Yearlong Celebration of 550th Anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev ji (November 28, 2019) As part of the yearlong celebrations of 550th Parkash Guru Purab of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the Consulate General of India organized on 28th November, 2019 a talk on the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev. The event which was held at the Consulate Hall, was organised in collaboration with Khalsa Diwan Society, Vancouver and Khalsa Diwan Society Surrey. Shri Harminder Singh ji, Head Granthi of Ross Street Gurudwara shared with the guests the essence of Guru Nanak Dev ji’s teachings. Consul General Mrs. Abhilasha Joshi welcomed the guests and explained the importance of having a yearlong celebration of 550th Parkash Guru Purab in India and across the world. Other speakers during the occasion included Hon. Jinny Sims, MLA for Surrey Panorama, Sh. Malkiat Singh Dhami, President of KDS Vancouver, Sh. Pahwa from KDS Surrey, Sh. Sohpaul, President of Shri Guru Ravidass Sabha and Sh. Aditya Tawatia of Canada India Global Forum. Consul General Abhilasha Joshi also presented to KDS Vancouver and KDS Surrey, a series of special commemorative stamps and first day cover brought out by India Post to mark the 550th Parkash Guru Purab. Another highlight of the program was the music performance by the artistes of Naad Foundation - Amarjeet Singh on tabla, Dr. Bruce Harding on flute and Pavittar Singh on Esraj, who enthralled the audience by their enchanting performance of Indian classical ragas.

The Constitution Day Celebrations (November 26, 2019) The officers & staff of The Consulate General of India, Vancouver honored the Indian Constitution by celebrating the Constitution Day with the reading of The Preamble to The Constitution, The fundamental Rights & Duties of the Indian Citizens.

The Constitution Day celebrations in association with Shri Guru Ravidass Sabha, Vancouver (November 26, 2019) The 70th anniversary of the adoption of Indian Constitution was celebrated at the Consulate General of India in collaboration with Shri Guru Ravidass Sabha, Vancouver. Consul Shri H. Venkatachalam addressed the gathering and talked about the Preamble, Fundamental Rights and Duties of Indian citizens and how the Indian Constitution enshrines and celebrates Democracy. Other speakers included Mr. Harjeet Sohpaul, President of Shri Guru Ravidass Sabha, Mr. Bill Basra, past President, Mr. Jai Birdi, Secretary General of Chetna Association and Ms. Manjeet Bains, all of whom also paid tribute to the Father of Indian Constitution Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar. A short documentary on the Indian Constitution was screened at the occasion as well as a video message by the members of Guru Ravidass Sabha on the importance of Indian Constitution.

Konark Festival (December 1-5, 2019) The official Konark Festival, organized by Odisha Tourism, has a range of classical Odissi, Bharathnatyam, Manipuri, Kathak and Chau dance performances.
