New CAIR headquarters inaugurated in Parramatta

Foreign Minister Penny Wong and Trade Minister Don Farrell led the inauguration ceremony of the new Centre for Australia-India Relations (CAIR) headquarters in Parramatta, marking a significant milestone in bilateral ties between the two nations.

Attended by a diverse array of business and local community leaders, the launch event underscored the high anticipation surrounding CAIR's potential impact on the Australia-India relationship. The establishment of CAIR aims to foster deeper partnerships and collaboration across government, business, academia, and cultural sectors.


Supported by both the Australian and New South Wales Governments, CAIR will serve as a pivotal hub for driving partnership opportunities between the two nations, with its inception in 2023 under the leadership of Swati Dave as Chair. Key announcements during the event included the launch of the Maitri Scholars and Fellowships programs, along with Cultural Partnerships. Maitri Scholars and Fellows will embark on research projects focusing on shared geostrategic and economic futures, contributing to a deeper understanding of the bilateral relationship.
Penny Wong emphasized the importance of engaging closely with Indian-Australian communities and understanding contemporary realities in India, highlighting the significance of fostering mutual understanding and cooperation.
Tim Thomas, CEO of CAIR, expressed enthusiasm for the new headquarters in Parramatta, emphasizing its potential impact as a vibrant innovation ecosystem and a focal point for the IndianAustralian community.
Don Farrell highlighted the economic benefits of trade with India, announcing additional funding for the Australia India Business Exchange. Austrade will lead new business missions to India and pilot missions to Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, further expanding trade opportunities across South Asia.
