the Ash Wednesday, it stretches for 40 days and ends on Good Friday. Easter Sunday follows this Good Friday. This is one of the major annual festivals in India. Initially known as 'God's Friday', the present name of 'Good Friday' is said to have emerged during the 10th century or the 11th Century. The popular belief that Jesus Christ rose from the grave on the Sunday that followed the crucifixion day. This Sunday is popularly celebrated as Easter Sunday. "Virtual reality centre" a reality - shall boost indigenous warship design capabilities New Delhi: Admiral Sunil Lanba, PVSM, AVSM, ADC the Chief of the Naval Staff, inaugurated the maiden ‘state-of-the-art’ Virtual Reality Centre (VRC) at the Directorate of Naval Design (Surface Ship Group), today.
