Cultural Heritage - Festivals of India PHYANG TSEDUP FESTIVAL (July 30, 2019) 30th-31th July 2019--- will mark the beginning of the prominent Phyang Tsedup Festival. It is celebrated in Phyang Monastery in Ladakh (19.1 km from Leh) and dedicated to Jigten Gombo, founder of Dringumpa Monastic Dynasty. Witness smiling Lamas in vibrant attire and portraying different characters of the dance drama. Thankha of Jigten Gombo is also worshipped and marks the triumph of good over the evil. However, dance remains the centre of attraction. Monks wearing rich silk costumes perform Chham and worship their deity. This festival is especially remarked for the enthusiasm and energy. The Phyang tsedup Festival is held on the 2nd and 3rd day of the 6th month of Tibetan Calendar which usually falls in JulyAugust. Some ritual offerings are burnt on the 2nd day and the Storma is destroyed to conclude the procession. Masks steal the limelight of the festival. NASA congratulates ISRO on Chandrayaan 2 launch, seeks to learn about lunar South Pole NASA on Monday congratulated Indian space agency ISRO on the successful launch of its second moon mission Chandrayaan-2 and said it was looking forward to learn from the mission about the unexplored lunar south pole. India’s quest to land its first spacecraft on the moon got off to a smooth start on Monday afternoon, with the successful launch of Chandrayaan-2 mission aboard the country’s most powerful rocket. 3. India’s second Moon Mission: Women and men who made Chandrayaan-2 possible The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) scientists successfully launched Chandrayaan-2 on Monday, July 22. Apart from the fact that Chandrayaan-2 carries powerful GSLV-MkIII-M1 launch vehicle, called Baabubali, and is India’s first lander mission to explore the unexplored south pole of the Moon, it is a first time that a project in ISRO is directed by a woman. 5. Andaman IFS officer replaces plastic in dept. nursery; Uses bamboo to plant 500 saplings! Back in school, we would have an annual tree plantation programme. Students would form groups to plant saplings either in the school premises or a hilltop nearby. The trips would be very well-organised, with every student in every group responsible for a specific task like fetching a sickle, the water can, and the saplings, usually in a plastic bag. At the end of the day, we would collect all the plastic in one big bag. We were all children, following what the teachers instructed us to do but even then, we understood that there is something wrong with so much plastic being involved in a tree plantation programme.
