INVESTING IN THE FUTURE

“Steve and I are proud to support Indiana State University, the Insurance and Risk Management program, and the insurance industry which I have served throughout my entire career. We hope that this faculty fellow will be a catalyst for others to be established at our great university.” — Kim Smith, ’77 Indiana State University Trustee Kim Smith and her husband Steve Smith have given $200,000 to establish a named faculty fellow in the Insurance and Risk Management Department at the Scott College of Business. Jack and Joyce Rentschler are both ISU alumni (’55 and ’54). After graduating, both went on to have successful careers before purchasing Rentschler’s Standard Truck Plaza in Sioux Falls, South Dakota in 1973. Avid supporters of Sycamore Athletics, the couple donated $50,000 in the past to renovate the ISU football practice field, now known as the Rentschler Practice Field, and $300,000 on 2022’s Give to Blue Day to support Sycamore Athletics, the Alumni Association, and the Bayh College of Education. Jack and Joyce Rentschler are being honored with the 2022 March On! Award to recognize their philanthropic support of ISU. The March On! Award has been presented annually since 2015 to recognize exceptional alumni who assist in the advancement of Indiana State University. “John was also under pressure from his family to consider working instead of continuing his education. The recipients of the Bridge the Gap Scholarships have already overcome similar charges. They just need a little extra help to get over the finish line. John would be thrilled with the idea that a scholarship in his name will help these deserving students complete their dreams.” — Nancy Moore, wife of John W. Moore An anonymous donor gifted $1 million to create the President John Moore and Nancy Moore Bridge the Gap Endowed Scholarship. Moore, who served as Indiana State University’s President from 1992 to 2000, passed away in March 2022. “If I had not gained the knowledge and experience that I had at the Scott College of Business, I don’t think I could have achieved the things I did in my career and business life. I know there are still a tremendous number of young people who are just as naive as I was when I came to Indiana State in 1974 that are going to gain from these experiences and go on and do wonderful things in life. But they’ve got to have a starting point. The Scott College of Business did that for me, and I know it can do that for a lot of other people as well.”” — Mike Alley ’78 Mike and Amy Alley committed more than $150,000 in support of various programs including the Linda Eldred Student Success Center, the Alley Professional Development Fellows Endowment, the Porter Cancer Research Center, and Sycamore Athletics. Scott Watson of Chicago committed $125,000 to establish the South Vermillion High School Class of ’81 Endowed Scholarship. Watson is originally from Clinton, Indiana and currently serves on the Foundation Board of Directors. Scott Watson, ‘85 graduated from Indiana State University with a degree in English.
