Make in India (April 26, 2019) Consulate General of India organised ‘Make in India’ event in association with the Canada India Global Forum, BC on April 26, 2019 at the Consulate premises in Vancouver. Consul General Mrs. Abhilasha Joshi made a presentation on Make in India initiative and how India has emerged as a manufacturing hub in recent years. Mr. Aditya Tawatia, President of Canada India Global Forum, BC; Mr. George Chow, Minister of State for Trade, BC; Mr. Stewart G. Beck, President & CEO of Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada and Former Canadian High Commissioner to the Republic of India, spoke on the occasion. Three Canadian companies showcased their interest in India viz Mr. Bernard Armani and Mr. Sudhir Sharma from BIOIQ Diagnostics; Mr. Ian Kent, President & CEO of NOMAD Micro Homes and Ms. Chloe Dubois, Co-founder & President of Ocean Legacy Foundation. They gave presentations on Bio-Medical Diagnostics, Affordable Housing and Waste Recycle respectively.

Cultural Heritage - Festivals of India Akshaya Tritiya (May 07) Akshaya Tritiya is a very popular festival that the Hindus and Jains celebrate every year. It is considered as one of the most important days for Hindu community as it is the day of the birth of the Lord Parasurama. The Hindu community considers this day as a lucky day and believes that any venture such as a business or the construction of a building started on that day will follow betterment and prosperity. Akshaya Tritiya is a one day event celebrated in late April or early May. Hindus celebrate this day because, according to them, Akshaya Tritiya is the day when the great God of Wisdom, God Ganesha, started writing the epic work called "Mahabharata". It is believed that when the Pandavas were in exile the Lord presented them a bowl which was named Akshaya Tritiya. That bowl was never empty and produces an unlimited amount of food on demand. Indian pharma exports hit US$ 19.14 bn, report double-digit growth after 3 yrs Hyderabad: Pharmaceutical Export Promotion Council (Pharmexcil)'s year-end report has pegged the total pharma exports from India at $19.14 billion for 2018-19 with a growth of 10.72 per cent over $17.28 billion in pharma exports last year. The double-digit growth has returned to pharma exports after three years of flat-to-marginal export growth, driven by formulations exports to North America among other destinations, according to the report. IOC's R&D centre patent filing crosses 1,000-mark New Delhi: State-owned Indian Oil Corp (IOC) Tuesday said its research and development centre at Faridabad has become the first public sector oil and gas company to cross the milestone of filing 1,000 patents.
