Greetings from Consulate General of India, Vancouver. 2. The Consulate is inviting 'Expressions of Interest' from all Indian Associations/Societies who wish to perform/partner in 'Namaste Canada 2018'. The following may please be noted in this regard: • • • •
Namaste Canada 2018 will be held in September for one day only with an opening session of around 45 minutes and two sessions of 2 1/2 hrs each separated by 15 minutes intermission; Only dance and musical performances [preferably in group] will be accepted for Namaste Canada 2018; Only one item per Association [their best] with duration of 5-7 minutes will be accepted with no duplicacy over the form of performance; We propose to do a theme-based event this year, preferably, "Dances of India" to showcase each state/region of India.
3. All Indian Associations/Societies wishing to perform in NC 2018 may please send their preferred 'Form of Performance' [at least two or three forms] latest by 16 March 2018 at indiaculsec@telus.net. Associations that have not partnered with the Consulate for either NC 2016 or 2017 need to also fill up and forward the enclosed form. 4. The First Organizing Committee Meeting for Namaste Canada 2018 will be held soon [probably Thursday, 22 March 2018]. Associations/Societies interested in becoming a part of the Organizing Committee of NC 2018 may also forward a mail to that effect at indiaculsec@telus.net also by 16 March 2018. Proforma for Participating Organizations Incredible India Interactive Seminar (March 05, 2018), Vancouver To promote India Tourism in Canada, The India Tourism, Toronto and Services International organized Incredible India presentation and an interactive evening on March 05, 2018 at Salam Bombay Indian Cuisine, Vancouver. Mr. Jasbir Singh, Consul & Head of Chancery addressed the gathering. Mr. Singh highlighted the emerging positive trends in Tourism. He also drew attention to the facility of e-visa, increase in medical tourism and a brief introduction to the consular services being rendered by the consulate.

Recommendations/nominations for Presidential Award of Certificate of Honour to Sanskrit, Oriya, Kannada, Telugu and Malayalam scholars The Scheme for the Award of the Certificates of Honours was introduced in the year 1958 to honour the scholars of Sanskrit, Arabic and Persian languages and extended to cover Classical Oriya, Classical Kannada, Classical Telugu and Classical Malayalam from the year 2016. Under this Scheme, a Certificate of Honour along with a onetime monetary grant of Rs.5,00,000/- (Approx. 7700 USD) each is awarded to Scholars of eminence over 60 years of age with outstanding contribution in the field of each of these languages. 2. The scheme also provides for one International Award of Certificate of Honour to a Non-resident Indian or person of nonIndian origin with outstanding contributions in the field of Sanskrit and Two International Awards (one each for person of Indian and Non-Indian Origin) in each of the languages of Classical Oriya, Classical Kannada, Classical Telugu and Classical Malayalam. These prestigious Awards are presented by the Hon’ble President of India. 3. Cultural – Heritage Tourism in India Ellora Caves (1983), Maharashtra The Ellora caves, locally known as ‘Verul Leni’ is located on the Aurangabad-Chalisgaon road at a distance of 30 km northnorthwest of Aurangabad, the district headquarters. The name Ellora itself inspires everyone as it represents one of the largest rock-hewn monastic-temple complexes in the entire world. Ellora is also world famous for the largest single monolithic excavation in the world, the great Kailasa (Cave 16). The visit to these caves is enjoyed maximum during monsoon, when every stream is filled with rainwater, and the entire environ is lush green. The monsoon is not only a season of rains in this part, the local visitors are attracted to visit these ideal locations to have a glimpse of the mother nature in full bloom. The caves are hewn out of the volcanic basaltic formation of Maharasthra, known as ‘Deccan Trap’, the term trap being of Scandinavian origin representing the step like formation of the volcanic deposits. The rock formation, on weathering has given rise to the appearance of terraces with flat summits. At Ellora, one can also have a glimpse of the channels (near Cave 32) through which the volcanic lava once flowed. These channels, due to overheating, have a characteristic brownish red colour. Similar rock was used in the construction of the Grishneshwar Temple nearby and also utilised for the flooring of the pathways at Bibi-ka-Maqbara. The Ellora Caves entered the UNESCO world heritage list in 1983.

Delhi, Mumbai and Hyderabad among world's best airports The airports of Delhi, Mumbai and Hyderabad have become number one airport in their respective categories in the Airport Service Quality (ASQ) ratings for the year conducted by Airports Council International (ACI). While Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) and Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport have both become world’s number 1 airport in the highest category - over 40 million passengers per annum (MPPA) – Hyderabad airport has become number one in the 5-15 million passengers per annum category for the year 2017. Indian carriers ready to splurge on new planes in booming aviation market Indian carriers will have an order book of more than 1,000 aircraft - the third-largest in the world after the US and China. With roughly 550 commercial aircraft in service now, the new acquisition will translate into 2.2 planes on order for every single aircraft in service. Day One of the Hyderabad aero show was all about these lofty numbers, as top aviation executives spoke about their ambitious expansion plans. The industry captains, including Vistara Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Leslie Thng, AirAsia India CEO Amar Abrol, and Jet Airways CEO Vinay Dube, were all there at Begumpet Airport in Hyderabad for ‘Wings India 2018’, a prominent exhibition for the aviation industry. So far 80% bank accounts, 60% mobile connections linked with Aadhaar: UIDAI A month before the expiry of the deadline, around 80 per cent of bank accounts and 60 per cent of mobile connections have been linked with national biometric identifier Aadhaar, according to a senior official at UIDAI. The government has mandated submission of the 12-digit unique identity number by every bank account holder by March 31, 2018 to weed out unaccounted wealth. For the same purpose, Aadhaar linking with income-tax permanent account number or PAN has also been made mandatory. By March 31, all mobile SIM cards are also to be linked with Aadhaar to establish the identity of mobile phone users. 5. 25-Year-Old From Bihar Set to Become ITBP’s First Woman Combat Officer! ITBP, the border guarding force, was the last among the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) to begin the process of inducting women officers in combat roles after the Ministry of Home Affairs began the process in 2016. Thus far, only women of constable rank were inducted by the ITBP in combat roles. Speaking to the Press Trust of India, Prakriti said that she always wanted to serve in uniform. “I always wanted to don the uniform and serve the country. My father, who is in the Indian Air Force, has always been an inspiration for me. I opted for the ITBP as my first choice,” she said. Already equipped with B Tech degree in electrical engineering, she cleared the Union Public Service Commission exam for officers’ recruitment in the CAPFs after her very first attempt. “I read a news piece in March 2016 that the government had for the first time allowed women to serve as combat officers in the ITBP and then decided that I would opt for this force once I get selected,” said Prakriti.
