The Canada - India Education Council Summit (May 18, 2019) Consul General, Mrs. Abhilasha Joshi was delighted to speak at the Canada - India Education Council Summit on May 18, 2019 in Vancouver. Ministers Bruce Ralston and Jinny Sims also spoke on the occasion. Representatives from a large number of universities and colleges in BC participated in the summit.

Consul General, Mrs. Abhilasha Joshi and Consul Commerce, Mr. Manjish Grover meeting Ms. Susmmita Das (Biswas), Joint Director & Head Foreign Trade, Indian Chamber of Commerce and Mr. Rex Anthony from Indian Chamber of Commerce. Indian Chamber Of Commerce is leading the Indian delegation (more than 20 companies) for bilateral trade in Canada Gas & LNG Conference and Exhibition, Vancouver. (May 21-23, 2019)

Inauguration of India pavilion in Canada Gas & LNG Conference and Exhibition (May 21, 2019) Consul Commerce, Mr. Manjish Grover along with Vice Consul Commerce, Mrs. Sunila Krishnan inaugurated the India Pavilion in Canada Gas & LNG Conference and Exhibition, Vancouver on May 21, 2019. More than 20 companies from India are participating in the Canada Gas & LNG exhibition for three days (May 21 – 23, 2019). The Delegation lead by Susmmita Das (Biswas), Joint Director & Head - Foreign Trade, Indian Chamber of Commerce and is supported by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India under MAI Scheme. Mr. Grover also delivered a welcome speech at the conference. Mr. Anujit Kumar Mukherjee, Dy. MD, Integrated Fire Protection Pvt. Ltd. delivered a very informative Industry Perspective on “What Canadian LNG Industry really means for Asian Importers?”. Mr. Aditya Tawatia, President of Canada-India Global forum, talked about investment opportunities in India specifically in Gas and LNG sector as part of “Make in India” initiative.

Indian economy projected to grow at 7.1% in FY20: UN report India's economy is projected to grow at 7.1 per cent in fiscal year 2020 on the back of strong domestic consumption and investment but the GDP growth is a downward revision from the 7.4 per cent estimated in January this year, according to a report by the United Nations. The World Economic Situation and Prospects (WESP) 2019 Mid-year Update, released here Tuesday, said that the Indian economy, which generates two-thirds of the regional output in South Asia, expanded by 7.2 per cent in 2018. "Strong domestic consumption and investment will continue to support growth, which is projected at 7.0 per cent in 2019 and 7.1 per cent in 2020," the report said. India successfully launches RISAT-2B Earth-Observation satellite India's space agency successfully launched a new Earth-observation satellite today (May 21), boosting the nation's space-based surveillance capabilities. The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) used a Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle designated PSLV-C46 to launch its third radar imaging satellite, named RISAT-2B, from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, India. The rocket lifted off at 8 p.m. EDT (0000 GMT, or 5:30 a.m. local time on May 22) just as the sun began to rise over the Bay of Bengal. 4. Kerala’s Organic Farmers Association wins International Award for innovative farming methods Kerala’s Jaiva Karshaka Samithi (Kerala Organic Farmers Association) has won Organic Medal of Honour, conferred by International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movement (IFOAM) Asia in South Korea, in association with Xichong Municipal corporation based in China, reported The News Minute. The award will be presented on May 30, in Xichong China. The award comes with a certificate, gold medal and prize money worth USD 5,000, i.e., Rs 3.5 lakh. 5. 23-year-old Uttarakhand woman scales Mount Everest Mountaineer Sheetal Raj, 23, has become one of the youngest women to scale Mount Everest, the highest peak in the world, it was officially announced May 16. In 2018, Raj, who hails from Pithoragarh district, had scaled Kanchenjunga peak, thus becoming the youngest Indian woman to scale the world's third highest peak. Indian peacekeeper to be honoured posthumously with UN medal An Indian peacekeeper is among the 119 military, police and civilian personnel who will be honoured this year with a prestigious UN medal this year for courage and sacrifice in the line of duty. Police Officer Jitender Kumar made the supreme sacrifice while serving in the UN Organisation Stabilisation Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO).
