This programme is open to 3rd generation youth/children [between the ages of 18-30 years] of Indian origin PIO/OCI Card holders who have never visited India before.

Minimum qualification required for participating in KIP is Graduation from a recognized University /Institute or enrolled for Graduation; knowledge of English essential – will have to show required documents in this regard.

5th International Day of Yoga Celebration (June 21, 2019) 5th International Day of Yoga was celebrated on 21st June 2019 by the Consulate in partnership with India Cultural Association - ICA of Vancouver, BC and the Gathering Place Community Centre at the scenic David Lam Park, Vancouver next to the waterfront. Hon’ble Jinny Sims, Minister of Citizens Services, BC inaugurated the event while Consul General Mrs. Abhilasha Joshi and Mr. Neeraj Kumar, President ICA welcomed the gathering. Yoga instructors Kiran Rampuri and Tarana Kaur demonstrated the Common Yoga Protocol and led the yoga session. The yoga session was accompanied by the soothing sounds of sitar played by Ms. Anju Bedi. MC Ms. Vasundhara Rawat anchored the evening while Consul (Commerce) & HOC Manjish Grover delivered the Vote of Thanks. The well attended yoga event concluded with satvik vegetarian refreshments. Celebrations continued until sunset with the summer solstice parade.

International Yoga Festival and Health Expo Vancouver (June 16, 2019)
Memorial Service of Victims of Air India Bombing held at Stanley Park (June 23, 2019) A memorial service was organized by the families of those who lost their loved ones in the heinous terrorist attack on AI flight 182 in 1985, in which all 329 on board lost their lives. 331 names, including of 2 baggage handlers who lost their lives in Narita Tokyo airport, in the twin terror plot, are inscribed on the AI Memorial wall at Ceperley Park within the Stanley Park, Vancouver. The memorial was unveiled in 2007 and every year, families gather to remember their loved ones. Head Granthi of KDS Ross St Sikh Temple (Khalsa Diwan Society Vancouver, BC) led the gathering in prayer. Minister Mr. Adrian Dix conducted the remembrance service. Dy Minister Mr. George Chow and former MLA Mr. Dave Hayer were present. Consul General Mrs. Abhilasha Joshi joined the family members on this solemn occasion and paid homage to the memory of those who lost their lives and condemned this cowardly act of terror.
IC-IMPACTS hosted Indian and Canadian researchers meet at University of British Columbia to discuss research advances in Infrastructure, Water & Health and to promote their deployment in Canada’s First Nations. Consul General Mrs. Abhilasha Joshi attended the event. (June 20, 2019)

Mehta, Vice Consul Mr. Sudhir Kumar Sharma and Vice Consul Mr. Navin Nodiyal on completion of their tenure at CGI, Vancouver and warmly welcomed Vice Consul Mr. Rajinder Kumar, Vice Consul Mr. Virender Kumar Jatav, ASO Mr. Dilwar Singh and IBSA officer Mr. Surinder Kumar on joining the Post.
Cultural Heritage - Festivals of India Puri Rath Yatra Festival (July 4-15, 2019) The Puri Rath Yatra festival (locally called Ratha Jatra) is based around the worship of Lord Jagannath, a reincarnation of lords Vishnu and Krishna. It commemorates his annual visit to his birthplace, Gundicha Temple, and aunt's home along with his elder brother Balabhadra and sister Subhadra. The festival is celebrated at the Jagannath Temple in Puri, Odisha. Puri is approximately an hour and a half from capital city Bhubaneshwar. As per the traditional Odia calendar, the Rath Yatra begins on the second day of Shukla Paksha (waxing phase of the moon or bright fortnight) of the Hindu lunar month of Ashadha. In 2019, it commences on July 4 and ends on July 15. Once every nine to 19 years, when the month of Ashadha is followed by another month of Ashadha (known as "doubleAshadha"), a rare and special Nabakalebar ritual takes place. News from/of India 1. ‘Better rural roads led to job opportunities in India’: World Bank report A World Bank report has hailed India’s rural road scheme, saying it has improved mobility, increased access to economic opportunities and boosted attendance of children in schools. It also claims the number of babies delivered at home has come down substantially in areas connected through rural roads, a major improvement in the health sector. 2. IIT-H team improves solar cell efficiency Researchers at the Indian Institute of Technology, Hyderabad (IIT-H), have developed a novel process to improve the performance of third generation solar cells. Working with Dye Sensitised Solar Cells (DSSCs), they have shown that the incorporation of magnetic nanoparticles (Fe3O4) in the anode can enhance light-to-power conversion efficiencies. There is much promise for DSSCs due to cost and environmental benefits and it is expected that with improvements in performance, DSSCs could outdo mature silicon-based solar cells. Meet the 'Rocket Women of India' Who are Going to be Steering Chandrayaan-2 On Wednesday, the ISRO announced that Chandrayaan-2, India's second mission to the moon, will be launched on July 15 at 2.15 AM from Sriharikota. This particular mission is an advancement of Chandrayaan-1, which was launched a decade ago. Chandrayaan-2 will scale the lunar surface and gather intel on minerals, rock formations and water. It will also be the first interplanetary mission that has a woman Project Director and a woman Mission Director. In fact, thirty percent of the team in charge of the mission is composed of women.
