New Delhi, Aug 28 (IANS): The Union Education Ministry has invited world’s top ranking universities to set up their campuses in India. Indian embassies spread across the world have approached top varsities, telling them that they will be given full freedom to decide the curriculum. However, foreign universities in India will have to follow some rules that are being set by the ministry. According to the ministry, once these rules are approved, online applications will be invited from foreign institutions wishing to set up their campuses in India. An expert committee will also be constituted for this. The University Grants Commission (UGC) within a month will bring out a rule book for setting up campuses in India. According to the UGC, on the basis of the recommendations of the expert committee, the ‘fee structure’ at the Indian campuses of these foreign universities will be decided keeping in mind the affordability of the students. According to UGC Chairman Professor M. Jagadesh Kumar, the interest of the country as well as the universities will be kept in mind while framing the rules and regulations. Foreign universities setting up their campuses in India will be given substantial freedom. They would be allowed to operate according to their own policy in terms of curriculum scheduling as well as faculty appointments. Significantly, many higher education institutions in India have started exchange programmes with worldclass foreign universities. IIT Delhi said that they have tied up with a major Australian university for a special PhD programme. Under the agreement, students enrolled in Australia will study in Australia for 3 years while for the fourth year they will have to come to IIT Delhi for further studies. Similarly, students admitted to IIT Delhi will study at IIT Delhi for 3 years and will be provided an opportunity to go to Australia in the fourth year of their courses. In a significant initiative, dual degree programme has also been approved in collaboration with Indian and foreign universities. Meanwhile, additional 25 per cent seats would also be created in Indian higher education institutions for foreign students. As many as 250 foreign institutions in 60 countries have been identified for the dual degree programme. Under this, norms have been relaxed to enable Indian institutions to create additional seats for foreign students. According to the ministry, the previous government’s efforts to invite foreign universities were stalled due to lack of consensus on subjects such as regulations, faculty, fees and academic curriculum. The UGC Chairman has said that India is not only inviting reputed foreign universities but foreign students are also being encouraged to study in India. For this, 25 per cent additional seats are being created in educational institutions for foreign students. Further, keeping in mind the interests of foreign students, higher education institutions will have to set up an ‘office of international.

They individually and through their company, RRPR Holding Private Ltd, continue to hold 61.45 per cent of the total paid-up share capital of NDTV.”

Oracle hit by lawsuit in US for violating privacy of ‘5 billion people’

San Francisco, Aug 22 (IANS):

Cloud major Oracle has been hit by a privacy class-action lawsuit in the US, claiming that the company’s “worldwide surveillance machine” has amassed detailed dossiers on nearly 5 billion people, the Irish Council for Civil Liberties (ICCL) claimed on Monday. The lawsuit, filed in the Northern District of California, accused the company and its adtech and advertising subsidiaries of “violating the privacy of the majority of the people on Earth”. Oracle is an “important part of the tracking and data industry” and generates $42.4 billion in annual revenue. Dr Johnny Ryan, Senior Fellow of the ICCL, is one of three class representatives in a new lawsuit filled against Oracle. “Oracle has violated the privacy of billions of people across the globe. This is a Fortune 500 company on a dangerous mission to track where every person in the world goes, and what they do. We are taking this action to stop Oracle’s surveillance machine,” Dr Ryan said in a statement. Oracle’s dossiers about people include names, home addresses, emails, purchases online and in the real world, physical movements in the real world, income, interests and political views, and a detailed account of online activity. “For example, one Oracle database included a record of a German man who used a prepaid debit card to place a 10 euro bet on an esports betting site,” said the ICCL. Oracle also coordinates a global trade in dossiers about people through the Oracle Data Marketplace, it alleged. Ryan filed the lawsuit along with Michael Katz-Lacabe, director of research at The Center for Human Rights and Privacy; and Dr Jennifer Golbeck, a professor of computer science at the University of Maryland. The complaint against Oracle alleges violations of the Federal Electronic Communications Privacy Act, the Constitution of the State of California, the California Invasion of Privacy Act, competition law, and the common law. Oracle was yet to comment on the lawsuit. Chennai, Aug 23 (IANS): With the steep hike in yarn prices continuing the garment industries in Tiruppur are in crisis. Several units are not functioning for the past several months with most of them getting outsourced orders from major garment exporters. Exporters of Tiruppur, which is considered the knitwear hub of India, are in a tough situation as they are unable to execute international orders that they have taken. This, according to exporters, would lead to the market going elsewhere. It may be noted that Bangladesh and Vietnam are two major contenders for European and United States markets along with India and Sri Lanka. While the economic crisis in Sri Lanka has already taken its toll on that country, with the industry slumping, the spiraling yarn prices have led to a grinding halt for several units in Tiruppur. It may be noted that the prices of all varieties of Yarn were moving around Rs 220-290 per kg during 2021 but after the yarn mill owners increased prices, the commodity touched more than Rs 400 per kilogram. The exporters are not able to negotiate prices with the buyers and hence there is a decline in the orders as high yarn prices take the industry to losses. An exporter who does not want to be named, while speaking to IANS said: “High yarn prices are making it difficult for us to negotiate orders. In August 2021, the prices of one kilogram of yarn were 220, but now the prices in April -May have touched around Rs 440 per kg.” He said that the industry cannot survive at the price of yarn as there would be huge losses to the exporters and hence most of the companies are either shut or operating with a minuscule workforce. The exporter said that as they could not employ, a large number of workers from North Indian states and from North Eastern states have left Tiruppur for good. Several local workers from the districts of Pudukottai, Dindigul, Madurai, and Tiruvannamalai have also left for their home districts as there are no jobs in Tiruppur. Ravisekhar. K, a worker from Pudukottai in Tamil Nadu while speaking to IANS said: “I was living at Tiruppur with my friends and now almost all of us are leaving the garment city. There is no work and we were earning around 23000 Rs per month. I don’t know what I am going to do in my village other than farming. However, farming will not yield much money, and my family consisting of a father, mother, wife, and two children will have to starve. It’s a very sad state of affairs.”

As fraudsters get smarter, RBI, banks get busy plugging loopholes

Steep hike in yarn prices: Tiruppur garment industry in crisis

By Animesh Singh

New Delhi, Aug 28 (IANS): Banking frauds have taken varied dimensions with the passage of time. With the advent of digital age and online transactions, however, fraudsters too have upgraded their skills and latched on to innovative methods to rob unsuspecting people of their hard-earned money. The Finance Ministry and the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) have earmarked measures to safeguard the general public from being defrauded by scamsters posing as bank employees, financial advisors and loan agents. The RBI has also issued Master Directions for classification and reporting of frauds by commercial banks and select financial institutions. Banks on their part are required to report fraud cases to the law enforcement agencies. In addition to this, the RBI issues advisories to people, alerting them against such practices. It cautions them to be aware of fraudulent messages, spurious calls, unknown links, false notifications and unauthorised QR codes. Finance Ministry sources said that fraudsters attempt to get confidential details like user ID, login details, transaction passwords, one time password (OTP), debit and credit card details, PIN, CVV and other personal information of people, to swindle money from them. Industry watchers said that banking frauds mainly occur due to various reasons like non-adherence to know your customer (KYC) norms while opening accounts and also due to non-compliance of the laid down standard operating procedures or regulatory guidelines for deposit and loan accounts. Some other reasons which lead to bank frauds are collusion between the borrowers and third-party agencies like valuers, advocates, chartered accountants etc., lack of awareness regarding the mechanism to detect early warning signals and lack of awareness among customers. Actions which banks take against fraudsters to recover the stolen amount include attachment of property of a fugitive economic offender as well as confiscation and disentitlement of the offender from defending any civil claim. In addition to this, banks also issue look-out circulars against such fraudsters and undertake recovery actions like filing suits in civil courts or even in the debt recovery tribunals. Banks also initiate action under the Securitisation and Reconstruction of Financial Assets and Enforcement of Security Interest Act, 2002 (SARFAESI) and file application under the Corporate Insolvency Resolution Process (CIRP) in the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT), among other measures. Amid rising cyber crime incidents, the RBI has issued instructions on cyber security framework in banks and has made it mandatory for all scheduled commercial banks to report all unusual cyber incidents to it within two to six hours of their occurrence. The RBI on June 2, 2016, had issued a comprehensive circular on cyber security framework in banks, under which financial institutions were advised to put in place a board-approved cyber security policy highlighting the strategy to counter cyber threats, considering the level of complexity of business and the risk involved. Interestingly, as per RBI data, cyber frauds reported by scheduled commercial banks related to ATM or debit cards as well as credit cards and internet banking have come down in terms of the amounts involved in them. From Rs 185 crore in 2019-20, the amount involved in cyber frauds came down to Rs 160 crore in 2020-21, marking a decline of 15 per cent year-on-year. This amount further fell to Rs 128 crore in 2021-22, a year-on-year decline of 17.5 per cent, the RBI data showed. Yet, despite all the preventive measures in place to curb the rise of cyber crimes like ATM card hacking and internet banking fraud, such cases occur in large volumes every year, mainly due to lack of awareness about online banking among millions of people in the country who live in rural areas and don’t have access to internet or smart phones, industry watchers said. Also, there is a sizeable population which is not computer literate and this is also a major reason behind occurrence of such frauds, they added.

Rule-based multi-asset strategy can be superior alternative to traditional fixed income: Motilal Oswal

Mumbai, Aug 23 (IANS): In the current volatile market conditions, a rule-based asset strategy which can be alternative to traditional fixed income, Motilal Oswal Private Wealth said. The advantage of having an equal-weighted portfolio is having a rule-based strategy across asset classes. According to Motilal Oswal, gold has generated 8 per cent returns (YTD) in INR terms, ASAP 1 per cent and Nifty 2 per cent. Equity is likely to catch up with gold as global central banks slow down the pace of rate hikes in the remaining part of the year. The returns provided shows the importance of asset allocation in a portfolio. “The Indian economy & markets are at an inflexion point. A confluence of factors will lead to sustainable growth this decade from Indian equities. The number of UHNW individuals is expected to grow from 6,884 in 2020 to 11,198 by 2025,” said Ashish Shanker, MD & CEO, Motilal Oswal Private Wealth. Equities are hedged against Gold Funds and Arbitrage funds that provide cushion against any major fall. While on the upside, the fund enjoys higher returns from Indian and US equities. Don’t wish to be a cyber victim? Awareness is the best defence

By Atul Krishan & Jaison Wilson

New Delhi, Aug 28 (IANS) Becoming aware of any online scam or fraud is the best defence mechanism to save your bank balance and peace of mind, as it may become next to impossible to make up for your loss once you become a victim. Cyber Law expert Anuj Aggarwal warns people not to download suspicious loan apps, a common fraud after the wide usage of Android phones, because they contain Remote Access Trojans (RAT) and Anydesk, which help hackers access the device and entire data. Since these two are hidden in the apps, users are not aware and the hackers can access the device and steal data. “RAT and Anydesk will show the entire activity of your cellphone to hackers. All your messages can be read by the hacker, and can also access entire gallery and even call recording,” Aggarwal said. He said that one should only download the most trusted and popular apps and should not click on any suspicious links, adding that Google had also recently removed thousands of suspicious apps from its Play Store. “Even Google can’t detect spam apps, and hence we have to be careful.” There are thousands of suspicious apps which are available but there is no committee to regulate them or inspect them, Aggarwal said and stressed that the Data Protection Act is the need of the hour. “Even the RBI cannot regulate them easily. We need a proper body to bring them under control. Earlier the apex court had said that a data breach is a violation of fundamental rights and we need data protection and data privacy law. The government tabled this bill but later it was withdrawn after the comment by an expert committee,” the cyber expert lawyer said. According to Delhi Police, types of cybercrimes include email frauds, social media crimes, mobile app related crimes, business email compromise, fake calls frauds, data theft, Ransomeware, net banking/ATM frauds, insurance frauds, lottery scam, Bitcoin, cheating scams and online transactions frauds. Delhi Police have warned women to never try to meet a person with whom they’ve interacted only online without taking somebody else along and that such a meeting must always be in a public place. “Remember, people, are not always who they say they are. People often feel uncomfortable because they don’t want to offend someone, but good-intentioned people will understand and encourage you to set safety requirements, and it is the crooks who want you to feel guilty about it,” said the police. Children should never share their personal details like house address, phone number, date & place of birth, on any online platform such as Facebook, Instagram, blogs, Twitter, chatrooms, it added. The police asked to not respond to indecent/offending/harassing emails/chat posts and instead keep them in records in the form of screenshots and inform your parent/ guardian to report it to the police. The account should be immediately blocked, it says. Police also warned senior citizen to keep their passwords to be unique and strong. These passwords need to be made up of upper and lower case letters as well as numbers. Never reveal your password to anyone. Passwords are an excellent guarantee of safety and security online, it suggests. Post with caution on social networking sites. It is a good idea to also understand how privacy settings work on social networks, it warns further. In another major tip about online banking, police suggested that although online banking is very convenient for seniors, be sure to only enter information into security-enabled sites. “Sites for instance which begin with https:// means that the data is encrypted in transit. Look out for this and don’t enter any bank details or credit card information into websites that start only with http://.” The police also warn businessmen who are mostly on the go. Protect your data on the go. When you use public Wi-Fi, choose the most secure option, even if you have to pay for it. It could include password protection and encryption. Confirm the exact spelling of the wireless network you’re connecting to. Beware of clever (slightly misspelled) fakes. Encrypt the data on your laptop (or USB flash drive) in case you lose it or it’s stolen. Guard your laptop, smartphone and PDA as carefully as your wallet. It is also worthwhile to note to be cautious while using Bluetooth in public places as someone may access your confidential data/information for net banking safety.

New Delhi, Aug 25 (IANS):

Ethereum, the network behind the second-largest cryptocurrency by market cap (after Bitcoin), will move from a proof-of-work consensus mechanism to a proof-of-stake blockchain next month in a process called “the merge”. That will make Ethereum at least “99 per cent more energy efficient”. The Ethereum Foundation has said that the Merge Blockchain upgrade is scheduled on September 6 and the upgrade will be fully completed between September 10 and 20. “Following years of hard work, Ethereum’s proof-of-stake upgrade is finally here. The successful upgrade of all public testnets is now complete, and The Merge has been scheduled for the Ethereum mainnet,” the foundation said in a statement late on Wednesday. As a crypto user, Whether you are using Ethereum applications onchain, holding Ether on an exchange or in a self-custodied wallet, you do not have to do anything. “If an application, exchange or wallet you use offers additional instructions or recommendations, you should verify these are actually coming from them. Be on the lookout for scams,” the foundation warned. The Merge is the most complicated upgrade to Ethereum to date. According to Decrypt, Ethereum currently uses the same consensus mechanism as Bitcoin a”known as proof of work that requires huge amounts of energy. Proof of stake is different as it gets rid of miners and uses validators, people who “stake” or lock-up Ethereum to keep the network secure and running, which is less energy consuming. The Merge is a two-step process. The first step is a network upgrade, Bellatrix, on the consensus layer triggered by an epoch height. “This is followed by the execution layer’s transition from proof-ofwork to proof-of-stake, Paris, triggered by a specific Total Difficulty threshold called the Terminal Total Difficulty (TTD),” the foundation explained. According to Sathvik Vishwanath, Co-Founder & CEO, Unocoin, the merger of one of the original blockchain systems might be saddening for investors globally as Ethereum is considered a brand in itself. “However, this can also be a positive approach as it reduces the energy consumption and increases the life of Blockchain with protesting environmentalists. This is a progressive step towards making crypto and decentralisation globally acceptable, and creating and managing makes it easier for backward countries with limited power supply,” he said. Withdrawals from the Beacon Chain will likely be introduced in the first upgrade after The Merge, said the foundation.

Crypto scam revenue slips 65% amid economic downturn

Abductors take Rs 1.3 Cr ransom in bitcoins from UP bizman

Lucknow, Aug 17 (IANS): In a firstof-its-kind crime reported in the state capital, three persons, who had held a real-estate businessman captive, used cryptocurrency to take a ransom of Rs 1.3 crore in bitcoins before releasing him. The matter came to light a week after the police arrested the three persons -- Sandeep Pratap Singh, Vijay Pratap Singh and Rajveer Singh. Police said that the arrested accused were aware that the victim traded in cryptocurrency. Police have recovered Rs 30,000 in cash, a country-made pistol, three live cartridges, five mobile phones and a car from them. According to police, the three abducted Arjun Bhargava of Indraprasth Grand near Kalindi Park in Vrindavan Yojana, on the pretext of showing him a plot in Barabanki on August 7. They held him hostage at a house where they thrashed him, trained a pistol on him, and got Rs 1.3 crore in bitcoins transferred to their account. DCP (East Zone) Prachi Singh said the abductors, who pretended to be real estate dealers, met Bhargava and took him to Barabanki. “On the way, they tied his hands and legs and took him to a house in Barabanki where they tortured him for three hours,” said Singh. The officer said the victim’s wife, Nidhi Bhargava, said in the FIR that abductors held him at gun point and forced him to disclose the password and then got all the bitcoins transferred to their account. “They also forced my husband to transfer the money into their bank account and opened fire when he resisted it. Luckily, he was not hurt. They then brought him back to Lucknow and dumped him on the roadside,” she said. DCP Singh said that police were tipped off by an informer about the miscreants who had abducted the businessman a week ago in a car bearing the plate of high court. “We laid a trap and, on Tuesday, when they visited the Kalindi Park locality probably to collect more money from the businessman, we arrested them,” the police official said.

New Delhi, Aug 18 (IANS): As the global downturn continues, the crypto scam revenue for 2022 also dropped 65 per cent at $1.6 billion this year, lower than where it was through the end of July in 2021. Since January 2022, scam revenue has fallen more or less in line with Bitcoin pricing, reports Blockchain analysis firm Chainalysis. “It is not just scam revenue falling -- the cumulative number of individual transfers to scams so far in 2022 is the lowest it has been in the past four years,” the report mentioned. Those numbers suggest that fewer people than ever are falling for cryptocurrency scams. One reason for this could be that with asset prices falling, cryptocurrency scams are less enticing to potential victims. “New, inexperienced users who are more likely to fall for scams are less prevalent in the market now that prices are declining, as opposed to when prices are rising and they’re drawn in by hype and the promise of quick returns,” the findings showed. The year has been tumultuous for cryptocurrency markets, with significant price declines across all currencies in May and June.

Bitcoin is currently hovering between $20,000 and $24,000 per digital coin. “Overall, criminal activity appears to be more resilient in the face of price declines: Illicit volumes are down just 15 per cent year over year, compared to 36 per cent for legitimate volumes,” said the report. The scam revenue is often driven by large outliers, such as PlusToken, which netted over $2 billion from victims in 2019, or Finiko, which netted over $1.5 billion in 2021. So far in 2022, no scams identified thus far are approaching the level of either. The biggest scam of 2022 so far has netted $273 million worth of cryptocurrency, just 24 per cent of Finiko’s revenue through the end of July in 2021. However, it’s possible “an outlier could emerge or be identified before the end of the year and reverse the trend of declining scam revenue that we currently see”. Darknet market revenue is also down significantly in 2022, and is currently 43 per cent lower than where it was through July in 2021. Hacking and stolen funds activities are still going north in 2022. Through July 2022, $1.9 billion worth of cryptocurrency has been stolen in hacks of services, compared to just under $1.2 billion at the same point in 2021. This trend doesn’t appear set to reverse any time soon, with a $190 million hack of cross-chain bridge Nomad and $5 million hack of several Solana wallets already occurring in the first week of August.

Bitcoin plunges below $20K, may reach $10K level this year

New Delhi, Aug 28 (IANS): After showing some stabilisation in the last few weeks, world’s largest cryptocurrency Bitcoin has plunged once again below $20,000 after Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell’s keynote address. Bitcoin initially showed little reaction to Powell’s remarks, but then nosedived sharply and on Sunday, it was hovering around $19,975 per digital coin which is more that 60 per cent drop in its value since last year when it reached a record-high of $68,000 in November. Bitcoin prices had stabilised around the $23,000 to $24,000 level after plunging below $20,000 in June. The prices of ethereum and other leading digital currencies have also rallied in the past two months, leading to hopes that this nascent market may have reached its bottom. But the optimism could be premature, and fleeting. Companies with direct ties to the crypto landscape continue to struggle, according to media reports. Bitcoin, despite the hype about it being digital gold, has turned out not to be an asset that performs well when inflation pressures are mounting and interest rates are spiking. Reports last month suggested that Bitcoin may tumble to $10,000 this year. A latest Bloomberg ‘MLIV Pulse survey’ revealed that the Bitcoin price is heading back to $10,000. Shark Tank’s Kevin O’Leary has also stated that Bitcoin price has not hit bottom yet. According to experts, the Bitcoin price will hit $10,000 before recovering to the $30,000 level. Bitcoin has seen its worst-ever days in recent months amid the economic meltdown, leaving several crypto exchanges and trading platforms winding up operations, laying off people, and freezing fresh hirings. The global cryptocurrency market lost at least $670 million in the April-June quarter (Q2), and 97 per cent of the losses were due to hacks and scams.

Ashok Gehlot is Sonia’s choice to ‘lead’ Congress, say sources

New Delhi, Aug 24 (IANS):

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has emerged as the top choice for the Congress president’s post. Sources have indicated that Sonia Gandhi has requested him to take over before she heads abroad for medical checkup and treatment. Sources said that Sonia Gandhi had said this to Ashok Gehlot in a meeting. The Gehlot camp has not confirmed the development, but sources have confirmed that the Congress is looking beyond the Gandhis for the top post. The Central Election Authority of the Congress is awaiting a nod from the party’s working committee to announce the schedule for electing the next Congress President as the grand old party is still in search of a consensus candidate for the top post after refusal by Rahul Gandhi. While sources said that the top choice is Ashok Gehlot, the Rajasthan Chief Minister had said on Monday that Rahul Gandhi should rethink his decision as it will demoralise the party workers. Gehlot is averse to the idea of becoming party president and has stated that Rahul Gandhi was the top and unanimous choice for party president. The sources also said that the Congress wants to complete the organisational election by September, as it does not want to be on the firing line of the G-23 grouping after the resignation of Ghulam Nabi Azad and Anand Sharma from the state committees and with Haryana strongman Bhupinder Singh Hooda batting for the cause of senior party leaders. Also, Manish Tewari had taken a contrary stand to that of the Congress on the Agnipath scheme, which made the party uncomfortable. Another idea was mooted some time ago, according to which Sonia Gandhi will continue as the party president while working presidents will be appointed for each zone. The other name doing the rounds for the top party post was Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel.

Why communal passions now keep political kettle boiling in Karnataka

Bengaluru, Aug 27 (IANS): For long known as the land of coffee, silk and sandalwood, Karnataka, in later years, became popular as the IT hub of India. In recent months, sadly, the state has been in the news for communal violence and social unrest. Hijaab, Halaal, Idgah Maidans, Tipu Sultan and Veer Savarkar have been the commonly heard flashpoints in the state in recent times. Although some quarters blame the current BJP dispensation in the state for the tensions of late, the genesis goes much deeper. Old time political observers point out that in many ways, Karnataka is the odd man out in south India when it comes to politics. This southern state is the only major state to stay relatively untouched by the pull of regional fervour espoused by regional political parties. Secondly, from time to time, it has welcomed new political ideologies. For a long period after the country became independent, the region was a bastion of the Congress. Post-Emergency, the people of the state in a way revived the political fortunes of former Prime Minister late Indira Gandhi and sent her back to the Parliament from the Chickamagaluru Lok Sabha constituency in 1978. The state was also receptive of the Janata Parivar and was an incubator of sorts of the Janata Dal with stalwarts like George Fernandes, Ramakrishna Hegde, S.R. Bommai and H.D. Devegowda hailing from here. It is perhaps in this light that the emergence of BJP as a viable and potent political force in Karnataka should be viewed. After the Congress and Janata Parivar, it was the turn of the BJP to test the waters in Karnataka. The party had to work hard and long to make inroads into the political landscape of the state. Local leaders like B.S. Yeddyurappa, supported by the likes of K.S. Eswarappa and late Anant Kumar, worked continuously for decades at the grassroots level. However, it was the Vajapayee-Advani duo that really fired the imagination of Karnataka’s electorate. It was the Ram Janmabhoomi agitatation and L.K. Advani’s Rath Yatra that got the Hindutva bandwagon traction in Karnataka. Advani would go on to touch most of Karnataka in the years ahead, courtesy the several Yatras he undertook from time to time. In 1994, five people were killed in police firing when the BJP led an agitation to hoist the national flag on Independence day at Hubli’s Idgah Maidan. Observers note that the oil boom in the Gulf region led to relative prosperity and dominance of the local Muslim communities in coastal Karnataka. It also exposed many of the youth to hardline Islamist ideologies, putting them on a collision course with the nationalist-Hindu nature of the majority community. The Indian Mujahideen, a terrorist organisation, was set up in 2005 by the Bhatkal brothers who hail from the coastal Karnataka region.\ The organisations involvement in several terror activities increased the mistrust and animosity between the communities in the region. In later years, the PFI and later the SDPI would set up roots in the young Muslims of the area. All these factors led to strong communal polarisation, resulting in strengthening the BJP. From there onwards, the BJP began making spectacular gains in Karnataka - at the Assembly as well as the Parliamentary level. However, the ascendence of the BJP has also emboldened the fringe Hindutva outfits sufficiently enough to openly go about spreading their agenda. Targeting the Muslim minority over issues like wearing hijaab to government schools, boycott of halaal meat, and economic boycott of Muslim businesses have been trending in Karnataka of late. Another major flashpoint between the two communities has been their divergent stance on Tipu Sultan, the medieval Muslim ruler who fought valiantly against the British but is accused of being a rabid Islamist who persecuted Hindus immensely. The net result has been a series of killings in which youth from both communities have lost their lives over the past few months. The communally surcharged atmosphere in Karnataka is expected to influence the outcome of the Assembly polls due in May 2023. With Assembly elections scheduled in as many as nine states in 2023, the year could well give pointers to which way the wind is likely to blow when India goes to polls in 2024. Karnataka, which sends 28 members to the Lok Sabha, is a major state that will witness a fierce battle between the ruling BJP and the opposition Congress which enjoys quite a robust presence here.

Bommai’s leadership, Yediy’s strategy, PM’s popularity: BJP’s K’taka strategy

By Santosh Kumar Pathak

New Delhi, Aug 28 (IANS): As the tenure of the ruling BJP in Karnataka is going to end next year, the saffron party has started prepping up and is leaving no stone unturned for the state Assembly polls in 2023. If we talk about BJP’s expansion in South India, Karnataka is the first state where the saffron party had registered a win. Taking lessons from the poll results in 2018, the BJP is putting its best foot forward. Putting all speculations regarding the leadership change in Karnataka to rest, BJP national general secretary and Karnataka in-charge Arun Singh had recently said that the Assembly polls in the state next year will be fought under the leadership of Chief Minister Basavraj Bommai. Taking note of the political situation in the state, the BJP high command had in July 2021 replaced B.S. Yediyurappa with Bommai. However, seeing Yediyurappa’s organisational capability and his influence in the state, the BJP high command was aware that he cannot be ignored though. This is the reason that even after removing Yediyurappa from the chief minister’s post, the BJP gave importance to him and heard all his suggestions. By including Yediyurappa as a member in the party’s powerful and highest decision-making body, the people of Karnataka were given a message about him being important to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP national president J.P. Nadda. In the members’ list of BJP’s parliamentary board, after Nadda, the Prime Minister, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Shah, Yediyurappa’s name is on the fifth spot. Being a member of the Parliamentary board, Yediyurappa can also be made a member of the party’s Central Election Committee. The BJP is claiming to win over 150 seats in the 2023 Assembly polls in the state and that is why the party’s most popular face and star campaigner Prime Minister Modi’s activism will also increase in Karnataka. Bommai is continuously conversing with the state’s electorate. The organisation is also reaching out to people with the achievements of the Narendra Modi government at the Centre and the state government. In the coming days, Yediyurappa is expected to tour Karnataka. The Prime Minister’s events will also be scheduled in a way that he visits Karnataka at least once a month, likely from September. After becoming a member of the BJP’s Parliamentary Board, Yediyurappa on Friday came to Delhi and met Prime Minister Modi, Nadda, national general secretary (organisation) B.L. Santosh and discussed Karnataka’s political situation and poll strategy in detail. Bommai’s leadership, Yediyurappa organisational capability and strategy and cashing in on Prime Minister Modi’s popularity are part of the BJP’s strategy to win the polls.

BJP faces a new challenger from within: The Hindutva fringe

By M.k. Ashoka Bengaluru, Aug 27 (IANS):

Karnataka is witnessing a new development -- Hindutva activists and organisations posing an open challenge to the ruling BJP. The trend which has gathered steam after the murders of Bajrang Dal activist Harsha in Shivamogga and BJP Yuva Morcha member Praveen Kumar Nettare in Dakshina Kannada. The state’s ruling BJP is facing a hate campaign and social media trials after videos and screenshots surfaced of the accused in Harsha’s murder case found chatting with their family and friends from prison. The matter worsened with state Home Minister Araga Jnanendra allegedly turning a blind eye to Harsha’s sister, who had approached him with a complaint against luxury treatment being given to her brother’s alleged killers. The saffron party which rejoiced the developments following the hijab crisis and boycott calls on Muslim traders leading to the young generation being lured towards Hindutva ideology, is now on a damage control mode after the young cadres started a movement to quit across the state. Amrith Shenoy, a former AICC Member from Udupi, told IANS: “BJP leaders have politicised every murder that took place during the tenure of the Siddaramaiah government. If the accused were Hindus they did not bother and if they were Muslims they made it a big issue. The same trend has continued in the Harsha murder case as well.” “The BJP cadres and young party workers are thinking why Hindu leaders were being killed during the rule of the BJP? The violent mob had almost attacked BJP State President Nalin Kumar Kateel who had gone to Nettare’s funeral. Ministers V. Sunil Kumar and Araga Jnanendra had to take protection from people.” Gradually, BJP supporters are realising that the the party’s Hindutva is bogus, Shenoy said and claimed that the party does not even worship Lord Ram. “Karnataka, especially the coastal region, was a Congress bastion till 2000. In the beginning, Hindu leaders such as Praveen Togadia and Pramod Muthalik started organising Hindu samajotsava and invited everyone. They claimed that the programmes were apolitical,” he stated. The claims however, turned out to be fake, as they spoke against the Congress and Hindus being threatened and projected the BJP as the champion of Hindus, Shenoy says. Gradually, the young generation from oppressed classes were drawn to their fold. and were encouraged to carry out moral policing, wield swords and pelt stones, he added. Pramod Muthalik, founder of the Sri Rama Sena, explained that his organisation won’t support the BJP in next year’s Assembly elections. “We have asked the BJP to change. The dissatisfaction towards BJP is very much there. The party is corrupt and it is not sensitive towards the needs of Hindu community. It has digressed from its objectives,” he said/ Dharmendra, state General Secretary of the Akhila Bharata Hindu Mahasabha, said that his organisation is much more powerful now than earlier. He maintained that Mahasabha will change the political scenario in the state following the 2023 polls and claimed that the “BJP’s prospectus would be harmed to a great extent across Karnataka”. Dharmendra further says that the people have seen how the ruling BJP leaders have amassed wealth and also caused tremendous pain and suffering to Hindu activists. BJP insiders explain that the party leaders are hoping to recover from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the coastal town of Mangaluru in Dakshina Kannada district on September 2, where he will address a public rally.

Townsville (Queensland), Aug 31

(IANS): Australian pace spearhead Mitchell Starc grabbed three wickets as the hosts thrashed Zimbabwe by eight wickets in a low-scoring match to win the second One-day International here and take an unassailable lead in the three-match series on Wednesday. Following figures 3/24, the 32-yearold Starc is just one wicket short of becoming the sixth Australian bowler to reach 200 men’s ODI wickets even as the Kangaroos leapfrogged West Indies on the path to automatic qualification for the 2023 Cricket World Cup in India. Starc led the charge here as Australia bundled out Zimbabwe for just 96 runs in 27.5 overs with the pacer accounting for Innocent Kaia, Wesley Madhevere and Tadiwanashe Marumani in his first four overs and consigning the tourists to 14/3. Regis Chakabva’s side were unable to recover, eventually bowled out for a sub-100 total. In reply, Australia lost David Warner and Aaron Finch early before they managed to overhaul the target in just 14.4 overs. Both the Australian wickets fell to left-arm quick Richard Ngarava (2/16). Ngarava also found the outside edge of Steve Smith’s bat, only for the ball to go past a waiting fielder at backward point. Smith went on to make light work of the chase, finishing on an unbeaten 47 (41 balls), and was joined by Alex Carey (26 not out off 33 balls) as the hosts cruised to the target with ease. The win took the Aussies to 90 points on the Super League table, overtaking the West Indies (88 points) and moving to seventh place. The top eight teams at the end of the competition go straight to India for the 2023 World Cup, with the bottom five moving to the Cricket World Cup Qualifier, to be held in Zimbabwe next year, according to ICC. A win over Zimbabwe in the third ODI would likely move the Australians into sixth, while Zimbabwe will feature in the Qualifier on home soil. Brief scores: Zimbabwe 96 in 27.5 overs (Mitchell Starc 3/24, Adam Zampa 3/21, Cameron Green 2/7) lost to Australia 100/2 in 14.4 overs (Steven Smith 47 not out; Richard Ngarava 2/16) by eight wickets.

Most men’s ODI wickets for Australia

-- 2000-2012 • Shane Warne -- 291 wickets -- 1993-2003 • Mitchell Johnson -- 239 wickets -- 2005-2015 • Craig McDermott -- 203 wickets -- 1985-1995 • Mitchell Starc -- 199 wickets (till date) -- 2010-2022.

Hardik Pandya jumps to career-best 5th spot in T20I all-rounder rankings

Dubai, Aug 31 (IANS): Star India all-rounder Hardik Pandya climbed eight places in the latest ICC T20I all-rounder rankings, released on Wednesday, to attain his career best fifth position after exceptional individual performance against Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2022, here. Hardik claimed 3/25 with the ball and made 33 not out from just 17 balls, leading India to a thrilling five-wicket win over arch-rivals Pakistan in their opening game of Asia Cup on Sunday. His impactful performance also showed that the 28-year old will be vital in India’s T20 World Cup campaign later in the year in Australia. Meanwhile, Afghanistan’s blistering start to the tournament has also not gone unnoticed, with a number of players rewarded in the updated rankings. Rashid Khan’s push for the No. 1 bowler position has been helped with a two-spot jump to third (708 points), over fellow leg-spinners Adil Rashid and Adam Zampa. Left-arm wrist-spinner Tabraiz Shamsi (716) is next in Rashid’s sights, though Josh Hazlewood (792) boasts a strong margin at the top of the list. Rashid’s compatriot Mujeeb Ur Rahman has entered the top-10 with a seven-spot move up the rankings (660), currently edged out for eighth by Bhuvneshwar Kumar (661), whose 4/26 against Pakistan helped the Men in Blue to victory. There were no new entrants in the T20I batting top-10, though there was a push from Pakistan’s Mohammad Rizwan, moving up to second (796) to join Babar Azam (810) in the top two. Afghanistan’s Hazratullah Zazai’s innings of 23 (26) and 37 (28) led to a three-spot rise to 14th (611). His teammate Rahmanullah Gurbaz moved up five spots to 29th. There were several shuffles across the other two formats, with Ben Stokes’ role in England’s victory over South Africa leading to moves up in all three Test ranking lists. Making a hundred and taking 2/17 and 2/30, Stokes moved up nine spots on the batting rankings to 18th (668), five spots to 38th on the bowling rankings (540), and up to second on the all-rounder list (360). Ravindra Jadeja (384) holds on to the top spot. There were no moves of note in the top-10 of the ODI rankings, though the first match between Australia and Zimbabwe saw shuffles lower down. Wesley Madhevere’s half-century in Townsville led to a 38-position climb, with fellow Zimbabwe teammate Richard Ngarava making a move in the bowling rankings. After a strong showing in Australia’s victory, the young all-rounder moved 82 places on the bowling rankings, and 56 places in the all-rounder list.

Asia Cup 2022: Afghanistan thrash Sri Lanka by 8 wickets in opener

Dubai, Aug 27 (IANS): Afghanistan produced a clinical all-round performance to thrash Sri Lanka by eight wickets in the first match of the Asia Cup 2022 T20 Tournament at Dubai International Cricket Stadium, here on Saturday. After being invited to bat first, Sri Lanka lost wickets in clusters and their batters looked uncomfortable in the middle for most of the innings, getting bowled out for paltry 105 in 19.4 overs. Bhanuka Rajapaksa (38 off 29), Chamika Karunaratne (31 off 38) and Danushka Gunathilaka (17 off 17) were the top-scorers for Sri Lanka. Brief score: Sri Lanka 105 all out in 19.4 overs (Bhanuka Rajapaksa 38, Chamika Karunaratne 31; Fazalhaq Farooqi 3/11, Mohammad Nabi 2/14) lost to Afghanistan 106-2 in 10.1 Overs (Rahmanullah Gurbaz 40, Hazratullah Zazai 37; Wanindu Hasaranga (1/19) by 8 wickets

‘Bhai shaadi kar lo’: Rohit Sharma hilariously asks Babar Azam to get married in candid conversation

Dubai, Aug 27 (IANS): Indian skipper Rohit Sharma and Pakistan captain Babar Azam were on Saturday spotted having a candid conversation ahead of their Asia Cup 2022 mega clash here on Sunday. During the training session of both teams, the two batting legends got a chance to chit-chat. The video of the conversation between Babar and Rohit was posted by Pakistan Cricket Board’s official Twitter handle. The Indian skipper can be heard telling Babar Azam that he should get married. Rohit Sharma says, ‘Bhai, shaadi kar lo (brother, get married)’ to which Babar replies ‘nhi, abhi nhi (no, not now)’. The encounter between the two teams on Sunday will be their first meeting since the T20 World Cup last year. The Babar Azam-led team upset India by winning the game by 10 wickets on the global stage last year, at the same venue where their upcoming match is scheduled -- the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. It was a huge achievement for Pakistan as they claimed their first-ever victory over the Men in Blue in a World Cup match.

Warner’s 57, Green’s five-for guide Australia to big win over Zimbabwe in opening ODI

Townsville (Queensland), Aug 28

(IANS): A half century from opener David Warner and a patient unbeaten 48 from Steve Smith more than made up for another unimpressive performance from Australia skipper Aaron Finch as the hosts defeated Zimbabwe by five wickets with more than 16 overs to spare in the first One-day International here on Sunday. Underdogs Zimbabwe did show the courage to stand up to the Australian bowlers with top-order batter Wessly Madhevere scoring 72 and opener Tadiwanashe Marumani notching up 45 in the team’s total of 200 in 47.3 overs. It was the 21-year-old Madhevere’s highest score of his 23 ODI matches thus far and showed that Zimbabwe have a talented batter to base their top-order around in the future. However, tall Australian all-rounder Cameron Green kept tormenting the visitors, returning figures of 5/33, as Steve Smith pulled in a brilliant outfield catch to restrict Zimbabwe to a manageable score. Smith, the 33-year-old former Australia captain, showed great athleticism to run backwards from mid-off while sprinting against the flight of the ball to take a brilliant catch to help dismiss Zimbabwe batter Tony Munyonga off the bowling of Adam Zampa. It was a vital breakthrough for the Aussies, with Zimbabwe cruising at the time at 104/2 in the 25th over and seemingly well placed to post a big score. Green then completed the job for the hosts, picking up his maiden five-wicket haul in international cricket. The hosts were able to chase down the victory target within 33.3 overs, with Warner leading the way and Smith and Glenn Maxwell (32 not out) completing the job. It helped Australia pick up a valuable 10 points in the Super League standings as they improve their chances of directly qualifying for next year’s World Cup in India. Australia currently sit in eighth place on the standings with 80 points from 13 matches played, while Zimbabwe languish in 12th with just 35 points from their 19 games. The top eight teams will get a direct entry to the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, while the remaining teams have to play in a qualifier along with five Associate teams to earn their way through to the tournament. Brief scores: Zimbabwe 200 in 47.3 overs (Tadiwanashe Marumani 45, Wessly Madhevere 72; Cameron Green 5/33, Adam Zampa 3/57) lost to Australia 201/5 in 33.3 overs (David Warner 57, Steven Smith 48 not out) by five wickets.

Former boxing champion George Foreman accused of sexual assault in the 1970s

Los Angeles (USA), Aug 28 (IANS): A lawsuit filed in Los Angeles alleges that former Olympic gold medallist and two-time world heavyweight boxing champion George Foreman sexually assaulted at least two women in the 1970s, local media have reported. The two women accused Foreman of sexually abusing them when they were teenagers and below the age of consent in the 1970s, KABC-TV, the West Coast flagship station of the ABC network, reported on Friday. The lawsuit, filed on Wednesday in the Los Angeles Superior Court, does not identify Foreman by name, but identifies the alleged abuser as a former professional heavyweight boxer who defeated Joe Frazier in 1973 to become the heavyweight champion of the world, said the report, adding that Foreman became champion after defeating Frazier on January 22, 1973, reports Xinhua. Foreman, 73, has denied the allegations in a statement to ABC News, alleging people are “trying to extort millions of dollars each from me and my family.” According to the report, Foreman said in the statement that he will work with his lawyers to “fully and truthfully expose my accusers’ scheme and defend myself in court. I don’t pick fights, but I don’t run away from them either.”

To create a modish look, co-ord set is the most comfortable and chic and can be worn from parties to drive-in date. The best way to style is to keep it simple and accessories minimally. Ashutosh Sirohiya, Senior Designer, Snitch shares five different tips to style co-ords for men:

Accessorise with chains, bracelets,

and glasses: Co-ords come in various assortments such as flower print, one solid color, animal print, and so much more! It’s recommend selecting minimalistic accessories for a balanced look to best carry the co-ord sets with busy prints. When you choose to wear one solid color co-ord, it’s fun to complete the look with large and dramatic accessories. Shoes that suit the co-ord set: You can style your comfy and stylish cord with the shoes that suit to make it a chic style statement. If you want to amp up your style game, then pair a simple patterned co-ord set with sneakers, solid and dark colored co-ords with trainers, dye-printed co-ords with buckle strap open-toe flats, and funky printed co-ords with Hawaiian slippers. Go for small or handy bags: Instead of letting your pants sag with the keys, phone, charger, earbuds, and all your accessories, choose to go modish with small or handy bags. Bags like messenger, cross body, beach, and gym bags are designed to give stylish room to all your everyday essentials. Remember to choose the right bag depending upon the place you are visiting and the occasion you are wearing the co-ord for.

Oversized clothing means extra comfort and room to move around, it signifies more than that to us. It is a neutral style, it doesn’t matter what size your body is. It shatters the stigma of having a perfect physique to look good in what you wear. What awaits the youth is streetwear fashion. For a very long time, unisex clothing and Contrast Clothing: There has to be a contrast in what you wear. So if you wear a very baggy upper, your lower should be towards the fitted end and vice versa. If you wear a very vibrant upper, your lower footwear have been quite well-liked in the market. But because they were branded and expensive, they were frequently out of reach for the majority of people!” says Gagandeep Singh, founder of A Skating Monk, “Making oversized clothing also helps us be gender neutral and makes beautiful, good-looking clothing for everyone. The inception of oversized clothing and streetwear happened through skateboarding culture. As one needs apparel that is easy to maneuver in, perform tricks, and ride for longer periods of time. This further caught up and spread around the world as the streetwear we know and the streetwear culture that ASM is a part of.” Gagandeep shares the right way to style oversized clothes:

should be of a more muted color and vice versa. This will make the look more appealing and easygoing. It is perfect for an outing and gives you a sharp look. Wabi-Sabi: The Japanese aesthetic of Wabi-Sabi, should be followed while styling what you wear. This is based on the acceptance of transience and imperfect. Streetwear could never be in perfect symmetry, which we should embrace. This is a comparatively very new trend in India but a highly popular one among the youth. It is all about roughness, simplicity, modesty, and appreciating the ingenious integrity of neutrality.

Layer with an over shirt and jacket:

Layering is a four-season look and it’s always recommended to define the layering first to see how it interacts with your co-ord set. T-shirt co-ord with knee shorts or pajama can be layered with an oversized shirt or jacket. Layering with a contrasting colored cardigan or knitwear in winter will add warmth to your look and will go well with the look.

Keep it untucked or partially

tucked: Simple rule to abide by before you decide to untuck or partially tuck the co-ord shirt- maximum style or optimal comfort! Quickly scan the hem of your shirt. If the hem is even, untucked is the best way to go. If the hem is uneven, it’s meant to be tucked/partially tucked. Not every time scanning the hem helps you decide it. You can also check the fabric. Untuck the shirt if the fabric is bulky or stiff (denim, wool) and you can partially tuck the shirt if the fabric is light (linen, cotton, satin).

Overshirts: Another piece that has caught the attention of many is overshirts. These can easily be worn with vests and individually paired with shoes as a dress too. GenZ is highly catching up with this fashion trend by pairing it with shorts or even overalls. These breezy dresses

Footwear: A free hand with shoes could be taken as even if your whole outfit is muted, your shoes alone can pick it up. We at ASM currently are are easy to carry and perfect for summers as well as monsoons. Even during winters, one can pair it with sweaters and hoodies.

into chunky technical shoes. This makes it a combination of aesthetics and performance. It’s also not a bad idea to occasionally tuck your lower in your shoes to make them more prominent. The perfect pair of sneakers will lift up the mood and tone of the outfit. A monochromatic look with vibrant footwear can spice up the entire game. People often hesitate from experimenting with their footwear but now the trends have changed with oversized clothing. Celebrities are often spotted wearing funky sneakers at gala events and with their airport looks too.

The Future of Luxury Consumption in India

The Indian luxury market is expected to grow by 10 percent over the next five years

By Rohan Sharma

The luxury industry is often defined by opulent and elite consumption habits. People in emerging markets, however, are changing their buying habits, and this has implications for the luxury market. In today’s world, more people have access to information than ever before and they somewhere become non-rational consumers. This means that consumers these days have a high influence by social media, social influencers, celebrities, or some other direct or indirect promotions of the products or services making an individual a non-rational consumer. As per several pieces of research, it is visible that younger generations (i.e. Gen Z) are more exposed to such topics and they are more tend to end up buying more luxury consumables. These audiences had to be born between 1997 to 2003. A large chunk of this gen use to treat themselves with luxury goods & also often seen to gift to others. The Indian luxury market is expected to grow by 10 percent over the next five years. During the pandemic time, India was witnessing very easy, slow & sustainable growth. It is also projected that the Indian luxury sector to surpass $200 billion by 2030. As per Statista, in 2021 Indian luxury goods market amounted to $5.94 billion and expected growth of 8.03% annually. This will make it the only major 1st tier region in the country like Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore Hyderabad, etc. where luxury sales are highest & also reaching the other small regions gradually. As a result, there is great potential for luxury brands.

Several reasons can be stated behind this expansion:

• One is that India is one of the biggest developing nations in the entire world & factors include Policy reforms, economic development, Internet penetration, and India’s several growing populations majorly growth of the middle class. • Another is that wealthy Indians are becoming more brand-loyal. And lastly, more luxury companies are investing in the Indian market. • And one reason for this is that more Indians will be able to afford luxury goods. While luxury brands like Louis Vuitton and Gucci once catered to the top 1 percent of Indians, they are now increasingly aiming to attract a wider audience. Companies like LV are producing cheaper lines, like their “Tote” bag, which costs around $500. What’s more, they are partnering with local textile manufacturers to make their products even more affordable. This is because luxury brands are now aware that the future of the industry lies in expanding their customer base. Another major trend in the Indian luxury market is the rise of online platforms for selling and buying luxury goods. Consumers are also embracing online shopping in a big way—particularly urban millennials. In 2022 and beyond, we have to leave the traditional way of marketing luxury products. The luxury market is volatile and fragmented. Consumers have dynamic habits of spending. Consumers spend to buy luxury consumables for numerous reasons; majorly all of them are linked to the strong emotions derived that we used to attach to the purchase of precious material. As per the data, several brands use psychological techniques to make sure their consumers also get themselves the same amount of satisfaction & pride with the purchase of such products & services. With the growth in the income of people & the increase in the market over the following 10 years, the portion is very much ready to see positive development through the monetary turn of events, more noteworthy connectedness, and strategy changes, all of which will offer plenty of chances for extravagance organizations to serve youthful, prosperous, associated, and certain Indian purchasers.

Hair Damage during Monsoon is real

Five strategies to cure monsoon-related hair damage

After enduring the oppressive heat of summer, we are all in agreement that the monsoon season is pure delight. It is a warm experience to travel to a local hill station in the rain and chilly air. During the monsoons, we often enjoy our lazy weekends by practising self-care and simply concentrating on how to improve our bodies and skin. Not only do we neglect our haircare regimen, but it frequently falls lower on the priority list. Although we have liked getting soaked in the rain throughout the monsoon season, it will soon come to an end. This has been the most difficult time of year to take care of our hair. Our hair becomes frizzy, dry, loses its lustre, and develops dandruff and an itchy scalp as a result of rising air humidity and improper haircare practises. These symptoms are all telltale signs of hair damage. Here are five strategies to cure monsoon-related hair damage.

Apply Aloe Vera and Green teabased hair oil

Do you recall the nuska your grandmother used? “Your Hair is ready to travel; just apply oil.” Making oiling a regular part of your hair care routine will help prepare your hair. Twice a week, apply hair oil before shampooing to strengthen hair strands from the roots, lessen frizz, and avoid hair breakage. To help repair the damage and make it smooth, silky, and bouncy, it’s crucial to choose an oil with caring components like Hair & Care, which comprises plant-based extracts of Aloe Vera and Green Tea.

Regular champi once a week

The scalp can benefit greatly from a 15-minute champi, which is similar to a spa treatment and one of the greatest ways to heal damaged hair. It enhances the oil’s ability to penetrate the skin and deliver its active elements, speeding up blood circulation and hair growth.

Reduce the use of Hard Water

The quality of the water decreases during the monsoon season due to the high concentration of minerals in hard water, such as calcium and magnesium, which coats the hair and prevents moisture from penetrating, causing damage over time. Reduce the number of times you wash your hair since harsh water causes it to become dry and crinkly and cause significant hair loss. The other option is to use a filter to remove the hard water and stop the harm.

The Best way is to towel-dry your hair

Use the towel-dry method rather than blow-drying your hair as this may cause it to become more frizzy and dry. After shampooing, it is ideal to dry your hair with a microfiber towel. Instead of vigorously combing your damp hair, gently squeeze it and fold it into a turban to maintain your stylish hairstyle for 15 minutes.

Use the right comb

When you attempt to comb through tangles after washing your hair, you risk significant damage. Because of how delicate your wet hair is, brushing it vigorously might cause hair loss. It’s preferable to towel-dry your hair before using a wide-toothed comb, jade comb, or wooden comb as these will be less harsh on your strands.

Kunkumadi vs. Kumkumadi

Which Ayurvedic treatment oil is more authentic?

By N. Lothungbeni Humtsoe

For centuries, Ayurveda medical science has been a trusted weapon for maintaining our physical and internal health. People rely on ayurvedic products to protect their skin from the elements, particularly climate change, which causes the skin to lose its radiance. Kunkumadi taila (also known as Kumkumadi in the market) is a must-have face serum oil derived from ayurvedic relics that people should incorporate into their daily skincare ritual. “Ayurveda considered this facial oil to be a “miracle elixir” with luminescent properties that, when applied regularly, make skin glow like a full moon. This facial oil rejuvenates and renews skin cells, brightens the skin, and gives us a more youthful appearance. However, there is considerable confusion in the market regarding

Kunkumadi and Kumkumadi taila,” says Dr. Sanchit Sharma, Founder and MD of Ayouthveda, who compares the two to determine the authenticity of this ayurvedic beauty oil for skin health.

Kunkumadi vs. Kumkumadi- the battle of authenticity Kunkumadi (the actual name):

According to the classically mentioned ancient ayurvedic textbooks, the original name for this oil (not Kumkumadi) is Kunkumadi. Evidence for such claims can be found in ancient books such as ‘Yogaratanakar,’ ‘Ksudrarogadhikara’ (page 740), and the Ayurvedic Pharmacopoeia of India (API), an authorized book that describes manufacturing standards. These ancient texts depict the authentic kunkumadi formula. To create formulations, authentic ayurvedic companies strictly adhere to the Ayurvedic Pharmacopeia.

Kunkumadi has an original

formulation/composition: The natural Kunkumadi taila is prepared in accordance with an ancient text, using more than 20 herbs to provide a full moon glow. It contains the finest Kashmiri saffron (kumkum in Hindi) and twenty other glow-boosting herbs such as Lotus, Manjistha, Sandalwood, Lodhra, Ushir, and others. Furthermore, Kunkumadi taila is curated through a traditional manufacturing process, handcrafted in small batches, and processed in authentic ‘Murchit til tail’ to maintain its quality. For centuries, ‘Renowned Vaidyas’ have recommended this miraculous oil to enhance the beauty of queens and kings. From the name to the process, it works incredibly well on the skin when properly prepared. On the contrary, the Kumkumadi taila that has flooded the market does not contain all of the herbs mentioned in the ancient formula. It only contains or highlights herbs like saffron and is processed according to industry standards. Most brands also mislead consumers by not disclosing the entire composition of the package, making it difficult for consumers to choose the best option for them. As a result, the formulation of Kumkumadi taila differs significantly from the natural Kunkumadi taila. Using natural products is the ideal method to enhance the natural properties of skin

Internet Skincare Tricks You Should Never Attempt At Home

There are many fantastic hacks available on the internet, but before you try anything, do the research

The internet is a wealth of information, but when it comes to skincare and beauty, you shouldn’t believe everything you see on blogs and in videos. Weird beauty and skincare hacks abound online, and the majority of them do more harm than good. Shreedha Singh, Co-Founder of T.A.C - The Ayurveda Co. shares some viral skincare and beauty hacks that you should avoid at all costs

1. Melting Blackheads

A few internet tricks recommend applying petroleum jelly to your skin and covering it with a heated towel or plastic sheet to open the pores and make blackhead removal easier. Let us dissect this myth. First and foremost, squeezing blackheads at home is not advised. You must exercise extreme caution because it may cause inflammation and scarring. Furthermore, if your skin is prone to blackheads or acne, using copious amounts of petroleum jelly, which may further clog your pores, is not a good idea.

2. Applying Toothpaste on Pimples

Sure, the ingredients like baking soda and peroxide may help to dry out pimples. However, it is possible that it will leave the area sensitive, irritated, and prone to further eruptions. Toothpaste is not made in a way that is safe for use on the skin. They’re just too harsh. Toothpaste will upset the pH balance of your skin, causing further irritation and, in some cases, acne and skin peeling. Toothpaste and skin are not meant to be together.

3. Deodorant in Place of Primer

Deodorant is fantastic for your underarms but hideous for your face. Despite what some beauty bloggers claim, deodorant contains skin-irritating ingredients such as aluminium salts and perfumes. Antiperspirants should be avoided as well because they cause acne by clogging your sweat ducts with aluminium.

4. Using Petroleum Jelly To Grow Lashes

Petroleum jelly is a byproduct of oil refining, which is extremely damaging to the environment; additionally, this beauty hack can cause milia, which are tiny cysts under the eyes. Furthermore, petroleum jelly may be carcinogenic. Although the carcinogenic components of oil are removed during the refining process to create the jelly, it’s difficult to know for certain if it’s truly safe.

5. Glue Treatment for Blackheads

People have been using this unsettling hack to clean their nasal pores, which involves mixing regular school glue with activated charcoal powder. Aside from the accelerated effect when combined with charcoal, the glue contains several components that could potentially dry out and injure the skin. Get nose strips instead of this crazy hack. * Act wisely and avoid being influenced by others, as your skin is sensitive and requires extra care. * Make sure not to try any of the viral hacks listed above. There are many fantastic hacks available on the internet, but before you try anything, give it some thought and conduct proper research to avoid future risks.
