12th Know Goa Programme The 12th Know Goa Programme is scheduled to be held from 04th to 18th January, 2020. It is intended for young professionals in the age group of 21 to 30 years who have distinguished themselves in various fields and who have shown an abiding interest in Goa and India. During their visit, the participants will get an opportunity to visit premier educational, cultural, historical and other places of interest, besides interacting with local Goans, elected representatives at all levels, as well as Government dignitaries like Hon’ble Governor of Goa, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Goa, Hon’ble Speaker of the Goa Legislative Assembly, Hon’ble Commissioner for NRI Affairs, etc. The participants during their visit to New Delhi will get an opportunity to see World Heritage Monuments like the Red Fort, Taj Mahal, etc. The Government of Goa will bear 90% of the total cost of the lowest economy air fare from the home country of the participant to India and back besides entire cost of local travel, accommodation and meals. Applications are solicited from interested youth in the prescribed format. Deepavali Celebrations by Vancouver Area Telugu Association (November 02, 2019) Vancouver Area Telugu Association organized Deepavali Celebration on Saturday, November 02, 2019 at Royal Place Banquet Hall, Burnaby. Consul Commerce Mr. Manjish Grover attended the celebration which was also graced by dignitaries from the B.C. Government and The City of Burnaby. Mr. Grover addressed the gathering and wished everyone Happy Deepavali and Prosperous New Year on the eve of India’s traditional Celebration of Lights. He also congratulated Mr. RamaKrishna Vodnala, President of VATA and the members of the Telugu Association for a wonderful celebration which comprised inter alia cultural performances by talented youngsters.

Consular Camps (November 2, 3, 2019) Teams of officers from Consulate visited different venues in Vancouver, Surrey and Abbotsford on 2 and 3 November and organized Consular Camps to attest the life certificates of pensioners. These camps were held in Khalsa Diwan Society Ross Sikh Temple in Vancouver, Ex-Servicemen Society Office in Surrey on Saturday, 2 November and Laxmi Narayan Temple in Surrey, Heritage Gurudwara in Abbotsford on Sunday, 3 November 2019. A total of 1621 Life Certificates were attested during these consular camps which is 300 more than last year. These consular visits were highly appreciated by the Indian diaspora, including Canadian citizens of Indian origin and Indian citizens in Canada on various status such as visitor, work permit, PR, etc. The above attestation of life certificate were in addition to the same service being provided in the Consulate on every working day.

Cultural Heritage - Festivals of India Guru Nanak Jayanti (November 12, 2019) This festival marks the birthday of Guru Nanak Jayanti. He is the founder of Sikhism. On November 12th, the golden Temple in Amritsar will be decorated with numerous lights. A holy book will be taken in a procession out of the temple. It will be followed by numerous musicians and people. Even if you had missed the festival, drive through the Golden Temple during night to witness the gorgeous glowing temple on the water. It is a great sight to watch.

Bali Jatra (November 12-22, 2019) The Bali Jatra (voyage to Bali) festival commemorates the ancient era of maritime exploration and trade in Odisha, which saw merchants reach as far as Bali in the 2nd century BC. When the northeast monsoon wind shifted direction around Kartik Purnima, the merchants would set sail for Indonesia. Nowadays, families place paper boats with oil lamps in the water at sunrise and watch them sail away. There will be cultural programs, and a large fair with food stalls and handicrafts.

36th International Geological Congress (IGC) on 2-8 March, 2020 in Delhi NCR, India India with the support of its neighboring countries is hosting the prestigious 36th International Geological Congress (IGC) during 2-8th March, 2020 in NCR-Delhi at India Exposition Mart Ltd, Greater Noida-201305. Acknowledged as the Olympics of Geoscience Conferences, IGCs are held quadrennially under the aegis of the International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS). 2. India had the privilege of organizing the 22nd session of International Geological Congress at New Delhi in 1964. This was the first IGC in Asia. India along with its neighboring countries won the bid for 36th IGC in 2012 at Brisbane, Australia. With this, the IGC is returning to Indian subcontinent after a gap of 56 years. 3. The 36th IGC is expected to have a congregation of more than 6000 delegates from India and abroad participating in its Science Program, Field Trips, Geo Expo, and Business Meetings.
