Consulate News Consular Camps in November 2019 by the Consulate General of India
Inviting Nominations of the groups for the participation in the 6th Edition of the International Folk Dance & Music Festival being organized by ICCR from 2-4 December 2019 at New Delhi. Any Folk group (maximum 10-12 members) for consideration of their participation in the above Festival would be encouraged. Preference will be given to a group which has not visited India earlier. Besides performance in the Festival in Delhi, ICCR would also explore the possibility of organizing additional performance/s of the selected group in one or two other cities in India. Depending on the performances arranged, the group could be in India for 7-8 days. The duration of the performance could be approximately 45 minutes in Delhi while the duration in other cities could be between 60-75 minutes. 2. The group could be invited under or outside the bilateral C.E.P. ICCR will provide facilitationofgrantofentry visa for India, local hospitality including board/lodging, intercity and local transportation; all costs on presentation of programmes includingvenue, technical and publicity for organizing the Festival. 3. Send your nominations to com.vancouver@mea.gov.in. Last date of nomination by Wednesday, 23 October 2019.

Cultural Heritage - Festivals of India Diwali (October 27, 2019) Diwali, the biggest festival in India, celebrates Lord Ram and his wife Sita returning to their kingdom of Ayodhya after Ram and monkey god Hanuman defeated demon king Ravan and rescued Sita from his evil clutches (on Dussehra). Lots of small clay lamps (called diyas) and candles are lit and placed in houses, and fireworks are let off everywhere, giving Diwali its name as "Festival of Lights".

Bhandara Festival (October 28, 2019) This festival involves an astonishing amount of turmeric being thrown all over the temple premises by energetic devotees, who also sing and dance. At noon, the temple deity is taken out in procession and given a holy bath in the nearby river, which is the main highlight of the occasion. The festival happens on Somvati Amavasya. This is a new moon day that falls on a Monday. It usually occurs two or three times a year.
