Brisbane City Hall became the epicenter of appreciation and gratitude on May 22 as Queensland's volunteers and organizations were honoured at the 2024 Queensland Volunteering Awards. The event, held annually, is an occasion to remember the invaluable contributions made by volunteers across the state. With awards presented across six categories, the ceremony aimed to shine a spotlight on the diverse efforts and impactful initiatives undertaken by Queensland's volunteer community. Queensland Lifetime Contribution to Volunteering Award

The prestigious award was bestowed upon Allan Quartermaine OAM in recognition of his remarkable service to community organizations, spanning over six decades. Quartermaine's unwavering commitment and leadership, particularly within Legacy, exemplify the essence of volunteerism. The other finalists in this category were Douglas Alexander, and Jennifer Hausler.

Queensland Youth Volunteer of the Year Award

Tobias Kennet emerged as a beacon of youthful dedication, receiving accolades for his exceptional service across multiple organizations, including the YMCA, Scouts QLD, and the Queensland Youth Parliament. Kennet's passion for volunteering underscores the transformative impact of youth engagement in community initiatives. The other finalists in this category were Parris Smith, and Susanna Allegra Serena Nutley.

Queensland Excellence in Volunteer Management Award

Vicki Meyer's outstanding management of volunteer services for Inclusee, a virtual social support services for older Australians, earned her welldeserved recognition. Meyer's focus on engagement and inclusion has fostered a sense of community and empowerment among volunteers, setting a high standard for volunteer management. The other finalists in this category were Maree Adams, and Nyree Johnson.

Queensland Volunteering Impact Award

Care Kits for Kids Qld Inc was celebrated for its significant contributions to supporting children in care or crisis through the provision of care kits. The organization's dedication to meeting the immediate needs of vulnerable children showcases the profound impact of grassroots initiatives in addressing community challenges. The other finalists in this category were 3rd Space, and Palliative Care Qld –Ambulance Wish.

Queensland Corporate Volunteering Award

Auto & General's commitment to embedding volunteering in its company culture was commended, reflecting the organization's dedication to employee engagement in community initiatives. The award underscores the importance of corporate social responsibility in fostering positive social change. The other finalist in this category was Preferred Care.

Queensland Volunteer of the Year Award

Ian Grace's tireless dedication to supporting young musicians through the Youth Music Venture charity and his extensive community engagement efforts earned him the title of Volunteer of the Year. Grace's unwavering passion for enriching the lives of others serves as an inspiration to all volunteers. The other finalists in this category were Brian Procopis, and Dr Sudipto Roy. While these exemplary individuals and organizations were rightfully honoured, it's essential to recognize the collective efforts of Queensland's volunteer community. From addressing homelessness to supporting youth leadership and fulfilling final wishes for patients with lifelimiting conditions, volunteers across the state play a crucial role in building stronger, more inclusive communities.
