India-Australia sports ties: High Commissioner meets minister Anika Wells

Indian High Commissioner Gopal Baglay met with Anika Wells, Australia’s Minister for Sports and Aged Care, to discuss expanding bilateral cooperation in the field of sports. The High Commissioner outlined India’s key priorities, including capacity building, two-way exchange of experts and athletes, advancements in sports education, science and technology, and infrastructure development. He also emphasized the importance of hosting major sporting events such as the Olympics and promoting traditional sports.

Baglay welcomed Australia’s growing engagement with Indian sports, highlighting the recent launch of the Pro-Kabaddi League in Australia and the participation of Australian teams in the Kho-Kho World Cup in India. The discussions reinforced both nations’ commitment to strengthening collaboration in sports and fostering greater cultural and athletic exchanges.
