The 4th Grand Diwali Gala Celebration by BC-India Business Network (October 11, 2019) BC-India Business Network’s fourth annual signature event “The Grand Diwali Gala” was celebrated on Friday, October 11, 2019, at Fairmont Waterfront Hotel, Vancouver. Diwali is one of the most significant festivals in Indian culture, which is also known as the festival of lights and celebrates the victory of good over evil. With a large Indian diaspora, Diwali is now celebrated all over the world with great enthusiasm. Consul General, Mrs Abhilasha Joshi along with Hon. John Horgan, Premier of British Columbia and other dignitaries from B.C. government attended this India’s traditional Celebration of Lights to strengthen the synergy between India and Canada. Kudos to Mr. Vivek Savkur, President and CEO of BC India Business Network for organizing such a successful celebration.

PUCA delegation met Consul General of India in BC, Canada A delegation of Punjab Unaided Colleges Association (PUCA) met Consul General of India, Mrs Abhilasha Joshi at Consulate General of India, Vancouver on 18 Oct 2019. The delegation was led by President, PUCA, Dr. Anshu Kataria. Sh. Krishna Murty, Member, Canada International Education Consortium was also present on the occasion. Mrs Abhilasha Joshi welcomed the delegation. Sh. Manjish Grover, Consul, Head of Chancery, Commerce & Culture was also present on the occasion. While addressing the delegation he assured full support to the delegation during their stay in British Columbia, Canada. Mrs Joshi appealed the delegation to spread maximum awareness of MADAD Portal among the students of Punjab. It is to be mentioned that the online portal was created by the Ministry of External Affairs, Govt of India to ease the Indian citizens living abroad with a special section for Indian students abroad. The 15 members delegation of PUCA was recently flagged off by the Higher Education Minister of Punjab, Sh. Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa with an aim of strategic tie ups and international collaborations. The delegation is visiting colleges and universities in BC. Thanksgiving reception for the success of Namaste Canada 2019 (October 23, 2019) The Consulate General of India organized a thanksgiving reception to celebrate the successful organization of its annual flagship event 'Namaste Canada 2019 edition' which was held on 31st August, 2019 at Massey Theater in New Westminster. Consul General Abhilasha Joshi, while speaking on the occasion, thanked the members of the participating Indian Associations and Societies, Members of the Namaste Canada Organization Committees, Media Partners, artistes, members of the Consulate and all other supporters for their invaluable collaboration and hard work in making this year's Namaste Canada a huge success. Consul General also took the opportunity to wish everyone present a prosperous and happy Diwali.

Cultural Heritage - Festivals of India Tawang Festival (October 29-31, 2019) The annual Tawang Festival is organized by the Arunachal Pradesh Tourism Department to showcase the culture of the state and promote adventure tourism. Chhath Puja (November 3, 2019) This north Indian festival, traditionally celebrated by the people of Bihar, is devoted to worshiping the sun. People flock to the water's edge to offer prayers to the Sun God at sunset. Hymns and folk songs are sung, and women fast and pray for the wellbeing of their family and friends.
Where: Across India, particularly in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, Assam, and West Bengal. The banks of the Ganges River in Varanasi are another excellent tourist place to see it. A Chhath Puja also takes place on Juhu beach in Mumbai.

4. Indian Railways: Providing equal opportunities to women Pritilata Mondal is a railway mechanic. She works at the railway yard of the Santragachi station of the South Eastern Railways. Earlier this year, the railway authorities released a video of her day at work on YouTube. It was about how she got a job in the railways, how she was recruited as a mechanic though she had no technical knowledge about wagons, how she inspects wagons, repairs glitches and hammers the nuts and bolts back in place and so on and so forth. Says the chief public relations officer of the South Eastern Railways, Sanjay Ghosh, “In our division, we have employed many women who do tough mechanical and technical jobs. There is nothing that a woman cannot do.
